The apartments & amenities are super nice. However, the complex consistently has cars being broken into, bikes stolen, and Amazon packages stolen right after they are delivered. It really doesn’t matter whether or not you lock up your stuff, they literally tore the railing off of the stairs to steal a locked up bike. When reported to management they say they have “security” but cars are still broken into daily, packages stolen, etc. even if you lock your car, they’ve used the soft tops of some cars to get it so it really doesn’t matter. You’ll probably need to invest in your own security cameras because there are none here. When I try to post on the community wall about it, management won’t post it, probably to try and keep a good reputation. I’m literally just trying to warn people so they can prevent it from happening to them as best as they can. I love the apartment and amenities, all very nice, but you should look for a complex that has better security. Especially if you live alone or have kids.
Marcella Apartments are well updated, clean and is a lovely and quiet community where you feel safe and respected regardless of race, age or status of accomplishment. We have been residing at Marcella for over two years and we love it here, because it is clean and well-maintained. The community is within walking distance to all the local and public amenities such as the shopping center, restaurants, theater, craft and hair stores just to mention a few.Every community has their problems, but the staff here, works very hard to manage challenges as they arise within the community. Especially during Covid-19, where they did their best to accommodate residents, while trying to stay safe themselves. Some circumstances are out of their control, but they handle well, circumstances they can control. I believe they are fair with their pricing and treat their tenants like they want to be treated if the shoe were on the other foot. We are happy we have chosen Marcella as the place to live and look forward to staying a while longer. The only recommendation is to just see for yourself!!!! Smiles
I gave this place five stars for a number of reasons. Mostly what comes to mind is the quick response/work quality from the maintenance staff (weve had a few leaks in our ceiling that got fixed right away), the general cleanliness of the complex, and the space we get for the price (this two bedroom is way nicer than where we lived before). The location is also awesome! Everything we need is a five-ten minute walk away.
I was a tenant for 4 years in one of their townhomes. The front office staff and maintenance people were always great. Unfortunately, my move-out soured my entire experience. I was charged multiple fees upon move-out. I was not able to get an in-person walk-thru at the end of the lease. I do understand that COVID impacted this. It is just unfortunate that tenants can be charged for things such as light bulbs (8 dollars) and not be able to dispute until you receive a bill 30 days later. My biggest issue was being charged for 4 and half year old carpet (one spot was found in the entire townhome). I was informed that the rule is to replace the carpet at 5 years. I was disappointed because it seems that the carpet would have been replaced anyway so that they would not have inconvenience the next family several months into their lease. I had to move away for work and plan to move back to the area in the future, however, I do not think I will be a resident again. Overall, the staff was good during my time here. My move-out was just very disappointing and am sorry my time didnt end on great note.
Although the apartments are nice and spacious their move out fees are ridiculous. When moving out if you have a pet they want you to get your apartment professionally exterminated which should be done for every apartment in the 1st place and also want you to hire someone to professionally clean your carpets which should also be done by the complex as well. Like I stated before the apartments are nice but customer service isn’t always up to part. They are really nice when moving in then become slightly rude over time. Lastly, after your 1st lease is over they increase tremendously to renew. It’s really sad to know that this is how they operate during a pandemic. Beware & don’t be fooled by the nice floor plans.
I recently just moved here. The staff is really nice, the environment and community nicely decorated. The prices are actually very reasonable. The amenities are awesome as well. I really have no complaints
I recently moved into Marcella and have nothing but great reviews about this place. When I arrived I last minute requested to change apartment #s and the leasing agents graciously worked with me and got me switched that day. I give a huge thank you to Lamekia who I worked with more directly. She is phenomenal and made everything super easy for me. Hands down the best leasing agents I have worked with in VA.The apartments themselves are beautiful, especially the kitchen. The carpets are extremely clean, painted walls, high ceilings, and nice layouts. No complaints from me whatsoever and I highly recommend this place to people trying to live in Hampton, VA!
I recently toured this property and it was AMAZING! My wife and I loved the beautiful landscape. The apartments are very spacious with every amenity we were looking for. Also, I want to thank Destiny B. For giving us an incredible tour of multiple apartment styles. She was so knowledgeable and helpful! Five star service all around.
This place will try and charge you an arm and a leg when it’s time for move out. I stayed there for one year because I thought it was a great neighborhood. However upon leaving they charged me over a 1,000 for normal wear and tear on carpet. I was told that before I moved in they would but I did not listen. Take heed!!!
They basically lied to us when moving out regarding what was required to avoid fees then hounded me over a few hundred bucks for months that I refused to pay on principal. Was a tenant for several years, soured the whole experience. Id also say that tenants were loud and the ceiling / floor boundary is thin so try and not live with tenants above you or youll hear them walking all day. Bugs occasionally from other tenants would invade the apartment too. Id have given 3 stars if it werent for how unprofessionally they handled our move out.
