I’m a student at western. When I saw the photos and the price attached to them I thought it was pretty decent. Then we moved in… the apartment had mold on the ceilings. The front door was almost kicked in. My bedroom door doesn’t close at all. My closet doesn’t have the doors on them. To me it seemed like they didn’t take any time in preparing the apartment for our arrival. They did come fix the door and paint over the mold in the living room and kitchen, but the other issue have since been touched. I go to the office every week asking for these things to be fixed. It seems like maintenance just isn’t aware. Don’t try to call them cause they more then likely won’t answer. Before moving in we always had to take the 40 min drive to talk to them about issue that shouldn’t have been there in the first place. They just painted the apartments so there not ugly anymore but the inside is a whole different ballgame. I hope you chose wisely.
I am a western student. This was my first apartment and I have to say my experience here was not the best. The room it self was not up to par and very limited to space. Lots of prior damage in my unit. Maintenance could be less indolent. There was always a delay for repairs. The staff could be more productive, should attain more professional skills and learn how to communicate thoroughly with tenants. There are also unnecessary fees and charges. I was very uncomfortable after witnessing staff or others employed there entering our apartment nonchalantly with no awareness. If you are potentially going to stay here, please be cautious of these things. Everything else has narrowly satisfied my needs. For the price, you can do better. And please remember that these student living apartments prey on students and will try to get over on you. Read your lease agreements with clarity and always have a lawyer on your side.
This is what my bathroom looked like when I moved in mold all on the ceilings. My room was also not cleaned well before I moved in and they deny work orders for no reasonUpdate: they came in and didn’t even get rid of all the mold. They did some of it, and I’m getting sick living here. Please do not live here, I can no longer live here due to my bathroom not being habitable. Attached the last few photos is the mold that is still there after they claimed they cleaned it.It is growing behind the cabinet & coming through it. All they have said is “sorry about that” which doesn’t help at all. The bugs are also a nice touch
SO UNSAFE! Cars get stolen from here all the time. People dressed in black walking around at night. The staff is also unhelpful nor friendly. This place has gone downhill. So happy it is my last year renting here. WOULD NOT recommend. Paddocks are much better!!!
I lived in 58 West for 2 years and I have absolutely loved staying here! All the issues that came along were resolved and adequate help needed. Staff is polite and there are lots of activities for residents! Going to miss those!
A solid 5 stars I’ve had issues but Connie has stepped up and taken care of everything for me. You are going to have things you don’t like while living in student housing but I simply can’t blame the apartment complex or the management. If I could request one thing it would be that the complex become STUDENTS only. It would I’m my opinion my the living a lot safer
I just signed a lease to move into this apartment and you’d have a better chance at winning the lottery than getting ahold of this company. I’ve called over 12 times, left voicemails, and sent emails, but no response. They keep sending me automated emails about not having a co-signer when I obviously do because they uploaded the paperwork for it themselves. I’m happy to change my review when they contact me back.
I’ve lived here for a full year and although the rooms are a little small the people r great. The facilities r very well kept and the staff are very welcoming. Every time I put in a maintenance request it’s fulfilled either the of or the day after.
These apartments are a pretty good deal compared to other apartments nearby. They’ve been fairly quick to get to maintenance requests as well. Only downsides I’ve noticed were that the apartments weren’t super clean upon move in, and people doing donuts in the parking lot in the middle of the night.
If safety is a concern, I would avoid this place. Recently an attempted break-in took place at my apartment. Thankfully, they fled when they realized I was home, but management has not responded to me regarding this incident despite attempts to reach them by phone, email, and even in person. It has been over a week, and my window screen has still not been repaired. The front office people are very nice, but limited in what they can do. Security does not seem to be a big concern to management, which is very disappointing.EDIT: Management did eventually get back to me
So far so good ! I just signed my lease to move here and they were more than helpful keeping me updated on things, I’ll post my update on my stay at the end of my lease.
I have lived here since 2018 and it’s a very nice place to live. It is very affordable and the maintenance is quick to resolve all issues that have came up during my time here. I would recommend living here for students on a budget.
