Nail technicians are great but customer service is very poor - I don’t usually review things but I want to warn people that they only book specific techs at specific times for different types of manicures. With this in mind, they made a mistake with booking a weekly special and didn’t try to correct it when I came in. I let this slide and paid more for their regular services. A few weeks later, I called to book another appointment as the nails are good quality. However, when I called to reschedule due to a work conflict, I found that the appointment hadn’t been booked at all and they had no suggestions on how to rectify it. Was super excited about the nail art but given the poor service, going to Spa Blue or elsewhere instead.
I would highly recommend looking for another place for your nails. The name got to their heads and they are much more concerned about the money you’re paying them than customer satisfaction. Let me elaborate on this. I made an appointment to get my wedding nails done here (yes, it’s a big day ) so you would think they would make it as magical as they advertised on their website. When I arrived to the place I had gel on one hand that needed to be removed. The nail tech suggested she will only paint my nails one color ( no design) because it would take her 30 minutes!!! To take off my gel. So I’m assuming it would be an hour to remove the gel from both hands?! It’s ridiculous. I explained to my nail tech, I respected that but when I made my appointment that should have been one of the questions asked being that no nail salon I’ve been to requires 30 minutes to remove the gel from one hand. I declined the service because there was no way I drove (1hr 20mins) for one color gel. At this moment, the receptionist Alejandra comes over and asked me “ if there’s anything she can help me with” not even introducing herself or acknowledging the situation as she was in the room the entire time. I explained to her I was declining service because I was not okay with getting one color with no design. She proceeded to say “ I understand but our protocol is that I would have to charge you for a full service” This is when I was extremely dissatisfied. Not only did she not try to diffuse the situation, she automatically just explained to me that I needed to pay for something I didn’t get done. on top of that she explained that I should have informed the front desk I had gel. How ridiculous is this- if it takes 30 minutes per hand to remove gel in the facility that needs to be something they make the customer aware of when making the appointment to know what to expect. I told her I wasn’t paying a single dime and she proceeded by saying she would provide me with the manager’s email so I can reach out for them to review it ( after she charges my card) She was so inconsiderate, unprofessional and clearly has no sense of awareness for customer service. She tells me to go over to the front desk to see if she can accommodate my appointment and says “ lucky for you (excuse me?) I have good news. .There’s another appointment at 5 pm.” My original appointment was 10am so I explained I couldn’t just hang out all day there because I’m not from the area and I had a lot of things to get done. She responded very sarcastically “ oh you don’t need to hang out in the salon you can explore the area” At this point, I realized I was wasting my time with someone who clearly didn’t get the point of it at all and told her I wasn’t interested in any service and she proceeded to mention that She would charge my credit card on file because those are the protocols. But if she was so okay about the protocols how come realizing that they failed to make my appointment correctly was failing to the protocol to begin with. After a back and forth I remember asking her what was the credit card on file and they didn’t even have anything on the account so I walked out. The fact that she was willing to charge my credit card without any service being done, completely ignoring the fact that they failed to communicate their expectations from their clients and how unprofessional and sarcastic she was, I would never return to this place. I can’t respect businesses that care more about the money and quantity of people they take; than making actual connections with their clients and making us feel like our money means nothing.
My boyfriend got a gift card for this salon. When I called the receptionist was pretty rude and unhelpful. She said they had no availability for what I was requesting. I hung up promptly because the negative and condescending attitude was unpleasant. I went online to verify there was in fact no availability and there actually was. I made the appointment online and included a note explaining my experience with the receptionist and let them know the only reason I was continuing to make an appointment was because I was given a gift card. They asked me to put my credit card on file when reserving online. We arrived and had our nails done with skill. My boyfriend showed up at the end and put the balance after the gift card on his own card. The receptionist told me as much and said my card would not be charged. Just reviewed my card statement and they charged me some random amount that wasn’t even the amount balance for my own transaction. The salon is skilled at doing nails. The place is extremely over priced. The receptionists are rude apparently can’t use a credit card machine. I want my money refunded. I won’t be back and I don’t recommend this salon at all.*******Update and response to the owner. I’m out of the country right now but will be calling when I get back in the city. This situation was not rectified because I was still charged 158.50$ when I should have been charged NOTHING. The balance was paid on my boyfriend’s card. Please don’t say you’ve rectified a situation on google reviews when you clearly haven’t.
One of the worst experiences I have ever had getting my nails done. Almost $200 for a solid color gel acrylic manicure and the girl at the front desk tried to charge me for nail art that I did not even get. Less than 2 weeks after this manicure every nail stated chipping and 2 have already lifted. Do not go here
Very organized and calm setting. It is appointment based, which I think is what helps the area not become overcrowded. The women are very talented and super sweet. I go to Ayumu & shes amazing. From what Ive witnessed, so is everyone else there. Cant wait to do some crazy cool designs.
