They just changed up the schedule, again, and my biggest complaint is this BJJ school doesnt offer enough classes for adults, especially if you dont have 3+ stripes on your white belt. Between the Yoga, kids, teens, muay thai, wrestling, no-gi, competition class, theres only a select few classes that a lower level belt (adult) is even allowed to attend. And because of that limitation the classes seem to have 30+ students (which is way too much given the size of the mat) and only 2 professors teaching. Which not only means you pretty much never get a professor to walk you through a drill individually, but that theres usually not enough room on the mat for everyone to drill. Often we have to be in groups of 3s meaning you get even less reps on drills and less time spent rolling. For $165/mo I feel the school should be offering a lot more classes, for all levels, and be able to provide more hands on instruction, and have enough space for students to actually practice.

There are not enough words to describe how I feel about Jiu-Jitsu. All I can say is, getting smashed, shoulder pain, back pain, bruises all over my body as been amazing. It makes me feel alive to be in pain. Master Drac, Proff Berto, Proff Lucas and Proff Andressa have been aspiring. They truly care and motivate you to push yourself. We have a legend, one of the best teachers in the history of BJJ in our backyards. You have to come join, not only him, but you have world class, top ranked fighters to learn from

I’ve been training at this gym for three years now. I started very weak and was no background in martial arts. I also had chronic headaches and other health issues to boot. They were patient with me the entire time and allowed me to work at my own pace. I’m excited to have continued for this long until excelled to as far as I have now. As a father, husband, full-time employee, this is not my main priority in life but it is a perfect fit with my schedule and life and keeps me grounded in all aspects of my life. I highly recommend taking a free class to learn from the best at your own pace, whether a first timer or a competitor.

This place is incredible.. all the professors / instructors a great.. I started at 50 years old and had multiple things to overcome... well maybe not overcome would be a correct word, to deal with in the best possible way at this point in my life would probably be more appropriate. The health and injuries that I have I didnt think it was possible... while there definitely is no illusions of being the next best Star LOL I cannot recommend this enough for health, movement and overcoming or in my case dealing with all kinds of physical issues... since I still consider myself very new in this I hope its not out of line to say the mental and spiritual benefits are incredible and in my opinion far surpass the physical you can apply this and all aspects of your life... highly recommend Gracie Barra, Webster, Texas

I highly recommend training here if youre looking for a workout, improve your striking (I only took classes in striking & Muay Thai), or looking to be part of a community. Coach Jonathan, Roberto, and Ricky are great at meeting your needs and challenging you within each class. All 3 coaches respect your reason for joining and certainly accommodate to those reasons. In addition members are invited to every tournament/match/smoker that others are participating in giving you that sense of community. The facility is cleaned every day and equipment is provided until you obtain your own. I had to leave because I accepted employment outside the state but I truly enjoyed my time here and would come back given the chance.

They are great with little kids. My 4-year-old daughter has been going there since August and still loves it. Even the instructors who are not there that often know her by name. My daughter is one of the younger kids in the group. The instructors always make sure that she has fun and does not feel like she is always last. Great place to get the kids started in martial arts!Advise to parents who take their little ones there for the first time: make sure you arrive about 15 minutes BEFORE the class starts. I have seen many kids intimidated by the environment if they arrive to class late or almost late for the first few times. Even the best efforts on part of the instructors sometimes fail when it is time to bring the new kid onto the mat when the class is in progress. After a few classes, though, when they get to know the instructors, the little ones have no problem hopping onto the mat and have fun running and rolling around.

Underwhelming.I got there early in the morning, and right away the guys on the mat werent very friendly. Got there at 9:50 for a 10am class, and the gym was empty except for 2 guys. When the class started, it was just 2 students -myself included, and the instructor. We warmed up with shadow boxing, then hit the bags.20 minutes into the lesson, the instructor decided he just didnt want to teach anymore, and ended the lesson early. Sure, it wasnt a big class, but even one student is worth your time if youre passionate about fighting.Throughout this short lesson, I didnt get any instruction. Warm up. Hit the bags.Considering the rave reviews, I was expecting more from this gym. I walked away with the impression that this gym, although it looks good, lacks a fighting spirit and dedication to the sport.I wont be returning and Ill advise anyone against training there.

