Had such a great experience at my color correction with Angela. I was not very hopeful that my color could get to where I wanted it to be in one session but she made it happen! Everyone at the salon is also super friendly and I love how it’s decorated. Will definitely be coming back in the future!Also would like to add that I appreciate their COVID policies and that they are always very respectful when explaining them, even when getting rude customers that like to complain.

I am highly allergic to hair dye but continue to do it with a dermatologists permission. Noel and Geoff have tirelessly worked with me to figure out how to manage and control my allergy. The last two times I have been, I have hardly had any issue at all. They both have come up with creative solutions to give me beautiful color without triggering the misery that comes with hair dye allergies. They are the BEST!

My first balayage experience was exceptional! This is also my first time trying Lava Salon. Angela was super knowledgeable and took care of me and my hair really well. Considering I was totally clueless with all the hair/highlight jargons and techniques, Angela took the time to help me understand the entire balayage journey! I had no idea where to go because i just moved to Charleston 8months ago and reviews literally made me to come here Lava Salon. And i am so happy about my decision!I got layered haircut, and it came out exactly what i wanted. The hairstylist ‘Micaela’, she did amazing job even i showed her just one picture of this hairstyle. Also not only the hairstylist also front desk staff was very nice and friendly from reservation process to checkout!The location is surprisingly approachable to all the restaurants, bars and coffee shops.Inside/outside both interior design is catching my eyes too. No wonder why they are so professional and stylish!

They asked me for my vaccination card, which is illegal under the Governor’s orders. I will not be doing business here and will not be recommending this place to others.

Somehow I haven’t reviewed this awesome salon yet! I’ve been going to Jackie at Lava for 5 years and have been receiving compliments on my hair ever since! I have since moved from West Ashley to Summerville and make the travel because it is well worth it! Jackie is absolutely amazing and so is the rest of the staff here. I am one to change my hair up a lot and Jackie has always exceeded my expectations! She is truly a master at her craft and I can’t recommend her enough. When I first moved here I had been previously going to the same stylist for 10 years and was nervous to start over with someone new. I’m so happy I found Lava and Jackie. I initially went to this salon because of it’s excellent reputation, but also loved its unique and creative vibe. I’ve been in a lot of salons and can say I have never seen a salon like Lava. It’s an experience in itself. I highly recommend this place and of course my girl Jackie!

I went to Amie O. and she was fantastic. Im historically not great in being able to describe what I want with a stylist. She was amazing - flexible and patient - working with me for a cut I loved.

This was actually at Avondale on Saturday. Lava salon!! My goodness. I cant say thank you enough. I will be referring everyone to this place. Every single person was as real, honest, friendly and knowledgeable through out my entire process. Most importantly, the support that emminates from this place is like no other. I mean support for the clients and for the other people that worked there. Ive never had an experience as pleasant as this one. Mallorys questions were spot on. Shes on top of it, then you mix it with Caseys legacy knowledge. You get perfection. I never once doubted that I was not in great hands. My hair was long, drab and heavy. Now I just feel like I whole new woman. The best part is, they made me feel beautiful from the start. So many motivations and positivity from the moment I walked in. Thanks ladies!!! I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed until just now! I’ve been working with Alex for well over a year, and I’ve never been more satisfied and committed to a hair stylist. She’s great at her job, friendly and fun to talk to, and all around I just look forward to my hair appointments now. That hasn’t been something I could say before working with Lava Salon. First impressions are everything! The vibe here is awesome. This was my first experience with Lava after my stylist relocated out of state. I was super nervous - Kelly did an amazing job consulting and coloring my hair, super talented with blonde! The tone is a little warmer than what I usually go for, but I think that can be altered at my next appointment! Will definitely be back.

Amie did such a great job! I have curly hair with a mind of its own and I have loved the cut and color I received from her! She heard exactly what I was asking for and gave me just what I wanted! She used a really cool technique of cutting layers under my curls to give my hair more volume which I thought was genius, and it really worked! I definitely recommend Amie!! And Lava Salon is awesome :)

Kelly (@kellyoliviahair on ig!) is the best! We took my hair through the entire rainbow over 8 months, including bleaching, and my hair was still as thick, shiny, and healthy as the day I first walked in. 10/10 would recommend this babe to a friend :)

I scheduled an appointment five days in advance and was told by a few desk associates via phone that if I cancelled before the 24 hr period I would receive a full refund. My husband was there when I called and I specifically asked if I would receive a refund if the deposit was taken to book the appointment or else I would not have put money down.However when I cancelled 72 hrs before the appointment I was then told my deposit was non refundable.A front desk person did say I could get a credit in-store which is on my voicemail but from the get go that wasnt what I was told.Very unprofessional and probably illegal to do!!!!I called my bank and the bank refunded my deposit immediately.

