WAY SLOOOOOOW!! This was the longest rental car line I’ve ever waited in. I’m not sure what was going on but the line was long to rent my car and it was one of the slowest processes getting out of the garage on top of the initial line. I’m a ‘Gold’ member but that didn’t help a bit!!! When a rental car company eats into your vacation time it’s pretty sad. The only reason I gave two stars is because all of the employees were very nice and apologetic for the extreme delay. I do not blame this on the employees at all, but instead I blame this on Corporate Hertz for being cheap and not adequately staffing.

They never pickup calls. I called atleast 30 times in the past two weeks about a lost and found claim I raised. No one picked up the call. I tried to reach lost and found dept extension, customer service extension... No one picked up. extremely upsetting

Don’t rent from Hertz. Agent intentionally gave us misinformation for us to purchase fuel option with them. Called and sent email to Hertz customer relations 3 weeks ago on Sept 3 and no one contacted me. Very poor customer relations. Don’t trust this rental agency, there are so many that are better.

The people were nice, and it took around 30 minutes to get our car, but the car had no windshield washer fluid in it, which made it hard to see through at times( a few days later). And a day or two into out trip, we had low tire pressure. Did not effect our trip, but it would be nice to know the basic things are taken care of.

Friendly customer service, but car was pilau! Sunblock on the doors and seats, dirty/dusty compartments, the previous renters receipt was still on the middle console, weird stains on upholstery...Did hertz really clean the car?? Alamo is the way to go if they arent sold out.

It took over an hour to get our car rental from the pick up spot, even though we had already made a reservation. Their was only two employees working for a huge line. Everyone in line was not happy.Later on our trip, we got a flat tire. It took 40 minutes on to phone to even talk to someone for assistance. In total it took over two hours on the phone to get a tow truck called. The customer service agent was very helpful, but the wait was insanely long.It took the tow another 2 hours to come. In total it took over 5 hours of vacation for a simple flat tire. We stranded on the side of the road in the summer the whole time too. Good customer service when you are actually being helped, but extremely slow.

Fast and painless pickup despite what I heard from other reviews and discussions on Reddit about Hawaii car rental!We landed around 1pm, took the tram, and headed over to Hertz (2nd stop). Saw a sign that Gold Member could go straight to the parking lot, which we did. Saw my name on the board followed by See Desk, so we lined up with a few families ahead of us. Hertz staff came over to check our Safe Travel status on our phone. They needed to see both Screened: Yes and Exempt: Yes green check marks ✅. We were then told to go to the lot to pick a car. Overall I think the process took < 20 mins.

Rented a truck for one week. We were handed the keys and told to go pick out a truck from a corner of their lot. It was night time and after a 6 hour flight and covid screening requirements delaying us in the airport we were just ready to eat and check into our vacation rental. We selected a truck and exited the airport. Later in the light of the day we noted dents and scratches in the truck, assumed the rental company was aware. At the end of the week when we returned the truck, Hertz pointed out the damage and asked what happened. We informed them the damage was there prior to our rental. No further request for proof or any indication that we would be responsible for the damage was given. Now six weeks later my auto insurance calls me about a claim Hertz filed for the damage. My auto insurance will not pay as the damage claim is lower than the deductible. I am writing a negative review because I was not made aware that a claim against my insurance would be made. I am assuming they will now seek damage reimbursement from me after I paid an outrageous 3,000 dollars for a one week rental. At that rate their whole truck will be paid for in 5 months. Hertz should inform their clients to inspect the vehicle and record proof of damage. There was no one on the outside of their office to even assist us if we had concerns exiting the garage.

Terrible service! These guys ruined our vacation on Maui! First of all, they are not doing maintenance on the cars the way they should. We had dead battery which was impossible to jump. The battery was leaking from both sides. This is something that they HAVE TO notice it!!! Unacceptable!!!We got stuck in parking lot in 10 pm. We were on hold 30 mins before somebody picked up the phone. After that we were waiting for 2,5 hrs for assistance. The guy from AAA said Hertz not doing their job. Of course they are not. We left the car in the parking lot. No way to get any help from Hertz. No way how to get to airport to pick up a new car, what we supposed to do after paying $1200???That’s unbelievable. The worst service ever and guys who were not doing their job just ruined our vacation. We are extremely upset with everything. DO NOT RENT CAR FROM THEM!!!

