The Uncommon was such a great place to live. Always clean and well kept. The front desk is so kind as well as the maintenance staff. The amenities were great especially compared to other apartments in the area. I loved the location and have had no complaints in the past year Ive lived here.
This is a pretty cool place. We’ve moved our daughter into three different apartment complexes around campus and this one is the cleanest and most well appointed. They really take good care of the units and common areas. Looks like the pool is now open and the gym. Nice to know she’s living in a great apartment.
While yes Uncommon looks very nice and the apartments themselves look great, there are a lot of things that management needs to work on. For one, the parking situation is horrendous. When I moved in, there were no garage parking spots available. Probably because they only built a one level garage for a 3 story apartment building. Less than half of the residents can even park there. And other than the garage parking, there’s no where else to park without getting a ticket or getting towed. Second, I’ve been paying for a pool for 4-5 months that I haven’t been able to use once. They told us that they’re working on it as fast as possible, but by the looks of it there’s no more work to be done and they can’t give us a definitive date on when it’s going to open. Most students will go back home in May, and therefore won’t be able to use the pool that we’ve been paying for for months. There are also lots of things in the apartments that were poorly built, especially in the kitchen like the wood on the island that falls off constantly. It also took maintenance a month to fix our kitchen sink and we couldn’t use it. Maybe think twice before living here.
Love my experience here so far! Staff are very friendly and helpful.
I recently took a tour with the leasing manager, Nikki Grosso, at Uncommon. She was incredibly kind & knowledgeable when showing us around the property. She answered all of my many questions, as I have worked at an apartment complex before, and gave me her contact info if I had more questions later. Outstanding customer service & clear enthusiasm about her work.
The uncommon as a whole is not a bad place to live. The front desk staff are very nice and the maintenance is well done too. After they started cleaning the halls and stairwells, it has been a lot cleaner. We were promised a breakfast bar but there has been no word on that. It would be nice to be kept up to date with why the things we were promised that are not happening. Other apartments nearby like Stanhope and the Standard always are doing fun giveaways and games for their residents. The uncommon has done a couple things like this but nothing to the extent of the other competitor apartments. The parking spaces in the parking garage are very small and not worth the price. My roommates and I were also promised a courtyard view but when we moved in it was only gravel. Our view has been a gravel pit since August of 2020.
First of all, the walls are absolutely paper thin. I can hear everything that happens in the apartment next door to me, including their TV because its on the same wall as my bed, and them talking at a normal volume. Also, there are constantly people screaming and running up and down the hallways at all hours of the night, even on weeknights. Im also on the top floor so I cant even imagine how bad it is to be on the lower levels with noise from above. I have lived in other off-campus complexes that are cheaper and they pretty much all offer free food events for residents, some of them weekly. Uncommon has never done this for us except giving us a coupon code for Good Uncle which you cant even use unless youre a new customer.UPDATE:Somehow it keeps getting worse. Theres still no free breakfast bar, even though p much all COVID restrictions have been lifted. The pool is now closed every single Monday for maintenance? So thats great that were paying for that in our rent and can only use it 6 days a week. Also they waited to charge me for all my utilities use at one time. I tried to sublease my apartment for the month of July because living at home is better than living here, and they wouldnt let me sublease even though theres still a whole month left on my lease.
So far my experience living here has been decent. Other than the limited parking, the girls in the leasing office have been super helpful with my plethora of issues and the maintenance staff is very quick to help me out when things inevitably break/etc! The amenities are always very clean and tidy and there is much to do on Hillsborough St.!
I am a current resident at Uncommon Raleigh and I would definitely recommend living here! The location is perfect - just right across the street from campus and on Hillsborough which is close to downtown and has various restaurants in walking distance. My apartment is spacious and I love the big TV, sectional couch, and glass shower. The staff is always very respectful and helpful!
Uncommon is a great place to live. The gym is nice and the pool looks really good. The rooms have so much space and it is such a great place to live. They also have great study spots and great free coffee!
Excellent experience here provided the circumstances with COVID. The kitchen area is huge, couches are comfy, and TV is provided which adds a nice touch to the living room area. Gym is easily accessible and leads to the basketball court which is nice as well. Ready to use the pool and grill this summer!
Uncommon is a super convenient apartment location for getting to and from campus and Hillsborough Street. The community is quiet, but amenities have fallen through a bit. When we all signed back in fall of 2019, we were promised a daily free breakfast bar. This has yet to be announced and started, although you can look at other nearby apartment complexes who have kept their breakfast and occasional food bars, even during covid. The gym and courtyards are nice, but they seem to close early and residents cannot get access to them. We havent had any events for residents that I am aware of, and the community could be a bit safer. The side door was left propped open for several months, which was a major concern considering Hillsborough street is not always the safest. After this, it took many more months for a key fob to be added for safe exit but also being able to enter on this side.
Emily W. at the reception desk always does an awesome job! Shes super nice and always helps any way she can!!
I love living at the Uncommon. Its always super clean and the maintenance staff does a wonderful job. The front desk workers also do a great job.
