Frank is a very fun and interesting person to talk to. We had an excellent experience. He picked us up at the airport and we didn’t have to wait. The car met our needs nicely. Not new or fancy but functioned well and the price is definitely right. We didn’t have to worry as much about the car being broken into as it doesn’t look like the usual tourist rental, more like a local vehicle. That was nice.. We come often as we own a place on Maui and have used most of the usual rental companies previously as we weren’t aware of Frank’s existence. Glad we are now. Will definitely rent from Frank for all our future visits

We were very satisfied with our car rental. The AC worked great which was very important to us and the car was clean (with a bit of an old car smell but that wasn’t a problem for us). We had an older Rav4 (2012-2013?) with some dents and scratches as we expected. All of the dents, scratches, etc. were already marked down on the paperwork. The pick up, drop off, paperwork and payment process was very easy. Frank’s customer service was fantastic. We appreciate the fair price Frank gave us just one month prior to our rental needs. We will definitely use Frank again.

Our vacation in Maui over the past two weeks was awesome. We were only able to do everything that we wanted due to the fact that we found Frank’s Car Rentals. The island was so busy that it was almost impossible to find a reasonable rate for a vehicle. Frank solved that problem and gave us customer service that I thought no longer existed. He picked us up at the airport in our rental and delivered us back there for our departure. He helped us to plan excursions, through his knowledge of the island, that we’d not experienced before when visiting Maui. The age of the vehicle was never an issue. We rented from Frank in April. Franks a great guy and very entertaining. The car was an older Toyota Camry but ran straight and true and at an economical price. We were very pleased and have referred several others to Frank. Already planning our next trip and Frank is on my call list.

Frank was easy to work with and picked us up at the airport and dropped us off which was wonderful. The car was a 2008 Toyota Rav 4 and it was wonderful, loved driving this car and it was perfect for Maui. This is not a place for a fancy rental car as the car wasnt clean but it was perfect for us and the price was terrific. We had to end our stay earlier than we anticipated and Frank refunded the difference promptly. We will definitely be renting from Frank again. Highly recommend.

I did a 2 month rental from Franks and was very satisfied with my experience . While the car was not new it ran well, AC worked great and I had no problems at all with it. I did bring it in monthly so it could be checked over. If your looking for a reasonably priced vehicle to rent Franks is the place to go.

Just confirmed our rental car with Frank for our return to Maui in January. Once again a seamless experience! This will be the 7th or 8th year that we have used Franks. I booked a car for my husband for his 7 week stay on Maui back in September. As requested by Frank I call the day before the departure to confirm the reservation and give him the credit card info. Great, all set, there is a lot to do now before going to the islands. The car is set. Frank said for him to call after he gets his bags and they will pick him up. My husband calls and they say they don’t have his reservation. My husband calls me. I’m thinking I have him the wrong number, so I call and talk to Frank. He tells me they won’t rent to him and have canceled his reservation. They had already charged his card! I asked why? Frank told me he didn’t need a reason! Frank has left him at the Maui airport with no car and no reason why!! So if you don’t want to have this awful experience happen on your vacation, look for your rental car somewhere more reputable!! We are in shock!! We have been going to Maui for the last 40 years and never had anything close to this happen!

I am a travel agent looking for car rental for the fall, when i emailed in i asked several questions which were not answered, when i finally called in to talk to someone the person on the phone was rude, and nasty, I am not sure how this company gets any business with the way they treat there customers, I will never ever use this company and hope no one else does