Don’t move here they lied to me before signing my lease . Now wanting to move me to a 2 bedroom after paying for a 1 bedroom because I have 2 children, and want me to pay $1450 a MONTH!!!! I’m so over this place haven’t even moved in yet & I’ve had nothing but a bad experience with everyone . And been told different things each time I got on the phone
A warning to any and all who are looking into moving to 58 West. The phrase “you get what you pay for” cannot be stressed enough for this apartment complex!. Sure, it’s affordable rent and conveniently located 5 minutes from the campus of WMU, but the management is not as good as one would want it to be, and the maintenance crew won’t take you seriously, which is why I am giving such a poor review. The first instance of this that we noticed was when our apartment was not clean at all when we moved in despite the management telling everyone that they cleaned them between move out and move in. Another example that upset my roommates and I was when our microwave didn’t work in October of 2020 and it took the maintenance crew four days to come put in a new one, but the big one for us was when our hot water went out during late January of 2021 (the middle of winter, mind you), and it took the office five days to send a maintenance person to fix it, only to have the hot water turn back off again less than two days later. The management strikes me as a bunch of salesmen, where they treat you like royalty when you are touring and signing the lease, but as soon as you get moved in, they ignore you and don’t care about your concerns or questions. It is also worth mentioning that one of my roommates had his car broken into in the parking lot, despite the management telling us that there is a security team that goes around at night. Please understand that this apartment complex is not all sunshine and rainbows like it seems.
Ive lived here for the past year and here is my legitimate opinion. The amenities, fantastic. The apartments, not too bad considering how low the rent is. The internet is superb. The only bad thing Ive personally experienced is management can be a bit extreme with things. My roommates and I left a couple bags of garbage on our deck for a few hours and then the next day we received an email that basically said if we do it again, our agreement would be void and wed be kicked out. Overall, my experience here has been 95% pleasant and I would recommend living here.
For my first apartment, I like it. The front desk has always been helpful towards me and my mom! Super close to Western as well
I have lived here since February 20th when we had a different manager and now the current manager goes against her own rules with pairing roommates. She is accusing me of doing things that my previous roommate who she shouldnt have paired me with anyway did and all the paperwork she has been giving out is not legal and not following Ada compliance rules to make sure I can get in and out of my apartment safely. They are doing a lot of things against the law so if you move in make sure you take notes and pictures of everything that happens.
I took a tour and am going to be living there soon. I have had multiple friends live there and they have said all good things. Even through Covid they have kept everything so clean (sanitize everything) and on top of that still do fun activities that kept people safe with Covid and make living there more fun. Very on top of things and keep their residents/soon to be residents safe with their security that’s on site and more!
I took over someones lease from February to August and Ive had only good experiences while living here. They staff is all so friendly, the amenities are great, everything has been very clean and professional as far as covid goes. If I didnt already have plans for the fall, Id for sure live here again!
Great outdoor space with pool, hotub and more! Fun giveaways weekly. Friendly community and nice updated apts! Great price as well!
I’ve lived at 58 west for close to a year now ans it’s great! If you’re just looking for somewhere to stay that’s affordable with good perks fo living there this is the place!
1 star is far too nice. Tons of speeding, huge potholes, and slurs spray painted in the parking lots. Management and staff ignore a lot of the residents needs. It also isn’t “student” housing. Many people who live at 58 West are not students and haven’t been FOR YEARS. If you are thinking about living here, I would first consider anywhere else.
It’s a good place to live, great staff who are always willing to help. Not to far from campus. Recommend it to everyone
Been living here for the past 2 years. Had no issues. Best place for the students!
They have a lot of amenities to offer the residence and the front office is very helpful. The rooms are all a good size too.
I have been living here for almost a year and my experience has been very good. The management quickly solves any problems with the apartments and the shared areas are incredible, especially in the summer.
The people who work here are super cool and extremely effective. I enjoy living here 😁
I really like living here. Its a great place to live especially with the low cost.
I have been here since just before covid. The apartment complex has taken a lot of precautions for covid. I would recommend this complex if your on a budget.
I want to recognize Steven Bloxsom for his professionalism and noteworthy customer service. He absolutely made my day, taking time to offer assistance despite my request being well outside his scope of duty.Steven, thank you for your help today. You brought a mother living 1000+ miles away from her son comfort knowing we can rely on wonderful, highly vested people like you at the community leasing office to help meet the needs of their residents. Simply awesome!!
I am here for a year and a half! I would recommend 58 West to any one looking for a value for money space in Kalamazoo.I have had no trouble at all and the maintenance services are prompt and the whole process is easy for the ones living here. The amenities are great! The best deal in Kalamazoo for a completely furnished apartment!
My ceiling has been leaking water for over a week. Put in a work order on Aug 13. When asking maintenance about when it can be fixed he said. “ we’re busy we’ll get to it when we get to it, sorry.” Just a couple weeks ago maintenance turned off my water without notice as well. Don’t move here.
My consulting Firm worked with this company and directly with their cleaning and site technicians doing Project Management in correlation with getting their housing ready for the hundreds of students who move in on August. This project was extremely busy and Absolutely massive!! I worked very closely with the staff members in the office and their Site Property manager Audra. In the Consulting role after truly working with Thousands of Businesses across our Nation over the last 5 years...I have learned that It is rare to find all the staff and managers ALL on board with Ensuring a great Customer experience for the students and families who are moving in! The all hands on deck regardless of your position and the willingness for their staff, maintenance, and vendors stood out!The professionalism, accuracy, teamwork, and interactions I witnessed with how they treat their staff and tenants over a 3 week span was Priceless and speaks volumes with the kind of company this is! This company Worked in correlation to ensure the “Integrity “ of the project and delivered a Beautiful Customer Experience for all the parents and Students!Mitchell & Gains Consulting Group endorses this message!
