Their Mai Tais are also amazing. The ambiance of this place is perfect for several different occasions. They even have a karaoke area & a lounge area with 2 big TVs to watch sports or whatever. Cant forget their happy hours either. I believe it is 430p to 6p, but they have decent amount of items for nearly half off. Last time my family of 3 went & had plenty of food for just under $40!

The place had a great atmosphere. We were on the hibachi side. There was a screaming child at the table behind us. The mom did her best to calm him but, if he doesnt wanna be there!Food was good! Place is cleanIs like to have been told gratuity was included. Also, they base the amount with tax included.I would try the other side once and see how that goes

Great drinks awesome food! The sushi rolls are always prepared really well, and the drinks are strong without being overpowering. One of my favorite places to go for sushi and drinks. They also have a great selection of craft beers.

Ive been a regular customer at this establishment for years. There is something for everyone. There are three different areas you can sit in. The cafe is beautiful and they offer you hot towels before your meal. If you are entertaining guests the habachi is top notch with great food and a show. If you come regularly and let to relax I highly recommend the Izakaya 88. The dinning area of the bar is set with low lights and string lights on the ceiling. The menu is smaller but fantastic! I love the servers who always remember that I like salt and pepper with my salad ! Shogun has the best sushi in town Ive never had a bad experience with my food or service. We are always treated like family when we come in! 10/10

Ive always had a great experience. Food and service are great on the Teppan side. Izakaya side is either hit or miss depending on your server. As long as the food is delicious everything is usually good in my opinion.

It was a very new experience. I had never been to this kind of restaurant.. enjoyed experience of something new.. get rid of the mask and I am good.. very good food and a lot of it, the service was very friendly..

Went for my wifes birthday supper. The food is as amazing as it ever is! You have to try the pork belly. John and his crew are some of the best people Ive had the pleasure of meeting.

Amazing food... five stars everytime

The atmosphere was nothing short of a quiet spectacular. The open seating had my date and I stupefied, but we quickly acclimated. The service was spot on. Their Hot Saki is to die for, I dont know if its authentic, but I know what I like. Which brings me to the chicken! Can you say Melt in your mouth! I cant recommend Shoygun/ Izakaya 88 enough. We will definitely be returning.

Its the nice quiet side of shogun. Big fan of the food but didnt care about the show. Glad they have this option. Good food fair priced.

I called and made a reservation for dinner, for a big night out planned with family. Izakaya didnt have our reservation on the books when we showed up, so we had to scramble to find a place to get dinner before the show wed anticipated for months. We ended up having to have dinner at a fast food restaurant. Really wasnt pleased with Izakayas lack of organization or the unapologetic attitude of the hostess. No effort was made to fix the situation. Wont be taking a chance on this restaurant again.

Awesome food. I can always tell when I get a new chef though. The flavor is just not there but 9 times out of 10 our food and atmosphere are perfect.

I absolutely love this place!! You can order the same food as the shogun side and you dont smell like the food when u leave!! Great staff well managed!! Sushi is probably the best in town!! I suggest the Rockford roll!!

So much YUM! From the sushi to start all the way through to the Mochi to finish. Great meal. The Duran Cocktail and MaiTais are delicious libations.

Excellent food, service, and atmosphere

This used to be my favorite place to go in Rockford for sushi and good food. But today it all changed, sushi had couple of bones in it that my five almost choked on it. Waitres gave us no service at all but at the end charged us 17% tip, which she definitely did not deserve. Our cook could not even make good volcano. Ordered stake and shrimp for dinner and shrimp was awesome but they only gave me half of the stake but still charged 30$ for my meal. So as of today I have no desire to go back there so is my family. Dont know what happened to this place but its not like it used to be.

My friends and I went there recently (7/31/19) and order a bunch of shushi along with our main meal, we order the Mr. Power roll, teriyaki chicken roll, and another I cant remember. The Mr. Power roll tasted a little funny, but we thought at the time it was because of the combination of fish. Well shortly after we left the restaurant we all started feeling sick and I started getting hives on my arms. It seemed we got pretty bad food poisoning from the fish in their sushi... I will not being ordering sushi ever again from here or Shogun, I am very displeased about how they let bad fish be served to customers...

I absolutely love the atmosphere here, and the sushi is consistently delicious. Once in awhile, however, service is not that great. Still, it is one of our favorite restaurants in Rockford.

Not sure what those one star reviews are talking about, but izakaya is actually the sports bar like area, no dinner show or anything and they dont do lunch at all so yeah.What they do have is an awesome bartender and great servers. Their Japanese Korean fusion bar food is delicious, and they serve the full sushi and teppan menus. The happy hour menu is a great deal.

Horrible! Our chief was good but every single other staff member we encountered was AWFUL. It was bad enough that I gave our chief a cash tip, told him not to split it, and then left zero on the bill and talked to the manager. This was my first time here and I will NEVER be back.They brought us the wrong orders twice, ARGUING with us the second time. The other family that was sitting at our table actually piped up and took our side and pointed out that they had also screwed up their orders once. My mother had to wait 20 minutes AFTER everyone else had their drinks to get her tea. Despite our cheif acknowledging she had ordered steamed rice, she had to get up, find our water who wasnt checking on people, and ask for Rice. Then after our meals were DONE, some other lady came up with another bowl of rice for her AND our calamari appetizer.When everything was done, they mixed up our orders with the other family at our table. Like, to the extent that we couldnt just swap receipts. They had to redo the whole thing, and upon guessing again, got it wrong...again. Our waiter actually ruined my birthday dinner, NEVER apologized to or acknowledged my mother, would NOT give her the bill despite her asking for it, with credit card in hand (he would only give it to me) wouldnt even acknowledge her, never apologized to her. Told me that he was comping us the drinks, which was hillarious since the $10 lunch special we had each gotten included the drinks. When I loudly pointed this out the family next to us started laughing at him and the father there said He told us the same thing!The food was good but for god sakes. With the exception of our chief...in the words of the other family at our table, We could have gone to McDonalds and gotten better service. THe food was also nothing special.The fried rice was, quite literally, the only exceptional thing here. The sushi was absolutely dime-a-dozen, dead on average. Cooked vegetables were easily given a run for their money by the frozen foods section at Walmart, and the steak was about on par with what Id expect at golden chopsticks.In hindsight, I saw warning signs at the beginning of our meal, and thought about walking out after being there for 20 minutes when the tea issue had started. I wish we had.