Very very sly and misleading. We ordered a 7-seat van online because all the 8-seat ones were booked out even tho we have 8 people. When we got there, we requested an upgrade. They said the price was $460 dollars, and we thought this was the final price per day of the vehicle. We had already prepaid for the van, and they said the price would be deducted from our original price. However, they just billed us and it was $460 on top of what we had already paid for the van. Super misleading. Customer service wouldn’t listen. Definitely don’t recommend.Additionally, we waited for our car for about an hour.

Not a good experience. Arrived as a Presidents Club member to NO CARS on the lot at 4pm. Waited in line for about 45 minutes. Staff was personable & thats why I didnt give a 1-star review. No choice of car, waited another 30 minutes for a mid-size (no upgrade.). So 75+ minutes of waiting for a Presidents club member and no car choice, and no upgrade. Car was clean, no issues. On returning the car I was charged over $100 more than the rental quote on the paper they handed me when I drove off the lot. Not sure how that could happen, but a week later and still no response from Hertz! The liability insurance offered as a free perk for my USAA membership was charged to my account instead of being a complimentary benefit as was written on the pre-rental paperwork. I am very disappointed- mistakes do happen but ignoring them is not reasonable!

Of all the car rental companies at the airport, they were the slowest. Took over an hour and a half of waiting while the other rental companies I saw people come in and out within 5 minutes. I understand covid, but still... They need to be more organized and have a process going to speed things along. Would not recommend in the future for sure.

At a peak travel time, Hertz had only one agent working, yielding for a 90 minute to two hour wait time for a large group of people. It is so unacceptable for a company to such grossly understaff a busy location. It turned what could have been a very brief travel experience into a day long time sink, preventing us from being able to keep our plans for the day.

Yesterday we arrived at Maui to take part in a marathon event as usual and were waiting for a pick up track at the usual place to the northwestern side of the airport to rent a Hertz rent-a-car. But no matter how long we were waiting, the track never showed up. I felt it strange and found out that there has been built a tram station (!) right in front of the arrival exit of the airport. Car rental system has been completely renewed and the state-of-art complex has been constructed. We can now ride the tram and go to the totally brand-new offices. It was fantastic! But I thought that the reparters to Maui Island should be careful not to wait for the bus like us.Talking of Hertz, the office is, not surprisingly, clean and the staff responded quickly and interacted with a big smile. Weve rented a Chevy convertible and its quite comfortable, feeling Hawaiian breeze and sunshine and hearing the sound of waves and winds while driving.

This location picked up the slack when the off airport Hertz location I teamed from closed due to a no show from an employee. A Hertz employee “Pisa”from the airport location picked me and other renters up and dropped us off at the airport location. She apologized for the failure of the other location and assured us of our rental status (we had concerns due to wide reports of car shortages). Check in was pretty fast (at 12 noon) and I was in and out within 10 minutes. Thanks!

With the new rental center at OGG, I had high expectations, but was I wrong. I am a gold customer and am used to just getting a text when I land to tell me the stall for my cars location. Not this time. I arrived at the gold counter and was 4th in line. 55 minutes later it was my turn! During this time they only had one person working. Another customer told the employee to call a supervisor to come and help, but the employee ignored this. When it was my turn. The employee was incensed by my frustrations. I have never felt more like an inconvenience by a company I am spending money at in many, many years. I believe Hertz should provide some discount or at minimum, an apology for this kind of wait and behavior. I will stick with them for a bit longer, but if this happens again, I think they should be in permanent bankruptcy, as it would be well earned.

The new rental car facility is much more organized than the previous setup. We were in and out in about 10 minutes and the building was set to comfortable cool temperature. Finding the vehicle was a smooth process and the staff was friendly and fast. We were on to our adventure in no time at all. And having a hybrid vehicle option felt great.

When we arrived, the manager of this location, Rick, was outside greeting guests. As they were social distancing and only allowing one customer into the glass enclosure for Gold Members at a time. Rick pointed me in the direction the SUV that I rented. When I asked him about an upgrade, he was able to help me out with a brand new Infiniti for the week we spent on Maui. Awesome manager and awesome car. Will definitely be using this location again when I return to Maui.

