Nothing there works spas always closed lived there for 1 year spa was never open and gates are always broken and wide open even at midnight and dawn so anybody could go into the complex and out, there were always cars getting broken into I would see the police there once a month because of them so it’s not a safe complex at all, only time the gates ever “work” is when everyone starts apartment hunting around July/august and they’ll make the complex look presentable for about a month they’ll keep up with lawn care/maintenance by the front of the offices/apartments but if you go around the back sides or north gate exit you can see they don’t keep up with lawn care also…… (very important) be careful when you try to rent out a apartment from here they’ll show you a model with modern appliances and tell you that you’ll be “getting” this certain unit but then on move in day they’ll give you the keys to something that looks completely different and Run down terribly and has appliances from the early 90s or late 80s so be extremely careful with this place please do yourself a solid and look just a little bit longer for a different and better place for you to live at

I stopped in to get an apartment for my mother. Not only are the apartments beautiful and the grounds are clean, but the staff was fabulous. When I first came by to tour, I ended up stopping in just before they closed. Ooooppsss! Fortunately, the manager Barbi was super accommodating. She stayed and talked to me and didnt even rush even though it was past their closing time. Since then, every interaction I have had with her was great. She made this process easy, and I am confident that my mother is in a nice community. I looked at a lot of places. These apartments are great with and the customer service provided here is way above the others.

Its a nice and decent place to live. I do have some loud neighbors that like to slam their doors all night long, but I just push through it cause I know its part of living in an apartment sometimes. Barbi and Tayler and nice, as long as you are straight forward with them they are always willing to help you. Ive been here for 2 years, I will stay for another year, I need more room for my kiddos.

I lived her for about a year and it was not a good experience. The front office staff are so rude for absolutely no reason. Do not ask for Taylor or Robin they will give you rude looks and they have bad attitude.They raised my rent $100. I was living in a one bedroom and one bathroom. The prices are ridiculous! I heard from one of the maintenance guys that they raised the prices to kick all of the low income families out! They call these apartments “luxury” but there’s nothing luxury about them! The parking is terrible! There’s no where to park and people will have guest over and take all the cover parkings! I do not recommend

The entire time I lived here the office staff were terrific. Maintenance was prompt and efficient and the grounds and facilities were kept up really well. The adminstrators are really kind and helpful. The apartments also come with really nice terraces.

My kids apartment has been flooded for the third time. It has been one month. Alterra has not resolve this issue. My daughter-in-law called us at 6am asking for help. We brought over sand bags to keep water out of the apartment. The kids really like the complex. But the Alterra team have absolutely dropped the ball taking care of this serious issue.

Apartment flooded for the THIRD time. We’ve talked to them 6 times over the past month. The office and maintenance crew have said they would fix it, but they’ve done nothing. We had to go get sand bags to stop the flooding.

I have been here a few months now. Going through a big transition in life and I am BEYOND grateful for this complex and its staff. Pam was welcoming and informative when taking my application. She made the process a breeze. She was easy to get a hold of and thorough with all my needs and requests. Barb is a Boss who gets things done. All I had was a loose knob in my sink upon move in. Fixed within hours. She means business when it cones to her tenants and this property. Taylor is a patient and caring sweetheart who always takes her time with me when I need to pay rent or ask questions. Its a big property but she seems to remember us all by name and is always doing her work efficiently. They make this complex feel like acommunity! I am beyond satisfied with my choice to move in!