Was a bit pricey but I got a great mens haircut especially for it being my first time here. Allison was very conscious of my needs and was extremely friendly. Definitely recommend giving them a try.

The staff was very friendly and the products they use are great. My hair on the other hand is not what I was expecting. I wanted my hair evened out, and cut blunt on the bottom since the back of my hair grows faster than the sides and front. That was done amazingly. I asked for layers and I thought that they would be the same on both the left and right side. My hair was straightened so I couldn’t really tell anything was wonky, except the front of my hair was missing chunks of hair that used to frame my face. When I got home and played with my hair, the left side of my hair was hacked off on the top layer and the top layer on the right side was great. I am now stuck with layers that are very very short on the left side of my head and layers that are longer on the right side. I am very upset by this and probably should have never asked for layers at all. I can’t even straighten or curl my hair without there being noticeable chunks of hair missing on the front left side of my head. My hair does not frame my face right due to layers being cut way too short. Right side looks great but now my hair is definitely uneven and it is very noticeable. The cut just was not worth 65 dollars. I’m very self conscious about it, but at least the staff was friendly. 😞

I used the website to see about getting an appointment for cut and color. I received a call back shortly after and was lucky enough to get an appointment the next day for a cut and color consult with Katie. I read reviews before deciding to try lava and everything I read about Katie was true. She was fabulous. I think that was probably the best hair experience I’ve ever had. I look forward to getting my color done. I think I’ve found my new salon.

These owners, their skills and the front desk team is beyond! I had an undesirable cut and both the owners reached out to me and called me personally within minutes. They were beyond kind and helpful and got me in the same day with Noel (one of the owners). They turned a haircut I hated into one I loved like magic. I had the pleasure of getting my hair done by Grace! Weve done a cut and color twice now and Ive loved it both times! If youre looking for fashion colors (I did pink and then purple) Grace will do a wonderful job. She makes sure you like the end result. Lava Salon is easily the best place in Charleston to get a mens haircut. I went in with a mop of hair, no clue how I wanted my hair to be styled, and an irregularly shaped head that would make almost any stylist refuse to even attempt to figure it out. Despite this, Grace welcomed me into the salon, offered me a drink, and then really took the time to figure out what to do with the hair on the aforementioned irregularly shaped head. She did an incredible job, and I would highly recommend her to anybody. I will definitely return for my next haircut. Thanks again!!!

Not only is the atmosphere fun, quirky, and interesting, the stylists clearly know their stuff. Usually when I go in for a hair cut, anywhere, the experience is nothing to write home about. But at Lava, the decor alone is something that makes the experience fun.More importantly, my stylist talked me through exactly what she was doing and the products she was using. As someone with extremely curly hair, having a stylist who knows their stuff is CRUCIAL. And I can safely say Spencer understood how to cut my curls to avoid what all curly haired girls fear: triangle syndrome.Furthermore, she did a color to offset some two-tone issues I had from some some underlying dye from a long time ago. Again, she knew how to ensure my hair would safely come out even and one color. Plus, due to her knowledge of appropriate product, my curls stayed non-frizzy and in perfect shape while still feeling soft and silky- even through a nap! No small feat.I felt safe in her hands, and enjoyed the many screens, wall art and quirky decorations at Lava. It was an all around great experience and I left with better hair.I think anyone would walk out of Lava not only satisfied with the hair styling, but glad they chose such a fun, unique salon. And for all my fellow curled haired girls especially- be sure to ask for Spencer!

Ive been going to Lava Salon off and on for over ten years and they are the absolute best. I say off and on because when theyre booked, theyre booked - so be a better person than me and get in the routine of scheduling hair appointments in advance! Seriously though, everyone on staff is phenomenal (I know this because, again, sometimes I take whoever I can get when Im looking for a last minute cut). If youre looking to style your hair for something elegant, or to be different, or just to enjoy a relaxing haircut, you will not be let down by Lava stylists. Truly, your hair is in excellent hands.

I waited weeks for my appointment only to receive a call an hour and a half before appointment time that the person im scheduled with was sick and that i can get rescheduled with someone .... in another two weeks. i requested my deposit be refunded.

Look, dont let anyone tell you that Casey Bramhall is a stylist: she is a straight up GOSH DARN HAIR WIZARD.Its been a few days since I got my hair cut, and people (even perfect strangers) are still complimenting me on the cut. I showed her a picture of what I was looking for, told her I needed a cut that would survive basically zero effort and styling, and damn if she didnt deliver.

Tried to call and get an appointment for an emergency color since I have a job interview tomorrow and was told they “don’t accept walkins and even if they did, they wouldn’t have time for me.” Kinda rude and just probably lost out on a 350$ paycheck and a new client. But that’s big headed charleston salons for ya🤷‍♀️

I love Lava! My stylist, Ashley, is the best and knows my hair better than any other person on the planet. I have thin, curly, hair and it is a fine line between frizz and volume. Lava is also really good about pushing more interesting colors, ones that I can get away with at work while still being a little out of the box.

