I like this local barber shop a lot. It’s certainly no “fancy”, “upscale” shop. It reminds me of the corner barbers back home when I was growing up. I always go to see “Larry” to cut my hair. Very nice gentleman. The shop is open to everyone, you’ll see all types of folks coming in and out (which is nice). Prices are a bit lower than most other shops I’ve been to in the Raleigh area and my cut looks great every time.

I went here in early May for a haircut. Asked for a part. Out of my entire experience of haircuts I had the WORST customer service I have ever experienced. The barber (2nd seat down) was completely rude, said I was the worst haircut he had ever had and charged me $10 extra on top of the price because he had such a hard time cutting my hair. His words were, please do not think those prices you see outside this window apply to you. Im having a hard time cutting your hair and Im charging $20 if not more. I have never had the hardest time in my life.NONE of this was the case. I never have an issue getting my haircut with my regular barber, and since I was downtown had decided to try something new and Nicholsons looked convenient. I am a person with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, I was completely polite to the barber who just seemed completely pissed and as if he hated his job.I wanted to walk out of the store, however the guy was in mid-cut and so I decided to let him finish while he continued insulting me and berating on. It was the most miserable and worst experience I have ever had with employee not only as a barber but from an employee period. Never had I had such an experience with anyone ever.The haircut was mediocre and not close to what I wanted. Nevertheless, I did not argue and simply tipped the guy and left.I recommend NOT going here. Theres better black barbershops Downtown with affordable prices, polite service, and good quality haircuts. Unless you are looking for a fight or an argument, and not even getting the cut you want for high expenses, dont waste your time. This guy was short tempered and was looking for a high tip out that he demanded.