This place is a joke. Theyll make it sound great and show you the pretty rooms, but the walls are paper thin, floors covered in trash, amenities closed most of the time, and everything promised was a lie. Good luck getting an over-priced parking spot in their tiny deck, if you dont youll get a ticket every day. Wanna go to the pool? Sorry, its closed. Free breakfasts? lol. And watch out for the broken glass in the stairwells! They dont believe in cleaning things.NEARLY EVERY GOOD REVIEW WAS WRITTEN BY FRIENDS OF STAFF OR STAFF THEY ARE NOT TRUE.Everyone who works here is kind and helpful, they just work for a really horrible corporation who is taking advantage of students. Dont live here.
If you are looking to throw away 800 dollars a month, look no further. I wish I could go more in depth but it really is not worth it. Will not be living here again.
Sure Uncommon looks very nice and has great amenities, but realistically it is built poorly and if you want to even have one friend over forget about it there is not ONE single guest parking spot nevermind the fact they dont even have room for half of the whole apartment complex to park in the garage. Lots of things broken like a stairwell door you cant get in or out of definitely a safety hazard. Rethink your choice before you sign a lease with them.
Uncommon has a lot going for it - big apartments, gym, coffee bar, etc. However, unclean hallways, closure of other amenities and most recent the signing of a contract with a predatory towing company.Parking at uncommon is not cheap, $100 a month to be exact, so to be hassled by management and threatened with being towed is ridiculous.
This apartment is great! All of the amenities are awesome, like the gym, basketball court, pool and study lounges! The staff are really nice and hardworking and care about their residents. I always feel safe while in the apartment. Also, its in a great location right near NC State and specifically the business school building, Nelson Hall. Overall a great apartment!
The Uncommon is nice and walking distance from campus. I am sad that I didn’t get to use all the amenities this year due to Covid-19. The walls are also really thin, but it’s pretty clean.
Spoke to Nikki on the phone. She was super helpful. Great customer service.
The rooms are nice and big and the building is very secure but there is a lot to complain about as well. I was put on the first floor and my room looks out into the common areas outside but there is a huge light that is used to provide light during the night but this makes it impossible to sleep and I ended up having to put a blanket over the window entirely. The building overall is nice but the management is what is driving me away.
I currently live at Uncommon and have renewed for another year as well as all of my roommates. We love living at Uncommon because of the close proximity to campus and how much nicer these units feel compared to other student housing options on Hillsborough Street. The building feels super safe and the staff is always helpful to cater to everyones needs. I would highly recommend living here!
I fear they may be taking advantage of these students who have no experience with leasing and contracts. They tried adding a stipulation AFTER my daughters lease was signed and thought repeatedly saying its our policy negated the fact that it did not appear in the signed lease, they couldnt show it to me in writing and they did not make us aware of the policy before the lease was signed. I had a hard time explaining to the property manager and one of the other employees that a business cant arbitrarily add something to a signed contract after its signed. I asked why we werent informed beforehand and neither gave me an answer. I asked multiple times for them to either show me this policy in the lease or explain why it wasnt mentioned before the lease was signed--Nikki hung up on me in response and James thought condescension was the way to go. They were extremely unprofessional in their responses--rude, condescending and evasive. Neither of them would give me contact information for their respective supervisors, but Im not sure why I expected them to, considering their failure to behave professionally during any part of the process. I wouldnt be surprised if there was a pile of small claims court cases against them for attempting to add things to signed contracts and pretending its legally enforceable. Its sad to think theyre potentially preying on students. There are many other off-campus housing developments in the area to choose from. Hopefully, none of them participate in this seemingly deceptive practice. And since they proved themselves unfprofessional by adding specific details of our transaction in their respsonse below, Ill add that they were asking for June rent to be paid in full on May 12th in a sublease for which Mays rent had already been paid. They added this request verbally after the lease (which states June rent is due June 1) was signed. That seems like a detail one might mention in the legal contract or prior to it being signed. Zero stars for the team at Uncommon Raleigh.
I am a current resident here and the experience has been great. The service is always acceptable and the location is ideal for a NCSU student. The amenities is what sold me with having a basketball court and a gym. The staff is always nice and helpful definitely recommend staying here.
I like it. The apartment is fairly spacious and the appliances and rooms are good, I like having windows that open. The amenities are pretty good but kinda limited, good community and really nice staff. Not very strict about Covid measures and masks though, also the walls and floors are really thin and you can hear everything everyone is doin in your apartment and in your neighbors apartments.
I am a current resident at Uncommon Raleigh and absolutely love it! The amenities are my favorite part of this apartment complex. The common spaces are always super clean and the apartment sizes are really spacious.
I spoke to Emily on the phone she was very helpful in answering all of my questions!
Great place. Emma was super helpful!