This is a small hip place you might miss walking by. Ive been here twice for a real SPLURGE of a gel manicure with art (see photos). Staff is generally friendly, offering espresso or water upon arrival. The artists are incredibly talented. Ive been very happy with my nails afterwards - they last a long time, dont chip, peel or break. I just wish it wasnt soooooo expensive at gel starting at $40 + $10 per individual nail art, its certainly a treat.
CeCe was amazing! I was in NYC (for a last minute trip) & had trouble finding a salon that could squeeze me in. Vanity Projects had an opening (due to a cancellation) so I quick ran over there from my hotel in Soho. CeCe was so wonderful and I absolutely love my manicure. I cannot believe all their reviews arent 5 stars - they deserve it based on my experience! Highly recommend.
Amazing nail art and talented artists. Not giving 5 stars because it’s a bit over priced for the simplicity of the design.
I loved the experience my manicurist was polite and very very detailed and efficient she would stop every so often and ask how I liked the progress on my nails. With the type of nails I got, acrylic there was not a lot of filing and drilling. It was just enough to get what she needed done. And the nail lacquers they used...so fancy. The whole experience and the nails is exactly what I paid for and got....And she is also the type of manicurist that I love....quiet. I dont necessarily want conversation when I get my nails done and she respected that. The spot is very cute the vibe is on point. Well worth aaaaall my money. Lol!
Misako was great! Specializing in nail art rather than actual manicure, (the service skips the traditional nail scrub, cuticle care, moisturizing skin techniques)
I only get my nails done here, and I only even get my nails done once a year :)
The receptionist was so condensing, I get it, you’re taking phone calls all day, but I’m trying to book a service and it’s like she couldn’t be bothered. Staying with my appointment, but will not return after this. Treat customers like they’re welcome and you’ll have loyal ones.
I’ve been twice and I have yet to find nail artists better than at Vanity Projects. The artists are creative and make things better than I could imagine.First time, I showed a few pics of nail designs I liked and she created something even better. The second time (different nail artist), I showed a pattern I liked on Pinterest as inspiration but she replicated the exact, super detailed design. It was beyond what I expected.
They don’t respect their customers. Try to up charge the services. Like, I want to go in get my nails done as agreed and just relax, not be hounded. Just want more customers, they don’t care about keeping the old ones though.
I had a nice experience until I went to pay. Salon attempted to charge me $50 for a pedicure (it’s $40 online) and added a $5 fee for “hard gel,” which I never asked for nor was I told I was getting. To be clear, I didnt pay it, but I shouldnt have to question the front desk as the owner states below. Then less than a week after the manicure the edges began to lift and a few days later one nail fell completely off. I didn’t even feel it... that’s how loose it was. Needless to say, I will not be going back. Not even for a fix as the owner states below. I live quite far (UWS) and traveled to this salon expecting the manicure to last two weeks as it ALWAYS does with other gel manicures that I have received. I should not have to travel back to fix it... it should just stay.
I was in the area for a conference and was in need of a manicure. I usually get the standard gel mani/pedi, but today I wanted to try a designer logo on my nails. This place delivered! Staff has a steady hand and was able to design my nails! The place is clean and prices are very reasonable! Thank you!
The best!!! Thank you Ayuku!❤️😘
Its very important for me to have clean nails as I work with big banking clients. This salon was more disappointing than I had expected. The service isnt all that great. Its really difficult to find a nice decent place in NYC... I just get my services done back home now.
I’m not giving a 1, because the lady who did my nails was sweet. But listen. I’m not booking an appointment a month ahead, you call and email me multiple times up until the day before to confirm the appointment, and then let me know THE MORNING OF that there were “scheduling issues.” I was so shocked by the unprofessionalism that I went off on the girl on the phone, who then proceeded to say that they can have me come in half an hour later than scheduled. Oh suddenly, you have an opening? Also, this place is overpriced. Especially if you want something simple, I’d head elsewhere. I doubt anywhere else would have scheduling issues.
Been looking forward to checking this place out for a minute. Kind of bummed out. Clean nice space but the girl behind the counter is unfriendly unhelpful and curt. Didn’t want to help or seem to care. It wasn’t busy and anyone walking through your door is an opportunity for business. Smile and be welcoming.