Pros: Alterra Apartments is a quiet, peaceful, and scenic community with updated amenities close to parks and shopping plazas. Neighbors are amicable.Cons: Residents and visitors drive recklessly through the parking lot daily with little to no regard for anyone elses safety. Residents leave trash outside of their front doors and on balconies. The rent is going up. Getting timely and efficient assistance from maintenance can take weeks or even months. You will have to check in and remind them of things that were listed on your walk through sheet that need to be repaired or replaced or remind them of previously placed work orders that have yet to be fulfilled. If not for you reminding them, the work order may not be fulfilled. So, if you want something fixed the question to ask yourself is,”How bad do I want this fixed?” When they can’t fulfill a work order in a timely manner they will say the delay is because of the pandemic but there was no delay in having everything needed to build a new gym and update the laundry rooms in a timely manner during the pandemic. They will lie and give you a time and date for when maintenance will show up but then maintenance doesn’t show up and you never receive a call or email update about what happened. They do NOT care.You may see some of the biggest roaches you’ve ever seen here! So, brace yourself for that. The community gate does is broken and they can’t afford to pay for it to be fixed, so anyone can drive or waltz into the community. Very secure. They will tell you that if you need assistance or have questions to call the office and not to email because emails get backed up. If you call and they know it’s you calling and they don’t want to be bothered with you, they will NOT answer the phone. However, if you dial *67 before dialing your phone number or call from a different number that they don’t suspect is you, then they’ll answer. The shock in their voice when they realize it’s you after they’ve ignored your other phone call(s) is priceless. Totally caught off guard. It’s hilarious and pathetic. Unfortunately, an answered call from them does not guarantee you’ll get the help you need in a timely fashion, if at all. So, please keep that in mind.Taylor is “fake nice”. As long as you don’t need her help with anything you won’t get snarky and rude remarks from her. If you express concerns to her on multiple occasions (multiple because they are slow at addressing initial concerns) she will downplay and minimize your concerns, common sense, and intellect. If she loathes her job she should quit. Residents don’t want to talk to the office staff unless we have to. We’re not trying to bother you all, we just want to get things taken care of. Maybe if things were more orderly and efficient here we wouldn’t need to call the office at all. Consider that!

Cockroaches!So I moved in almost a year ago, I have reported the roach problem they have here in a lot of the buildings since moving in. All that has been done is they spray and they told me thats all they can honestly do, they have sprayed 4 times. Till this day the roaches come out so if you plan on moving here be ready for roaches.Another important thing to note is look at the Google reviews for their corporate company Rincon Partners. They have been know to buy a place and raise the rent by $200 which obviously its not worth it. Thats exactly what they did to me.Now they are going to reply to this comment and say if there is anything they can do they will. Thats not true I have called and talked to Barb and then talk to corporate. Nothing has been done.Ooo a fun thing that just happened to me is that they sprayed the apartment next to me and the fumes where so strong I got a really big headache and couldnt sleep here, I informed them of this and Barb told me that that is just part of living in apartments but that she would try to talk to corporate, have not heard back from her.So moral of the story if you like roaches, not being heard, and expensive rent this is the place for you.

Dishonest Reviews. Barbie is juggling the office. Taylor is rude, she gives you looks like your bothering her. I cant believe she still working their. As for the other staff they are great maintenance are prompt. The pool area is nice and they keep the playground clean. Laundrys are looking better. I recommend living here just dont ask for Taylor.

Been here for almost year and have nothing but nice things to say for the staff especially Barbie she has really taken this place and cleaned it up and is very easy to talk with considering some of the challenges she gets from some unappreciative tenants she always keeps us updated And as busy as as she is she takes time to listen. Keep it ....

Honestly, nothing big wrong with the place. Parking is a joke. My neighbor takes up three covered spots so I can never find one close to my unit. The ONE laundry room that is open is always packed. People leave their laundry there for hours so good luck finding a machine ( yes I have called the office and was told to remove the laundry myself, no thanks). Couple water bugs have made their way in and a few beetles but no roaches so far. Pool areas could be cleaner and a lot of people dump their furniture near the dumpsters. Seems like new owners/management are trying to make things better but its slow.

The office staff here are genuinely caring and do their best to take care of the residents. Any time I had a maintenance issue they took care of it. Apartments are decent for the price and the community seems safe. Feels like you’re in the city but tucked away on a road that isn’t used as much. Thanks guys!