A very good apartment complex. I have been here for over a year. The office staff is amazing. They are all very friendly and greet you by first name. The complex is pet friendly, has 2 large grills, and a pool with a lifeguard in the summers. Within walking distance of the coliseum mall and many more stores! I highly recommend this apartment complex!
Be aware that this place will they and charge you multiple fees upon mov-out. Very unprofessional!
If you want to live at a place with dog poop all over, then this is the place for you. Residents at this property do not clean up after their pets.
I lived here for about a year and a half, and it is my favorite apartment in which Ive lived. The apartments, themselves, are pretty nice and new compared to the rest of the area. Great location near shopping and restaurants as well. The front office was always very nice and helpful while I lived there. I had maintenance and other issues on a few occasions, but the front office and mainentance staff were always quick to fix any issues. In one case I had an A/C issue on a hot summer day, and maintenance brought over a portable A/C unit the same day until they could get the A/C unit fixed a day or two later.
Very nice place I have enjoyed my stay here. The grounds are always nice and the staff does repairs in a timely manner. My lease is up in May and I am hoping I can work a deal to keep me here. I really dont want to move but if I have to I will.
Well Ive signed my new lease, therefore this community has to be the bomb. The staff here is the greatest. I have not had any issues since Ive been here, Praise God. Its going on 3 years now. I would highly recommend.
I have lived here for almost a year now. This is the best apartment I have ever been in! The staff is incredible and the maintenance personnel are timely and detail-oriented. I have never had any issue not be resolved and followed up on by the staff. There are emails sent out to update all tenants on special events that are held periodically with food, drinks, and music. These apartments personify excellence in service and style!
Run from this place.Been here long overdue. Maintenance will enter when ever they feel, unannounced with NO WORK ORDER. I was in my bed and here they come as I lay uncovered asleep. No reason to come in at all, he then says it was a mistake. Our door numbers are on the door I GUESS HE COULDNT READ. This happened 3 times. Ironically he no longer works here. Spoke to another female tenant, same occurrence. Contacted managers.NO REPLY. My rent was late this month GUESS WHO GOT A PHONE CALL!!!! $100 balance and I was told I would be taken to court still out of $1650.Looking for a home tired of this place. Amenities are not what they say NOTHING WORKS IN THE LOUNGE. I had to replace pool equipment for my party after paying 400 to reserve the club house. This place is over rated, move elsewhere. Customer service SUCKS HERE!
New to the Hampton area called the Marcella and spoke with Dwight who went over and beyond my expectations to schedule a tour and get me in a new apartment. The complex was modern, quiet and has a great location. I look forward to moving my family in this summer.
A native New Yorker for 58 years, I moved to VA in Oct of 2014. After being a homeowner for the past 20 years, I chose to rent for a while before purchasing another home.I was blessed to be one of the first occupants of the new 3 bedroom town homes built on the property, and I have not been disappointed! The apartments are well-appointed; the staff is wonderful; the maintenance team is prompt, courteous, and attentive to detail; and the townhomes are very well constructed (I cannot hear my neighbors at all). The staff at the Marcella seems to find any reason to throw a free party with food, drinks, and music in the lounge or at the beautiful pool. The lounge is available for hosting private parties as well.Unfortunately, my family will be moving out soon, as it is time for me to purchase a home. However, if you are looking for a great place to live, look no further!
Beautiful spacious apartments. Loved living here. They are a bit overpriced but overall enjoyed living here
Absolutely great! My sister enjoyed 1-3 years of hospitality at this location. I got a chance to stay and check it out during her college breaks! 10 Stars.
Nice and spacious apartments. Great location and across from Peninsula Town Center.
Nadean N. was especially helpful and efficient during our move-in process. She is professional, responsive and personable. We like theapartment and location.Barbara W. and RickHampton, Va.
Beautiful homes! I am from the DC area and came to visit a family member and absolutely love this place. Very nice.
Decent apartments, maintenance staff is on the ball with maintenance requests and keeping the ground nice and clean; however, the front office staff doesnt get back to you with billing concerns. I have been over billed multiple times in the 6 months I have lived here. When I call to ask about the strange charges they say they will call back (they dont respond to email, even though they give you an email address of the leasing agent that you leased with and that was very quick to respond when you were in the lease signing process) . After a few weeks, I call back and then the cycle continues. One of the over charges was from a water bill that was incorrectly larger than my total rent (usual water bill ~$12.00)... when I originally called to ask about this they said they would look into it and I should take my account off auto draft. The issue was not resolved for over a month, and that was with me calling over and over. Finally, they fixed it but only after I got late fees, and threatening emails and mail about being late on payment/ attorney fees (I paid the rent, I did not pay the >$1300 water bill though because come on... that is insane). So if you decide to live here, I would double check EVERY month that your bill is correct and dont let the office staff blow you off when you call with concerns about strange charges.