The maintenance team is awesome, super nice and helpful(: Also the office staff is super accommodating and sweet! Love this place
I was thinking of moving here but my friend that currently lives here can never get any repairs done.
I have lived here for 7.5 months now and everyone in the office is very friendly. They are very considerate of your situation. I have loved living here and would recommend them to anyone looking for cheaper housing.
Amenities are clean but the gym is quite small.
Great prices for the quality of apartments.
1 star is far too nice
One star is far too kind. They completely didn’t even take my money order and apply it to my rent. I literally had to find the receipt and argue with the management before they finally applied my money to my account. I accidentally overpaid my rent and was told the only way to receive a refund was to leave a forwarding address when I moved out. Instead of giving me my refund they charged me for a total that was a little less than my refund and still didn’t return the rest of the refund. Instead they came up with a brand new bill that’s completely different than the one they mailed to my new address. The key don’t let you into the apartment half of the time and then they charge you to get back in even if you have a key! I didn’t have clean water in my apartment for over a week before they finally decided to replace the water pump.
Someone broke into my car
58 west was my first apartment. Coming from a different area as a young student is so stressful but 58 west was the perfect place to call my first home. The apartments come fully furnished so you don’t have to buy anything really which is such a convenience when you’re moving from the dorms or straight from a house. There is a bus stop right there so if you don’t have a car you can still get places and go downtown to take the train. The friendly faces at the leasing office help make transitioning homes so much less intimidating. it’s cheap and manageable for a student to pay for and qualify for on their own. You only pay for electric and gas outside of rent. It’s a great place to save money at and call home. Managers are great and easy to reach via email, they always want to help and are willing to help as long as you respect the policies of the complex. I really did love living at 58 west. Great community and so much more !
5 - stars for Maintenance After speaking with management about concerns in our daughters apartment, the maintenance staff went in and addressed it issues promptly. My daughter stated that the maintenance staff was courteous and professional.
Overall it is decent for the price. With it being one of the few apartments that is furnished it makes it much easier to move into. On the down side the internet went out periodically when I was there. Also when you move out expect a $100-$200 “cleaning fee” to squeeze a few extra dollars out of you.
Best place ! My child is extremely happy to have stayed in this place. The people who work there are positive and make you feel extremely welcome. The idea of sharing space is a good idea, to teach them the importance of self reliance, but having other around, so not to feel alone. Perfect place for the college students. The apartment is nice and is furnished in the common area. They replace all furniture every year. My children absolutely loved the pool area in the warm weather. And there is a bus stop, so having a car isnt necessary. Safe and wonderful place.
Had to delete my review due to 58 west trying to trick me into a lease I did not sign for and having me scramble to find a roommate that was declined after multiple offers with multiple qualified subleasers for a lease I did not even agree upon. Tried to charge me 200 which will not be paid for and will gladly take a ding on my credit to not pay you another dime. I lived here for 2 years and it was absolute hell, do not do it please go anywhere but here. I could say many many things about this place but the negative reviews speak for itself and most of the positives are just visitors or their workers
I definitely wouldnt recommend this place at all. Never stepped foot on the property nor have ever had a key. Never even put in a application some how they manage to let someone electronically sign a lease with them to move into there property which o never knew about into it popped up on my credit that I owe them 400 dollars when I tried to dispute it and called about it they told me I didnt have much info to prove that it wasnt me.who electronically sign the documents. I asked them.how was that possible without them.showing any identification and she told me everything done electronically now I stuck with paying 400 dollars to somewhere I never thought about living.
Good place for living
As a parent, you want to have faith in a student housing community and believe that your child will be in good hands. That is not the case here at 58 West. My child applied for an apartment 3 bedroom 3 bathrooms and upon hitting enter on the application, received a telephone call from someone in the office. She told them what she was interested in and things seemed to run smoothly; however, a month an a half later, no communication from them until my child contacted them. She was informed that she has been dropped down to a 4 bedroom 2 bath and when she informed them that this is not what she signed up for, they gave her the run a round. She was then told that information for her financial backer was not received. She eventually went to the office, all 53 120 pounds of her and was greeted with laughs and sarcasm regarding her rental agreement. When she explained to them that they had not honored their end of the contract, the conversation went from peaceful to them wanting to call the police on her because she showed them their own contract and gave them appropriate arguments as to why this switch was not in fact a part of the rental agreement. They told her that even though they can not locate her information regarding her financial backer or any evidence that her application was completed, she is responsible for payments and took out a payment the beginning of August for an apartment she never was assigned. Its a shame that companies like these take advantage of college students looking for housing off campus. I will be contacting Western Michigan University regarding this matter. They may not be able to help, but maybe no other student will be duped this way. When trying to reach out to them via social media, they have only blocked my request.
