The manager and the employees I interacted with were all fantastic. They were friendly, very accommodating, and willing to problem-solve. I was truly impressed with my rental, the service, the ease of returning the rental...everything was top-notch. I dont write very many reviews. When I asked the manager where to send a commendation letter about Advantage OGG he said to provide feedback online so here I am. Advantage Rent A Car Maui was critical in making our vacation the best it could be.

The line was over an hour and a half to get my car even though everyone had reservations. They mistakenly kept my license, which I take partial responsibility for not catching, but then did not call to tell me they had it even though they had both my phone number and email address. Instead, when I realized the next night that it was gone, I spent the evening calling every place Id been in the last 24 hours. When I called this location, it was only reachable through a main customer service line. They had to leave a message here as no one picked up. When I went to pick it up, one employee told me I would need to stand in the rental car line again. I asked a woman near the front how long she had been in line. She said 2.5 hours. The attached picture is just the outside portion of the line that day. Finally, I was able to talk one of the parking attendants into taking me back to the managers office where it was being stored. Additionally, I included a picture as various gauge lights would turn on and off intermittently while driving. the car did not seem well maintained based on this.

Snail slow. More than 30 people in line and only 2 employees working. Taking almost 15 minutes per customer. We will be here a long time. Will never use this car company at this location again.Based upon other views I just read, this seems to a consistent known problem that is NOT being addressed.

Slow service. Dirty facility. One clerk was rude, abusive & only interested in scaring the hell out of young car renters. Goal was to sell every additional service, upgrade & coverage. Total jackass. Avoid the jerk on the right, others were polite & professional.

Edited my review: the car was great and while they do have a wait to check in (most places do) the service was polite and helpful, we had a miss understaning about rate and hours, after returning the car but phone assistance was not helpful (51min), though from email they did get back to me with a resolution (use email for customer support). Car was excellent condition and process easy, Maui is great via car good drives on highways. Also IF you are on the cruise ship parking at the Maui Beach hotel (15min walk) overnight $5 much safer than getting towed from whole foods.

Great experience! I read the reviews and was very leery. We rented a mini van and Advantages price was half of Hertz or any other company. I left my wife and kids to retrieve our bags and went directly to the rental car counter when our plan landed. I had one person in front of me in line and had to wait for ~4 minutes. Checkout was easy and no pressure to upgrade. We received a brand new Chrysler with less than 5k miles on it. Car was clean and did what we needed it to. Return was super simple and charges came out to what were expected. I used to travel a lot and am familiar with rental cars and Advantage was a great experience. We will rent from them again when we return to the islands.

The fact that its airport waking able is nice. Not good because of the really pressing up-selling they tried on me. In addition, the car we got smelled like smoke so I drove the rental for 4 days with the window downs and the heater up. My luggage to myself smelled like smoke.Good for the price but make sure you speak up.

I had a great experience with Advantage. All the directions that I received prior to my trip were very explicit and thorough. Once I arrived the line was long, but it moved rather quickly which I didnt expect, due to prior experiences with other car rental agencies. I did a quick check and dropped my paper in the box. Then I was on my way. Drop off was just as efficient. Thank you for the quick service!!!

Worst service ever! I got a rental for a week and arrived with my reservation. They swiped my card for $800+ dollars and then went later told me that they dont accept prepaid cards. So now they had the mone on hold and was out of luck with them. Definitely would not recommend this place at all .

Was having a long layover at Maui so decided rent a car to wonder around. The prize is quite affordable (30 in total for 1 day). Was arriving around 9 and no line at the center. Check in and return was very smooth. Car is clean and new.

Easy and inexpensive rental car experience. Despite not asking for it, we were upgraded from a standard car to an SUV (for free), which was nice. Check in and check out were both smooth and efficient. Taxes and fees almost doubled the cost of our rental, but I think that is true of all of the rental agencies here and not the fault of Advantage. Like if you agree that taxes and fees on car rentals are too high!

Nice car, easy checkout. But KNOW YOUR INSURANCE before going, because you will get pressure tactic to buy their insurance, since they say they could end up charging you for 6-8 weeks of maximum daily rate while the car is being repaired. Seriously? I think that their rate are lower because they make up for it by overselling their insurance.