The rebranding of the name of these apartments is a ploy to back out of all the allusions and mistreatment of the residents who live here. Within one year i have gotten a hold of maintenance once while calling a hundred times to get ahold ghosts that run management . The apartments come with an assortment of bugs including nasty cockroaches who fight in front of the trash and the slither their way into your home. maintenance could care less about quality with quick fixes, painting over metal, cheep floors made of a paper and other hazards like stairs falling apart and sunken in balconies i’m too scared to walk on. The cheap rent comes with a horrible cost of bugs and no management and even blatant lies trying to milk your of all your money. DO NOT COME HERE LOOK FOR SOMEWHERE BETTER..

The experience in the beginning was a MESS and very FRUSTRATING back in 2019. First time going in to look at the apartment and discuss the move in date, paid $290, $250 for the admin fee and $40 for the application. Was in contact with one of the ladies that we spoke too (Kathryn) and kept asking when we could see our actual apartment. We came in around late October, lease was up in December. Saw the apartment the week before Thanksgiving. And during that time there was a management sweep out. All of management changed. They were honoring the prorated price that old management told us. Now, renters insurance wasnt required before, but I still got it just to be on the safe side, since the water heater is in your master closet. I was originally told my move in cost were around $785, okay that was reasonable and I already have it set aside. I get told that the renters insurance is required, so I called and it HAS to be through the company they provide. Which is BS, so then I asked about the moving cost, now it went up to $825. Which is frustrating to be told a day before your move in!My unit had poor lighting, the walls were gray so it made it a little darker than usual. They paint over stains and mold in the bath tub.. My last apartment was upstairs and now Im downstairs, it SUCKS, the neighbors upstairs are constantly POUNDING on the floor, they have dogs that you hear running across the room all the time, barking and jumping. I never see them take them out to use the bathroom. Ive seen an influx of flies, so I guarantee they have thier dogs using the bathroom on the balcony. I never had this problem with our neighbors before that had pets, why THEY TOOK THEM OUT TO THE BATHROOM.  Pest control wasnt all that great, no matter how many times you called and requested it, most the time they did not show, so take care of those pesky bugs yourself. You can hear peoples conversations, the walls are just too thin 🤦🏽‍♀️ People with animals should be either on the bottom or they can have dedicated units for them to avoid the noise and these people NEVER pick up after them, you always see dog poop on the sidewalk. Its not managements job to pick up after dogs. I live across the maintenance office, they have a camera on the building, at the time I didnt get my security system yet, and what do you know someone tried breaking in through my livingroom, of course that security camera doesnt work. Towards the last month of my lease, it was a catastrophe being 6.5 months pregnant going back and forth with another apartment and a house rental place for the past few months to be told last minute they had no units available for my move in date and I was told this 2 weeks before my move out date (Im not a last minute person either) had to extend my lease with Los Portales (Alterra), but Barbi was very helpful during the process. I didnt renew my lease another year with them because the rent went up to $850 and I felt like it wasnt worth it for the size of the apartment, I did like the wood like flooring and kitchen area but everything else was just small. The pool area is nice and they keep the playground clean. Maintenance staff was pretty cool and chill, very prompt. Overall, I give the apartments 3 stars for the potential they have but management 4 stars since Barbi helped me a lot and Taylor was always respectful and helpfulas well. The apartments have a few minor issues to work on, eventually they could be a great place.

Management team is always a great help with anything that is needed. Barbie and Taylor have been essential in my transition to Tucson. Maintenance is always polite and completes work orders in a timely manner. I continually observe updating to the amenities and facilities. The pools and spas have been upgraded. The property is continually being renovated which is ideal to me. The property is surprisingly quiet at least to me compared to some places I have been. Easy access to all shopping and restaurants. Also if you like antique shopping there are some stores close by as well. I also enjoy the fact that it is a gated community on a quite road. New update the maintenance team is amazing and ensures the task that needs to be is accomplished. They are friendly and polite as well as professional 😃. Thanks a million Anwar and Francisco.

Definitely wouldn’t recommend these apartments .The office will find anything to charge for when moving out, overcharged rent, roaches . My floor wasn’t not fixed half of living there and my kids would trip on the rough flooring . They didn’t care to fix it right away, very poor maintenance .

