The condo we stayed in was updated, spacious, and had great air conditioning. Not all the units have been up if you want those comforts make sure you read the details. The locations is perfect for the south island. 2 minutes from a grocery store, minutes away from restaurants and retail shops, and right on a private beach with a heated pool. The beach is perfect for snorkeling and body boarding. My wife and I would swim out to right cove and see 4-10 sea turtles each time with a plethora of other sea creatures. The kids enjoyed catching the little waves and riding them into shore. The complex faces west so you can see the next island in the distance with beautiful sunsets each night. There are also a variety of tropical trees on the property different fruits. The birds are really friendly too. They will fly down and hang out with you.

The condominium has a very nice and clean private beach. Unlike other crowded beaches, there are only several people on it and you can always find beach chairs available for sunbath. There are 6 buildings in this complex and they are not far away. If you have a group of families spreaded out in different buildings, it is very easy to get together. Highly recommended.

I have stayed at Kahana Sunset twice now. I love that its not in a huge resort area like Kaanapali, but its close to everything in West Maui. Its quiet, beautiful, and as lovely as ever. The beach has gotten smaller in recent years, but still more than enough to play on. Snorkeling is good and the ocean is full of honu right around the condos.

I have not enjoyed my stay here. The provided beds, couches and chairs are the most uncomfortable ever. I cant sleep in the bed, my back side aches if I sit on the couch. The lawn-chair-police will not let you have more than your allotted chairs. Each unit says 6 people but you get 4 chairs. We actually got scolded by an employee for moving a chair from the common area (they have dozens chained up under the building). We called management who told us no more chairs (hospitality focused places never tell you no, but find a solution). Instead, if your group so wants to sit together you must go sit together in the common area, which in a pandemic seems like a poor practice. Our unit wasnt the cleanest. Mold in the showers, dust on lights, etc. You can tell these units never get deep cleaned.I used a wipe on the couch and it came back black. I doubt the cushion covers are washed between guests, even during the pandemic. The unit we booked is out of commission because the entire building is not fit for occupancy due to damage to the sea wall. We got moved to another unit. They have a private beach, but the water was too rough the entire time we were here to swim or snorkel. The good: The view is great. We sat on the patio and watched whales playing and often if we stand at the wall, we can watch turtles come and go. Frequently the turtles come sleep on the beach here. There are BBQ s in the common area. Nobody told us about the sign up list, and one guest got angry that we werent signed up. There was no communication about this. Otter guest were great about just taking turns.I slept on a lounge chair on the deck every night. It was incredible. Two nights had storms and I watched them pass by and lightning hit the island across from us.Overall all, this isnt a place I would stay again. I really like to be comfortable and this place just didnt allow that.Additionally we have cockroaches in the condo. What a surprise!

This location is owned by a central company but MANY sub-lease rentals. I recommend you contact the central company rather than a sub-letter. The sub owned rooms arent renovated and require two handshakes to receive assistance. The location itself is convenient. Near grocery stores and *right on* the ocean. Forewarned these are exactly on the ocean. The townhouse will rumble and vibrate with the waves. Water will shoot 20ft in the air onto your deck. Its elemental, raw, and invigorating. But not necessarily safe.

A wonderful place to stay - my wife and I had a great time. The buildings themselves are a bit dated, although the architecture was pretty cool (lots of light in the inner rooms through clerestory windows). Our unit had been remodeled with very nice cabinetry and appliances, and the lanais on both the main level and off of the master bedroom were a very nice place to sit and relax. All in all, a very nice place to go and a great place to stay while on Maui. Mahalo!

Nicely landscaped grounds surround this peaceful condo complex. The crescent beach and grounds are very private, with gated access. We stayed in unit A9 for a week in November. The check in process was easy, and all the staff we came across were polite and friendly. You will see multiple sea turtles here!! Huge turtles...it was awesome! Our unit had AC after we paid $25 a day for it, but I think that’s pretty standard on the island. We were about ten steps from a cliff(with rails) overlooking the water. We basically fished off our back porch. There is a private beach but we only got about ten to twenty feet of it cause the water was up so high. All in all, the place was great! Great neighborhood as well! My only complaint were the mattresses in unit A9. That was the worst mattress I’ve ever slept on. It had huge bumps in it and you could feel the springs. It wasn’t enough to lower my rating, but I considered it! Lol. Thanks Kahana Sunset, we had a great time!!!