Hooked by the advertisement, best prices on the island. Then stood in a line, more than 25 deep, with two clerks, finally getting to four, but damage done. Would give the competition a chance before returning in the future. The vehicle is a low mileage compact that is in good condition and served the purpose expected. Just a little longer, well lot longer, than is normal, to get the car, and not at all what is near the top of the best.

Car was dirty and smelled. At the counter I signed a waiver for collision insurance but was never told this would cost us an additional $20/day so my bill was WAY higher than expected. When I called to talk about this with company they said well you signed it. NO HELP WHAT SO EVER. My Recommendation use a reputable company NOT THEM!!Selena Metal

We have been extremely happy with the service that advantage has provided. They made the check in process very smooth and quick. They were extremely helpful with our car rental and answering the questions I had about the island. When we got the car it was in great condition. I will definitely be using them again!

Definitely do not use these guys. Sounds inexpensive and easy... ha!! They had the wrong address and had us going in circles for 2 hours!!!!! Then, finally when we found the location- IN the airport, the estimate was not anywhere close.Dan- whoever he is was sorta helpful. But did not come thru as he said. It changes over to Advantage rental cars one you get to the airport. The salesman pressures you into buying their insurance. “ If you are in an accident, until the car is totally repaired, you are liable for it” when asked if our insurance covers the rental he lies and says NO! Again pushing the insurance. He then says he is “ upgrading “...The first 3 cars were horrible shape and they had already gave us a “free “ upgrade!!! Finally found a car suitable. Wow! What a horrible way to spend 4 hours in paradise.Then it gets worse. I emailed a complaint. No response. I called customer service- in Guatemala...-really? The man on the phone. (Same guy) came back on the phone saying he was the manager..so I call back. Now there is no manager. Beware!!!! Know your rights and don’t deal with this business!!!

So very easy checking in at counter. We did have reservations confirmed which is a must. The car choice was like “ go pick any car in section———, keys are in the cup holder”. The car was immaculate. The only problem was the car freshener they used was an assault on the senses. You could actually taste it, the scent was so strong. Sort of drowned out the lovely scents of Maui.....Drop off was a snap. Car returned in under 5 minutes and we were on our way.....I will rent from them again, you can be certain.....

There are a ton to f hidden fees that they charge at rental. Even if you have full coverage insurance they get you to purchase an additional coverage.Plus asked for a two door Jeep, it only 4 door Jeeps were available.Jeep we got has a broke sound system. Phone can not connect.Agent at the counter was great and tried to minimize the pain the best he could.

The worst customer service experience Ive ever had. I returned my car on time (two hours ahead of time) and they charged me for an extra day. Their customer service center wont resolve the issue and they told me to hang up because there is nothing they can do. They wouldnt give me the phone number of the actual location to speak with someone who works there either. So I drove to the rental car center and was told the manager would resolve the issue and call me back. Ive called five times since and no resolution. All the have to do is look at the security footage to see the car was returned on time, and they refuse. They overcharged me and wont fix their mistake. Essentially they are stealing and just hoping that I go away. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM.I havent gotten an email to further review my experience since your response. Ive left my phone number with the manager, as well as 3 different customer service representatives and no one has called me back.

Waited 50 minutes to get served! Agent could have cared less when POLITELY indicated the situation. Customers were leaving and going next door...got a 50% discount....mentioned that the agent should inform her boss. Agent said she doubted if her boss would care! Stay away from these guys....go elsewhere where your business will be valued

It was a little bit busy at the time. But line move faster as a new guys shift started. The wait to get the car was about an hour since they needed to clean it and wash it. We where staying for a few hours in Maui and asked them if we could just have the car as it is. They didnt hesitate and gave us the keys. Great customer service. Would definitely rent with them again.

Horrible wait times! I was 6th in line and waited over an hour. Not the best communication with booking. Customer service was non existent. When I book through Hotwire it was communicated to me that car seats for children were available upon requests, no mention of a charge. When I got there they charged me $136 for 8 days. And it wasnt even for a car seat, it was just a booster seat. So I had to drive around Hawaii with my two and a half year old in a booster seat. if I knew they were going to charge especially that much, I would have brought our own .Upon returning the car, our flight had changed to later in the day and we had to return the car 5 hours later. They ended up charging me an extra $70 for that.In the end, this was not worth the discount because I would have ended up paying the same at another rental company and getting better customer service and communication.I will never use advantage rental car again and I will be sure to share that with all of my friends and family.

