I have lived in Statesman for over four years now, and the maintenance technician - Tommy has helped me a lot with anything went wrong in my apartment. He is fast and professional. Highly recommend the Statesman!

Ok location, but they will nickel and dime you when leaving (lots of money) and if you drive a car youll be paying about $300 a month and youll often get blocked in by the valet without warning.To the response below: your team just got back to me to inform me that they dont really care.I swept and mopped the apartment before leaving and still got charged north of $100 for cleaning.

Maintenance crew is so helpful! Needed a filter changed on the AC, Tom came and did it, no problem!! Was great working with him.

Maintenance requests are always taken care of quickly and repairs are done right the first time. Tommy and his team do a great job!

I called on earlier in the week (Tuesday I believe) and spoke to Ciera Hunter and scheduled an appointment to view an apartment. Because it is difficult for me to meet after work most days, she offered Saturday. I asked who I would be meeting and she said herself. I requested the appointment be convenient for her as I’ve read this place is disorganized and it would be less likely for her flake if it were adjacent to another obligation. She said 10am. Perfect. I arrive on Saturday and the receptionist said she’s busy today and doesn’t have my appointment recorded. This reflects other things I’ve heard about this building. Poorly managed, disrespectful of people’s time, and disorganized. Can you imagine them being able to process rent and other documents? Unlikely. I strongly recommend avoiding.

We lived at The Statesman for 4 years. It was a wonderful experience. Great location, nice units. But, the team made it feel like home. Simba, Marcia, Davowa, Andrew, Lorenzo, Tommy - all incredible. Can’t recommend this place enough!

I highly recommend this place. The team here is amazing especially Ciera. She answered everything in a timely manner, answered all my questions fully and was nothing but nice, respectful and helpful throughout the entire process. Was considering a couple different places but once meeting with Her and the team it was a such an easy decision. Apartments are very spacious and super clean as well. If you are considering moving to DC (especially from out of state) you should highly consider Statesman

I have lived in the statesman for about a year and Tommy has helped with every maintenance request. He is kind and always makes sure things are done correctly.

My roommate and I requested some touchups for our bathroom and kitchen. Tommy and his maintenance team did an excellent job addressing the touchups and resolving any issues. Ciera was also excellent in communicating with us and making sure our needs were addressed. As first time apartment owners, we really appreciate Tommys and Cieras efficient work and willingness to help!

Tommy was a sweetheart and did everything he could to fix whatever we needed.

Excellent and prompt service on two occasions from Lorenzo Smith. He fixed my dishwasher efficiently. He offered multiple solutions, and went above and beyond. Overall, the Statesman has been a great place to live. Great staff and prompt service. No bugs or rodents.

My experience with The Statesman has been great, and I owe it to Ciera Hunter. I worked with Ciera through the application and leasing process, and she was always very accommodating and quick to respond to my questions. Ive experienced the best customer service from any apartment complex thanks to her!

Had a wonderful time in Statesman apartment. Ciera was the one who helped me from the beginning, which was 2.5 years ago when I first leased the apartment, till the end. She was absolutely on top of her job and helped through every step that came up during my stay. The apartment building isn’t perfect but I’d say the staff works hard to improve all year round.

UPDATE: 10/27/20For several months the building has been doing construction on the facade exterior of the building. This has entailed endless brick cutting and drilling right outside our windows on the 6th floor. The dust and construction debris has made the air inside the apartment unbreathable and dangerously so, even with all the windows closed and taped. In fact everything in our apartment is covered in dust and construction debris. This is a serious HEALTH ISSUE. After multiple requests to management to address this issue, weeks later, there is still no resolution beyond sending someone to sweep up the literal piles of dust from all of our stuff. No treatment of the air or offer of HEPA filters. We did all the taping and sealing ourselves.Recently we noticed a gas/kerosene smell in our apartment following construction. We were worried about a possible gas leak due to the overwhelming noxious chemical odors. After contacting management and voicing our concerns and the fact that we couldnt remain in the room due to the fumes we received this response well send someone by, maybe today or tomorrow. We are now convinced that there is a systemic issue of negligence by the STATESMAN management in responding to tenant habitability issues. It is the latest in a litany of problems due to building issues that have been completely ignored or been given the run around.Original review:I just moved into this property so this review is more about the service I have received here from maintenance. I can’t recommend highly enough Lorenzo Smith who works maintenance at this property. My bathtub and sink refused to drain all of a sudden and I called maintenance thinking it was a small clog of some sort. Boy I was wrong.Lorenzo came in assessed the issue and spent multiple hours, draining, adjusting, hosing, replacing, fixing and finally cleaning the bathtub and sink. It was clear he really cared about the quality of his work and he did it all while wearing a mask. One of the best maintenance experiences I’ve had in any apartment building.Thanks Lorenzo Smith and the maintenance staff at the Statesman!