Im a Charleston native and have been to many salons in the area over the years. I was looking for a new place to call home and I am certain Lava is my new salon!! Katie did an excellent job listening to my preferences and hair history. She had great ideas for my hair and provided a wonderfully flattering haircut. I LOVE going to Lava to get my hair services done!!! I adore the team and getting to catch up with them. Kelly always makes me hair look better and better each time I see her. I just got the Keratin Express treatment and also some Lanza shampoo and conditioner. My hair is feeling and looking fabulous thanks to Kellys work and suggestions on products to use for my hair!! I went in to get a haircut, after not getting one for close to a year. I knew that I had wanted to go shorter, but definitely needed the advice from a professional as to what exactly to do. Casey cut my hair for me, and she was amazing! She listened to what I wanted done and gave me her opinion on it, and I love the end result!Also, I came here on a rainy day and was soaking wet when I got through the door, I was given a towel to dry off and some hot coffee. Great customer service and a great place!

I just got home from the salon actually. This is my second visit, and I must say, two wonderful experiences!! I showed Ashley a picture of what I was looking for, and she preformed magic on my hair.More importantly, everyone there is so relaxed and friendly, and its a very comfortable atmosphere. You really feel like youre walking into your friends house when you go... You have the option of being chatty, or you can just sit there and read magazines. I was there long enough today where I got to do a little of both :). Ive never felt so at home in a salon before, I didnt even know you could. Decided to go to Lava salon as first moving to the Charleston area. Geoff who colored and cut my curly hair was phenomenal. He was welcoming and provided me a chance to explain what I liked about my hair and also what I wanted. It can be hard to find a hair stylist who is familiar with curly hair and I was extremely impressed. Ill be coming here again.

I went in for a balayage highlighting (no haircut, just color) and my stylist was great. She gave me the precise color I wanted and did an excellent job at making it look natural! I was surprised with how costly the total became but it was worth it, especially after recently going to another local salon and not getting the hair color I asked for. Only thing is that parking isn’t the easiest in the back if the small lot is full or blocked by loading trucks. It’s a very trendy, chic salon!

I have gone to Lava since I moved here last year. I am the type of client that can be a stylists dream or his/her nightmare because I LOVE to change my hair; And I change it often. Lava has been great, not only because their products and services (and prices!!) are AMAZING, but also because the entire team there treats clients like family. Went to see Jackie for a complete hair makeover. I asked her to pick a good shade of red for me and a cut that complemented my facial features and WOW... she did not disappoint. I am SO happy with my new look and Ive been getting non-stop compliments. Everyone says my new color looks more natural and beautiful with my skin and eyes than my natural one so I think Ill be going back to Jackie for routine maintenance on this look. Their prices are great, too. Much better than comparable salons in the Charleston area. I even stocked up on Surface products while I was there (a very highly rated product line). So happy with Lava!

Spencer is amazing!! She is the only person that has ever listened and understood exactly what I wanted for cut/color/highlights and made it happen! I am always extremely happy with the results. Also, her prices are affordable, even for a college student! I will never go anywhere else! I highly reccommend Spencer and Lava Salon!

I had gone to Lava salon a year ago for a HUGE, and MAJOR hair transformation. To say I was satisfied is to understate the feeling I had when this transformation was completed. I was ecstatic! It was the best decision ever, and not only are the stylists there some really awesome people to hang out with, they teach you and answer all questions you have about hair, makeup, etc. Every time I go there we do something new to tweak and improve my hair, and every time I love it. I literally will not trust ANYONE ELSE with my hair and when I move Ill travel back to Charleston specifically to visit Lava.

What didnt I love about Lava Salon? First, the atmosphere is amazing, the employees are welcoming and they are always on top of everything. Jackie is a hair genius (and thats an understatement!) I wouldnt and dont trust anyone else to touch my hair. If youre looking for the perfect cut and color, Jackie is your girl!

After 5 years of searching the Charleston area for a salon, Ive finally found my home! Devin was very patient with my ultra-specific hair color needs, and took my vague guidelines for a cut and turned it into something awesome. I have extremely thick hair, very difficult to manage, and Devin gave me a cut that Im actually excited about styling myself.The atmosphere in this place is also ridiculously fantastic. Everyone is happy, laughing, and goofing around. I left twice as happy as when I walked in the door just from being around the staff.