Agents were nice but acted like they couldnt believe they had no cars. Long waits. Good thing we werent picky about what kind of a car. Those that were took up an agents time for 30 or more minutes while they looked for a car. One agent left for the day when there were 16 people in line. Never again. Go with a company that knows what they are doing.

I received a charge on my credit card 5 months after my vacation. When I called to find out what the charge was for, the customer service person told me it was for fees and taxes. I did not believe this as I had my rental agreement that showed I paid the full amount and had nothing owing. It was also strange that fees and taxes would come out to an even $40.00. I pressed the customer service rep for more details but kept being told it was for fees and taxes. After more than 45 mins on the phone, she finally told me that the issue would be raised to her supervisor. After a week of not hearing anything back, I emailed them for a response and received nothing. I emailed again threatening to file a dispute with my credit card company and finally got a reply. The reply did not have any explanation just another invoice showing different charges. I asked for clarification and they stopped responding to my emails. I will never rent a car from advantage again.

Location is slightly further away from airport than most, but less than 5 minutes difference. They make up for it in excellent service at the counter. I was in my car within 10 minutes. Same on the return. Dropped off and in shuttle within 5 min. Shuttle bus left within 5 minutes. Car was in good shape and was clean. Everyone attentive to serve customers.

Do not rent from this company. They charged me for gasoline when I returned the vehicle with the exact same amount of gas that I received it with. I picked up the vehicle with 3/4 of a tank. I put over 150 miles on the car and returned it with 3/4 of a tank. They didn’t record this so they charged me for the gasoline. I spoke with a manager (Ervin) and all I wanted was a refund for the gas. He refused and only offered me a voucher good for 1 year. He told me I had to prove that the tank wasn’t full. The car was fine. The staff were pretty friendly. But we ordered a car seat, thinking it would be safer and more convenient than bringing our own. The car seat was dirty, missing pieces, and none of the staff knew how to install it. It was also not rear facing which put our child at an even more increased risk of injury in the event of a crash. The whole experience soured us on Advantage as we were given no prior warning to the debacle we would face, and even paid extra for upgrades. We would like a refund on the car seat as we had to rent a safe, clean one from Maui baby.

It would be great to be able to book online when residing in other countries but beyond that, everyone from the phone booking agent to the counter rep were exceptionally helpful. Would rent from them again in a heartbeat.

Never again. Took a total of 1.5 hours to get our car. Yes we were booked. Bit more than an hour in line. Then the car had 4 dents and 3 big scratches to document that the car sheet did not list. Im half expecting them to come after me after turn in. my agent was cool but one of the others argued with everyone. Since I had an hour standing there it was somewhat entertaining.......if u find accidents entertaining!

They will try to sell you insurance that is covered by your credit card, check your cred card coverage. the gas program is a RIP off, just fill up your tank before returning the car. they tried to rent me a larger car. in fact they were out of compact cars and gave me a larger one anyway, I would have preferred a smaller car. they were slow to check out, real push to upsell ins, gas bigger cars.

Watch out! Worst car rental experience ever! Terrible service. Over a 2 hour wait for a prepaid rental, scam to up-sell, and ROACHES!! No joke! We waited over an hour in line to get to the desk. We did not get the car we reserved, they told us they would give us a nicer one (due to the wait?). We waited another hour for the keys, and finally got a kia optima... not the car they told us or the car we reserved. Apparently several people were in the same boat who had prepaid waiting outside for their car to be delivered. When we got up to the counter, they tried to up-sell us for everything including an SUV so we wouldnt have to wait for our car to come out of the wash. After we got through the ordeal, we made it to our destination, and were mostly driving around for a day or 2. After getting some snorkeling gear out of the trunk and placing them inside our cottage we noticed a roach next to it. The place we stayed was super nice and did not have bugs. It was late, and we went back to the car with a flashlight. Sure enough we found medium sized roaches and baby ones inside of the arm rest under the seat, and in the trunk. We did not eat in the car once! In the end, by the time we returned the car, they over charged us anyway. Find any other car rental place if you are going to Maui

More clowns than a three ring circus!Im a pilot with a major Hawaiian airline. My car was in the shop. Spent an hour and a half in line at Maui airport. The line was out the door. Finally get to counter only to find out they cant find my reservation. Was told this sometimes happens. Would not honor online reservation but would happily rent me a car at $60 more per week. Do yourself a favor and go to Hertz or National. Lines are much shorter and the cs agents know what they are doing.