This apartment complex is beautiful, the people are great but the walls are thinner than I ever could have imagined. I am unfortunately woken up every morning between 3 to 4 am by a strange knocking. Maybe someone getting their morning exercise on or something from the exterior. It makes for long exhausted days. I can hear the conversations of my side neighbors and feel like the top ones will be coming through the ceiling at any second. I really love the complex and the amenities. I hope that I can get used to the noise factor because I think the summer here could be awesome. I really think the owners should have invested in better soundproofing. I think with this they would have had tenants for extended periods and wouldnt feel the press of surrounding apartments but I guess hind sight is twenty twenty. The complex does appear safe and the maintenance issues I have had were move in issues that were quickly addressed.
We pay almost $1500 for a 2 bedroom apartment which we are only given ONE parking pass. I get home from work much later than my roommate and already had one incident happen with a strange man standing in the parking late (which by the way there are no cameras in the parking lot so thats comforting) at 2am before so I have the parking pass... However I cant even use the parking pass because theres people without passes parked in reserved spots for people with passes. Ive brought this to the offices attention several times and I still get the same bullshit excuse (for two months now) that theyre waiting on the towing company to sign their half of the contract and theres nothing they can do about it.... So Im expected to pay all of this money and have my life in danger walking to my apartment late at night because I cant get a spot in front of my apartment. Very poor customer service and I feel like more could be done to fix the situation but theyre too lazy.
I have taken a tour of this property and, visited friends in several units. The walls are paper thin. The tour was okay. The gentleman that gave me the tour was friendly. The unit he showed me unfortunately was not the cleanest. I felt like the apartments were okay but overpriced.
Its a nice apartment complex. But when i lost my job as a contractor at the shipyard, well lets just say i didnt read the contract as well as i should have. READ the Boyd Homes Addendum section 17 - Liquidated Damages and look at the lost rent damages section. Yep, you can cause damages to the complex by braking your lease early. This little landmine cost me $2200 on top of the 60 days rent i have to pay them. In all i had to pay over 4000 to the complex. Other then that it is a really nice place.
Too many maintenance problems and the apartment was built in April of this year. Also the staff is horrible. The location is in a good area though.
Beautiful inside and out one of my friends live there and they like it alot
I dont recommend this place, mostly for the way youre treated when you stay here. We never got our welcome package, with all the information necessary to navigate, nor were we given a tour. The people who worked here were very rude, I presume because my co-leasors and I are young. The first day I moved in, I had to stay in the leasing office for more than 4 hours because their accounting is so unorganized that theyre prevented from doing simple addition to figure out who owes how much money to them. When we moved out, I was sent a check with all of my co-leasors names on it so that none of us could cash it without mailing it around the US. We were refused separate checks because it was too much work for the office and this is the way its always done. Marcella, although aesthetically appealing, is a ridiculous place to deal with the business of.
We have been here for two years and it has been a terrible experience. In the two years we have had 8 leaks, and maintenance has been in and out. Tearing walls apart and fixing it, we have had to move our furniture around numerous of times so they can get to the leaks. It has been super frustrating and it has not felt like home. I cannot wait to get out of here!!Beyond that the walls are super thing and we have stopped sleeping in the master bedroom because we get woken up every morning at 4. Last year around the holidays, for about a month, the people below us played music all night till about two in the AM. Vibrating our floor and even after talking to management they did not stop. I wish I could give it zero stars! Paying too much for all these problems!
Loved it. Way better than new town will ever be!
Nice apartments
Nice place but as the person below said, if you decide to break up the lease for any reason you are going to part with an arm and a leg... $4k out of pocket!
Salt water community pool and BBQ area... #awesome
We just came from this place trying to get some information on their apartments. I dont know if the girl that was sitting at the table worked there or not,but if she did she didnt acknowledge us or anything. So we just left. Not a good first impression for future residents.
Great Staff & Awesome apartments
Its a great place to visit
The property manager is amazing!
Nice place with a friendly staff.
Wonderful looking apartments.
Noisy place due to thin apartment walls, noisy neighbors, did not feel safe although place is well-lit at night, apartment door did not lock well, not all staff is courteous, expensive move out when lease is broken early as mentioned by other reviewers.
Lovely place to stay.
One word: unorganized, wont be moving here
Really nice
