Highly recommend renting with Maui ECO Rental Cars! Competitive pricing, fast and responsive customer service, and awesome mission statement. Much more personable and thoughtful than the big corporate competitors. I would definitely come back!
So legit. Made a reservation for the end of July. The whole process was super easy - mostly done through text, the car was waiting for us - no need to wait in lines or deal with counters. Very reasonable price plus the Prius we used lasted us the whole week on one tank (we drove a lot too). Will definitely use them again for the next trip.
This is a great company! We rented their Prius for the week and the entire process was super smooth. Picked up and dropped off the car at the airport. The price is super reasonable and you can feel good about the company youre supporting since you get a car that is more eco-friendly. The people who work there are SO nice too. We actually forgot our charger in the car and they shipped it back to us so they really went above and beyond.
Nicest people I ever worked with. Had the car for 2 weeks and because the battery recharges and I was on a hill I only spent $30 to fill the tank. I love that the money goes to save the cats too !
Best car rental experience ever. So fast and easy. Picked us up at the airport in just a few minutes and drop off couldn’t have been more convenient. We really appreciated the use of boogie boards and books. The Prius was easy to park in small spots and got great mileage. Perfect Maui car.
An excellent option if you are visiting Maui by cruise ship. Bio Beetle was friendly and easy to deal with. The Jettas we rented ran great and used very little fuel. They threw in lots of extras like coolers and beach chairs. Their office is within walking distance of the pier, although the pedestrian walkway is very long so it ends up being a little over a mile. They will also allow you to park overnight no charge and the bio diesel filling station is around the corner from their office. Overall a great value and very convenient!
My Mom and I used Bio-Beetle last year for our trip to Maui. Loved the whole idea. Process was easy, we loved that we could request things to be left in the car so we could use them during our trip. I am a huge animal person so knowing proceeds were benefiting animals was an even bigger bonus. We would for sure use them again.
We were able to reserve our Prius easily. The price was competitive. We were picked up at the airport within 5 minutes of calling. Pam was very down to earth and helped us appreciate how our rental vehicle choice contributed to the preservation of Maui. Our car was in good condition, gassed up and ready to go. Pam offered to lend us coolers and boogie boards at no charge. The car functioned well and was adequate for the 4 of us and beach gear.
Dont be put off by the initial appearance of the office location. Pam provides very well maintained cars that are spotlessly clean and ready to drive. Our car was even provided with a small cooler so we could pack a lunch and a couple of drinks. Great service and Pam even returned us to our cruise ship in a Nissan Leaf electric car. Well definitely be back.
We had such a great experience with Bio Beetle! Shaun picked us up just five minutes after we got to Maui. The car was clean and you really cant beat the gas mileage on a Prius. Not having to worry about catching a shuttle was also great, as Shaun drove us right back to the airport when we were heading home. Awesome car at an awesome value. We will definitely be using Bio Beetle again!
This company was excellent and the car we had with them was fantastic. Not only did it perform amazingly well but it cost about the same as the big companies with one difference, it barely used any fuel. As fuel it quite expensive in Hawaii, this was a bit plus. The staff I spoke with, and corresponded with via email, were polite, efficient and prompt with their responses. They also threw in a cooler and boogie boards for use!I will definitely be renting with them next time I am on Maui.
The sweetest and most down to earth friendly people I have ever met. Very reasonable prices and they give all their money to helping animals. If you are looking for a rental near OGG Bio Beetle is a MUST. :) Also loved the cats.
Bio Beetle was the absolute best pick for our car rental in Maui. We rented a Bio-Jetta and opted for the airport pickup service, which was incredibly reasonable. Instead of waiting in line at the traditional rental car service, we walked straight to the parking lot and were on our way. The car was clean and well serviced. The diesel engine was so much fun to drive. It was such a unique experience. The gas mileage was so good, we didnt need to fill up once. We used about half a tank in six days- even after the infamous Drive to Hana. Pam was kind enough to loan us boogie boards, a cooler and reusable shopping bags. Drop-off was quick and easy, much easier than any corporate rental. Highly recommended to anyone looking for affordable, eco-friendly transportation.