Worked with Kyle from Advantage and things could not have been smoother. First of all super friendly, and after coming off a 16+ hour flight, trust me a hello and sincere smile goes a long way. Also, super fast and efficient. Before I could blink we were out the door exploring Maui in a 2018 Ford Focus! He also gave great recommendations on what to do during our stay in Maui. And our return / drop off could not have been smoother. He remembered me and my wife’s name and came right up to us to ask us how our vacation was with smile on his face. He checked us in and within minutes we were on the shuttle to the airport. Can’t say enough nice things about Kyle and Advantage. Kyle made something as complicated as renting a car super easy and FAST!! Look forward to renting again :)

Friendly service, didnt pressure me to prepay fuel or buy superfluous insurance. Nice, clean car and easy parking. Shuttle bus from/to airport was pretty quick.Make sure you take the initial damage check seriously because when I checked the car back in, the employee told me theyd have held me liable for the dent if I hadnt marked it down before I left.

Honestly I feel like I’ve been scammed. I rented the car online and paid in full, yet after the vacation I was charged nearly $400 in additional charges that were never mentioned in advance and were not agreed upon (there was no damage to the car, wasn’t brought back late etc). I’ve contacted them to show them I had already paid for everything and they told me that the invoice I had was only a quote. I cannot get them to refund those charges or explain how or why they have been charged (based on the invoices it looks like they are charging me for the taxes, confession fees, licensing fees etc twice, as they had already been paid at the time of reserving the car).Do not rent from them

If there was an option for 0 stars they would deserve it. This is the first time I have ever cared enough to write a review. WORST RAN COMPANY I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. This long message does not even cover my full experience.When we arrived the line was out the door. There was 1 person working the front desk while 4 other check in computers were not being used. We arrived at 245pm. Around 3pm I asked if the people I could see not doing anything could help check us in. I was told, they just got here and will start soon. 15 min later no changes. I was then told people are taking their break. 30 minutes later someone (later found out it was the manager) started walking through the line with bite size candy bars. I said, I think people would feel better if more computers were being used than getting a free small candy bar. He looked at me and laughed.Once we finally got to the front they instantly tried to sell us a more expensive vehicle. I was yelled at. I was told by the front desk lady CAMILLE to give her pen back 3 times...I said, Im not going to steal your pen, Ill give it back as soon as we are done. She then told me again. I dropped it on the counter. She yelled at me to not throw the pen at her and that my mom didnt raise me like that.Once we finally got our keys I asked the outside manager where our car was. His exact response: hold the key fob in the air and press lock/unlock...its amazing how that works. WOW. He then started to cuss my friend out while I was inspecting the car.The entire process took over 2 hours. I have called customer service twice and sent an email. Have received no calls back and no information back.Just noticed this as I was scrolling through other reviews. What kind of company owner ONLY comments about 5 star reviews? I have BEGGED to talk to to the company owner.

I had never heard of Advantage but decided to go with it because of the price. My husband and I were very pleased with the gentleman who helped us. He was very polite and very speedy. We were out of there and in our car in less than 15 minutes. Our check in was even faster. Thanks for the great service.

We ordered economy class car, but when we arrived they said they are out of economy car options and offered us upgrade and pay +100$ more, or wait some (non predictable) time until somebody will bring the car back. I’m frequent traveller and usually got upgraded to higher class with no charge as it’s not client’s fault they don’t have an appropriate option. Won’t use them again.

Horrible customer service and high prices. Man at the counter kept trying to get us to pay for extra insurance and a more expensive vehicle. The prices were much higher than other car rentals, and when we asked to extend the rental for just 12 hours on the last day they wanted to charge us almost $150. Instead we went with another company that only charged us $60 for one day. Definitely would not recommend this company to anyone.