The maintenance team is responsible and quick reactive. I just post a new service request in the yesterday evening, then Mr. Lorenzo showed up and fixed my refrigerator in the morning today. The professional efficiency and positive attitude demonstrated on him is really impressive.

I highly recommend living at the Statesman. The front desk staff is always so friendly and willing to help me whenever I have issues with package discrepancies. Everyone who works at the front is eager to greet you and brighten your day. Special thanks to Simba and a new lady (with the best makeup!!, I don’t know her name unfortunately) who are always so willing to help me out.Maintenance guy, Lorenzo, has fixed multiple things in our apartment from a busted garbage disposal, to a closet door that completely came off! He is always so courteous and does a splendid job!!

The Statesman is a great place to live! The maintenance staff especially has always been a huge help. On multiple occasions Lorenzo Smith has responded the same day and was extremely positive and helpful!

I have lived here for 6 months now, and I can say the facilities including the gym, lobby area, apartments, and laundry facility are well run and clean. The staff are always friendly and take the time to get to know the residents of the buildings. Ron and the other staff are always there to help and provide security for the residents round the clock. I have only good things to say about this residence.

Great customer service! Ciera Hunter patiently and kindly walked us through what turned out to be a complicated application process. She was such a joy to work with her positive professional attitude and endless patience. When our son moves in we look forward to meeting Ciera. If the other staff at The Statesman are anything like Ciera it will be a great place to live because the people make all the difference!

Ronald at the front desk makes your day instantly brighter- whether its when leaving bright and early or arriving home after a long day. He makes the Statesman experience extraordinary!We also are a big fan of Lorenzo the maintenance man! He is always timely and clean when working in our apartment and is very accommodating of our service dog.

I moved into my new apartment on May 26. During the week I was scheduled to move, I ended up getting sick and had to spend some time in the hospital. The Statesman staff bent over backward to make sure I was taken care of and that my move was smooth. They worked directly with my friends and family to make sure everything would be moved and set by the time I was discharged from the hospital. I will never forget their kindness, professionalism, and overall superb service. The Statesman has by far the best staff of any management team I ever dealt with.

Very friendly office staff Ciera and Simba. They are very nice, and helps to resolve our inquiries quite promptly. Also, we had a few issues with our apartment, and the maintenance folk Lorenzo get things done neatly with a very great attitude!

Just moved in, process was super easy and staff were incredibly helpful. I forgot to reserve the loading dock to unload a truck but the staff worked through it with me and I was able to move in without a hassle

My girlfriend and I just moved in and have been thrilled so far. Ciera was a huge help with getting us settled and choosing an apartment. All of the employees at the front desk are very nice, especially Ronald!

I live in a nearby apartment, but I just had to leave this negative review of The Statesman. They have been doing facade renovation work for probably 4 months by now, which has caused much noise and dust. Before they started this work, they did not even leave any notices to nearby residents, which is SO INCONSIDERATE of them. Besides, I called their office to inquire about when this facade work was going to end back in June. The lady answering the phone was so entitled, and treated me like I was an annoyance to her. Maybe, she felt annoyed because I was not a prospective resident at The Statesman. She also said that she doesnt know when the facade work was going to finish, which makes absolutely no sense to me. Now, I dont know if they are ever going to finish this renovation work. To me, it doesnt look like the facade improved much over the past few months.

Great place!Community managers, community concierges and the technicians are ready to help and you accommodate.Ronald in particular, is always smiling and makes one feels at home! Had no issues with the Statesman.

As a resident for close to three years, I can say that The Statesman and Avalon management is an excellent choice. They were able to keep me very happy throughout my entire lease. From the front desk, to the leasing office, maintenance (who will resolve your issues normally within 24hrs), and house keeping, the people who work here are excellent. Ciera (leasing) helped me from day one and was always upfront, honest, and willing to help me with any questions or issues I had. She truly went above and beyond to assure my comfort.I have no hesitation in highly recommending Ciera as a leader in management, and strongly recommend living at The Statesman or at the very least consider another of the Avalon Management properties. You will not regret it!