I and 3 others were looking to get an apartment for the first time and after looking at many options and visiting several of those options! I can say with complete honesty and no exaggeration that 58 west was by far the.....Most Welcoming: Super just genuinely friendly the minute we walked inMost Informative: Every question we asked they answered very forthcoming about the good and the badMost Affordable: Helped us calculate out an average annual cost and explained every fee included in rent and why it was there!!!

DONT DO IT! you pay all this money for a bunch of bs. others including myself have found mold in our apartments, they don’t take the time to consider the people they move into your apartment. terrible about keeping up with maintenance & there’s a few very rude & unprofessional office workers. if you find it fun to live in a stressful environment, then 58 west is the right place for you.
Great amenities!
All of the 58 west staff are so helpful! I love my apartment! It is my home away from home! Lily, Kelsey, Don, & Stephen have helped me on multiple occasions
Management is great! The people in the office are great and will work with you if you need help with anything and everything! Definitely recommend living here!
Living at 58 West made everything easier. The management (AUDRA!) was fantastic. I had a couple of issues and she was there to help and take care of them. I lived at other places and it just didnt compare. Look past all the other reviews, totally worth it!
Wonderful & Safe Community. Recommended!!!. My son lived here for a year and moved out in August 2018. The apartments are very nice and student friendly. He had a fabulous experience and the staff rocks!!! Very affordable for Kalamazoo student living. Give it a try, you wont be disappointed!!
The team at 58 west was amazing the property manager Audra was thorough and quick response time I felt like she genuinely understood my needs and the other staff was inviting as well. Overall my experience was a memorable one so for that they recieve the highest rating for student housing.
Of all the places in Kalamazoo Ive lived, 58 west has by far been the most interactive, kind staff of all. If you simple go to the office or place a work order their lovely staff will greet you warmly and resolve your problem. The rooms are nice and dont even compare to living in the dorms when it comes to size(OF YOUR OWN ROOM), amenities, and warm water. Again the staff is very clean and helpful especially Audra and Devon who have personally helped me with multiple housing questions and dilemmas. Highest recommendations for 58 West.
I’ve been to 58 West plenty of times before I moved in and I loved the place. Ever since I moved in my roommate and I got harassed by the maintenance or the staff. Maintenance would walk in just whenever they want, and in their lease they can walk in if they have a reason. Only one of the times they walked in they had a real reason, the rest of the times they never had a reason which they cannot do that. The keys to their apartment doors become deactivated a lot and if your locked out of your apartment after hours and you call to have someone let you into your apartment they’re usually an hour or two hours later than what the people on phone say. 58 west is the cheapest place to live at in the Kalamazoo area but the worst place to live. I’m only giving two stars because when I moved in everything was very clean.
Please, for the love of all that is holy, stay away from this place. It is a complete and utter rip off. I lived there for the 2017/2018 academic year and I have never regretted a move so much in my entire life. The apartment I moved into was a TINY studio, less than 600 sq. ft. And yet I was expected to pay $580 a month for that dump. When I moved in the kitchen cabinets were broken, the floor was scuffed, there was a rust stain on the carpet from a chair that probably hadn’t moved in years and the shower still had the previous tenant’s hair plastered to the wall, almost as if the cleaning fee they likely charged the previous tenant had gone to something other than cleaning! The security is completely useless and during my time there someone was robbed at gunpoint and 58 West didn’t even make residents aware until someone posted on social media and they felt obligated at that point. They refuse to maintain their parking lots during the winter and my vehicle was seriously damaged because they refused to salt the winding downhill drive to leave the complex, resulting in my vehicle as well as several others sliding into the center median. I purchased a new vehicle only to have it egged by someone who drove through the complex throwing eggs at various cars. My vehicles were vandalized multiple times and nothing was ever done about it nor were any attempts made to stop incidents in the future. They stepped up security for a couple of weeks shortly after word got out about the armed robbery, but shortly after they dropped the extra security. I never felt as though myself or my possessions were safe while living at 58 West. The office staff is friendly enough but most of them are college students who are ill equipped to do their job and are likely only working there to get a break on their rent. If you plan to sleep after 8 am on a weekday you may want to change your plans as the grounds crew does their landscaping for what seems like an entire day, every day, starting at that time and they’re just outside your window with lawnmowers, weed whackers, leaf blowers, etc. During my stay at 58 West they were also doing quarterly inspections on your unit, which is a practice I have NEVER heard of at any other apartment “community”. They only want your money and feign concern if you have a complaint just so you won’t stop their flow of income from other desperate students who have no other option. Unless your off-campus housing is covered by financial aid I would strongly recommend going anywhere but here. Don’t waste your money. If for some reason you still decide to move in here, don’t expect to get your deposit back. When I moved out I was told I’d get $90 back rather than the full deposit I put down, as they decided they were going to use part of the original deposit to pay some other made up charge they forced onto my account. It’s been approximately 6 months since I moved out and I have not had so much as a letter explaining why I haven’t received even the money I’d originally been promised and instead I was slapped with a collection account on my credit report from them for $200. I have no idea why. I have not been contacted; I have not received even so much as a parcel of mail from 58 West. I haven’t even received a final list of expenses which would explain what happened to the rest of my deposit. Please avoid this place at all costs.