I signed up online for a regular polish with medium tier nail art. The artist told me she couldnt do any of the designs and tried to upsell me gel. I dont do gel anymore b/c it destroys my nails. I was not satisfied with my design and gave them three opportunities to make good. Otherwise, the artists appear very talented.I sent an email and the owner replied very quickly and offered for me to come back, but I was getting my nails done for a trip that was leaving the next morning at 8am. The owner said VP is not meant for me.I spent $40+ (nails, tax, tip) for a regular polish with stick on foils. The foils ended up peeling
The best place to get your nails done 💅 book a month in advance, email with changes or to make sure the design you’re looking for is under the right category. Staff is super chill and responsive. ALWAYS get the hard gel - it makes your design last 3 weeks. Best nail salon in the city without a doubt
Weekly Gel Special is probably the best deal in NYC. The ladies are true artists. The atmosphere is really chill and I always have the best time and walk out with the most beautiful nails that usually last for three weeks (could last longer but my nails get too long). I cant recommend this place enough. Also, easy online booking.
Terrible, terrible customer service. I booked an appointment a week ahead of time and they cancelled my appointment 26 hours before the appt. This was my first time coming to Vanity and I told them how I was doing a special birthday nails but Vivian couldn’t care less. She couldn’t try to squeeze me in anywhere for the next 3 days and was unapologetic about it throughout the whole conversation. Not only that, I would’ve been charged full price if I cancelled 2 hours later, but it’s totally cool for them to cancel on my end - makes no sense. If I was trying to gain a new client I would’ve made it happen. Won’t be going there or recommending them and I’ll just stick to my other nail art salons, but who are close by and have MUCH better customer service!
Super talented artists hand paint on your nails. You can get creative or book the weekly special. Can be pricey but it is art. :)
Got my nails done there for the first time. Feel like I’ve been taking advance of.When I sat down with my nail technician (marina) I told her that I’m a new costumer - she looked me up I her phone and saw that I booked $60 simple gel nail art. I asked her what my options for that price are? She said I can just go on their Instagram and pick what I like which I did. I customized the art a bit and added a close. Marina did pretty good job on my nails. But I feel like she didn’t listen 100 percent. I had to repeat 3 times that I want a hard gel on top to make sure my nails last. When I went to pay my bill was $99!!!!!! The front desk girl kinda just left to let me pay. And when I did she came back to explain that they have different styles and depending on the style you get up-charge. Apparently the design I chose was more expensive. Plus different color was more expensive.... I totally understand it! But non of it was communicated to me when I pick the design. Even tho my nails look pretty good and probably worth it I would like to know in advance what I’m getting myself into. No communication at all from the technician side. No clear understanding of the prices.
Theyre horrible. Im literally filing my own nails 2 hours later. AND they overcharge you. Avoid!
I have been a loyal customer of this establishment for the past year and I have been coming here every 3 weeks to upkeep my nails. Once a finish my appointment I schedule a follow up three weeks after to make sure my nails don’t break, and did so this last time except they canceled my appointment because of a policy change (which in my opinion is completely unprofessional) they could have informed me about policy change at my next appointment and let me know for future appointments this is how it will work! We are all busy and we try to make that little time for ourselves each week and I am very specific about scheduling and my availability. If you want me to value your time then value mine! They sent me an email stating they had canceled my appointment. This is unacceptable . I made my appointment prior to their policy change so is it to much to ask for to have kept that appointment and then inform me about future policy thereafterI spoke to the manager on the phone and explained to her that I have been a loyal customer for over a year now and if there could be anything done on their side due to lack of effort on their end to treat their loyal customers with the respect we deserve for supporting them all this time. I am going on a trip next week and could not find an appointment before this trip available online. By the time I return from this trip my nails will be destroyed. Which is why I specifically made a follow up appointment the week prior. I asked the manager if they could move someone around or at least give me a Free one color gel when I return to show their good faith, and her response was to blame me for not checking my emailIf this is how a business treats their customers that’s been supporting them for over a year then I don’t think they should have any supporters at all. I have referred tons of friends to them and I haven’t gotten anything in return. Not even a thank you. Is it to much to ask for to be treated with respect as a loyal customer or do you just not give a damn about your customers?Very very very disappointed in this kind of treatment!!!!!!!
Got the 50$ special, it was great and natsumi did a great job!
The nail polish artists are amazing, but somehow they pressure you to accept the over sell, otherwise it wont last as long Im expecting best nail polish, nails tend to grow fast, I dont need them to last longer than suppose to... although the job is great on the artist side, I recommend for special events, definitely dont recommend for an every other week regular gel manicure or pedicure
I have been coming to this salon since they opened and I will never come back. Quality has gone downhill. Past 5 times ive gotten a gel mani here they have cracked and peeled within a week, in which i had to come back and get them fixed just for them to crack and peel off again. And for them to charge $5 for the regular gel that keeps a manicure intact is low. That gel is standard. Take your money elsewhere. 👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽
The nails are very beautiful and the artists are very talented. However front desk staff can be rude and unhelpful.Additionally I’ve had trouble with them changing the agreed price after service so be ware.