Update: Troy, Noel - you guys are the best. My hair looks PERFECTO! Thank you for going above and beyond to rectify things. I have salon hopped around Charleston for about a year now, and finally stumbled upon Lava Salon. I am so happy I found it! This is the best salon Ive ever been too. They catered to everything I needed and have a wonderful staff. They were all so kind and polite. I had my hair done by Devin and she did wonderful. She did exactly what I asked for and gave me good advice on how to keep my hair looking good everyday, not just when I walk out of the salon. She gave me styling tips and products tips. My hair is very damaged and a white platinum blonde, and she gave it a baby soft look that lasts! Theyve got a customer for life! Very happy!

First time her I went blonde at Lava Salon with Ashley and she did an amazing job. It usually takes me a couple days to tell myself I like my hair after a change in color, but the day I got my hair done I was amazed at how great and natural it looked. She knew what she was doing and took the brassy look away from my hair. I would highly recommend. They have a great atmosphere and really make you feel comfortable while youll there.

I recently moved to Charleston and have been looking for a salon. First of, the name of the salon alone is pretty cool, the pics of the inside awesome as well, then the reviews speak for themselves. I tried them out this past Wednesday and went to Spencer who was highly recommended in the reviews for curly haired ladies. She was awesome. She took her time, got to know my hair, gave me tips, was very personable, and it was just a welcoming overall experience there. Im not used to this Charleston traffic yet and so ran late and they didnt make me feel like a burden at all and even had coffee waiting for me. She blew my hair out straight and it looked great and Ive worn it curly since and Im very pleased. No more triangle syndrome as us curly haired ladies suffer from as our hair grows out. Cant wait for my next appt in 6 weeks.

I have had many difficulties finding a hairstylist that can give me the look I was going for and one who could thin my hair without butchering it, so I stopped in and met Spencer. Spencer not only gave me the exact hair style I wanted, but made sure to get all the details before just jumping in. I was so please with her amazing, almost innate talent that now my whole family gets their hair done by her!

Was excited to try out Lava via recommendation of a friend since moving to West Ashley, however after my phone call, taking down my info and picking a date and time to schedule an appointment I was told they require a $100 deposit for color appointments. I’ve been getting my hair done for a decade and never heard of such a thing. Would never give my credit card number to a place I’ve never been or for a service I have yet to experience with a stylist I’ve never met. Shame, but I took my business elsewhere.

Devin cut my hair and she was fabulous!!! She was very friendly and professional, and she gave me the best haircut Ive ever had. The whole staff wanted to make sure I was comfortable, excellent service!!!

Great salon, did a better guys cut than the barber shops Ive tried, highly recommended across the board for all styling! Pricing is very fair, well worth it.

I love Lava Salon and Spencer is the BEST! We started going there because another place botched my husbands hair so badly it took almost 1 month for it grow out enough to fix. We went to Spencer and she was awesome. I decided to go to her myself as well. I have curly hair and grew up in a family of stylists so tend to be picky but Spencer won me over with her knowledge, ability and personality. I have not went to any of the other stylists there but have interacted with a few and have seen them at work and they all seem to be great at their job. I would highly suggest Lava Salon and of course Spencer.

Spencer did my cut and color, she knew exactly what I wanted even though my description was very vague. I am extremely pleased with my stylist and my look. I will definitely return to Lava and recommend you do the same :)

Got my hair cut the other day with Noel. I can’t brag on her enough🌻easy to talk to🌻hilarious🌻very welcoming. Their new location is very chill and edgy. My hair came out amazing. Many compliments already. What can I say, I’m feelin the lava luv💋💘Favorite part: Noel says “ok here’s the part where you tell me what you think and we can (tweek) it so that you love it” I don’t think a stylist has ever said that to me?? I love my hair Noel thank you so much!

Had an awful cut here by stylist Casey. The technique used to cut my hair was terrible. Didnt get the cut finished because one side was done so poorly, I was scared to have the other side completed. Based on the reviews of this place, I thought I would come out feeling like I was walking on sunshine. Instead, Ill continue to salon hop in hopes of finding someone that dazzles. By the way, gave two stars because of the way the situation was handled by Troy.

COSMICtologist / rock Star Jackie Inman cuts my hair. Nothing but great things to say about her dedication to the craft as well as her professionalism. She loves to do clipper cuts so fellas...just book an appointment. Rest of the staff is always very friendly and accommodating. Only salon Ive ever been to that offered me a beer while I waited. I needed a salon near my new address. Everyone knows how stressful it is to go to a new hairdresser. I read the reviews and thought Id chance it since they were all so good. Wow, was I in for a surprise! Dont think Ive ever been to a salon where I felt that EVERYONE there was a true professional. You just get that vibe. My stylist is Ashley. I used to worry about the young ones, whether they had enough experience but from the first moment Ashley approached me I could tell she knew her craft. She asked me what I was after and then get this, she listened to what I said. Priceless! I asked for her professional opinion and she nailed it!! Went back for my second visit today and my hair has NEVER looked better!! Its a miracle. I dont have to look any further. Thats why this place is in the top salons in America.