Ive lived here for 10 years and the service from the staff is outstanding. One that stands out is Carmichael whos works at the concierge. He goes above and beyond to make you feel at home and that all concerns are dealt with in a timely manner. His service is exceptional.

Great building, really spacious and well equipped. Quiet and in a good area, nice view from our windows. The team is really nice and helpful, the guys are kind and always smile, specially Simba, and they always help us with our mail deliveries and anything we need. I have been living in the Statesman for the last six months and it has been a terrific experience. The building has a great location and a very qualified staff. In particular, if I had to highlight one of the staff members that would be Ronald. He is always very thoughtful, has the best attitude, and is helpful with anything you need.

The service was very nice and I am currently satisfied with my room. The manager and the Avalon people provided me with great tour of various rooms and options.+After more than 2 years of living here, this apartment is nice in many areas and Statesman Teams (Simba, Anthony, etc) are very nice and pleasant to talk to !

Absolutely love this apartment building. The maintenance is incredibly responsive, and the door staff, particularly Simba, Ronald, and Marcia are truly the best. They really make my day and always great you in passing with a Good Morning or Have a good night. Studio is spacious, and in the best location possible.

Ronald is a great doorman. He makes sure to greet me every morning on my way out and is always in a happy mood no matter what.

The whole team at Avalon is dedicated to make your move and stay very easy and convenient. I recommend them night and day. In particular, Ciera Hunter who is a Community consultant there worked tirelessly to make both the move-in and move-out procedure as swift and easy as possible.

In my two years residing at the complex, I have grown to know a great staff and maintenance team that genuinely care about the residents and are quite competent in their jobs. The leasing office defines efficiency and easy-going simultaneously. The maintenance team exemplifies what prompt and courteous service means. Finally, the front desk makes it its mission to be The Custodians of Community in that they are the bond that holds everything together. They ensure that guests do, in fact, sign in; they facilitate communication of events and special resident discounts; and they portray the often needed smiles residents need in their hectic lives.All in all, this has been my first apartment, and I have been blown away by the experience.

The pleasant and always helpful staff, the well-built and well-maintained building, and the central location have kept me at The Statesman for many years. As you would expect from a superior establishment, the A+ staff gets to know you and willingly accommodates you and all your needs. You may be able to find a less costly place, but will you get the same service and personal attention which really matters when youre new to the neighborhood/town/country? The building is older but the benefits are that it is more sound-proof and fire-safe than the newer gyp-board places. If your priorities are in proper order, youll like it here.

Simba is absolutely wonderful! Whenever I arrive back at the Statesman, he is always there with a smile and the most positive attitude. He truly takes the time to get to know the residents that live there. I cannot say enough how nice it is to have a friendly face to chat with when I get back. Whenever my friends come to visit, they also all know him and think very highly of him! Anthony is additionally always so cheerful and extremely helpful when it comes to helping with any and all services. Ron is such a positive person here as well, I am thankful that there are so many dedicated people who work here. Simba, Anthony and Ron make this place so great.

A most excellent staff. In all the apartments I have lived in The Statesman is the best. It is also quiet and clean and very convenient to walk to all places here is NW DC.

Hello my experience with Stephanie and the team of the statesman was great. As international student I lived there for one year and half, and they make you feel like home, and special community in which is hard to say goodbye.

Just wanted to leave a comment on Ronald. Ronald is top notch at his job. Always a great way to start the day to get a good morning from him.

I live in a nearby apartment, but I had to write this review of The Statesman. They have been doing extremely noisy facade work for over 4 months, and I have been waking up to loud drilling noises every day. I cant even open my own window due to the amount of dust that is put into the air. They have absolutely no regard for their neighbors.The worst part is that they didnt even leave any notices before they started the renovation work. Living in my apartment has been hell thanks to these ignorant people.

Lorenzo was very helpful in resolving our maintenance problems and I am very happy with the work he did!

Ive had a great time living here. Simba and Ronald are top-notch and always help make my day better. They help me get any problem I have wiht the apartment fixed and make me feel safe. Theyre great conversationalists as well and Ill miss talking to them when I move out (job relocation). The rest of the staff are also amazing. Last week when it snowed, everyone worked together to keep the back door and front driveway clear. These are some quality people who work hard and do an excellent job.

I want to give 5 stars because of the front desk team. Ronald always goes above and beyond and I think everyone knows it... but also I want to give a special s/o to Simba who doesnt get enough cred. He is always going above and beyond and enjoys thoughtful conversations. There is a terrible construction work conducted by the landlord on our bedroom facade. It has been continued for a month. Huge noise. Dust and bad chemical smells are all over our bedroom. A complete disaster!

