I would not recommend living here. The building has become an unsafe place to live because of tenants they allow to remain living here (cops are here every day). The property management company has also reduced the concierge hours - packages delivered before 10:00 am or after 8:00 pm sit out in the lobby for anyone to grab. The units are small, the pool area is very small and frequently packed with people who let their kids roam unattended. The gym is always left a mess. I would never have lived here knowing the condition of this place. Hopefully, you heed my warning. There are several other buildings to choose from in Navy Yard, do yourself a favor and look at those.
Love the apartment and front desk staff but they lacking in many other areas. For example: the building mgmt sent a letter saying the residents are responsible for paying for our refrigerator water filters. Seriously?! And now, they cut back the hours of the concierges. They were 24/7 - now they are there from 10-6 or 8pm. Again, seriously? What’s the point of living here if we aren’t getting the service/amenities that were shown to us when the lease was signed?
Antonio, the leasing agent that helped me, is absolutely spectacular. He is personable and available and informative. I truly cannot sing his praises high enough. The location, amenities, and layouts of these apartments is gorgeous and you should not pass it up. Rent from here if you can! You wont regret it or the team (especially Antonio!!!!!!!!!!)
Everyone on staff is amazing, and the location is absolutely prime. As a recent DC transplant, it has been so nice having a sense of community in the place I live. The maintenance staff is also so prompt and efficient - we’ve never had to wait more than a day to have anything fixed in our unit. Highly recommend this building - for the price, the amazing management, location, and community.
We’ve lived here for 3 months now and are loving it! We were really impressed with how seamless the move in process was, especially with us coming from NC in the middle of the pandemic. We love our apartment and the people that work at Harlow! A special shout-out to Ashley at the front desk, she’s awesome!
Ive been a resident of the Harlow for a year and a half and Ive had nothing but great experiences. Move-in went smoothly, the apartment was spotless with everything in working order and if Ive been in need of a repair, theyve responded in a timely manner (I messed up my own wall hanging something - whoops!). The facilities are very nice and while I havent used them a lot (COVID) any time Ive had the opportunity, everything has been clean and well maintained. And most importantly, the staff is amazing. Theyve had a lot to deal with this past year and theyve handled it with nothing but grace.
Ive been a resident here at the Harlow since August 2019 and my experience here has been great. The front desk concierge (Jennifer and Ashley) are the absolute best. Theyre always so welcoming and willing to lend a extra hand. Maintenance is awesome and any work order I request has been fulfilled. The area is so convient I just love it here.
The Harlow is in a great location within walking distance of two grocery stores (Whole Foods & Harris Teeter), great restaurants (Chloe, Whaley’s, etc.), the Navy Yard Metro Station, parks (Yards & Canal), coffee shops, the ballpark, and more. Capitol Bike Share stations are also within easy walking distance. The staff are among the best assets of the building. Everyone from the concierge, maintenance, and cleaning staff are friendly and always willing to help. The Harlow is a brand-new building. The units are well designed and have great views, especially East/West. The living room/kitchen flooring is vinyl, which can be uneven. The units lack humidity control, which is a problem in the summer. Doors transmit sound, but the walls are quiet. There’s little street noise, except when construction on the District DOT building next door happens early in the morning. Kitchen appliances are all new and work great. Counter space is limited but kitchen islands supplement. In-unit washer & dryer are also great. Water pressure and temperature are great. Closet space is plentiful. The buildings recycling process requires you to carry everything to the loading dock; the recycling in the trash rooms has not been fixed. The common areas, including the rooftop pool and grilling areas are very nice. The gym is great; it has a lifting rack, bar & plates; dumbbells & benches; cable machine; rowing machine; treadmills; and a variety of accessories. Dog owners are specially catered to by the building which has a washing station and dog run. Building parking is limited, but street parking is plentiful. Mail service is great and it’s a new building so you never have to worry about getting other people’s mail.
I have lived in the Harlow Apartments for the past year and a half. My boyfriend, our dog, and I are so happy here. Staff is friendly and helpful. Great place to live!
As a Harlow resident for 1.5 years, I would recommend living here. Jennifer and Ashley and all of the concierge staff are phenomenal!
I had originally given this place 5 stars but after safety concerns in the building I can no longer do so.There are tenants in the building that have attacked the concierge and other tenants, and they have now removed the 24/7 concierge and have an offsite security guard.
This building is dangerous.