Ive lived here since the building opened. I pay almost $900 a month. To any future residents im telling you it isnt worth paying $200 to live here. Everything we were promised and sold on when we toured was not delivered with zero compensation. The pool wasnt open at all the first semester. The 3rd floor had nobody cleaning the hallways the entire first semester. They installed the wrong size door in my room when I first moved in that I have submitted 5 maintenance requests to have fixed, and still now 10 months later it has not been fixed and has led to me having zero privacy in the room I pay so much for.The grill which also did not open until 6 months after I started paying for it has been broken since it opened with no sign of it getting it fixed. The EMERGENCY exit signs on the third floor have been broken for months. The hallways are rarely cleaned. There are holes in the walls, and the ones that have been repaired were done with minimal effort and are eye sores. The website says gym is open 24/7. This is just a complete lie. Its open 9-10The couches are made of actual cardboard. The outdoor TVs are smashed. We were told there would be breakfast provided every morning, yet we have never been given a single bite of food.Every single lock on all the doors can be opened without a key.Coffee machine breaks once a week.First semester and beginning of second semester there were homeless people sleeping in the study lounge.I understand COVID is the reason for some of this stuff, but yet Uncommon continues to charge the residents for it. With all these things that we have not been provided and amenities that were not repaired, THE ONLY thing that remains consistent is the rent price. $900.Instead of focusing on fixing all these problems, Uncommon Raleigh focuses on towing people that have pay them $100/month for parking.Dear potential future residents,I would look anywhere else
I am a current resident here and have to say this is the best student housing I have lived in. I have lived at 2 other properties near NCSU and this one has been the cleanest and the quickest at responding to maintenance needs. The units are beautiful and brand new and the aesthetic of the building is just what I want. The location is also the best compared with other properties and I think it is worth the rate! Highly highly recommend! I also want to mention that I did renew my lease for another year!
Uncommon is the nicest apartment complex on Hillsborough St!! It’s very safe and the staff are incredibly friendly.
The management system should definitely check if rooms are available or not before allowing people to submit an application and pay a nonrefundable application fee for it. I was hoping to get a room for this year, and the website clearly stated that the 5x5 private room option was available for lease at the moment. However, I was told that there werent any rooms empty when I called to ask about it. Really disappointing service.
The staff here are the best! They are always very kind and go above and beyond to help. I love living here and would highly recommend it!
Beautiful amenities, wonderful appliances, overall a great place to live.
They care more about towing the residents that pay way to much for the apartment and parking then maintaining the apartment. DONT SIGN HERE!
Had a rough start but James the manager worked hard and resolved everything.
PLEASE know that if you move into this complex during the month, they DO NOT prorate your rent. My daughter moved in on the 22nd of the month, she had no hot water until the 25th and I am being charged $699.00 for the full month. Absolutely so sad that they feel like they can do this to hard working parents right now... Locked in to a 12 month lease now, though.... BE CAUTIOUS! moving here!
Extremely happy with my experience with Uncommon. From my first phone call with Carmen, Ive experienced nothing but friendly, responsive, and extremely helpful service from the leasing staff. During a recent visit to experience the amenities in person and continue my conversation with Carmen, everything was beautiful, reasonably priced, and again she was incredibly forthcoming in answering my questions. Thank you for your assistance!
The facility is very clean and well kept. Marcus gave me the tour and was extremely helpful throughout the entirety of my visit. He was able to answer all my questions in detail and was clearly very knowledgeable about both of the properties we discussed. After touring and reviewing the numerous amenities with him, Im eager to hopefully be signing a lease with Uncommon in the near future.
Love living at uncommon!
I came to get a tour a few days ago with Carmen, she was amazing! Answered all my questions and was very personable. Absolutely loved the area and apartments! I had a wonderful experience!
I signed a lease back in October to live here for 2020-2021. This review is not about the apartment, but rather the customer service. Or should I say LACK OF customer service. When we signed our lease, we were promised a $300 gift card within a month of our lease being approved. Its now almost February. Ill let you do the math. I have reached out nicely three times to the leasing office, to no avail. Each time, they say I will be contacted by the leasing manager and given a time line. I was not contacted once. So I reached out a fourth time, and yet again not contacted by the leasing manager. Its not about the gift card at this point, its about a faulty business plan making false promises to potential leasers. They lack the basic communication skills needed by a leasing agency. I am now nervous to live here, as I am unsure they will be able to assist me if I have any issues during my lease. I also worry if I should trust this company at all. Too late now I guess.
I stopped by the office to ask some questions about info I found online. I was impressed with the customer service and knowledge of the property. Morgan talked me through all the different floor plans and everything included. Although I’m graduating this year, I’m spreading the word to others that need apartments.
They helped me so much with all my needs, I would recommend anyone to them. Carmen made my expierance very smooth.
WOW! This property exceeded my expectations. The leasing office definitely made my tour a memorable experience. The accommodations are all top notch. I highly recommend!
Awesome staff, beautiful apartments! Very helpful in finding the perfect place! Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a place to live in Raleigh!
Hannah was so helpful! The uncommon sounds like a great place to live!
I really like the Hammack Garden and outdoor workout area theyre a notch above all others
