Live in the neighborhood for over 10 years and never found a local spot I liked for a mani/pedi until I met Candy yesterday. I would always trek to Tribeca which was crowded and $$$. Its an oasis on the 2nd floor with cool view of the Federal Reserve, great value and personal attention. Candy is remodeling and re opens Sept 2021 and I cant wait to go back and try out some other services.
I’ve been coming here on and off for 7 years. Always friendly, solid service. What I like the most is they remember me. The place is kind of a dive but is sanitary. I also appreciate they aren’t pushy outside of extra massage time. Something about their manicures makes them last a couple of extra days than typical for me. They also offer you a little bottled water at no charge!
Nice staff always friendly
I was skeptical at first because of the low prices, but I can honestly say Candy Nail Salon continues to give me some of the best manicures I’ve ever had! I work in a preschool, so I’m constantly washing my hands countless times and picking up toys and children. Their gel manicures lasted almost an entire theee weeks on my nails! Great quality and the ladies there are so professional and friendly.
I love the service here. Very neat place. Love candy.
Terrible service and unpleasant atmosphere....Manicurist Annie, who did my manicure, did not want to cut cuticles when I asked (I really thought this is what manicure is all about) and then hold the cuticle cutter in-properly. Then I was told not to come back during lunch time because she is too busy. On top of that she had an attitude.Ambience- TACKY. Uncomfortable/ ugly/ dirty chair cushions at the dry station and flies all over. They DO NOT disinfect their tools or work stations. They DO NOT speak English! The charges for manicure are ridiculous - they simply add up like $3 to use second top of color, $3 to cut, $3 to remove, $2 to look, $4 to paste.....The total cost = $38 for regular mani plus $5 minimum tip which is mandatory in this place!!! and...Extra Charge if paying with credit card.Horrible... I do not recommend this place to anyone....
So I go in, asking about a full set. She tells me a full set was $42. I say okay, sit down and she starts taking my nails off. Then another woman comes and tells me that to take my nails off is another $10 on top of the $42. By this time the first woman had broken my nail and they were unwilling to fix their mistake. This nail salon is the biggest waste of space in the city! Dont waste your time!
I go here specifically for the SNS powder French manicure. The lady who does my mails is named Sandy and she is there Thursday & Friday only. I work with my hands and this is the best nail manicure for me. I go to this salon twice a month. Is it in a dingy, ugly building with outdated decor? yes. Are the manicurists quiet, untalkative, or have limited English? Yes, many of them are. But I have been very pleased with the services they have provided to me. I will continue to use this salon. They also seem to do a VERY STEADY stream of customers, who rarely seem dissatisfied. I hope this tepid review is helpful.
Dont think Ive ever been to a more terrible nail salon. The women assigned to me cut my cuticle really bad (like worse than the typical nick) and while I was applying pressure with a gauze yelled at me to give more tip since they have a rule you have to give more than $5. I didnt think I got the service for more than what I gave so she continued to yell and another women even came to scold me as well and just gave me dirty looks the remaining time I was there. It was so uncomfortable. Do yourself a favor and go to Anns right across the street for the same $20 dollar mani/pedi deal with much nicer & more professional ladies. .
I went here to get my acrylic filled in and left extremely unhappy. They advertise fill ins at $25 which is pretty standard but they are the only salon I have ever been to that charges a full manicure price for polish on fill ins AND charges to shape the nail (they completely botched the great shape I walked in with and had specifically asked them not to touch). Not to mention they did not tell me any of this until my cash was in their hand and they were asking me for more. What I expected to be a $35-40 trip to the salon cost me $60 + tip and they looked surprised / insulted when I (though angrily) handed them a 20% tip. I shouldnt have tipped them at all and instead considered the extra charges their tips but I didnt fully process what had happened until I walked out the door fuming. I would consider the job done on my nails average and the atmosphere very poor and gloomy. Try a different salon, dont waste your money here.