This Hertz is pretty small as far as airport locations go.Like most Hertz locations, there is a Gold section and Gold members can pick any car they want in the section. I always seem to be able to get a nicer car when this option is available. This Gold section didnt have any cross over cars like most others do though.Its located in a parking garage. The garage has a very nice bathroom. Theres a tram that takes you there from the terminal. Its also only about a 10 minute walk. We walked one of the times and it was a pain to figure out how to cross the tracks.All of my points are with Hertz, so theyre always my car rental choice. We had no issues with the car here.

We initially booked a Toyota Corolla for our trip. When we arrived I asked to be upgraded to a Jeep Wrangler. The attendant was very helpful and upgraded us right away. We were there pretty early in the morning and her personality was extremely positive. She was happy for us that we chose the Wrangler. She also went above and beyond to recommend a few attractions for our trip. The booking agent that morning showed us a wonderful welcome to Maui.The only down fall is turning in the vehicle was a bit too rushed. But the woman holding the tablet checking us in had a great attitude and asked if we had a good trip.

We had a great experience with this location, the lady at the front desk was very helpful and the car was in amazing condition. I booked the package of hotel+flight+rental online through a 3rd party. I opted out from insurance but when we came to pick up the car we decided to add the insurance just in case. Also we upgraded our car and got a red Chevrolet Camaro, which looked awesome but I personally couldn’t drive it as an inexperienced driver so I had to let my husband drive it all the time, cause he is a professional 😒Also if you are planning to go to mountains please don’t consider a Camaro or any low sports car, its great for going to beach or city. First of all, while off-roading you can scratch it or damage the bottom and pay extra for damage. Secondly, if you are planning trips like Road to Hana, Haleakala, etc, it is not recommended because most of the road is covered with rocks and pits, very rough. Just go with an SUV, for example Jeep Wrangler,great option for the city and off-roading both👍, especially if the roof can open.

I will not ever rent a car from hertz again.I had a prepaid trip to Maui and the rent-a-car was paid for .I let them know I would fill the tank before returning the car.I filled the tank right before the airport.I returned it with a full tank that cost me 33 dollars.They said everything was fine and I could go on my way when the car was returned.The next day after being back from my trip I checked my account and saw they charged me 64.00 for gas when I returned it full.I was absolutely furious !What a scam..after I’m out of the state.I called immediately and told them that was fraud and that I returned it with a full tank like I always do.I didn’t save recites or any of the paper work.Now I will.They were pretty nice about it and did whatever research they said they did and said they would refund me 58.00.Ive never had this problem and I’ve traveled to Hawaii with a package many times.I didn’t pay anything after dropping the car off.I will not ever use Hertz again...they were just hoping I didn’t notice.They charged 64.00 to fill the tank when I filled it for 30.00.I don’t think I will return to Maui anytime soon.Absolutely will not ever use Hertz again!

I wish I could give no stars. This was the ONLy bad experience I had on Maui. We paid the car back in September (six months before we landed in Maui) I was told we wouldn’t have to pay for anything more. I have screenshots of everything. When we got off our 9 hour flight we walked over to pick up our car. We were told she needed a deposit, I expressed that I’ve paid $430 for the car for the week. Nevertheless, we let them hold $600 deposit. The car had ants in it. Other than that it was fine. Now we return the car and get a Receipt for $602. We didn’t have time to argue with someone as we had to get the airport for our flight back. I got on the phone as soon as we got home. Come to find out they were charging us $400 for a smoking fee, neither of us smoke!!! Then they added in these extra insurance fees that apparently we signed for but I know at the desk I told her no insurance anything. We had our own and called to verify that it would be covered. When we signed the little pad we had no idea that she added in these fees. So I’ve spent the last week on the phone everyday with custom care and they have the WORST customer service. They won’t refund a dime. They claim we signed for these charges and they detected smoke. It cost $1468 for a car for 7 days! Please do not give them your time! Go elsewhere!

Very frustrating experience @ Gold counter at the OGG airport.They refused to accept printed QR code, negative Covid test and check out form from airport screeners. They insisted on an electronic version only. There is no WIFI @Gold counter and we could not access our computer .We felt unwelcomed and harrassed .There is no common sense!