Customer service at this location from Fernando was exceptional. We tried to extend our rental over the phone and they wanted to charge us more! We stopped in at the office and they were able to resolve it immediately. Great service. Only gripe with the rental was the windshield glass was all smudgy the night we picked up the car but a quick wipe with paper towel took care of that

This company scams you into get an upgrade rental so the wait is incredible long. We travel to Maui often for business, my husband is an artist, first time renting with this company. We missed our meeting because of the long wait, two hours!!! The car weve reserved was not available they gave us a sport useless car, our luggage did not fit and we had art with us!, another 20 minutes figuring out how to get our all of it in the car!! and now theyre claiming we are liable for scratches under the front bumper. We did not check under the bumper for scratches!! my husband is 6.4!!! we waited two hours for the car we have reserved! not a sport car! Missed our appointment and now have to pay for scratches that I am sure were there before. We barely used the useless car!! If they had the car we have reserved, all this would not happen! STAY AWAY! not matter how cheap they rentals are, does not worth the stress, bad services a TOTAL SCAM not cool! not aloha here...Here is an easy way for you to remember how to avoid this company, we now call it DISADVANTAGE

The Maui location practices deceitful and predatory behavior. I was wrongly charged and lied to regarding required minimum insurance. I verbally declined insurance (I have Chase Sapphire Reserve) and was told, in order to leave the rental lot I need minimum Collision Damage but not to worry that it would only be a temporary authorization on my card until the car was returned. I was charged >$250 for insurance I declined. DO NO RENT ADVANTAGE. Ive reported this to the Better Business Bureau.

UPDATE!! earlier I wrote: Beware of these guys!!!Please see additional note at endOn Feb 18 2020 we rented a car for three days from Advantage at the Kahalui airport. We paid $44.10 for them to fill the tank when we return but were told that would be credited back if we returned the car with a full tank. When we returned the car, we stopped at Costco on the way and filled the tank. When we checked the car in, we told the attendant specifically that we had filled it and expected credit for it as had been promised when we picked up the car. She checked the car and verified that the tank was full and she assured us that we had been credited for the gas. When we got home, we discovered we had not been credited, When we called they claimed we had returned the car empty. BTW. I called them twice. the 1st time you get someone in Mexico, 2nd time Guatamala. Think you can call the office in Maui? Fat chance.As expected, I received a lame boilerplate apology below that does not include correcting the error and refunding us as appropriate. I would like to think that Advantage is an honorable company that had made an honest mistake. Presently I am convinced otherwise. If they surprise me, I will withdraw this review.Update: After sending in a proof of our gas purchase, we were able to call and actually speak with the person to processed our rental. She indeed acknowledged we had returned a car with a full tank and remembered serving us. She apologized for the error and refunded our money. She explained that there had been a technical issue with their system. I will except her word and her apology on that matter.I very much appreciate that Hillary took care of the matter.The lesson for me is, regardless of who you rent from, always get a written receipt. Mistakes do occur, even with the most conscientious companies.

Car smelled horrible and had sand and two dead roaches in it. Horrible customer service. Initial estimate for charges did not include some charges that I could not opt out of - why arent they included in initial estimate if they will be charged regardless?!? Overall we were very happy with Advantage Rent A Car in Maui. The only draw back was apparently multiple planes landed around the same time, therefore there was a very long line of people waiting to get a car. It would have been nice if Advantage had a few more employees helping with the check out. It took us quite a while to get through the line, but that was the only thing we were unhappy with. The shuttle service was good and the driver was very nice to help all the passengers load their bags. The lady at the counter was nice, efficient and didnt try to guilt us to take the extra insurance like most car rental places do. She even was kind enough to give us a free upgrade. Overall I would use them again...their price was the best I found!