I was not going to share my story, but due to Taylor Hood Continuously being extremely rude both on the phone and in person I am! I was supposed to move in on August 27th Taylor called me, and immediately asked me to move onto the second floor because the apartment was not ready. Then asked me to move my date back to the 1st of September I agreed. I then go on the first sign my lease walk in to my new apartment. I’m doing walk through, and you wouldn’t believe what I came to find! Roaches yes roaches los Portales called an exterminator the same day asked me to move my date back two days. The date of move in comes again and I get a phone call stating the apartment was not ready that there’s still movement so they are going to have to extend my move in once again. Los Portales told Me repeatedly that they were going to try to fix the problem or move me to another downstairs apartment. Los Portales then told my mother that even if they had to get me in after hours that they will get me in that day. Same day she told my mother one thing they tell me that it’s not going to be ready until the following Wednesday September 8th due to putting in a new carpet. The next day I was told that it won’t be ready until a later date due to painting. Los Portales was definitely giving me a run around. Later that day I decided to go somewhere else! Today September 7th I went to get my money orders and Taylor opens the door asked me if she can help me. I tell her I’m here to get my money orders so she asked me “and who are you“.. I tell her my name she tells me to hold on. Comes back and barley opens the door put her armed out and says “here”. I’m not sure as to why I was treated in such a manner. I Do Not Recommend anyone to live here!! Save yourself the stress!

Yeah so my sister has been living in these apartments for years now and i just cant wait for there lease to end cuz these apartments have the worst infestation of cockroaches and its quite disgusting because three years that theyve lived here I always see them crawling everywhere. I just cant wait for there lease to end!!

Over all Los Portales Apartmoents (ie, Alterra Apartments) is a decent community to live in. Barb and Taylor do their best to help make it so.

Love this place. Barbie in the front office is amazing. Very attentive to any concerns or questions. When I have a maintenance request (which is very rare) the respond quick and efficient. 2 pools big playground amd a soccer field for the kids to keep busy. Just renewed for another year 😁

Since the new owners i give them 5 stars. Anywhere you go a place getting new owners in it takes a min to get in the groove and they are doing a great job at doing so especially in this hard time with the virus. they have been nothing but helpful with my father with the passing of my grandfather, last management was horrible i always felt not welcomed at my own fathers apt. my father and beloved grandfather have been here 7 years. since my grandfather passed in nov 2019 my father was going to look for a affordable 1 bedroom somewhere either here or else where. no other complex was as good as these. the crime rate is so low i feel safe walking around at night alone walking the dogs. also they are very quite. its a very friendly community. I HIGHLY recommend living here its very comfortable.

I was a former resident here for 10+ years. I loved the place. The grounds are beautiful. I needed help from the management team for reference and they responded with the urgency needed.... They were friendly, and professional and couldnt have asked for more!

Taylor has been very kind and helpful when I’ve been in the office for instance I went to inform them the sink in the laundry room was leaking and she got maintenance on it in less than 15 minutes.

Nice complex. I dont live here but family does & it is family, children & pet friendly. They have nice amenities. A BIG plus is 2 pools & one is actually heated unlike other complexes. I have lived 3 places that had heated pool when moved in then they quit heating it. Los Portales hasnt.

Not too pleased with the new owners. Nothing has gotten fixed that Ive asked months ago. I have two broken stairs that Ive fallen down twice and almost needed stitches. STILL NOT FIXED. Also our floors are falling apart and no one has tried to fix it after asking 2+ months ago. With the new lease they no longer want to take off for First responders. What a shame. I used to love it when I first moved in.

I am currently a resident here and have loved the staff and the apartment. Anytime I have a concern management has been there to answer my questions and provide me with service. The apartment was newly renovated and I love the modern feel to it. I have a one bedroom one bathroom apartment and the rent is decent for the size. No complaints here!

Been here 3 years still cant get my floor fixed always paid my rent now that I need help they wont do it Barbie is so fake acts like shes caring and listening when she can care less she just nods and smiles to shut you up wish the old people were still here at least they worked with you.