Franks Friendly always provides this service. Jack is the front-man, and he is wonderful to deal with. Franks Friendly Cars Maui Car Rental has been my ONLY car rental agency on Maui for the last five years! I was fed up with the hassles involved with renting from the major car companies and wanted to see what else was out there. I found Franks and never looked back! Not only does he assist me with my current needs (van, economy car) but I blend in with the local cars instead of becoming a target for thieves in a shiny new (tourist) car. Frank arranges for my vehicle to be waiting for me at the airport when I arrive and Im able to drop it off at the airport when I depart without the hassle of lines and shuttle buses! Frank has a great system worked out!! As I said, Ive rented from Frank for years and have never had a mechanical issue, always had cold AC and lots of room for all my stuff. I usually do some work on the condo while in Maui and appreciate having the room to carry whatever I may need at the time. Since I have been burned by Major rental companies (NOT Franks) in the past, I always photograph my rental car from every angle before driving away to eliminate any question about scratches or dents which may be present and mark them down to protect myself as well as Franks. If you look at some of his reviews on this or other websites you may find those who do not appreciate Franks sense of humor or are expecting fancy cars with all the bells and whistles even though they are renting a car from a used car rental agency. They are welcome to spend a LOT more $, maybe drive a sports car, but dont spoil it for the rest of us who depend on this company and appreciate the hard work Frank does to maintain his fleet, by posting nasty comments about something Frank said or the way he sounded on the phone! We are all human and have our days. We need to support small businesses like Franks Friendly Cars on Maui, I know I do and will continue to recommend him to others as well!

We have rented cars from Franks for several years and are planning to do so again in 2020. The cars may be used, but they have always been in good working order. The one time we had a problem, Frank took care of it immediately. His system is efficient, and we relish being able to walk right out of the airport, into the parking lot, and into our vehicle. Frank’s rental cars is a really affordable and great service on the island. He makes it easy to pick up and drop off the car (either at the airport or right nearby) and he’s very responsive should there be any issues with the cars. I rented for 4 months and it was a positive experience.

How has the better business bureau not taken these guys down? These cars advertised on the website are not only disgusting, dirty & old. But reading the rest of the reviews it seems as if they dont clean them, and have broken glass inside?? Unbelievable.. NOT TO MENTION the customer service is JUNK, I highly recommend Maui Car Rental. Were lucky to be able to stay in Maui for just over a month each winter, so cost is a big consideration. Franks cars are by far the most affordable. They arent new cars, but are well maintained and run great. Ive rented from Frank for the last three years and will continue to. Frank arranges pick-up and drop-off and its always worked just fine. Anyone who has rented a car from one of the large agencies should rethink their choice, and rent from Frank. Not only are the prices fantastic, but the service was great. Frank actually met us at the airport, though the car you rent is usually parked in airport parking. The car was an older Pontiac Vibe, clean as a whistle, everything worked well, great on mileage, and the arrangements for picking up and returning save you a couple of hours of your vacation, since Frank, the owner, has really organized a simple system, so no waiting at one of the usual outlets.Frank is a prince, his cars are great, give him a try and have fun in the meantime.

Theres only one word I can think of to describe Frank, and that word is ..warm. Id heard of the aloha spirit of the islands but until I met Frank I didnt really know what it was all about. Why havent we rented from Franks before!! Low price, easy pick and and drop off and friendly service. This car had all we needed, room for beach supplies, snorkeling and air conditioning! We will definitely use Franks again.

I wish there was a Frank’s in every city. The rental car was exactly as described, worked without a hitch, and was reasonably priced. The pickup/drop off experience was way more convenient than a typical rental car. He is a total hoot on the phone and gives specific instructions for every step so there is no confusion- just follow his instructions and everything will go great! The icing on the cake was that I rescheduled my incoming flight and he made it work!

First trip to Hawaii, first experience with Franks Friendly Car rental ... both were better than expected! I was wondering how Frank could pull it off - the far lower rates and convenience. He did it. Our car was a 2004 Pontiac model that looked every bit like a local vehicle, which I appreciated in getting around the island and parking unpretentiously. The vehicle was dependable, reasonably clean (Its an island beach car!), priced well below any of the mainline rentals, and I found it refreshing to be working directly with the owner of the company. Frank provided personal service, easy access to/from the vehicle, and as advertised, a friendly attitude! We will return in 2016, at which time well definitely be looking to rent again from Friendly Frank!