Let’s start this off with if it was absolutely possible put 0 stars I would. This apartment complex robs students, is impossible to work with, and will send any outstanding payments owed to a debt collector WITHOUT warning and then only give you a week to pay it before it hits your credit. I fought tooth and nail to get a one bedroom that I was promised I was on a list for, for months. I also had to pay a $50 fee to the electric company because one of their consultants told me to wait on starting up my electric because it wasn’t working online. Blows my mind how poorly you can treat someone living on your grounds. No wonder literally everybody that lives there one year, leaves and never has anything good to say about them afterwards.
I am a delivery driver for Kazoopys pizza. We deliver to the residents several times a week, and have always had good experiences with them. The grounds are clean and well kept. Office staff orders weekly, and they are always pleasant and courteous. Fun, but professional. 10/10 would rent!
Maintenance is rude
If you are a student looking to move in here....dont. If you are a parent of a student looking to move in here....dont let them! Our daughter lived here during the 2016/2017 school year. Upon move in, the place was a dump. Nearly 1 year old pumpkin remnants left on the patio from previous tenants, patio door that did not latch, security system did not work, interior walls were dirty & damaged, bathroom was filthy, kitchen was filthy, outlet covers were missing in bedrooms, the list goes on. Our daughter went to management repeatedly over issues including a roommates boyfriend 100% living in the apartment (not on the lease), parties of both of age and underage individuals in the apartment, with liquor bottles and messes left EVERYWHERE in the apartment, roommates guests passing out in common areas, illegal drugs. Management completely disregarded all concerns and denied request to move apartments without paying penalties. For a first year nursing student, all of these issues could be enormously detrimental to her future/career. One potential roommate walked in for move in, then promptly walked back out and requested a different apartment because of the filth and issues. Another roommate moved out part way through the lease, allowing a sublet to another individual (now sharing a bathroom with our daughter) that associated as a male. Comments/advances were made of uncomfortable nature. Upon move out at the end of the lease, our daughter was the only tenant who cleaned the apartment at all (others left trash, food, etc behind). Our daughter notified management of this and was assured that it would be taken into consideration. She was then mailed a statement outlining nearly $300 in charges, including cleaning ceiling fan, sink and under kitchen sink. Replacement of drip trays for stove, crisper tray in fridge, a towel bar, steaming of mattress ( a PLASTIC COATED MATTRESS of $175) and more. She immediately contacted management and requested proof/pictures as she was not allowed back in the apartment after x time on move out day. Management told her that they had pictures of everything noted, however, they never provided, even after email requests and multiple phone calls. Now, over 7 months later, we have received an email as guarantors that the charges will be brought to collections within 2 weeks if we do not pay in full promptly. I replied to this email within 1/2 hour of receiving it, again requesting details and pictures to back up these ridiculous charges. Its been a week, Ive again emailed and have yet to receive a reply. I strongly suspect that this is a common occurrence of them leasing sub-par units to students, then billing them for fabricated charges and things that should be included in basic cleaning/care between tenants by the property owners. Most students/guarantors would simply pay the charges rather than chance being brought to collections. Without proof, we will not be giving this sham of a property another penny. They post pretty pictures, fun events, extra bonuses that they offer their tenants around standard lease signing times to lure these kids in, then give them disgusting accommodations once theyve already signed and dont back up/provide any sort of upkeep. Such a shame. Kids trying to set themselves up for a bright future taken advantage of by these predators. Valuable life lesson, I guess....trust no one. Thanks for that, I guess 58 West.