Completely disgusting, they were hurting my nails, so violent, now i have all of my fingers in red and inflamated. The colors are not the same in their place like in the street, they have a dark light so now I have permanent fluorescent colors and i hate them. The joke was near to $100 they forced me to pay 20% tip, it was a little violent to see the girls working there stopping what they were doing when I said I was not happy at all with what they did to me and treating me to pay the maximum tip, so I was scared and I gave them tip. Please do not go there. Hopping it closes very soon.
It is very cheap - one of the only places in the city that offers SNS nails. the ladies who work there are a bit rude though - good thing is they dont care to talk and I would rather listen to my music! The decor is not that great, but I love the free chocolate by the drying station!I usually go near the close and they do my mani and pedi at the same time. Ideal for me :)
I was a customer for years with this nail salon and it has been on the decline to the point that I will not return ever again. The women here have very bad attitudes, I treated several young ladies for their prom to manis/pedis. They butchered two of the girls and treated them bad and not to mentioned stressed them over a tip and I was the one paying the bill. The office I work in is around the corner and I sent the young ladies ahead of me to get started. Shameful and disgusting that they would treat teenagers this way. I was disgusted and will not support this business again. Theres a major language barrier and inexperienced nail techs and these salons get away with it.Their business cannot be found on the Better Business Bureau to file a proper complaint and that speaks in volumes. Should you have any legal issues on their property it would be difficult to move against them.
Terrible job all around. Do NOT go here for lovely nails. Complete joke of a shop. Nails disaster after 2 days. Rude woman tried to force a large tip or I was not able to use a credit card to pay? They should be shut down!
The manicurist was rough at times and surprised me by telling me there is a minimum tip. i give 15% and they wanted 25%. i told them tips are voluntary but i felt forced to give it to them. on top of that i had another customer berate me for not giving the tip when i did! do not plan on going back.
After reading reviews of several places in the area, I decided to check out Candy Nail Salon. The area is usually pretty quiet on weekends, so I didnt make an appointment. I did, however, drag my sister with me. When we first arrived at the address, I wanted to turn around. It looked like a dirty, old building with only a sign propped up against the door. But I wanted to get a mani/pedi before Christmas, so we made our way up the stairs. The floor opens up and theres a couch against the right wall) and the bathroom is to the left. We lingered at the door for a while and a lady asked what we wanted. I told her Id like the mani/pedi special ($16.75 cash with a minimum of $5 for tip). She told me to pick a color which took longer than necessary as I didnt see the chart they had near the polishes. I picked out one of my favorite colors (Mademoiselle) and Nancy directed me to a pedi chair. There were 2 other women already getting pedicures and the rest of the chairs were covered with stools. My toenails were clipped, filed slightly and cleaned; my cuticles were pushed back and cut; my foot was scrubbed with lotion using a pumice stone. At this time, my sister decided shed get a manicure. She was told manicures cost $8.50 (although the signs all say $8). And her manicure was quick! I was barely done with my pedicure when she was moved to the drying stations. I later found out (after we left) they cut her nails much shorter and squarer than she wanted and the polish had tons of bubbles.Nancy put lotion on my lower legs and wiped it off immediately with a hot towel. My pedicure was complete after a base layer, 2 coats of polish, and a top coat. I wish I had more time to check out the massaging chair.Next, I was moved to a table where fans went to work drying my toenails. The manicure was just as quick and procedural as the pedicure. The only time Nancy spoke to me was to ask whether I wanted to cut my nails (a little). I also asked her to keep my nails round, which she said she would (but didnt really). I paid $22 before the polish went on. Mademoiselle is light but my nails look like they were only painted with a clear coat. After 15-20 minutes of drying, we left. By then 3-4 more people had come in for the same deal. (Apparently they usually let you substitute the regular manicure for gel, but not over the weekend.) I cant say wed be tripping over myself to come back; they need to take a little more time and care with their service, but overall, the place got the job done.
The WORSE nail service ever . they didnt give me remotely close to what i requested, were rough when handeling my nails, my cuticles were bleeding and they still wanted to charge 45.00 when i could have had a way better job done somewhere else. just saying not worth the price or the hassle complete rip off!!!!!!!!!
This place totally sucked. Ive been there several times and the last two visits were horrible service. I left there today not ever wanting to return.
