I really dig Lyle’s barbershop. I have been going here for a while now and everyone on staff is top notch. I live pretty darn close but I would actually travel further to go see Rebecca to get my haircut. Rebecca is very professional and besides being a killer hairstylist she is also a great conversationalist. The Mrs. loves my haircut and you can’t beat the price. Say what you want about it. After the cut wrapped up, Brian was nice enough to give me the option to chop it off the next day for no charge. Good vibes, great company, highly recommend.

Recently went to Lyles for the first time. It has that traditional barbershop vibe that most establishments try to create. Very authentic and great atmosphere. I decided to go to Lyles because of Rebecca Sweesy. She has been my barber for a little over 5 years and she is AMAZING! She is very professional and has great attention to detail. She takes great pride in her work and it shows in the quality of her haircuts. If youre booking an appointment online I highly recommend booking with Rebecca!

Hands down the best barbershop on the east side of town. I’ve lived in Portland for 16+ years and had been faithfully going to another independent barbershop for years that grew way too big for its britches. Enter Lyle’s Barbershop. The minute I saw this place tucked in the up and coming North Tabor neighborhood, I loved the nostalgic ol’ skool Americana vibes from the outside. But architecture is one thing, a legit barbershop is another. After getting trimmed for the past decade at my prior “barbershop”, I was always bummed to never have a solid standby barber that knew my hair and remembered my last cut. It was always somebody different. A rotating door of stylists that would try to stir up meaningless conversation while handing me another adult beverage to justify their prices. Not at Lyle’s. I’ve had my hair cut numerous times by the owner Brian and his trusty sidekick Kris, as well as another former stylist. Every time has been a rememberable experience. All the stylists are friendly and remember my cut from the last time—no questions asked! Not that you couldn’t change up your hair recipe, but I adore the no-nonsense approach. I always leave with a memorable experience and great conversation. I feel like Lyle’s Barbershop has built a 1950’s time machine with the availability to still book via your smartphone. Just remember to bring cash. No cards accepted. Yup, they’re that ol’ skool!

This is my favorite barbershop. I got an amazing cut, and they use a straight razor on the sides, which perfectly complements there vintage aesthetic. The guys who work there are great. We never run out of things to chat about. Brian, the guy who cuts my hair, gave me a Godfather Trilogy DVD set because we talk about movies a lot. 10/10 all around.

Lyles reminds me of the old barbershop I got my hair cut at as a kid. Cheerful barbers doing amazing hair with good conversation. Its never difficult to get in for a cut and the coolest thing? My barber has the same name as me! Spells his Kris but its close enough. Always makes us laugh. Cash-only but theyre chill if you forget and need to go across the street to an ATM. Convenient bike parking out front, too. As long as theyre open, Ill keep coming here. Thanks Kris and the rest of the crew!

Kris has cut my hair every time. I leave with a better cut every time. Its a relaxing place for me. They handled the hurdle of me wearing a mask while getting a haircut well. It helps to have a mask that just loops around the ears and not your whole head. I was happy I waited for Lyles to be open again before getting a haircut.

Brian does and awesome job everytime period. He is a professional barber and really knows his craft. Also he is incredibly likable, friendly, and affordable. What isnt to like?

My barber, Brian, is very professional. He made me feel comfortable, as it was my first time in a barbershop. He listened to my ideas and gave me a clean undercut. He even put in a little design, for fun. I enjoyed the visit and I would come again. Price was $30 for cut plus $5 for tip.

Hands down the best place to get a haircut. Old school atmosphere like I remember as a kid, hot shave cream and a straight razor finish, not much better than that. Brian and Chris make you feel at home so please give them a go you will not regret it.

Both Brian and Kris are kind, professional and talented barbers. I don’t trust anyone with my pomp and Kris is my go to. I would go as far to say they are the best barbershop in Portland. REAL classic shop with none of that fake vintage barbering they have elsewhere. Always giving you their undivided attention and great conversations. Can’t give enough praise!

One of the best in town. I’ve visited many of the “top” barbers in Portland, but rarely find a reason to keep going back. Lyle’s is a no BS barbershop that offers amazing service for a fair price.

Pretty much the best barber experience Ive had. Kris was super kind, personable, professional, made great conversation, and just made the whole thing really pleasant even though I was not looking forward to getting my haircut. He made sure to cut my hair EXACTLY how I wanted it, wait... better than what I wanted. He always asked me if things looked right, and if they didnt, he was more than happy to make adjustments. So seriously, just 6/5 stars.

Owner Brian is a very experienced barber in that he knows what you want with little to no detail, plus a quick cut. This barbershop is top notch and accommodating to all who come in. Great team, atmosphere and best cuts this side of Portland.

When getting a cut I look for three things in this order:1. Quality - Did I leave the shop feeling like I could go straight to a job interview or fancy dinner without having to go home, shower, and style my hair?2. Speed - Was I able to get in and out in a timely fashion or did it feel like I was sitting in that chair forever?3. Price - Did I feel like I got a deal on the cutting of the minimal hair I have left?Brian blew each of these things out of the water and was a pleasure to visit with; personable, fair, skilled. I truly look forward to my next cut.

Great spot. I went in for a shave and Brian was skilled at his craft, a pleasure to do business with, and charges a fair price. The next time I’m in the mood to treat myself to a hot shave, I’ll go back to Lyle’s.

I’d say it this way: My wife compliments the cut every time I come home. Brian is efficient but not rushed, great conversation, and really remembers you.

Brian is such an awesome person and one hell of a barber. Being a girl with a pixie cut most barbers try to avoid me but Brian rocked it and I swear it’s seriosuly one of the best cuts I have ever had. Ever since my favorite Barber moved away after his shop burned down, I have been on the hunt for someone who matches the level of quality I had grown accustomed to in a haircut. I had been to Rooks, Rudys, Bishops, and several other establishments before finding Chris at Lyles Barbershop. He exceeded my expectations and did it all with exceptional customer service. Im very picky about my cut, and he allowed me to stop several times during the cut to make sure I was getting exactly what I wanted. Youve earned a regular customer, thanks Chris!

, my husband got his haircut here recently. We were a little worrisome because we never been here before and we never heard anything about it. He was very happy with the haircut he got and it was significantly cheaper than the other place we normally go. This is probably going to be the new spot for my husband. Its also very very close to our home so it makes it super convenient to get there. They have a nice open space and three separate chairs. The hours arent too shabby either! You want to make sure to schedule your appointment online so you dont have to worry about not getting a spot.

I hesitate to leave a review because I don’t want to share my secret oasis, but Brian and the rest of the team at Lyles deserve all of the credit in the world. I can’t say enough great things about this barber shop. Brian is an incredible barber. He listens to you carefully and gives you the cut you want. His haircuts are always sharp and grow out very well. He takes care of the little details that most miss. The service is always above and beyond and includes a straight razor clean up. There really isn’t a thing if change. You always feel welcome and cared for from the second you enter the shop to the second you leave.

I dont normally review places, but I felt the need to review this one. I have so far had 2 cuts by Lyle and 1 by Kevin and they have been exactly what I wanted. In my experience, I go to a barber shop and they have that one cut that they give everyone. The pdx slick style. Lyles actually listened. They are also very upstanding people, never putting down competition when even when given the chance. They use the community craftsmen to renovate their shop which I find to be refreshing. They are investing in the community and if you have the choice, I would whole heartedly recommend you invest in them. I would give it 6 stars if they ever offered me some of that whiskey I stare longingly at. Lyle, if youre reading this, how does one become a member of the whiskey club?