Using my grandsons tablet. Penny resident.I AM UNHAPPY. Moved in last week of Oct. Under old owner with 2 heated pool at 79-80 degrees, by thanks giving only one pool heated and by Feb the only one heated is only kept at 73 degrees.Choose this complex because of heated pool for my arthritis, was in pool 2-3 hours a day 5 or more days a week the first 4 weeks.New management always seems to care but it has not improved the situation. Hot tubs are nice but cant walk or exercise in them.

My friend lives here very nice apartments. Clean and landscape is beautiful.Tree lined street. My friend is very happy here.. Kinda small lacks kitchen drawns.But will recomend these apartments.

Great apartments. I love the covered parking. Has a basket ball court pool and hot tub. Very peaceful and beautiful. Landscaping well kept.

Stay away from this place!!!!!!! lived there for a year and couldnt wait to get out. A lot of crazy people live here. Drunk people yelling in the middle of the street couples arguing outside. Called security several time and no one would show up. Went to the office the next day and they did absolutely nothing! Had my BF truck broken into. Management has no idea what they are talking about. Oh and this is the best part I havent received my deposit back. State of Arizona law says if you dont receive a deposit 14 business day after your move out date you are suppose to receive your FULL deposit back DOUBLE the amount. At first management blamed me for saying I didnt put the right forwarding address but I have a copy of my move out inspection with my right forwarding address. Than they decided to blame the post office for losing my check.. yeah right. Called and called them to let them know I wanted my deposit back and office would ignore me completely I had to go in the office on my lunch break from work for them to talk to me. Manager Amy knew exactly who I was when I walked in saying she just received an email from corporate saying they just cut me a check and was gonna mail it out the next time corporate mails out checks and thats it. I asked if it was gonna be double the amount and she said she didnt know. Of course it has to be double the amount !!! Its almost a month and half late!!!! They are so unprofessional!!! And Amy is so rude and clues less half of the time.!!! Oh and they will randomly shut off your water without giving you notice been late to work so many times because Ive had no water to shower! Stay away!!!!!

This use to be such a nice place to live. It has new owners. Joshua from the office of the is extremely rude. Theyve made all these changes with no regards to the residents. Ive heard numerous complaints from the residents and many will not be renewing their leases because of the new management .

WOW! Really disappointed at the lack of professional behavior by the office staff. My spanish speaking mother in law - who is as quiet as a church mouse - has lived there for the past nine years. Her lease recently ended and she converted to a month to month (with an added premium to the payment). She was not sure if she could afford to stay after retiring and going on social security. My wife and I went to the office to finish the lease - at the end of the month, and was amazed at the behavior of the office staff! After renting on time for nine years and paying a premium for the month to month option they wanted 30 days more rent for lack of notice. I understood their position and was asking for a little wiggle room. If they had been nice / conversational I would have understood. Instead I was repeatedly interrupted and met with attitudes way more rude than necessary. Dont expect them to cut you any slack or to even act professionally. And just like another review here noted - dont expect maintenance to get done on your unit without repeated calls.

Ive lived here for about three years now and the experience isnt what I hoped for. The walls are quite thin. A few inconsiderate neighbors have driven very fast which has led to near accidents with my mother and I. It sounds as if people are always on the roof at day and night. As a night owl Ive heard footsteps and feel the presence of others. People always blare their music. I wouldnt recommend this place if youre searching for a peaceful area. Its loud and disturbing with horrible care. Another fun fact, as I was home one day I had my patio door open and heard some workers finding mold on the roof. All they said was to paint it up. I really dont recommend it here.

Had to bug corporate for repairs in my unit, I also have a hole in my balcony, there version of fixing it was to throw a piece of plywood over it. The manager Josh prefers to yell at you instead of actually solving the issue. Save your money and piece of mind dont move here.

Lived in a studio at Los Portales for 2 1/2 years. When moving out I never received my deposit money back, even though I was promised one after my final walk through. Reyna, the office manager, runs a completely UNprofessional office. I called asking for answers and she never called me back. I personally had to drive to the office to get any information out of anyone. Upon moving out one of the ladies up front said, Im not really sure of the moving out procedures here. Absolutely asinine.I wouldnt wish for my worst enemy to live here. Good luck. I really hope this review helps anyone looking to find an apartment.

