Just returned from a week on Maui and if I had to do it all over, I would not rent from this business. Even though it was less expensive than other agencies, the customer service left a lot to be desired. Firstly, when I turned on the engine, the tire pressure light was on, which made me a bit concerned about the safety of the vehicle. When I took a picture of the dash and sent it to Rudy, I did not get a reply. Most importantly, all communication was extremely vague. When I requested to extend our rental an additional 3 days and asked what the rate would be, I got: Itll be the current rate!. When I requested an invoice prior to providing them with my credit card, they did not reply, other than with a threat to send my bill to a collection agency if I didnt pay the balance. I asked a second time for an invoice and received it only once I gave them my cc. And then I discovered that they did not charge me the current rate (on my contract), but significantly more. it cost over $100 more for 3 days than the first 4 days. Poor communication. Poor service.

Rented for 9 days in May. We got a Toyota matrix. We had a lot of fun in this car! The car was in good shape and we will be renting from here again!

From pick-up to drop-off, everything with our car rental went so smoothly. We were well informed with instructions via text on how to pick up and drop off the car since it was contactless. Our flight was pushed back and the folks at Rent for Less let us keep the the car for an extra few hours and did not charge us for an additional day or extra fees. Every other car rental company near the airport either did not have vehicles or charged sky high prices, but Rent for Less was very reasonable with regards to price and had a vehicle for us.

We just got back home from an awesome Maui vacation and we had a rented a great Toyota Sienna from Maui rent for less.The prices where sky high every where else for renting a mini van and Maui rent for less provided exactly what we needed for a great price. The van ran great as we traveled all over the island.The pick up and return was simple and it’s only a 5 minute drive from Kahului airport.This is a great service they provide and when I had any questions they always responded promptly.Thank you again Rudy🙏

Car rental places tend to fall into 2 categories on Maui, corporate car rental w cars that still have the new car smell and rent a dent that have old car funk combined with air freshener. Rudy with Rent for less Maui has found the sweet spot, great quality cars that neither have the old car funk or new car toxins. Do not recommend if you are traveling with a group that is arriving at different times. Despite providing them info for myself, they refused to let me pickup since I didnt initiate contact for the booking.Youre better off booking at the airport, if you can get one.UPDATE: their email recommendations explicitly say One of you get the rental car and will come back to pick up the rest of your party . Also when I tried to reach out to them and was willing to do whatever signatures were needed, they were dismissive. Its too late for us, but save yourself the hassle and book elsewhere. Terrible customer service, they actually hung up on us during our conversation. Reservations were made in March with confirmation. We sent an email this evening to verify if they had the shuttle or if we needed to Uber. They sent us back an email stating reservation had been cancelled. After multiple calls, they finally answered and stated “because of COVID” all reservations were cancelled. When we responded that we had not been informed of this and if they were cancelled why are they still renting? He hung up. Our guess is they cancelled because our rate was much lower than the current price gouging happening among the islands. Hopefully we will get a refund. Unfortunately trying to support local and small business is not reciprocated with honest customer service.

We saved quite a bit on a weekly rental and did not sacrifice quality or service. (3/5 to 3/12/21). Definitely check out this option for your rental on Maui! This is an independent operation and the owner was in regular contact with me (text so not intrusive at all). The personal touch is a nice change!

Process was easy to pick up the keys and start our island journey. The car was clean and reliable.

Do not rent from this guy. We went through the process of paying for a rental online, only to find out that he actually had zero cars for rent. Feeling like we got ripped off, we took a taxi to his business to see what was going on. The owner, who I assume is “Rudy” was extremely rude, unprofessional and quite frankly a total jerk. DO NOT rent from him, or risk being scammed. He eventually refunded us, but I don’t know that he would have if we didn’t show up. Unreal.