Initially, I was hesitant about signing a lease with 58 West for the 2017/2018 academic year because I was new to the Kalamazoo area and I only was able to visit a few places since I lived on the other side of the state, but I am glad I did sign! The application and signing process went smoothly and I was accommodated for my personal needs upon move in. I lived in a one bedroom/one bathroom apartment and just like any new apartment that you move into, it need a little bit of cleaning - nothing out of the ordinary. Throughout my time at 58 West, the entire staff was always helpful and ready to assist when I needed it and I applaud them for all of their hardwork and dedication to making 58 West a true student living experience with all of the events and socials that they hosted. I was so excited to resign with 58 West for the 2018/2019 school year but due to relocation for work, I had to terminate my lease - which they were so helpful in helping me with understand the process and I was able to find someone to takeover my lease and release me of all obligations. 58 West is definitely an affordable and safe living community in Kalamazoo and I definitely recommend it for undergraduate or graduate students, like myself.
The biggest complaint that I have is that there are no sidewalks right outside of the 58 west complex, around the area for a bit, so its dangerous for the first 10 minutes of a walk. After that its fine. That being said, the location is great, its a great looking place to live, the gym is 24 hours, they have resident events, nice apartments, very attentive maintenance crew... I love living here. While I just wish they were located in a slightly better area, they created a community that is very nice and safe.
Safe community. Great prices for the quality of apartments. No issues with parking. Staff is typically friendly. Internet is good. An all around good place to live during college. It is on the quieter side though.
58 West one of the best places to stay in Kzoo, great people and property management to help you love your apartment. You would like it .
Earlier this year I was about to sign at the paddock when we had a bad experience at their main office. We ended up swinging over to 58 West because it was right nextdoor to take a look. As soon as we walked in, everyone is the office was so friendly. Kelsie was our housing consultant that day and I can tell you that she was on of the best I have ever experienced. She answered all of my questions and gave me a perfect tour! We were sold almost immediately and signed that day. We were so excited to have our first place and they were just as excited for us! We got free swag and pictures! I loved 58 West so much that I actually ended up getting a job there and now I’m so happy! I actually enjoy getting up and going to work with all of my wonderful coworkers. Best place I’ve ever worked already by far. All of the staff are so passionate about their tenants and truly want to make their apartment experience one to remember. I definitely recommend 58 West for all of your housing needs!
58 West is amazing!!!! Ive already convinced six friends to live here, and you should, too. The staff members are extremely friendly, and they make a conscious effort to get to know you on a personal level. They were also immensely helpful when I had a roommate conflict, and we no longer wished to live together. They helped us fix this immediately. The complex is very clean, and there are plenty of amazing opportunities to get involved with your neighbors and also score some free stuff like grocery bingo, waffle Wednesday, and many other crafting events held by 58 West. 58 West is definitely a kind a giving apartment complex, and you will not regret choosing 58 West. ☺️❤️
58 west has been my home for almost 2 years now and I am so thankful I picked this place to call my home. The staff is incredible and has always made me feel like family. They go above and beyond their job descriptions to ensure that I feel comfortable and safe. I wouldn’t want to live any where else. For anyone who is a college student and or living on there own for the first time this is the best place to live. Another benefit of living at the amazing complex is that the city bus comes directly into the complex. If you are considering living here I highly recommend checking it out!! You won’t regret it.I do want to add this: 58 west isn’t perfect. The staff isn’t perfect. They have to meet rent deadlines for a reason because they report back to someone higher than them. I have had a situation where I was going to get charged a legal fee because my rent was so late. I spoke to the staff in the office and they were cooperative and did what they could do to help. It ended up being a miscommunication and they were able to reverse the fees. Not saying this is how it would work every time just in my case that one time that is what happened. No one is perfect no apartment is perfect. Just because you get a bad roommate doesn’t mean that the complex is horrible it means that the roommate is horrible and inconsiderate. Just some food for thought.Taylor
Great for student living, will work with you to solve problems too!
The staff is very nice and patient. I signed in the beginning of February and all my questions were answered. I feel very comfortable and happy about moving in the fall
I’ve had a great time at 58 West. I love the styles of rooms and their layouts. These are fully furnished apartments that catered to my every need when I moved to Kalamazoo. The rent is a fair price. I’ve payed comfortably since I’ve attended WMU. I LOVE the convenience of the 16 Lovell bus that comes to the front of the complex and takes you straight to WMU Main Campus. It also takes you downtown— literally everything I needed. But a home is not a home without the care and maintenance of our leasing office staff: Audra (General Manager), Connie, Kelsey, Kimmy, Lily, Don and others. I appreciate their hard work, their knowledge, and kindness to make my stay easy and enjoyable. I love the events they put on for the residence like festive events, Super Bowl and giving out foods for different occasions at the bus stop, on WMU campus or in-office. Their time and effort is truly appreciated.I love using the computer lab with printing, BYOP (bring your own paper) with a nice long table to study at and the gym! They’ve got some nice equipment. If it’s not enough for you, use your imagination and get the work done! Oh, and they’ve got an awesome half court for basketball, which is pretty cool. Thus far, I’ve enjoyed my stay at 58 West. I love my leasing peeps, they work so hard, are very helpful and are so lovable. There is much to appreciate about 58; they’re great! And if anything goes wrong they handle it nicely and maintenance staff works quite efficiently.Thank you
(Long) If I could give this place less than one star, I most definitely would. Unorganized. I sent a package to this apartment complex for a friend and was told my package was there. Upon my friend picking the package up, she was told that the package wasn’t there (after i was told that the package was, in fact THERE the day before)....I then called the office to be told that it was sent back. I did not receive an email or notification that this happened nor did my friend who tried to pick up the package... Audra (property manager) was very hostile on the phone and would not give me any contact information above her position...stating “she didn’t have too”.... re-reading these other reviews, I would live somewhere else.....