If youre OK with a slightly older car (that will look more local), Franks is hard to beat. Super convenient pickup/dropoff in airport lot with no lines, and a super price. You must give Frank a ring to make the rental, but this too is very easy and often entertaining. Highly recommended.

Read some previous reviews about Frank being not the most gracious person. I found him to be honest, down to earth (no BS), direct, and very accommodating. Vehicles are older but they do the job. Had a 2002 Lexus SUV. Worked great except for noise from the air conditioner compressor, which I pointed out to Frank. He may seem abrasive to some but I prefer to overlook that for his honesty. Very fast rental. Dont have to stand at a counter for an hour filling out forms and having to put up with high pressure sales for extra insurance. My rental was handled over the phone and built on trust. Reminds me of the times you could do deals on a hand shake. Well done Frank. Will use Frank again and again.Also has probably the best prices on the island.

We have rented 7 cars from Frank in the past four years and have always been satisfied, First, picture this: Most times you get your baggage and the car is there---no wait! We have rented cars from Frank repeatedly and have enjoyed our cars. We had a starter motor that failed on one car which Frank repaired within 24 hours while we drove a loaner. We rented a car from Frank for the second time.Last year was our first time renting from Frank, but honestly, I dont see us ever going anywhere else!His service was fast and friendly. The day we got in it was raining a little bit. When I called to see where the car was parked (as instructed) Frank told me they didnt want us to have to wander around in the rain looking for the car. He proceeded to let us know he would be right over and what car too look for. Five minutes later there he was!The paper work was waiting in the glove box, we took it to the post office on our way to our apartment and that was it! We called the day before we left met Frank and he kindly drove us to the airport!No more long lines at the big rental companies ever!If youre looking for a super new car, this is not the place for you, but if youre looking for basic island transportation with the ability to carry surf boards and such look no further!Ive seen some people think Frank is rude. Obviously they have no sense of humor. Frank has a very dry, very entertaining sense of humor. If you get your feelings hurt by the way he speaks then by all means go pay way too much for your rental car.

Throughout the last 10 years we have been fortunate enough to enjoy annual visits to Maui - each lasting 3 - 4 weeks. Initially we rented cars through the big rental agencies. However we soon recognized that we were not always driving the car each day. In fact multiples days would go by and the car wouldnt leave the condo parking lot and yet we were still paying the high daily rental fee from the big rental agency.Three years ago a friend recommended Frank to us. Now for three consecutive years we have used Frank - his car fleet is slighter older than what you could rent from the big rental agencies. However the age of Franks cars allows him to rent them for considerably less. The cars are not perfect - there may be a scratch here and there but they look like the cars that the locals drive. A key advantage is the pickup / drop off process. Frank will instruct you where to find your car in the airport parking lot. Simply grab your bags and go to where Frank told you and then drive from the airport - no buses! Similar process for departing; park the car in the pre-defined airport parking lot location and then walk into the airport.Frank is particular and takes the time to ensure his instructions are understood. He provides low cost and reliable rental cars (Dodge Vibes / Toyota Highlander...) that work well for our family needs. Next year we will be using Frank again!

We got what was promised. A good running beater with good ac that was waiting for us on Thanksgiving day. Not pretty to look at but it had the right price for our month long stay.It fit right in with the locals. Frank also let me do a late drop with out charging for an extra day. This was greatly appreciated since we were on a red-eye.