I will never rent from Advantage again. I normally don’t write reviews, but I feel the need to warn more people of this company. We actually had a fairly nice pick up experience in Maui - aside from the long wait time. The agent, Joshua, was a very nice gentleman and shared with us that he would waive the refueling fee and that we did not need to fill up our gas tank before drop off. After we dropped off our car, we received our email receipt and saw an $82 refueling fee.When I called Advantage to inquire about the fee, the agent I spoke with over the phone was incredibly rude and condescending. I work in customer service, and I was appalled at how the situation was handled. He interrupted me multiple times while I was speaking, said that he could send me a copy of the contract (despite me explaining the situation with Joshua multiple times), left me on a “brief” hold for 25 minutes and refused when I asked if I could speak with a manager. They said they have to “investigate” the situation and it would take 24-48 hours to receive a response. Which, from a customer point of view, puts the ball in Joshua’s court to remember what he said to a customer 10 days ago (vs putting the customer first). Editing my review after my call to Customer Representative.Initial issue is, the people in Rental office given higher prepaid fuel amount, proposed to upgrade car without the actual need and forced to buy insurance on top of collision insurance from expedia.The excessive charges mentioned has been withdrawn after explaining the issues to customer care.

Returning after 9 years to beautiful Maui to relax and have a stress free vacation, I booked a car with Advantage Rent A Car. When we arrived to the office there was a small line and the pace of helping customers was the one of a turtle. Finally after almost 1/2 hour of waiting a person of incredible size for a human had us sign so many papers and charged a $200 deposit to my credit card additional to a very expensive weekly fee ($400+)....that made me think am renting an apartment. The car that we rented from this agent a gold/beige color Ford was really bad. The car died on the first busiest intersection. I called Adventages Roadside assistance, which never arrived. Instead 2 good Samaritans pushed us out of the intersection so we would not block it. A policeman also showed up. I got the car started after a few minutes and drove it back. The problem persisted and every time I stopped the for red light, the engine died. Thank God the rental was only around the corner. We did receive a different car, which was just fine, but this awful experience made me so stressed and I was really scared, so was my poor 80 year old mother.Now when I returned the car, a nice lady by the name Mel (after I told her this story) she said she will talk to the manager about some sort of a discount, but I am not very optimistic. This rental place bad, I would discourage everyone who reads this review to use it.

Uninformative rental agent. Didn’t explain anything and try to sneak 3x amount on charges. Try to get me to sign the document as quick as possible w/o explanation. Became unhelpful and angry after I refused additional insurance which I already have. That’s bad business ethnics and poor customer service. This is the 2nd time. Taking my and hopeful your business else where.

There was a bit of a wait, but people were asking so many unnecessary questions at the counter! Do your research to make it faster for the rest of us in line.The agents were friendly and helpful. When it was my turn it took around 5 minutes.The car was as I had reserved and ready to go.The shuttle is curbside, across form the baggage claim - so don’t walk to where the other shuttles pick you up.

If you plan to spend an hour or so getting the car, you can make this work.If you dont have a lot of time, this is SUCH a bad rental experience. The price was amazing, about a third of the other rental companies. The other companies are located right on the airport property, while Advantage Rent A Car is maybe a mile away and you have to take a shuttle. Shuttle drivers are nice and helpful, and the shuttle ran frequently (every 5-10 minutes). The car type Id reserved wasnt available, so they upgraded me to a large vehicle. In the parking lot, I saw the guys two groups behind me in line getting into a car like Id reserved. The place is pretty random, with wild chickens and roosters running around (pretty cute, really). The cars are generally a little banged up, so document everything on your checkout, and take photos all around. All that said, I wasnt on a tight schedule and I had no problems using or returning the car. It was mainly just the issue of not getting the class Id reserved, and the hour-plus it took to get the rental.

I experience it or vantage was much different than other car-rental places. Were greeted with the offer of a free shave ice, nice cold air conditioning, no line and a quick Check-out. The vehicle received was much nicer than other vehicles that I priced out for much more money. We were very happy with our overall experience advantage

Line to pick up the car was so long (probably around 2 hours) that we paid to rent another car from a different company. We were not given a refund per their policy: If you do not cancel a pre-paid reservation within 24 hours of the scheduled pick-up time or if the rental vehicle is not picked up by the close of business on the arrival date listed on the confirmation email, the entire amount will be forfeited.Steer clear of Advantage.

I recently rented a car from Advantage for 16 days after arriving with an incorrect reservation from a third party broker. The agent was extremely helpful and quickly resolved the issue and got us on our way. I will definitely rental vehicles from Advantage in the future.