Rented a van from this place, no pick up service available from airport. When we get there via taxi, keys are in lock box, open up the van and its dirty inside with broken headrest. Guy named Rudy walks by the gates inside the property and lets my husband know the driver side window doesnt work and when asked if he has anything else, he says no they are all booked out. The next day as we are driving and it starts to rain, the passenger side window doesnt go up. We call the guy and he tells us drop the van off and he will refund us, again we asked if he had anything else, we were told no. This guy Rudy was not nice at all, very unprofessional. Once we got the van back, we were told to leave the keys in the drop box, no help getting back to our hotel which was 40min plus from there. It took us 2hrs to get a ride back and there was no rentals available at other companies. This company and this guy Rudy ruined our vacation.

Lets start off with it is so difficult to find a rental car in Maui at this time, not impossible as I did rent one from Rudy. I I had called 20+ rental companies without luck, came across Rent For Less Maui and lucked out with a rental car. Placed my order on the website and spoke with Rudy to confirm. I was lucky as someone had canceled day prior and I was able to have the rental for the entire week we were there as I have heard some people had only been able to get a rental car for 1 - 2 days. The process was simple and straight forward, sent my info with DL and insurance through text message then received a confirmation email shortly after. On day of arrival I received text messages regarding pick up location at their office, lock box code, and photos of the rental car condition. Be aware that at the airport there were no Uber or Lyft available, ended up using the local taxi line which was rather fast. Even our taxi driver was surprise we were able to land a rental car, he said the major rental companies had shipped off 2000+ rental cars off Maui during COVID. Drop off process is just as easy. Thank you again for all the help, having this rental car certainly made the trip possible since Maui is very much a place you need a car. Thank you Rudy!

Very unreliable and shady. We reserved a car weeks ahead of time. Once travel started to pickup for Maui this guy canceled all his early reservations and inflated his prices. Putting many in a bind as most car rental places were already sold out. Unethical, spend your money somewhere else.*tried telling us the reason for canceling was due to COVID and they weren’t receiving new cars in time but other local car rentals told us exactly what he was up to, as we suspected. It was also obvious since he updated his website and increased his prices during this time.

Rudy was very helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. He pointed us in the right direction for surf/snorkeling/camping. Our van Pono was kitted out perfectly to meet all our needs - cook stove, cooler, solar power for charging our electronics, good bed, clean sheets etc. We hit serious weather including snow and I was so glad not to be in a tent! Great service was in and out in 5 minutes. We were shown how to open and closed the tent and off we went. Car was great as well as chairs and all the camping stuff. I would recommend and rent again!

Vehicle was fine for the price. The vehicle wasnt ready on time and we had to leave and come back the next day. The owner agreed over the phone to take one day off the rental. Sounded like a good solution. Showed up the next day and he said nope, if you had waited around for 3 hours we would have been able to take it that day. Contracts mean nothing to Rudy. Also very hard to reach on the phone or over email. Cheap price but you get the character of a crook.

We had excellent service from Maui Rent for Less! It was a very uncomplicated process. The car was easy to find, clean and great to drive! We actually had the misfortune of having someone sideswipe the car at the Costco parking lot and Rudy was very gracious, understanding and helpful about it. So you can definitely trust these guys if something goes wrong! We were so happy with the car, price and person that we dealt with that we will be booking a car here again next year.

DO NOT rent if you are under 25! Although their website says you can in the FAQ, we were left scrambling last minute when we were told there was a strict under 25 policy. We had been assured before even booking that we could rent being under 25, but when checking in a week before the rental to make sure all was good we were abruptly told we had to cancel. Thankfully we received a full refund but it was quite a stressful ordeal trying to get it - numerous different contact numbers, and Rudy kept hanging up on me when I asked for an explanation about the miscommunication on the website, which left us very uneasy. It was also very stressful trying to finding another option less than 1 week before our trip. There are other great, affordable companies in Maui which offer no-hassle rentals for under 25s - go to them instead!