The location of Kahana Sunset is good and the area is quiet. There isnt much of a beach if you are looking to swim/lounge on the beach. There is a nice pool area and the pool is heated. The unit we stayed in had an updated kitchen but, that is about where the positives end. The unit was extremely dusty and the shower had substantial grime in it. The bedroom for most part seemed to be clean but, the pillows only had one pillow cover on them, so the pillows themselves were pretty beat up and dirty. All of these items could be overlooked for a decent place to stay but, there is a serious bug problem here. We killed about 5-10 cockroaches the first two days in the unit. That was all my wife could take and we ended up going to a hotel for the remaining days. The place has potential to be a fine spot for couples like my wife and I they just need to get the cockroach problem solved and clean each unit more thoroughly.

I would rate the grounds and beach as 5+. The grounds crew takes pride in their work and it is always impeccable! The beach is beautiful! The condo unit rating depends on which unit you are assigned. We traveled with two other families and the units were extremely different. We booked all 3 units on the same day, over 7 months in advance. We all paid the same fee, but not receive equal units. We specifically asked for updated units in building B. All families had stayed at the Kahana at least 4 times prior.Pricing is based on the Building, not by the features. What type of unit you are assigned is a shot in the dark. Unit B5 was gorgeous and should be rated Gold standard! Unit B4 was a bit outdated and the kitchen sparsely furnished. The best feature was an additional bathroom on the main floor which would raise the rating to Silver. Unit B6 was in serious need of a simple paint job (dirty and dingy), old furniture and sparsely furnished kitchen. It would be pushing a Bronze rating. We spoke to properly management twice while we were there and were told we will tell the owner to update. I sent two letters when we returned and did not receive an acknowledgement.Ask for photos prior to booking.

There were sea turtles on the beach every day and in the private bay!! This was super cool!! There were 5 on a normal basis. The pool was wonderful! It was the perfect temperature and the sea glass bottom was great for getting in and out. The location of the condo was perfect for us,also. We were able to get to Kaanapali Beach in about 7 min. and Lahaina in around 15. We liked the fact we werent on the strip of things. Our 4th stay at Kahana Sunset was in June. We love it for its relative quiet atmosphere, nice beach, roomy 2 bed layouts, and mostly private beach with so many turtles and fish ea day.No, it’s not new, nor is it a full service resort like so many seem to complain about in reviews but the price is $100-$150 less a night so decide what you want but keep your expectations realistic. The sun sets directly into your deck for all but B&C buildings so see if your unit has full awning, all but 1-2 per building do. I’ve never stayed any mo other than June and we’ve always coped w/o AC but I’d look for the fewer units with it in hotter months or lower 1bed units.Units don’t come fully stocked with condiments and basics like flour, sugar, etc so plan accordingly. Easier with big families to cook affordably, otherwise plan smartly.Overall the location, setting, and layout suit is to an”T” and we will return.Brian in Eagle, ID

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We stayed at A8, which was oceanfront. I do have a few items that need to be addressed though. The powered awning did not work without me troubleshooting why the awning would not deploy. I ended up determining that the breaker on the GFCI was tripped, after I found where the power was supplied from, I fixed the problem quickly. The maintenance staff was very busy with AC and other calls, so instead of waiting for them and taking them away from more pressing issues, I simply did it on my own. I have a feeling that the powered awning hadnt worked for some time before I reset the breaker. Our WiFi and TV upstairs both had to be replugged in, as neither worked upon our arrival. Even after plugging the main BR tv back in, it would turn on, but no volume would work, and you couldnt change the channel. I attempted to use different tv remotes from around the condo, and this particular tv just wouldnt respond. There were no buttons except for a power button on the TV, which was the only way it turned on. I suspect the last people that rented the condo wanted to be unplugged, which I appreciate, to an extent. I however had to check in with work visa WiFi and work remotely using WiFi, so I needed to fix that. The wifi router simply needed to be plugged in, and it worked well after that. The main level screen door was stubborn and probably needed new rollers. Also, for over $400 a night, the AC should be included. AC is a $25 per day add on. The bedrooms, especially the non oceanfront back BR really retains the heat. Luckily, there were several fans available. The herb garden and citrus were amazing, and very appreciated. The turtles right below our condo every day were also awesome. Plan on grilling at one of the many grills on the property. The semi private beach is also very nice. You can actually get in some good snorkeling right from your beach.