This place is great. I used them a couple times to get a car in Maui and I wish that they were available on other islands. Ive used the prius C and the leaf. The prius C will most like get you through a 4 day stay on a single tank and the Leafs limited range is surprisingly not an issue with the abundance of quick chargers. Their prices are very reasonable and it feels good to support a green, local business!
Renting from Bio-Beetle allowed me to feel good about the necessary evil of renting a car on Maui. I wasnt looking for a fancy car, just something reliable and comfortable to get a few people around during vacation. The biodiesel Jetta I rented fit the bill: it drove just fine; had great gas mileage; the a/c worked well; and the trunk had lots of room for the beach umbrellas, foam noodles, and boogie boards that Bio-Beetle lent me. The rental process was just as convenient as using one of the major rental companies but it had a delightful personal touch! Being picked up at the airport and dropping the car off at the airport made everything hassle-free. If you want a pristine late-model car you might be disappointed. I was happy to drive a not-fancy car and enjoy the fringe benefits: supporting a local business; encouraging local cooking oil recycling initiatives, helping fund a cat sanctuary, and minimizing waste (free loan of beach supplies/toys)!
Super easy and a great way to rent a car. We would have rented a Leaf, but unfortunately our condo had no nearby charging, and at the time there were no good charging options an Hana, so we stuck with the Prius, which gave us exellexce mileage and value. If were ever in Maui again, well definitely use Bio Beetle, and hopefully by then theyll have the Chevy Bolt available, since thatvwoyth completely cover any conceivable round trip on the island.
My Go-To car rental place on Maui for 3+ years!! This is a guilt-free no-brainer for those who care at all about ones own impact on the island and the planet. Youre in paradise, right? So why not treat the place like its just that? Very friendly, local, low-key, non-corporate people who actually care more about doing good for their island than just making a profit and some uncaring shareholder somewhere happy. We just rented the new 18 Leaf and it rocks, with a +150 mile range!! There are free charging stations in Wailea and Kaanapali and more are no-doubt on the way. Plus, the car is just great fun to drive. And no tailpipe exhaust or trips to the gas station! Check em out!
Took a couple of phone calls to get booked, but zero issues after. They picked us up quickly from the airport in our Prius C. Car was clean, no smell, etc. We drove to their place to sign the paperwork and they lent us a small cooler and boogie boards. Within minutes we were on our way. Car functioned great. We drove the entire island (road to Hana, all the way around through the south side/Upcountry, around Northwest Maui--much scarier than the road to Hana, haha--and to the Haleakala summit and back) and the car handled it all completely fine. When we got to the airport on Sunday, we left the car and the keys there and a voicemail saying where we parked it. I was a little nervous about whether theyd find it--a text confirming on Monday woulda been nice--but since I havent heard otherwise, I assume they got it with no issues. :) Would definitely rent from them again.
What a great company. Talk the talk and walk the walk. Have used them many times on Maui.
Fantastic service, airport parking lot arrival/departure makes it invaluable; however, the personal interaction by the owners makes it worth even more.
Pam Wolf has a heart of gold rescuing all the cats. There needs to be more people like her.
Called on Sunday left a message to ask for rates, No call back so far. Are they closed?
Yeah, that was great. Ive never had a hybrid / electric / biodiesel car before and thats why I really wanted to try the small company. We finally decided to buy the biodiesel VW Jetta, as the Nissan Leaf (electric) is not recommended for driving on the volcano or the Road to Hana (range problem). The car is quite old, but also cheap. The air conditioning takes about 5min until it runs, that was with us despite the hot weather but never a problem. The Jetta also has two other advantages:1. Since he is rather old, does not belong to a large rental car company and has the big biodiesel logo on it, he is less prone to car burglaries, which should be very common in Hawaii. You look like a local, with less burglary.2. One is certainly asked once a day on whether the car is really because with recycled frying oil and then can proudly answer Yes, it does! Was the biggest for me as a sustainability crack: DThe two owners are very helpful in lending out free bodyboards / snorkeling gear / travel books. The car change would have been possible without any problems.Absolutely recommended!PS: The owners give the range with well over 400 miles, but with a bit of Eco-Drive you can go much further! Also worth mentioning: The biodiesel is more expensive than normal gasoline, we have paid about $ 40 for about 80% of the tank. But who does not want to drive with frying instead of petroleum, to save a few dollars, which is not to help ;-)