I have had such a wonderful experience here at The Statesman overall. From the time I toured the place, during move-in, and also during my time living here. The staffs customer service is top-notch. Ciera and Davowa were very pleasant and helpful throughout my entire move-in process. The doormen, especially Simba, do a great job greeting me every day and also accommodating to any of my needs. I feel very safe in this building and the neighborhood. Would recommend to anyone looking to live in this area!

Price: Average for DC living in the area. Easily able to live in the one bed with two or three people. Just need to have a wall installed in the large living room or put up curtains. Solid place for college students or young professionals just starting out.Leasing service: Excellent. Answered every question I had in a timely manner.Front desk: The people working at the front desk are professional, extremely kind, and genuinely want to help.RCN Internet: 1GB per second speed with RCN is around $70 with taxes and fees. The installation was painless.Apartment: Definitely nearing a remodeling time, but nothing to get to crazy about. The gas stove is great. All wood floors.All in all... This is a great first apartment for GWU students or for young professionals.

Recently moved here, had good timing with the move in and got a real nice price and move in special. Little steeper depending on time of year Im assuming. Recently rennovated, things are new looking and clean, staff is awesome, online bill pay, secure. My first apartment by myself, so happy here and plan to stay a long time as long as rent doesnt go up too much when its lease renewal time.I had looked around Foggy Bottom, and this was the best deal totally!

I love living at the Statesman! I found this amazing building on a Thursday, and due to the unbelievably helpful and devoted leasing office team (Thank you Ceara) I was able to move in on Saturday. Ceara went above and beyond to meet all of my needs and ensure that I get everything I was looking for in my new place to call home. The move in process was my initial worry, but the Statesman made it incredibly easy and hassle free. Upon paying the move in fees, and deposits ahead of time (Thank you again Ceara for the heads up) I was able to schedule my move with the help of the leasing office and staff. I am so happy to have move here and I am looking forward to calling this place home for quite awhile. The team creates a very comfortable living atmosphere, and ensures that everyone feels at home. Dont miss out !

My son applied for his first apartment. I helped him from the west coast, but it was really his job to take care of this. When the Statesman had some questions about my sons application, I took over the communication. I cannot tell you how easy and wonderful they were to work with, especially Ciera Hunter. She explained what was needed, the deposit amount I needed to send and where to send it. Within two days of my putting the information in the mail, Ciera was in contact with me to let me know she had received everything and it was all correct. Her customer service was beyond what Ive seen in many places. Thank you again, Ciera!

My apartment size here is a studio and it really doesn’t feel like it because it’s so spacious and the perfect size for one person. It has been absolutely great living here and it really eases the strain of dealing with my graduate program because everything you need is in such close proximity. I’m from CA and trust me the rental price with all utilities included in the rent for a spacious studio in the best location for a GW student is worth it. Simba from the front desk has also been wonderful and always greets me and makes great conversation, which makes it feel more like home. The close proximity to my classes, grocery shopping and the fact that I handle rent and all maintenance concerns online in one place makes everything that much easier. Maintenance has also been quick to respond to all of my previous requests. The leasing office, especially Cierra, are amazing and help you through the process of getting settled in and make sure to cover all the bases up front with you. Very professional and welcoming. Overall I’m really happy I chose to live here for the duration of my graduate program and I would like to thank everyone who works for The Statesman because you guys really do make this a great place to live.

Have enjoyed living here for about a year. The doorpeople are awesome, especially Simba. Never had any problems and management is friendly, I got a birthday card from them. Be prepared, your rent will increase overtime. They increased mine $100 around a year in, but this was mentioned at contract time. Very clean. No roaches, no rats. Bike lock-up is not totally safe, clear signs of attempted entry on my bike lock.SIMBA RULEZ.

Ciera was attentive, knowledgeable and genuinely cared about making sure that your needs are always met and questions are answered on a timely basis. Davowah, Carmichael, the lovely ladies on the weekend and the rest of the team are highly competent and a pleasure to deal with. Community manager Davowa is always helpful and informative when needed, and Ciera and Enjay are also outstanding in the leasing office. Andrew and Anthony are always prompt and efficient with all matters concerning maintenance, and front desk concierge Ronald is always upbeat, positive, and well-informed as to the events of the moment in the building. The Statesman is close to Georgetown, Dupont Circle, and many attractions and restaurants in DC as well as major subway and bus lines. Highly recommended!