Terrible service. Beware of “helpful” upgrades. Rented two vehicles for Xmas holiday week. Reserved cost for both - < $1,000 total.One was available when I arrived, the other took over an hour - during which time the staff insisted I needed a larger car - for $1,700/week!!! Told them I just wanted the cars I ordered. Meanwhile I had 11 family members including a disabled child out in the heat waiting.for this to be resolved. A complete mess.After returning the vehicle that they wanted to charge $1,700, they reluctantly adjusted the bill back to the original contracted rate.Desk personnel and supervisors need re-training.

My wife and I vacationed in Maui recently and loved the way we were treated by the Kahului International Airport Hertz staff. Our car was cleaned, gassed up, and had a great GPS/entertainment system. Our confidence in Hertz is great as they know how to take care of us.

Ive rented from Hertz a number of times and things have been fine but on a recent trip to Maui we had some issues about our reservation that caused me to interact with the companys customer service department, and it has been a total disaster. The level of incompetence and complete lack of respect for my time and money is truly mind boggling. I caution anyone renting from Hertz, things are good until theyre not - and when something doesnt go right - watch out because youre in for a journey down the twisty roads of absolute aggravation!

Getting tired if not getting an American when I call and ask for one. Getting tired of reservation bring cancelled without my knowledge. Getting tired of dealing with this but know its probably not any better at other rental companies.You responded, but your email didnt come through. It was cut off, so I cant tell you anymore until I get the corrected email. I have no idea how to do that on Facebook. you need to call me. I am currently in a hotel until our bathrooms are done. I realize waiting is customary during summer in Maui, but waiting more than an hour and a half for a car?It started at the airport; apparently all but one Hertz shuttle was down, according to the shuttle driver. We waited at the airport for more than 30 minutes as shuttles for all the other rental companies came and went. When we got to the rental station, we were greeted by another long line. There were only two people working in the general rental line, and they were working at a snails pace. So much so that people in line were yelling at the employees for working slow. Like full on yelling. The manager came out of the back room to address the frustrated customers, but then went to the back again; he didnt help alleviate the slow moving line at all. When we finally got to the counter, the employee was nice, but had no sense of urgency. It was so frustrating.I rent cars multiple times a month for work and have never had a negative experience like this. My experience with Hertz had always been good, so Ill count this experience as a random dud.

The Hertz service in Kahului was friendly and very helpful when we visited Dec. 2-12, 2016. The care waiting for us had some ants crawling around the door. When my husband went to report it to the front office, an assistant came outside to bring us a new car and load all our suitcases for us. It was a quick and helpful exchange. Our return was just as easy with the attendant helping us to move our suitcases ready for the shuttle bus that arrived within a minutes. Nice service and very helpful staff. Thank you!

Very mixed feelings about this place. The guy behind the counter when we initially walked in was absolutely horrible and condescending. We then proceeded to the lot where we were supposed to ‘pick’ a car, but when we got there we saw 10 other groups waiting with no cars and when a car arrived, people would just rush towards it. Went back to the front desk, but this time to a different gentleman who was actually very pleasant. He ended up upgrading us and giving us a car from a different lot, so we were very happy. The return was incredibly easy and quick without any issues. Overall, again, mixed feelings about Hertz. We would not necessarily avoid them, but depending on the cost, would probably give a different company a try

If you dont upgrade to a more powerful vehicle your trip will be limited and you wont be able to see most parts of the island. We drove right up to the summit of the volcano no problem. Not upset with the employee but please discontinue high pressure up selling tactics company wide. Not a good experience after a 14 hour flight.We enjoyed the car and return process was quick and efficient.

Do not rent anything from this company. I feel like they are dishonest and have tried to take advantage of me. Take your business elsewhere and save the headache.I rented a car that had scratches, and dents on almost every panel of the vehicle. There was a large chunk of the foam missing from the steering wheel right where my hand grips the wheel. To make matters worse there were bugs in the car.I noted the damage before leaving and used the vehicle throughout my vacation on Maui. I did not damage the vehicle in any way while I had it. I returned the vehicle without incident and thought that was the end of my already unpleasant dealings with Hertz.Almost 6 months later they came after me saying that I had damaged their already beat up vehicle and wanted me to pay for repairs. This is entirely untrue and I have been fighting it since.I am extremely dissatisfied with Hertz and how they seem to do business.