I lived here for 11 months. The one positive thing I’ll say about this building is that Jennifer and the front desk team are all absolutely lovely people, incredibly helpful, and are a bright smile in my otherwise horrible experience. They love dogs and treat them with such love and joy that it often brightened my day.The negative things about this building:1. The management does not care about its residents. I have a health issue and needed to end my lease early due to a resident smoking pot and cigarettes in their unit and the smoke was entering mine. After many, many complaints over a 2 month time period, we asked to end our lease early and they said no, 3 times. My health conditioned worsened (they knew why I needed to leave) and it took filing a complaint to the US Dept of Housing for them to let us end our lease. They cared more about their business than the health of their residents.2. We were told the building is “environmentally focused” with a trash chute that had recycling and composting in addition to regular trash. They were never turned on. Not once. Their “environmentally focused” bit is a lie. Getting to the recycling bin is a hassle and I doubt other residents are taking the energy to move their recyclables into said area (in the loading dock in the back garage).3. The elevators smelled like cigarette or pot smoke all the time.4. The garage door was kept open way more than it should without a car driving in and out so having a key protected garage seemed rather useless.5. Management let people convene and sit in the lobby during quarantine and early covid time. There were signs that were ignored by residents but not enforced by management.6. The leasing office told us that the building was valid for RPP and street parking. It’s not, don’t let them tell you it is.We picked this building for the 2 free month incentive they gave us in summer of 2019, lived here for 11 months and do not recommend it.
We lived in Harlow for 13 months, & it was a nightmare from the very beginning. There is extensive construction occurring right next to the property and we were never warned of this. Imagine our surprise when we had a construction facing apartment and woke up to extremely loud construction noises at 3 am. There were many meetings with Commissioner Daniels to fight this but of course he did nothing. After 3 months, countless emails, countless complaints, & constant 3 am construction noises we were able to move to another apartment in the building that wasnt construction facing. I wish the issues ended there but they did not. We signed our lease and requested garage parking and we were told there was ample parking. WRONG! When we arrived we were told the garage was at capacity and we would have to park 5 minutes down the street at their sister property but we would be placed on the parking wait list and a spot would open by December. After living there for 13 months we went from 14 on the waitlist and ended at 5. Even with the constant amount of residents moving out we were not given parking. I am still baffled at how they did not have any spaces open considering the garage was always empty. We parked at Bixby the entire time and found out the rats in the garage got into the engine and laid droppings & chewed wires. The additional issues we faced are: -Rent payment portal is inefficient. If you have a roommate & split your rent one of you has to pay before the 1st or you wont be able to split it. However all the charges (water, parking, pet) arent added until the 1st of the month so there isnt a feasible method of paying rent when you split. Do not pay before the 1st because youre account will show $0 balance as if you paid but on the 1st when the charges are fully reflected you will not see it. The charges will roll over for months and you will receive a letter saying youre late on rent and they will include a hefty late fee.-Odors. There are so many different odors between pets, alcohol, smoke, trash, and other scents I honestly could not (nor do I want to) identify. One of the absolute worst smells is the first floor. They leave their trash in the hallway to be picked up (even tho they can walk to the loading dock and throw it away) & the trash sits there for days at a time. This smell combined with the odor from the pet spa area is not pleasant.-Staff changes frequently. I dont know how many people came and went in the 13 months of living here but they use a lot of temps. The office staff is horrible and you would think with the constant rotation there would be one decent staff, think again.-Maintenance always on back order. Every time we would request for a replacement for something maintenance would always say its on back order and theyd put you on the list for a replacement but they actually dont. We waited 3 months for a fridge filter and only received it because I called and asked for an update and was told I called in time because there was only one more left.-We wanted to leave because there were so many issues but of course the staff did not want to work with us. They will, however, allow residents to place apartments on Air BnB.-Packages were constantly misplaced by concierge. The only person who wouldnt lose them (and would find them) is Jennifer. Honestly she is amazing and the best thing about Harlow. If anyone else accepts your package, hope they dont misplace it.- Work pods are right in the front lobby and there is so much traffic you really cant work. There arent any doors to them either its just open.-All of the gym equipment doesnt work or is damaged-If you decide to live here do not rely on office staff word email everything or get it in writing to have proof/paper trailThere is a word limit so I will be adding the rest of my review in another post.
Harlow really is an amazing property in the perfect location in Navy Yard. Directly next to Canal Park and has a direct view of Nats games. The management staff is amazing! The assistant manager seemed to genuinely care about making sure I found exactly what I wanted, and it felt like home after the first tour. Thanks Harlow!