Best car rental on Maui, period. If it werent for Rudy I would still be waiting in line at Advantage rental car. I had booked a rental at Advantage a month before arriving on Maui. But when we arrived, the line was over an hour long and barely moving. I quickly scanned the nearby rental places and called Cars/Rent for less. I got Rudys cell and he immediately drove to the airport, picked us up, and got us on the road in less than 30 minutes. RUDY IS THE BEST. Drop-off was easy and he gave us a ride back to the airport as well. The prices were similar or less than Advantage. Seriously, you cant beat this kind of customer service AND were supporting local business. Please consider going local when you visit and rent from Rudy! THANK YOU RUDY! You are awesome.

We just came back from our 8 days vacation from Maui. Rudy was very friendly and showed us some of the must see places on a map. He contacted us to be updated on our flight status and was happy to accommodate us when our flight was changed and we arrived 12h ahead of schedule. The cars are a bit old (ours was a 2012 Corolla), but as long as they get you to your destination, all is good. Will rent again next time from these folks.

We did not exactly what to expect about the vehicle we were renting and we have been more than satisfied. Jay and Rudy are very nice and took the time to explain very well the great places to visit in Maui. Our car was clean, in good conditions and we highly enjoyed the Tepui Tent on top of our Pathfinder. Thank you and hope to have the chance to go back there soon!

We were a group of 6 and an infant and we booked a 7 seater car. We were promised a dodge caravan but instead got a very old, squeaky Ford expedition. The brakes screeched and i had to practically start braking half a mile away for it to stop at a traffic light. Pretty bad to drive. We requested them to exchange the car for a different / newer one but they had no availability. As a good honest business they should have refunded our money when we returned the car 2 days earlier. Instead they charged us a $60 cancellation free. :( Dont rent from here again

We rented from here in November. It took us 3 cars to get one that was fairly decent. They did take care of us but have yet to refund the gas we put in to the car .tthtyh

Rudy was awesome. Great place to get a vehicle that is cheap and gets you around the Island. The cars are NOT brand new so dont expect perfection however the service was great with minimal fuss and was as fast, if not faster than the big names, plus we saved $$$$. We will be back.

Do yourself a favor and don’t rent from this company. The guy who runs it is shady. We rented a car with a tent on top from him. The listing stated that it was that exact car, had brand new tires, 4wd, pet friendly, and ran great. This listing did not say it was for something similar, it was for that exact car. This car was our transportation and a place to stay. When we arrived late at night, we found that it was a totally different car, with bald tires, ball joint and suspension problems, and a complete downgrade from what we were told we were getting. His excuse was that the car we rented broke down and was in the shop. He didn’t he tell us this prior to arriving. His solution was for us to either keep this car or he’ll refund us and we’ll be stranded to figure things out on our own. So now we have to go find a new rental car and a new place to stay while we are still here on a business trip. He has terrible customer service and you will get screwed. I had to have the cops come over for an incident number because he took time and money away from us since we’re also here for business. I have proof of everything if anyone wants to see. Do yourself a favor and rent somewhere else or from an actual local. He’s not even from here which definitely shows because he has no aloha.

I wanted to reserve a Camry for 6 days and got a price of $149 - cool! I clicked reservation now and the price shot up to $299 excluding tax - not cool! Called the owner but didn’t get a better price. Rented for less elsewhere.

Rudy and his team was very helpful. Our plane arrived early in the morning and Rudy picked us at the airport within 10 min after we called him. He provided us a temporary car to do the grocery shopping while the PONO van was still being cleaned after the previous renters. He also informed us about the safe and not-so-safe areas on the island and all the camps and public parks where we could easily camp. We ended up camping at Haleakala Hosmer Grove camp, Kipahulu Campground (S-E), and Hoapili Trail entrance (S-W), beautiful place for both sunrises and sunsets. We traveled the island all the way around and enjoyed every minute. The van provided everything we needed and more (solar panels were a big plus, provided us the power to charge phones, cameras and the laptop during our stay). Our flight to the mainland was scheduled for 1145 pm, we checked out at 10 am, but Rudy provided us with another temporary car so we can continue the island exploration. The whole experience was easy, friendly and enjoyable. Thank you Rudy and the team. We will definitely be back to Maui and rent again. Mahalo!