An affordable, modern, and clean college apartment. Small kitchen, small bedrooms, but a very open parking lot. Far from campus but spacious and quiet. Friendly staff. The few times maintenance was required everything was fixed rapidly.
This is my second year living here and its gone pretty well so far. The staff, especially Audra the manager, were super helpful when I had an issue with one of my roommates. One of the only things I dont like is occasionally people get into arguments/fights in the parking lot late at night which is a little scary, but thats not something 58 West can really control. Overall, Ive enjoyed living here!
The receptionists have been very helpful in this process of signing an apartment for next year. Me and my friends are very excited to move in next year. 58 West has been the nicest place weve found with a fair cost. It has a lot to offer us.
I have been living at 58 West for over 3 months now and so far its been a great experience. The apartments are high quality and are worth the rent you pay. I have had some issues with neighbors and the staff has handled the situations very well with a very positive attitude. They have gone above and beyond with keeping contact and updating me on the situations. They have security on site which is nice in case you do have some noisy neighbors. The rent comes with free internet and there are some good incentives for renewing your lease. I have already renewed my lease for next year. I highly recommend living here.
I have moved out from there three months back. Tried to find someone to sublease. Mean while I get charged for. Broken curtain which I reported when first moving in. Then additional charge for not having insurance ...which infact I have... they said they will adjust next month. But they didnt. Finally I got someone to sublease and they asked her not to and gave her some new unit. Infact they tricked us. Now she have to pay and I have to pay too.. brilliant. In the name of the lease I signed I donno how far they exhaust me with stupid reasons.
I have lived here since august and my experience has been pretty good. I think that its a very nice apartment complex for the price youre paying. I havent had any surprise charges on my account at all like I did at the centre. The staff and maintenance are so nice and they resolve your problems as soon as they can instead of pushing it under the rug like some of the prior living experiences Ive had. The only thing that I have had an issue is that its a key card instead of an actual key and the door will lock right behind you. I would definitely live here again.
A had a terrible experience at 58 West. I moved in with a friend and we were placed with 2 others. We had a lot of issues with them not helping answer questions and charged us almost $340 when moving out because the common room wasn’t clean, they send pictures and it was dumb stuff such as we didn’t sweep under the couch and didn’t remove the entire top off the stove to clean it. I will never recommend anyone to live here. They also charged me to replace a couch that was broken when I moved in. Another issue we had was our key cards never worked. There was one night I got home late and didn’t have a car. It was in the middle of winter and it was 16 degrees out, I called to have someone reset it and it took over an hour of me waiting outside for them to call me and tell me to meet them at the office.
58 West is by far the worst apartment housing I’ve ever seen. They’re completely unwilling to work with you, will attempt to charge you for damages in the apartment that were there prior to your move-in, and they refuse to take responsibility for their own faults. When I was living there it took their maintenance 7 TIMES to actually fix our dishwasher. They kept sending different maintenance workers in to do the exact same thing. The 7th guy finally came in and said, “you guys just need a whole new dishwasher”.They neglect the safety of their residents by not salting the sidewalks for weeks at a time, leading to many different people I’ve talked to with serious injuries, one including a concussion that took her out for three months. They rarely have the front security on staff, and if they do it’s on dates like family weekend or events where they know potential future residents will see. They can and will try to charge you for everything. They stated they had photographic evidence that we had trash bags piled up outside our front door but failed to show us any pictures. A week later they dropped the charge because they “realized that they had gotten the units mixed up”. They also attempted to charge us for scratch on an arm chair that were there when we moved in. They insisted we pay $200 to replace it (it’s nowhere near high quality enough to cost $200 yeah right) but we had filled out unit assessment sheets the first day we got there and when three of us produced our copies of the paperwork and demanded that they check their records, they ran with their tail between their legs.I have never seen a colder or less sympathetic housing complex. They will lie to your face about everything they do. There are so many better options around Kalamazoo. Please take my review into consideration so you don’t make the same mistake I did.
I love living here, the location is great. Im able to get to campus quickly along with the store for when I need grocerys. I really appreciate the notes outside our door to let us know what will be coming and not just having random people show up in our apartment to fix something, paint, etc.