My only real complaint ( and the reason for the loss of 1 stars) is their prices are a full 50% higher than most other metropolitan areas. For $149/mo you only get access to their fundamentals class which has limited offerings per week. Most jiu jitsu places are all access and around $100 /mo.

Underwhelming? That is a first time I have heard that word used to describe this WORLD CLASS FACILITY! The school, the instructors speak for themselves, they are both top notch! No fighting spirit? To make this assumption based on one Muay Thai class is baseless. Take a look at our schools competition record, the competition record of our instructors, better yet ask anyone that has competed against us and they will give you perfect insight of our fighting spirit. Its very hard to believe that the person who made these comments actually went to the right place. What people sometimes dont understand is not all schools are the same. You have to come to a new place with an open mind and get used to the new environment. You should come into a place with the attitude that this is a new place I am here to learn, not an attitude that Im great I know more than these life long martial artists. I can tell you first hand that there are no egos at this school, all the students who walk through those doors go there with the intent to LEARN. If you want to learn how to defend yourself, if you want to learn BJJ or Muay Thai, if you are tired of running on the treadmill and just want to get in shape this is the place for you! These instructors are lifelong martial artists and can help you achieve whatever goals you are wanting to achieve.

There are several classes available everyday during the week that makes it real convenient for someone like myself who works rotating shifts. The instuctors are awesome. Each of them have their our style that makes each class unique and it also breaks up the same routine you may find at other gyms. Most instructors are also available for private lessons. When I first started, I never thought that I would take advantage of private lessons. But after the advice of another student, I have been scheduling one lesson a week and it has improved my technique so much.Last thing, the gym atmosphere is family like. The senior students take the time to help and critique the junior students technique. This will definitely be my gym for many years to come.I

Truly a top-tier school. A quick search on the Internet will verify the impeccable credentials of the instructors. The head instructor, Vinicius Draculino Magalhães, is a world class competitor in his own right. However, he is also a very accomplished instructor as reflected in the multiple world champions who are his direct students. The instruction is at all times detailed, professional, fun, focused, and insightful. Although it is a martial arts school with Brazilian jui jitsu, Muay Thai, wrestling and more -- I would describe the training atmosphere as kind. The training emphasis is on learning how to be more effective, never critical. Beginners, as well as the advanced students, get hands on attention. There is an air of light-hearted humor paired with serious focus. Since beginning as a white belt, I found this to be true of all the instructors. To Prof Draculinos credit the atmosphere he cultivates is reflected in nearly all of the students as well. The training partners are nearly all kind, even while competing. This creates conditions where you can train hard and feel safe. The facility is clean and modern. The staff are friendly and helpful. The available class times are many and will fit into even a busy persons schedule. The fees are comparable to a health club or similar schools. One more observation regarding the atmosphere. Ive trained at other schools where the instructor will bring in a guest teacher, usual on a weekend to enhance training but to also bring in additional revenue for the school. Prof Draculino does this as well. The instructors are always world class. However, the seminars have always been for a benefit - e.g., raise money for Wounded Warriors program, a fund for a family of a student injured in the line duty, a fund to help medical expenses of a child with leukemia. While the school is a well-run business it also has a heart in the right place.Ive trained at several other martial schools over my life - judo, karate, aikido. This school is head and shoulders above the rest. By the way, Im an older guy and am not easily impressed. Ive run marathons before, but am now in the best shape of my life thanks to this school.