Car was ready, as requested, and as confirmed in email with space location (a very nice service). My understanding was that it would have car seats installed, which it did not. Had to walk to office, talk to clerk and get seats. Were told they could not (by law or liability?) install them. Sent them over to the car with an employee since a I had a very young child with me and could not carry seats and hold childs hand. Car was fine, no problems. Return was easy with no problems. Bus to/from airport was fine with little waiting. Only complaint is website where you reserve either says seats will be in car when you arrive (and at least implies they will be installed) but they were not in the car or installed.

Pretty good this time, better than usual. I was first off the shuttle bus which helped. I actually got the mid size car I had requested and it was clean and almost new. The agent told me it would be about a 15 minute wait for the car, and thats what it was. But other times there has been a line of between 10 and 30 customers, only 2-3 clerks, and each transaction averages about 5 minutes. Some clerks are friendly, others seem to be tired of their jobs. It usually helps to smile and treat them nicely. Those jobs cant be a lot of fun. Its also helpful to know the ropes and to spend a couple of minutes taking pictures from all angles with your cell phone, with close-ups of any damage. This records the date as proof of the cars condition when you drive off. I have also used Budget and Alamo at Kahului but service was somewhat worse.

Were gold members and our name was up on the board when we arrived, and the car was ready for pick-up! It was a fantastic, reliable, and sturdy car, especially for drives up to Haleakala. The reservation process was a breeze and the drop-off was quick and simple. Shuttle to and from airport was very convenient; the wait times for shuttle for both trips was about 10 minutes; not bad at all.

My wife keeps getting receipts for someone else. We do not use Hertz and this issue confirms my feelings. The first one came about 3 weeks ago and I spoke to someone in the office and assured me that that is was a mistake in the email address. I was concerned that the intended person would not get their receipt. the email that was sent to my wife was the correct email address for her but the intended person email was correct as displayed but obviously it is going to the wrong person. I would have thought that after my call, they would have corrected the mistake. guess not. Thats why I use Enterprise.

Picking up the auto was fast and efficient but there was no vehicle inspection at that time. We drove directly to our hotel, car was in valet, we did move to self park later in the week, and once out we noticed the rear bumper was hit (hit and run) and we would be held liable. We stopped by Hertz and the agent notice there was tape on the bumper which indicates previous damage, that was a huge relief as our deductible was $500. I would highly recommend you inspect the car prior to leaving the lot. The car was a Mazda 3, perfect for 2 people and has a lock-able trunk, good gas mileage, easy to drive and park, rates were good too.

Im a Gold member and my name was on the board with the stall #.. the key was ready inside the car and car was ready to go.. I didnt have to fall in line or wait... I purchase the insurance so Im worry free.. and they have a very good rate compared to other rental companies.. guaranteed Ill be renting again from Hertz and highly recommended.

For the most part I had a pleasant experience with Hertz. The initial wait to get my car took a little bit, but there were quite a few people picking up. The car was a nice and clean when I received it. BUT, later on I found gum on the floor of the car and it got on my shoe. It had been smear all over the floor that I didnt notice when I got in the car.Other than that the car drove great and the drop off was quick and easy.

We always rent from Hertz when we visit Maui. They are very friendly and helpful. When the attendant noticed I was using a cane, he went and brought the car to us instead of us having to walk around the lot trying to find it. We felt it was very reasonably priced; a SUV for under 40.00 per day! We couldnt be happier with the car, the service, both arriving and departing.

Had the best help on Maui at Hertz! Those at the Hertz rental desk were first rate, kind and helpful. I joined the Gold plan and all was a breeze, I recommend it. Good pickup experience. Car (sedan) in good shape.BTW - The location shown is wrong for rental car return (it is off by about half a mile). Just google directions from the Google Maps pinned location to the car return address 850 W Mokuea Pl, Kahului, HI and you will see what I mean. The pinned location depicts the Hertz shuttle pickup point.

Extremely sneaky reservations staff. I tried to extend my rental by 4 days (to 18 from 14) and they quoted me roughly double the cost for total rental which included a higher rate for the days I already had reserved. Then refused to honor my original reservation. Clearly wanted to get out of my original reservation. I will not use this company again.