Agent gave mis-information to get us to upgrade and pay more than was quoted on our reservation. He said they did not have any 4 door intermediate cars, and we only could get a 2 door unless we upgraded to a larger vehicle and paid $30/day - which could be reduced to $15/day with some type of discount or $10/day with a Costco discount. In the garage we asked the agent there, and he shared the only 2 door vehicles were convertibles or some jeeps.He wasted our time with this lie and we ended up switching back to the intermediate, 4 door we had on our confirmation. Very disappointing.

Beware! You will pay hundreds more in unexplained “taxes” and fees, even if you fully prepaid your rental. Read the other recent one-star reviews below so the same doesn’t happen to you.Put a dark cloud over our whole vacation and after a month of trying to resolve issues with them they have just stopped responding to me. They do not care about their customers and are only interested in upselling you and scamming you out of money after your rental is over. They should be investigated. I have filed a fraud claim against them with Visa to try and get those extra charges reimbursed

Because they try continually to take ADVANTAGE of you.They are Bottom Feeders!!!!!!You will feel like taking a shower after dealing with the agents.They are just Sooooo Slimy.Watch your bill like a hawk.I waived collision damage 3 times and they still tried to sneak it in on the fourth time.The Bait and Switcher I dealt with asked to see my insurance which was promptly displayed. She stated not all insurance covers Rental. I told her I had confirmed Rental Coverage prior to travel so she didn’t need to go there.The gouged my son cause this was first time he had rented. Car was booked and explicitly stated did not need collision. They tacked it back in at the counter and he wasn’t aware.You should be better than BAIT AND SWITCH.Please don’t respond to me with “We take all these complaints seriously”No you don’t.The best explanation I can give is being at the fair and the guy keeps trying to entice you over for a game of chance where if possible he will rob you blind.They Hold the Advantage.!!!!!!

Many reviews of this place speak of long wait times - yes thats true, but you save so much money on the rates. Worthwhile! Advantage at Kahalui has benches so you dont have to stand. We waited half an hour and got our car, which took us on all the arduous treks Maui has to offer. 100% recommend!

FYI - The cost for a rental car (from any car rental company) on Maui around the Christmas/New Year holiday season is about 3-4 times their normal rate.We were able to get a rental car from Advantage for about twice the normal rate. This was good.On the downside, I had to wait in line for over an hour to check in and get the car. This may have been a fluke considering this was Christmas Eve around 3 pm, but Advantage should have known how people were expected to pick up cars. Out of 6 check-in spots, only 3 were staffed. And for whatever bizarre reasons, it took 15-20 minutes (or longer for some) to process their check-ins that day.Another plus though was the rental car return. I drove in and they checked us in immediately.

The Advantage kiosk was immaculate, my first experience booking through with Advantage (previously an Avis member). Specifically I want to call out Fernando - who was the most pleasant person I have come across during my time here in Hawaii for our honeymoon (if that’s even possible as Maui itself has been overall pleasant). I specifically wanted a Volkswagen Beetle convertible and he made every effort to ensure my needs and wants were met and even offered some amazing suggestions while on the island. His client service alone made me a true believer in Advantage and will be using them going forward. Thank You Advantage team at Maui Airport!

Very pushy sales of the all inclusive insurance which costs as much as the rental of the vehicle. Threatening that whatever insurance you have, will not cover damages or the cost of parts will be passed on to the renter. Otherwise, the car was new and had no issues.

Advantage?More like TAKE ADVANTAGE (nice.)The agents use fear tactics to get you to purchase the insurance on the vehicle, and when you ask questions they try to confuse you, and even gaslight you. At one point I literally said Wait, stop, I am confused. Do I need this insurance to rent this car? at which point the agent doubled down and said What will you do if you get pulled over by the cops?Are you KIDDING ME? Predatory companies like this should be banned from doing business. Please treat customers like human beings instead of vulnerable open wallets.EDIT (after owner response)Honestly, its not the agents fault - its the companys fault for training and pressuring their agents into pushing unnecessary upsells onto their customers. Im SURE the agent would rather NOT have to do that. So please dont reprimand your agent and commend yourself for dealing with it. What youre dealing with here is a deeper trust and ethics issue in your business practices.