As soon as they find out you havent walked in the door to give them money they flip from polite and professional into petty bad mouthing children making any claim or negative comment they can to let you know youre inturupting all the time they sit on their asses and screw over residents. Would never live their again. And wouldnt suggest anyone else move in either.

Ever since they changed management a month ago they leave the gates open day and night. So when I come home after work theres no where to park because of unauthorized cars without the windshield sticker being parked here. I have to walk two buildings down from the parking spot I found to my apartment carrying grocery bags. You cannot call it a gated community now.

After being here for 3 years I can honestly say you don’t want to rent from here it was bad before the new company took over this place they had landscaping 5 days a week starting as early as 7am I lost my night job because I couldn’t get any rest from all the noise from landscapers everyday all day the maintenance guy was incompetent as they come six months we waited to get the dishwasher fixed because it was flooding our apartment we had to rig the water in our kitchen to stop the flooding for six months before they finally fixed it and the dishwasher still doesn’t work they left us with out ac for a whole month and they won’t fix the freon leak they just keep refilling it they will shut off the water for the whole complex without any prior notice for something as simple as changing a broken Facuet or a leaking dishwasher this is illegal in Arizona mind you and now with the new company they have started construction all over the complex yet again with little to no prior notice and the incompetent maintenance man I spoke of earlier is now the manager so we will be canceling our lease here soon and I advise anyone to consider other apartments before theseOther notes paper thin walls, limited parking,rude management, no playgrounds “anymore “ and poor landscape

Worst place ever. I live below the noisiest people who are up 24/7, the apartments will do nothing! Ive called patrol and police many times with still nothing to be done. They leave my upstairs neighbor theae silly Shhhh be quiet, you have neighbors and live in an apartment notice for my neighbors to crumple it up and leave it on my door step. I give them back to the office. First time I had music too loud they immediately gave me a 10 day notice to fix it or move out, what upset me was my neighbors who are very noisy never got this serious of a notice and I reported them regularly. I know they didnt get this notice because all their notices get crumpled up and left on my door step. Apartment people dont care here. 1 day late on rent March 2016 and they left a note that said I was late and if I didnt pay by the 5th Im evicted and the note indicated a 75$ late fee on top of my rent for the first day late!!! WORST PLACE EVER. The apartments are spacious bedrooms which is great with small living rooms but the place is very poorly run.

Jodi the manager cant manage crap as an apartment manager and will not fix stuff it it breaks. I had to call the city of Tucson at least 4 times to get them to fix my issues. They even had the nerve to charge me full rent when my water heater went out and not offer to let me shower in another apartment until it got fixed. Instead the guy that did work there said you dont need got water its 100 outside? They also told me they couldnt put me in another apartment when my AC broke and said sorry, maintenance will be back after the weekend and refused to put me in another apartment and stated we dont have another one to put you in, refused offer portable A/C, or pay for a hotel temporary. Once again I called Mr Lopez with the city of Tucson and they called me back saying ok we have an apartment now for you. Unless theyre are forced to do something theyll will not fix anything in my place without getting inspector involved. Never rent here until the get a new property manager or owner for that matter.

I lived at these apartments and they look nice on the outside but inside there full of mold and they just paint over it and they never fix anything dont move here big mistake

Since the new owner Josh has taken over the property things are really changing. There is a new playground for the kids. They have planted bushes and trees. Plus they are painting all the buildings. Everything is looking fantastic!!!!

A lot of families with kids. Entry has too many speed bumps. 1 would suffice.

I got home from work and it was 89 degrees in my apartment when I have it set to 78, I called for someone to come fix it and nobody could come until the morning my son is sweating and my puppy is panting, ridiculous service.

Place is a rip off. 250 Non refundable administration fee, 40 for application and still pay 1st months rent. I urge people to stay away. Apparently they think people are made of money.