If I could give no stars I would! This was the worst experience Ive ever had with a car rental company EVER! And especially Maui. I made my reservations back on Jan 26th, 2018 for a trip in Sept 2018. My first conversation went well. But from then on it was horrible. I was to call the day before which I did as instructed and was greeted with the rudest person ever. He was not only rude, he was condescending and sarcastic! When we landed I called again as instructed to find the location of the car. It was difficult to hear him so I asked if he could speak up. He proceeded to shout and ask if I was deaf and could hear him now! With that said we husband went to locate the car which when he drove up to pick me at at the curb, he was shaking his head with total disapproval. Not only was the car dinged, dented, dirty, it had broken glass in the console between the seats and was leaking a fluid from the front. When we called to ask for help, we were told the car WAS cleaned prior to us picking it up. Then the best part, he said find just go re-park the car and they would reimburse our money MINUS the $100 deposit. When asked could we get another car we were told NO! NO, really!!! They left us stranded on our first day of our wedding vacation and that was it. No apology no nothing. I would NEVER EVER rent from these guys again. I am so disappointed they didnt even try to make it right. So please for your own good dont ever rent from these guys.

He met us right at the airport when we arrived and since our returning flight was late at night he had an easy way to have us just leave our car in the airport parking lot. Everything was simple. And of course the car ran great.Id definitely rent with Frank again and Ill be telling my friends to do so to.

Wow that in itself is ironic, thank your frank for you time and help.. or lack there of. You’re lucky google makes me give a 1 star review, because I’d like to give a -5 star review. Frank is a kick. His cars are all friendly, Frank, will tell you that. Its Franks Friendly Cars. Frank, on the other hand, is just a unique character. His cars are excellent, older cars that let you blend into the Aloha scene. Prices are good and service is excellent. I have been coming to Maui for many years to my Condo near Lahaina, and Frank has never disappointed me... just follow his directions for easy pick up and return at the airport.

The car was FANTASTIC in that it is an island car and made me look and feel like I LIVED in Maui which I loved. We have been using Frank and his cars for more than 5 years now. Theyre older cars but in good working condition, just what we like. We fit into the local Maui scene. Frank meets us at the airport and we drive him back to his place where we finish the paperwork and then were on our way. Never had a problem.

Really torn with this rental. One one hand the car was okay, and we never had one issue with it. With that and the amazing weekly rate made the rental very nice.HOWEVER!!!Everyone please be aware that they dropped the car off at the air port and never really told us where it was parked short of Over by the baggage check in area. We had to search for about 20 minutes to find our car. At one point we called to find out more specific details as to where it was parked and I got an ear full curse words I care not to repeat. We had to pay for the car to leave the parking zone, and we got no clear direction as to where to return the car either. Our flight left at 10:45pm, so we had no choice but to park it back where we found it in the first place. Since that parking lot charges by the hour, Im sure we will get a hefty bill on top of the rental bill for parking as well. We did not see on the back of the paper work that we were suppose to mail in the rental agreement paperwork posted marked by a specific date other wise it was a $100 fine. We filled it out, and left it with the car but who knows what will come of that. Lastly, we have been trying to call them all week leaving numerous messages, but they never called us back or answered the phone to confirm the car was returned okoverall the car was good, and the service with it was terrible. I would not recommend using this service, just because you never know what to expect

It is a great bargain! Yes, you are getting an older car with more miles, but you are getting a car for about a third of what big car rental companies charge. Frank left us a car at the airport late at night which was very, very convenient. I also have to mention that Frank was very responsive whenever we called him.

A friend and I go to Maui almost every year for windsurfing. Several years ago, we were introduced to Frank by a mutual windsurfing friend. We have been renting from him ever since. We especially like his low prices. This is possible because his cars are older than the national chains, and his off-airport facility avoids airport taxes. The older cars are reliable, and blend in better with the locals, so they do not attract unwanted attention. He provides roof racks for surfing or windsurfing. Friends turned me on to Franks Friendly Car Rental. Best deal in Maui. I needed a vehicle for hauling windsurfing gear and Frank provided a Pontiac Vibe with roof rack. Great mileage, clean and reliable. Plenty of room for sails, mast, boom, etc. and the wife could still sit in the passenger seat. Best part was the pick up and drop off. The car was parked in the general lot across the street from the terminal. Just walked over and drove away. Far better than shuttling to the rental car facility. Actually, the best, best part was the pricing. On top of everything, I left my Garmin in the car. Frank personally mailed it to me at no charge. Just incredible customer service. Thanks Frank!