Draculino is by far one of the best instructors in the world. To be the best instructor in the world, doesnt just mean you have to be good at Jiu-Jitsu. You have to know how to explain Jiu-Jitsu to different types of people in the most efficient way. Draculino teaches in a progressive manner, so even when youre learning new things, you are reiterating all techniques you learned. Still, to be one of the best instructors in the world, you have to consider more than the countless world champions he is made in multiple weight classes; beyond all of that, Draculino is teaching you more than how to get good at Jiu-Jitsu..he is teaching you how to be a good person and to succeed in life!

Let me start off first by saying my son, who is now 9, has ADHD. He doesnt just kind of have it, he is one of the more extreme cases that I have ever been around and we noticed it when he was 2.When he was 4 I put him in T-Ball trying to run some of that energy out of him. That didnt work and he hated it. It was like I was having my teeth pulled out one by one when I took him to T-Ball. Not only that he was not a team player. For anyone who knows about kids with ADHD, they usually only do good in individual type sports. After T-Ball was over, I was relieved that I didnt have to go back again but I knew he needed some other type of sport to be active in. One of my husbands friends had mentioned to me trying him out in Jiu-Jitsu and told me of the place where he trained. We signed him up in 2009 and he has been going 3 times a week since then. It was almost like a weight had been lifted off of my shoulders and his. He is more balanced now than he has ever been. Professor Draculino is amazing with the kids. He is very patient, understanding, and has some good jokes. His staff and him are unbeatable!!! It is a very family oriented place and I have had the privilege of watching his son grow into a young man.I personally have tried gyms, personal trainers, bootcamps, and other exercise routines for myself and none of them made me happy. I am now a member of the Gracie Barra team. Pretty soon my daughter will be a member of the team. I recruit people daily to sign up and there is not one bad thing I can say about this fellowship! Let me tell you something, I have been practicing martial arts all my life from judo, savate, muay thai….you name it and I probably tried or still practice today, and I always thought that the ground game was really over rated. In my head I was not in need to hit the floor in any kind of self defense situation; why did I start brazilian jiu jitsu then? By accident…..I got injured while doing stand up and had to lay down for a long period of time and I realized I couldn’t do much of the stand up that I liked so much. After that shocking revelation I started doing some research about jiu jitsu schools around the area and found out on a chat that Dracs was coming in to town, first I didn’t know what was that, a name? a nick name?...anyway I kept doing research about him and his accomplishments, and got stunned for the idea to have one of the best in the world here in my back yard!! I met the guy before the school opened, and in between his accent and mine we probably did more of the Japanese tourist…smile and nod…The first day of open class came and it was a success full house…I have to say I was one of the 20 first in line to sign up. The truth was that I still was a little divided in between just waiting and go to my stand up, or just try something new….perhaps the best decision that I have taken in the last 5 years…and not to mention how lucky I was that it was so close… almost in my back yard!!.I can’t recall how many worlds champions we have had on the mats, but expect that, professor is the kind of guy who will share all his knowledge and will also let others to do the same. With so much recognition under his belt, you will find that he is not the “what I say and do is how it is” type of guy. Draculino, open minded, is the best description. The details are part of why our bjj is different, those little details that each individual works on their own capabilities are the ones who make world champions. We know that and to prove that is the fact that professor creates a lot of world champions. Here you will learn the fundamentals of bjj that are the same as the seniors practice and use today. It is those basic moves that are the solid base you will need for success…..your personal success. Here nobody will ask you or will push you into competing or doing tournaments. Instead you are privileged to train on competition training camps if you want. The best push to compete is not the one to compete in a tournament but the will to compete against the inner you to become a better you, a healthy you. Here you will find something really hard to find, somebody who puts his personals goals aside in order to fulfill the dreams and goals of his students even when at times you don’t believe in yourself, he will. That’s professor, a humble guy with the intention to make the best of you, even if you think that you are already a better you.So far I am still training and I have seen people come and go (mostly for relocation jobs),. I have seen kids become teens, and teens become adults, regular guys becoming world champions….guys and girls reshaping themselves…..some people are unrecognizable for how much weight they lost. I saw a group of complete strangers get together for a common love and with time it has turned us into a family. Also, be ready to have a nickname, yes sir or ma’am, your nickname will come and you will take it with pride! Yes, here you will be part of tide happy family who takes members with arms wide open, with no prejudices or conditions (and yes all big families do have a black sheep, don’t worry we will let you know if you are becoming one), the only way to get out of this family is because you want out, we never let go, we do what we know better. We help you to become a better you on and off the mats, to integrate to this complete group of strangers …our family.-Pedraooo