And of course the one car you wanted just ran out I think next time hell rent a moped or buy a bike from Walmart and give it to a hobo when I leave that would be a lot easier and a lot less stressful and so much cheaper

I’m a gold member, and upon arrival at the Maui airport Hertz location, we had to wait one hour for our car. When we asked about it, the clerk told us “everybody is complaining about that”; great answer... When leaving, they tried charging us an extra $70. There is a late arrival charge when you return, which is a ridiculous nickel and dime charge for what is supposed to be a top notch company. Luckily we had enough time to get the manager to refund the difference. Make sure you check your bill before you leave!

For some reason, but shuttle bus picking us up at arrival was delayed without explanation or apology for more than 30 minutes. Other than that minor issue, the entire rental process went smoothly and our car was exactly what we needed on the island.Drop-off when leaving went very smoothly.

Hertz Maui Airport is your usual very efficient Hertz operation. My pickup takes me normally 10 minutes or less (at the counter) while return is also quick. They have several yellow buses running so you never wait long for a ride. Hertz cars are usually in much better condition mechanically than all other rental car companies and their cars are definitely cleaner. I rent cars very frequently and prefer Hertz.

What a great experience! The bus was waiting to take us to the off site location. Our name was on the ready board and a kind person took us to the car. She even helped load the bags in the trunk! On our return, the line was nonexistent and the paperwork done instantly. Three minutes later, we were back at the airport ready to check in. No problem!

Normal poor car rental experience. Over booked, shuttle driver rude, had to wait 30 min for the car to be washed/cleaned, plus its Hawaii so they dont actually care all that much. And Im a Gold member, which was allegedly important to the person at the counter before she sent me outside to wait.

I dread picking up rental cars in Hawaii because the wait its always very long. We went to the Hertz counter at the Maui airport. They had numerous customer service reps ready to go. We were helped right away. Our paperwork was ready to go. We were in and out in three minutes.

Had a shortage of help in Honolulu airport to get car upon arrival. Shuttle bus driver at Maui airport was not or friendly. Check-in at both airports was very easy and good. Vehicles were good. Lady at the pick up desk in Maui was very helpful and friendly.

After I had an aweful experience with a cheaper rental company, Hertz gold member service outshines. It does not cost to be a gold member. Just download app and sign in. You get to choose out of any available gold member cars. I made a reservation for a smaller car and got lucky enough to be able to choose a bigger car. If you made a reservation in advance, just choose a car and drive out. Show your license and credit card on the way out. They do not attempt to charge you more and it could actually cost less than value rental companies.

My last hertz experience in Maui exceeded my expectations. Dropping off my car in a rush to catch my flight I left my glasses in the car. Made it to the bus transfer and while waiting to depart a service lady brought my glasses to me. At the time I had no idea I left my one pair of reading glasses in the car. So grateful, she not only noticed I left them but she made the extra effort to bring them to me! Mahalo!!

Hertz / Kahului Airport is great for pick-up...but dont schedule something late at night unless you plan to get hooked for repairs you didnt cause. I picked up at 12:55am and it wasnt until 3 days later that I noticed a huge bank of scratches on the front bumper. I called and was told dont worry about it; well handle it when you return it. Oh, they handled it all right...by telling me it would have to go through MY insurance. (Fortunately I used American Express to pay so itll be covered but thats not the point.)Do NOT take their word for it. Check your car at first light. If theres an issue, TAKE IT BACK. Do NOT just call. Make them acknowledge it and get it documented or youll get burned...like I did...for something you didnt do.

Im a flight attendant and travel the world, but this is by far the best experience. I actually had a another friend come join us and she also experienced the same level of customer service. The Hawaiian staff here are the best in the World! I rented an SUV and the service was great! They went out of their way to ensure my trip was comfortable and I felt good. That really meant a lot to me! Mahalo. Please be sure to treat the staff nice and they will treat you the same. Beware that the lines are generally long at pickup times, plan for that. There are two locations for Hertz, this is the one closest to the airport and a shuttle must be taken to it, dont wait in line if you booked at the other. The other, you must get to by cab I think.