My excellent experience in Maui Advantage can be summarized in just a name: E.J. He waited on us with true professionalism & care....an experience with which we had NOT become accustomed in dealing with other rental car companies. Every customer in line in front of us expressed their unexpected wonderful experience at a car counter after a very long, tiring flight. When we returned the car after a week, he came out to the car to greet us & ask how the car performed. He has to have had military experience because of his professional demeanor. Advantage should immediately move him to upper level management responsible for improving customer care in every aspect of the car rental business.

Advantage charged a large for hold on my account at time I picked up and paid for the car. As I am on vacation this was very inconvenient. Also had to spend a great deal of time arguing about not wanting to upgrade the car. After the huge hold they were putting on my card there was no way I could upgrade. I told them at the first mention that I wanted the car I ordered but they still went on and on. Also about the insurance. I spoke with my insurance company before ordering so knew I didnt need it but that didnt stop the long argument. I will never use Advantage Rent a Car again

The price was great for a week and I got a Rogue instead of a Ford Fiesta!!! The pickup at the airport is not clear. You have to go to Stop #2, instead of where the big name agencies pick up. Dropping off you have to wait in line outside for someone to look over. All in all, its worth saving alos

Quick and efficient. I was pleasantly surprised to get nice upgrades for decent price.You need to take a shuttle from the airport to get there. For some reason this was not mentioned in my booking confirmation or at least I couldnt find it.At some point I wanted to swap a car for a different one during my rental. I was pleasantly surprised how smooth it went. I just dropped one car and picked the new one with minimum paper work.

Poor shuttle service, the customer service line closes at 10pm EST and this location doesn’t have a local number. We had to call the roadside assistance line in order to get a shuttle from the airport. Line was super long and they try to sell you trip packages.Go with Dollar they had much better service.

Super friendly staff. Very helpful and quick. Gave us helpful recommendations for places to go and warnings about traffic. We ended up upgrading to a soft top Jeep since we are in Hawaii and it’s been a terrific choice for less money than anywhere else.

Awful experience here -- even after confirming that I did not want any additional insurance multiple times, it was still added to my bill and pretty much doubled my rental car cost from what I paid for through a third party site. The person at the counter told me the initial cost was so high because a hold was being placed on my credit card and that I would get it back after I returned the car, which was not true. When trying to get reimbursed after dropping off the car, customer service informed me the account was closed and offered me a 20% discount on my next rental. Will never use Advantage again.

So bad, so so bad. We arrived and waited 25 minutes for a shuttle after watching the first shuttle leave empty. We were lucky though, only half the people waiting could fit on the shuttle and they ended up waiting almost an hour.Once we got to the office it was pretty much like going to a used car sales yard. Constant pressure to upgrade, get a GPS or the 4 attempts to get us to buy extra insurance. The while process to get the car took another 40 minutes. Thrifty offered to match our price from Advantage when we asked at the airport. We should definitely have gone with Thrifty. God help us if there is anything wrong with the car while we have it. Do yourself a favor, never rent from this company.

My wife rented a car here through Priceline. When she arrived, they informed her that they didnt have a Jetta, so they would give her an upgrade that would be a better deal. The car was fine, but when we returned home, we found that Advantage had charged us hundreds of dollars, in addition to the hundreds that Priceline charged. I will never rent from Advantage, and probably not Priceline either (since they apparently dont do any vetting).PS Couldnt understand anything said on the customer service line--very bad sound quality, but the upshot is that they refused to refund.

Do yourself a favor and don’t rent a car with Advantage. Your vacation will be welcomed with long waiting lines at the counter (~1 hour), bad customer service (no apology for the wait, agent showing insurance down your throat, bad attitude), and mis-typing your personal information on the reservation leading to more time having to spend calling to fix it. Overall unpleasant experience. Gave 2 stars instead of 1 only because the vehicle we reserved was the correct type and was clean. DON’T RECOMMEND!

Paid for a week rental on Priceline. Came to store and they said for $5 per day I could upgrade. Took the upgrade. 30 days later had $180 extra charges on cc. Called the location, tried to get resolved... never happened. Was taken for $150.... Loved Maui and the trip...

The agent I spoke to was helpful in suggesting available rental vehicles, and tailoring the rental vehicle to my needs. The rental vehicle was nearly new. Upon returning the rental vehicle, a driver was immediately dispatched to carry my family back to the airport. All personnel that I came in contact with were pleasant, and were respectful. Im very pleased.