I usually have a good experience here but for the last 3 months they’ve really been dropping the ball and I finally had it today.Issue number 1: Something is always happening with their nail techs so they always need to reschedule.2. It seems they switched the hard gel to something cheaper because my gel used to last me a month and the last 2 times I’ve done my nails they fall off the next day or a week after.3.The receptionists have no idea how to deal with unhappy customers.I scheduled an appointment at 1230 today because I had another appointment at 3pm. Vanity projects calls me midweek telling me they need to switch my appointment time to a later time AND switch my nail tech. Fine. I have enough time to get to my next appointment so it’s not a big deal. But when my nail tech was done I realized I had made a big mistake in being so easy going. The design did not resemble the picture I was shown in the slightest, but the issue was that SINCE THEY SWITCHED MY ORIGINAL TIME I COULDNT STAY AND FIX MY NAILS BECAUSE I HAD TO GET TO MY NEXT APPOINTMENT.I told the receptionist that I was extremely unhappy with my nails and I showed her the picture I was shown and the finished product and she had the audacity to say it was cause the two colors I used are similar. I told her that I didn’t know what the issue was but the nails looked nothing like the photo. She proceeded to say “your total is 52 dollars”. That’s it. Didn’t offer any solution. I would not recommend going here and sorry Yuri you need more practice. Quite honestly, I’m disgusted. I would think they would treat their customers that frequent this location with just a LITTLE more respect, but nope that didn’t happen. They just want your cash and will dead ignore you if you express anything other than complete elation for their work. Anyways enough talking here’s a pic - you be the judge ! Let me know if you think vanity projects nailed it.UPDATE: 06/25/2018After I expressed my unhappiness at the shop and on instagram - a friend of mine who saw my Instagram post provided me with the owners email. I emailed her about the issue and I’ve added a screenshot of her response. Let’s just say providing quality customer service is not her forte and it also seems like she doesn’t know google reviews can be edited once an issue is rectified. Cheers.
The creativity of the nail techs spans from elegantly simple to wildly imaginative. The main reason I didnt give it 5 stars is b/c as a first timer, I wouldve liked an explanation of what to expect in general or given color pallettes to choose while waiting and my nail tech wasnt the warmest. However, I was offered a beverage, a few times in fact.I wouldve liked for my nail tech to have introduced herself and suggested a place to put my bag as I was visibly struggling to get it to stay on my chair. I finally asked the front desk if I could leave it on the couch across from me.While I do think my tech over buffed my nail a bit during the gel removal process (it was the first time having it done electronically as opposed to manually), I would return and request a different tech/artist.VP does amazing work! Check out their Instagram!
I had been a loyal customer for 5 years and then they did me dirty. I had made an appointment on a Friday and forgot what time it was so I called to check. The receptionist told me 3pm. Jump forward two weeks on the day of my appointment: I check my bank account around 1:30pm and find they’ve already charged me the full amount for the service I was getting. I called and asked why, and they told me I missed my appointment. They said it was at 12pm, not 3pm. I explained to them that I was told by the receptionist it was 3pm and this was not my error and I want a refund. They said they could not refund me because they don’t have the ability to do so, and that I should email the owner. They gave me an email address, which I emailed and explained the situation. This was on August 3rd. I STILL have not heard back. I called my bank on August 8th and explained what occurred. They said they will reach out to the merchant (Vanity Projects) and if I don’t have a refund in 15 days, I have to call my bank back. I still have not received a refund and will most likely have to call my bank back. DO NOT TRUST THIS PLACE. Akiko Nails, which is in the same neighborhood, is FAR better. Their pricing is better, the technicians are much nicer, and they know how to fix their mistakes UNLIKE Vanity Projects.EDIT: Akiko Nails is now closed. Go to Valley Nails or Hello Beautiful Salon. Also, I had to call my bank again. The owner never got back to me.
Best technicians and they have gel strengthener
Maybe good for complex nail art designs and all but terrible for simple regular manicure.
Love all the artists here. Super talented
Excellent, reliable artists all around but my favorite is Marina
Amazing quality work done by Yayo! I was soooo happy with my work - my bling manicure and my tortoise shell w neon pink pedi. Would recommend a million times. Vanity projects is THE place to get ur nails did in Miami and in NYC!
I got a basic mani. It felt like it was a little over glorified. The tech didn’t clean up hang nails which I think is a pretty standard service anywhere. So it was ok but I wouldn’t go back.
Awful experience. Charged for a service I did not reserve for nor did I receive. HUGE waste of money. Do not recommend.
Best nail salon in NYC, period.
For high fashion nails this is it.
There booking policies are confusing and horrible customer service. Major scam. They won’t be in business for long. Don’t bother sabe your money.
Spot on! Cant wait for more works of art!