My husband and I rented a car for 6 months from Frank. (1/2015. - 6/2015) After researching long term rentals in Maui, Franks rates and cars were the best!!! I stopped by Franks in person to see what he had available. I found all of his cars clean and with a local feel. He truly had a car to fit just about anyones needs. Being on the island for 6 months, we wanted to blend in with the locals. Frank is very straightforward with his expectations when renting his cars. We also got a very personal service with pick up and leaving the car at the airport, free child seat and Frank also helped us to park the car at his place when we left for the other islands for a week. When we return to Maui we will definitely rent from Frank again. FIVE STARS!!

Forget about the corporations, rent from the local company who understands your needs and actually cares about you!I have rented from Frank twice and have never been so pleased with any business before. Frank goes far and beyond to deliver what you need at your convenience. Even if you come or leave late he will make it happen for you. For the first time I actually called Frank on his day off without any reservation but he still managed to get a nice car for me that same day. I have never seen businesses being customer oriented to such a degree!Ive built a trustworthy relationship with Frank and if Im on Maui I will rent only from him.

Been to Maui 15 times rented a car every time, from the BIG guys, to Many other locally owned businesses. I would stay with the local businesses and the one I pick would be friendly frank. He is hands down the best. If you want the latest sport ute, a shiny new smelling car, franks is not for you. Want something that fits in, looks local, runs great, might have a few scratches.... Franks. A low profile but good deal, great service. Simple.

Great experience! Our car was older, had 150,000 miles on it but it drove well. I also loved the fact he just left the car at the airport and we would call him when we got off the plane and he would tell us how yo get the car. I would of paid the same amount of the major car companies to avoid the long wait and lines. He is awesome and friendly to deal with.

Never been treated so rude in my life! Called and was pleasantly surprised to get a person so late. I said wow no automated system.... Frank said oh you wanted an automated system let me get you to it AND HUNG UP ON ME..... DONT GIVE HIM A PENNY!

Avoid This Merchant! The business is not professional. They are rude and use profanity towards the customer. If any problem arises with your car rental you will be sorry you ever dealt with this merchant. They act crazy on the phone. They act crazy in person. Something is seriously wrong with the personnel at this business. Yes their cars are cheap. Spend a few dollars more and rent from a car rental on Maui that has the aloha spirit. Franks Mean Car rentals acts like the customer is the enemy. You will be treated like the enemy. You will be sorry you ever contacted this mean, nasty, unstable and crazy merchant. I WARNED YOU. Thank me later. They will probably respond to this Truthful review with more slander and lies. Most of the good reviews here are fake reviews they paid for. Trust me I know that for a fact.

I have been renting cars from Frank for over 5 years, usually twice a year. The cars have always been in good condition and I have had no problems. Add to this the ease of pick up and return, you have service better than the big names and at a lower cost. The cars dont scream rental car, which I think is an advantage. I would and have recommended Frank to anyone needing a decent car for use on Maui.

Our last trip to Maui, we decided to give Frank’s Friendly car rental a try. Best decision we could have possibly made! We wondered what the cars would be like and found them to be very clean and reliable. Frank went out of his way to be sure we got the size car we needed to be sure my 89 year old mother-in-law would be comfortable. Frank treated us better than some of the big rental car companies have in the past. The car was waiting for us at the airport when we came in late at night and Frank drove us to the airport after we returned the car. On the way to the airport we were discussing an item packed in our baggage that we were not sure would be allowed on the aircraft. Frank told us not to worry about it, said if we couldn’t take it onboard to just call him and he would pick it up and ship it to us. Frank is such great guy. More than just saving money, renting from Frank was an awesome experience. We wouldn’t consider renting from anywhere else in the future.