These guys are half the price of the big name rental companies. You get a car that looks like a locals car. Not another jeep or mustang. I will be only renting from them in the future.

I needed an affordable car to rent for my 9 days in Maui, and decided to try Rent For Less. I had a positive experience and would rent from them again! Please be mindful that it is a smaller operation and the whole process isnt like your regular car rental. In all honesty, the process was a bit sketchy, but glad it worked out (It felt like I was taking a risk). When I called I was speaking to a lovely woman on the phone (Daniella) who made me feel much more comfortable about the whole thing. Normally I would rent from a well-known car rental company like Avis, or Budget etc... but they were all so expensive.I had paid for the rental online before my arrival and she had the car parked at the airport waiting for my arrival. She texted me where it was located and had the key in a lock box on the door with the paperwork inside, simple as that. I had a bit of trouble finding the car in the lot since it was dark, but she texted me the entire time and told me she would stay with me until I found it and knew I was okay. I thought that was wonderful service, rather than just leaving me to fend for myself.When I returned the car, it was again at night, and it was an unmarked parking lot area and I had a hard time knowing where to go even though I had the address. It wasnt until a man came out to the road where I was and told me where to park. Thank goodness my boyfriend was with me otherwise I would have felt very uncomfortable. The gravel parking lot wasnt lit and quite dark, and all I could see was someone standing around a barrel in the back which was on fire (guessing they must have been BBQing something??). Again, not your typical car rental location, but it was a very easy return. The man drove us to the airport and dropped us off and that was it!As sketchy as the whole thing was, it was affordable and the car was in good condition (great air conditioning!!!) and the process was very easy. Also it may have only been sketchy because I was picking up the car at night, and returning it at night....maybe the daytime would have been better.

Reallly good and super fast service

While the owner is a nice guy and the cost is about $100-$300 cheaper than a more reputable car rental place, I don’t recommend renting from cars for less. Our car was unsafe as the tire sensor never went off. There was zero tred on the tires which felt very unsafe. The car shook so bad all week at every stop sign and waiting in traffic, it was beyond frustrating. The power steering did not work and we didn’t do a few things based on knowing the car would not be able to turn in or turn around. The antenna was broken so we couldn’t listen to the radio. We had to wash and vacuum the car before returning it or risk a $190 cleaning fee. Our reservation was for a convertible VW bug or convertible BMW. We ended up with a 2012 mutishubishi convertible, just not even close to the same. When I told the owner of our experience, he was only defensive so I just let it go as the trip was over. Why didn’t we return the car sooner? We were on vacation. The place was an hour away. I didn’t know what else we would end up with.He did not apologize or offer any kind of refund. He made it feel as if it was my own fault. Buyer beware

We rented a 4x4 with rooftop tent for five days at the end of December. We were picked up from the airport; that was very easy and fast. The car was very good, nice and decent (Nissan Xterra). The rooftop tent was very open, there was only a cover against rain at the top, the sides were open (only a kind of grid / mosquito net) so it could blow right through and therefore also rain. We found that a disadvantage since it can still rain on Maui. We have not had any real problems with it, but we have seen tents that were completely protected against the rain and that in itself is more desirable. We did get clear instructions on how to unfold and set up the tent. That was really easy. The tent was ready within five minutes of parking at a campsite. The mattress was good and comfortable. The attributes that were included are fairly basic. Make sure you bring enough warm clothing and a sleeping bag or at least a sheet bag if you go camping at Hosmer Grove because the materials you get as a sleeping kit are mainly sheets and pillows (including a fitted sheet that didnt even fit around the mattress) and with that especially suitable for a warm climate at sea level. In our car a nice stove was built with a gas cylinder so you could heat up food quickly. The pans that were included were so small that the stove did not really come into its own. Certainly something could be improved on that. All in all we have made a fantastic trip on Maui with our 4x4 with rooftop tent. I recommend it! Handing in was also easy and we were quickly returned to the airport.