When I made the move to Houston, I was overwhelmed by the number of BJJ schools. However, I had known about Draculino’s reputation for a long time, and made it my first stop. I had no intention of going anywhere else after the first training session. About 2 1/2 years later Im still here, even though I live in Humble now and have quite a drive. So why do I fight Houston traffic to make it down to the school? Let me tell you:-For one, it offers a very complete line of classes (from small kids to teens to adults) in BJJ, Muay Thai, cardio classes, and wrestling all under the same roof. This isnt very common to find a school of a high-level that has cross-training on a high level as well. Its not a school where the instructor trained in kung-fu for 30 years and then decided to put Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA on their sign after watching a bit of Youtube. Draculino has a reputation to uphold and only has legitimate instructors teach classes.-The instructors truly know their art. I have never asked a question and felt I wasnt getting anything but the best (ie: no stalling, being misled, or politician answers here). This is very helpful, and why it is worth it to invest in a legit school if you want to be successful. They also encourage all sorts of different styles and techniques, so you won’t get criticized for trying different moves.-There are amazingly-talented students here that help me get better and challenge me to improve. Training with people better than you will make you better. Fortunately, the students here arent mean, so they help me out with my game (and others as well). This is key if investing in a gym with the intention of maximizing ones potential. It doesnt get any better than getting to train with a world champion at black belt (who trains with the students).-The environment is extremely non-egotistical. I think this is part of Draculinos success in creating so many world champions. I feel its a perfect training atmosphere combining hard work, technical instruction, and fun. The people here really are nice, and I always enjoy getting to see and train with everyone.-Its right off of the highway, which makes it very convenient.-There is plenty of parking! Its also patrolled day and night by security.-For newer students, there is a great curricula of classes to build your foundation. It is definitely the best way to get better as a newcomer.-Also, membership at Gracie Barra allows you to train for free at any Gracie Barra school across America at any time. Its sort of like a reciprocity agreement. Gypsies and business travelers love Gracie Barra. Its also great to train with some other people every now and then.-Coming from a small guy I can say there is no better martial art for self-defense for someone to be able to take on bigger, stronger, attackers. The ability to defend one’s self without taking any damage or even having to land a punch is another caveat. Having been bullied in the past, the ability to be comfortable with myself from the confidence in my training is truly priceless. In sum, there is something for everyone here. From the casual hobbyist to the most-dedicated competitor, this school truly caters to all.

I have been training at Gracie Barra Texas for a little over a year now. I can say what everyone knows, world class instructors and world class teaching but to me it is more than that. In less than a year at Gracie Barra Texas, I have become more confident on and off the mats. The professors make sure that you learn the details that make a big difference. Yes, an armbar can be an armbar, but if you do not have those small details you dont have a successful armbar. Same has been applied off the mats. The little details and thinking outside of the box has helped me make better choices in life.Along with confidence comes security. Professor Draculino, or as he calls himself at times, Uncle Draculino will teach and take care of you as if you were one of his family members. This brings peace and TRUST on the mats. Without the trust you have no team and without a team you have no family.Whether you are a competitor or just doing it for fun, the instructors (Draculino, Pablo, Brandon) will make sure that you are progressing and are not being left behind. So with this being said if you plan on training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Houston or just planning to come visit do not think twice about where to train. Make Gracie Barra Texas your home where we are all one team...one family.-Casca Grossa