I have been using Frank’s rental cars for the last 2 years. His cars are both reliable and an affordable option for anybody visiting Maui. I usually use Frank’s cars on extended stays but I would highly recommend his cars for short term use as well. After going to Maui several times I am now pass the days of paying $$$ for an overpriced shiny red convertible. Frank’s cars gets me to all of Maui’s attractions with plenty of money saved, plus you will look like a local instead of sticking out in the typical tourist rental car. I love that the car is waiting in the short term parking lot at arrival in Maui. Although you still have to drive from the Airport to Frank’s location to sign a few papers, I find the process much more efficient than waiting on a rental car bus and the long lines at the rental agencies. I highly recommend Frank’s rental cars and I will continue using him in the future.

Horrible drive almost two hours to rent a car from them because he told me he had one ready at 2pm! Got there NO CAR!!!! NO CALL BACK! Horrible! *** I called you and the man said I would have a car when I got there. I believe we gave you our name and a card to hold the car. If not you still said there would be a car for us. We came at the time you said and no car. What else would I think? Common sense.

Frank is the quintessential man to rent a vehicle from in Maui. Look no further!! My wife (Lina) and I have been renting the same vehicle for 3 years now and we couldnt be happier! Outstanding service!!! We had a flat one time and Frank was right there to fix it. A slight misalignment was dealt with promptly!!! Great service and a reliable car for a good price. I rented for 3 months while I was on Maui for the winter. Every month, when I went down to renew my contract, Frank made sure the tires were ok, fluids good etc.

10/10, would do business with again. As other reviewers have mentioned, Franks has hands-down the best prices on the island. He also knows his vehicles inside and out, which in turn makes me feel safe and secure driving around the island. I will continue to give Frank a call to secure my Maui ride every time I visit the island!

At this point I am not sure how many years I have rented from Frank, at least 6 I would think, and each time was a great experience. He provides clear instructions on pick up and drop off, and if there is a problem, he handles it quickly. I do my next pickup on Monday, and am looking forward to driving my Bronze Beauty.

Best budget car rental company on Maui. The station wagon I rented from Frank was in very good condition, especially for an older vehicle, both inside and out. It came clean with working A/C and radio. Roof racks with pads and straps included for easy transport of surfboards. Frank is very polite and professional.

I just got verbally abused and hung up on. I called to make a reservation and before I could ask a question, I was told that Frank wasnt here. I asked if I should book online or if I could book with the person I was speaking with. I was told that the only way to book was by talking with a person. I said is that person you? to which he replied are you going to get to your point or just keep asking pointless questions? I am floored. I stated nevermind, Ill take my business elsewhere and he hung up on me! So much for trying to give a local business a chance. Id rather pay more and go with a reputable company. I find it very hard to believe there are such positive reviews for such dismal customer service. Not so friendly, Frank...might want to hire better people!

We had a great experience with Franks cars. Previous experiences with renting cars in Hawaii has led to frustrating long lines and waits upon arrival. Frank had our car waiting in the lot and ready to go. We were on the road sooner than we would have been able to get to the rental car location. It was easy to find the return location and then Frank took us to the airport and dropped us curbside. We will hope to be able to rent from Frank again and we will recommend Franks Friendly Cars to friends who travel to Maui.

I wont cover the same ground again, except to say that you wont find a better price or more convenient pick up/drop off on the island. I can assure you that this isnt a fake review. Our experience mirrors all of the other five star reviews.I am always baffled and amused by the negative reviews Frank receives. I wonder about the expectations of the unhappy customers. If you want a new car (along with a bus ride and a long line) go to Hertz or Avis. Frank is the owner and usually the only employee to deal with a fleet of cars and a bevy of customers. He is also a character. If you approach him with some respect and understanding he is easy to get along with. And he will do just about anything to insure you are satisfied. We look forward to and enjoy interacting with Frank.