I will not being EVER resigning or moving back here. No will I EVER recommend this place. Only good perk is the city bus coming into the apartment complex & the wood floors. I assumed when I got a 1 bedroom apartment it was an actual room. Not a deluxe studio. I have a wall separating my living room instead of a door......so in other words I was given a bigger studio. I have a MAJOR mistake moving out of my old apartment complex. The office is also funny of people who dont know what they need to do.
I moved here in the fall of 2016 and honestly love it here. I have lived in 3 other places in Kalamazoo, but this one really felt like home. It is quite and a peaceful place to live. I would recommend anyone to live here.
I was charged multiple cleaning fees and damage fees that had nothing to do with me, the water is constantly brown, the internet is terrible and is constantly going out, the office staff are nice and helpful, some are not very informative but most are. The management takes days to respond, and don’t think there’s any way you can have a pet here unless your disabled...no Emotional Support animals. My puppy was a certified emotional support dog, I even had written documents straight from my doctor and they still wouldn’t allow him on the property! My refrigerator had a broken shelf piece and they just glued it back on and it fell off again the next day. The facilities are nice such as the pool, indoor basketball court, gym, clubhouse, and computer room. But living here comes with its problems;.... you get what you pay for
I love the complex. They are affordable and everything in your home is well. maintenance comes a little bit slow when you call them but they get the job done. great security and they make you feel apart of the complex.
Nice housing, but terrible management. I’ve never seen so many disorganized, heartless people working at one place. My friend had a special event, requested time off for it and was forced to work because management did a terrible job keeping up with staffing. Disgraceful. If you are homeless or have no other option for living or employment I’d seek out 58 west, they’ll treat you just fantastic.
STAY AWAY. They are horrible people who work here. I moved into a dirty apartment and was told to suck it up. I have had nothing but problems. They found dead birds in our dryer. The staff are rude, not helpful at all, and condescending. The worst staff person is Kelsey Williams. She is rude, aggressive, condescending, and overall nasty. She barks at people until they give up and leave so she doesn’t actually have to fix the issue. They definitely need new management here. All of the furtniture in my apartment is literally broken and unusable. They tell you the lock on the door turns it off so no one can get in, but I woke up from a nap after turning the door off to an employee in my apartment. She then continued to act like it wasn’t on and lied to my face. I was hit on by the man who was helping me register for move in and giving me the keys to my apartment. He added me on Facebook after using the company resources to learn my first and last name. This man has keys to my apartment with open access. This place doesn’t care about its renters at all, they jut want to make a quick dollar. STAY AWAY.**UPDATE** I have now sent 5 emails about meeting with them as they said in their comment. No one has gotten back with me for a time to meet.
We moved our son in last Saturday. The staff was very friendly, however we were extremely disappointed with the condition of the apartment. His bedroom carpet was dirty, there were holes in the walls (bigger than nail holes), his dresser had a big chip out of the side, his bathroom was filthy, the shower rod was being held up with hair ties. The kitchen cupboards were dirty and had hair in them we had to bleach them all down, the floors were dirty. When sweeping it there were small rubber bands and small pieces of paper between the cupboards and refrigerator and the dryer was so full of lint that we took handfuls out. I didn’t want to believe the reviews that I read before signing him up to live here because I know many times people exaggerate. Unfortunately this is no exaggeration. I was really hoping we would have had a better first time experience.
This is my 3rd year living here and I will be at 58 West next year! Everyone in the front office is so friendly and helpful. I know that if I have an issue I can always go to them. A very fun and positive experience so far and looking forward to what is in store!
I lived here last year and moved back in couple months ago. They changed negatively! They charge you $25 for every time you borrow the temporary keys.Thats not the worst one. My patio got stuck and I couldnt get out or in of the house without jumping the fence and they just didnt care. Did not put it as a urgent request or anything. I got stuck in the house for the whole day. Luckily I didnt not have any class that day.Do not live here!
The apartments are nice and very reasonably priced. The amenities are great and newly updated. The pool area and hot tub are great in the summer! Overall a good place to live, the only draw back is the distance from WMUs campus.
Its a good place to start off for your first years of living by yourself. the apartment complex accommodates nicely with college students. and has cool community events for residents.
Dont live here. I was told I HAD to resign for 18/19 year after subleasing in early January 2018. Its horribly managed and I fill out maintenance requests just about every 2 weeks. Apartments are not worth the outrageous rent rates (and apparently theyre increasing). Cockroaches constantly in apartment during the summer, terribly small living space compared to the much better options in Kalamazoo. Received a new roommate assignment and uponmeeting her I was unsure how we would get along and voiced my concerns to the office. I was told to go in with an open mind and sure enough its been horrible. Do not waste your time.