My experience with Gracie Barra Texas has been great. I have trained at a lot of martial arts schools prior to Gracie Barra Texas but none of them made me feel that at home feeling. All of the instructors are world champions, but if you just met them without thier titles you would just say they are good down to earth kinda guys. From the moment I walked through the door I was treated with a level of respect that Ive come to understand is customary in the bjj community. The training is really world class. They offer kids bjj, kids muay thai, adult bjj, adult mma, adult muay thai, and cardio kickboxing for that really good burn.So if your looking to learn martial arts for self defense, competition, or just looking to get in really good shape, I highly recommend Gracie Barra Texas!

On any given day at Gracie Barra TX you will find multiple BJJ black belts with world championship success teaching and training. Leading the pack at GBTX is none other than Vinicius Draculino Magalhães who is a multiple time BJJ champion with MMA fighting experience. Aside from his impeccable credentials, Draculino is the most fair, clear, knowledgeable and detailed instructor in the state of Texas. Quite simply, it is the most impressive BJJ school I have ever been to.What makes it stand out from the rest? There are multiple chances to train at any level during the day (including childrens class, MMA, wrestling and Muay Thai).....this means you can train twice a day if want to. On top of that, all of the black belt instructors are world champions and there is always a black belt (or 5) on the mat. Real talk - if I listed every BJJ champion Ive trained with or have been trained by at this school it would be a LONG list!!!!In conclusion Gracie Barra TX is an excellent school with the clearest and most detailed instruction based on BJJ sport and actual MMA experience. It is second to none in the Texas and its instructors are second to none in the world. Go GBTX!!!- HC Mike

Where else can you find a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school with three highly-decorated, world-class black belts? Gracie Barra Texas, headed by the legendary and beloved Professor Vinicius Draculino Magalhaes, is a family-friendly and respected BJJ school that also offers Muay Thai, wrestling, MMA, and Judo instruction. This is THE best BJJ school in the Houston area, if not the entire state of Texas. See for yourself, just walk in and be amazed by the facilities, the friendly staff, and the quality instruction.

This is without a doubt the best place to train in Texas. Prof. Draculino has a vast wealth of knowledge when talkin about Brazilian Jiu jitsu, Muay Thai or MMA. He has more than 100 blackbelts under him, many who are world champions. Not to mention his students that are mixed martial artist; at the local amateur level all the way to full on professionals in the UFC. This Morgan person clearly has no idea what he is talking about. Im guessing he knew more about fighting than Prof. Draculino and the other professional fighter that was with him in that class. If you come into a new gym to do a trial lesson dont come in with an attitude that these guys dont know what they are doing, i know better. If your coach says shadow box for a round that doesnt mean do what you want and go get water. Its safe to assume the class didnt end early they most likely asked you to leave because of you wonderful attitude :/ so you retaliate by posting a bad review. Way to stick it to the man Morgan, you sure showed them.

Ive been at GBTX for about four years now and jiu jitsu has changed my life in so many ways. My children have and still do attend GBTX and both love it. Professor Draculino is a world class instructor as well as a world class person. He has nothing but top notch people working in his academy. Highly recommend Prof. Draculino and GBTX.

Gracie Barra Texas, is THE location to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu!! The owner and lead instructor, Vinicius Draculino Magalhaes is, no doubt about it, one of the best trainers in the world, just Google his name and check his credentials. The other full time professors Brandon wolverine Mullins and Pablo Silva, are multiple times World, PanAm, National and Regional Champions. The environment is great, very family oriented. You will find anything from school teachers, college professors, aerospace scientist training there as well as Professional Fighters. The kids programs are phenomenal!!! Also the Muai Thay program is managed by Kru Izzie, another real Martial Artist. The people that make this school, as well as the students are a real World Championship Level family. Great place to visit and train at!
