What a delight it was to find Rob and his unique shop! Excellent haircut and beard shaping. A unique venue filled with antiques relating to his craft - family heirlooms, razors, barber poles, even barbershop quartet sheet music! Rob is a fascinating fella, very personable and eager to please. Extremely professional and providing all the right precautions to protect his clienteles health (hand sanitizer, mandatory masks, seating and appoints to provide distance from other clients). I called to set up an appointment. A guy on the phone answers and asked if i’ve been vaccinated before I can finish setting up my appointment. Then says you can’t come if you haven’t been vaccinated then hangs up without even being able to answer the question. Very unprofessional.

Rob does a spectacular job at cutting hair. First, he takes covid precautions seriously, as everyone should. Second, the overall experience was excellent. He listened to me as I explained what I wanted. Conversation was smooth and not awkward. He styled my hair and made sure I knew how to do it at home. Finally, he finished it off with a neck shave. Overall Rob does a good job and is very friendly however there was about a 20 minute wait for me to get my haircut past what my original appointment was scheduled for but I’ve never found a barber that doesn’t do that. Also he forgot to cut my bangs when I asked him to trim the top but I still walked out of there looking fresh.

Also need a haircut. Found him on the web with great ratings so called and made the over due appointment. He asked what I wanted to do...I told him a few things about the hair cut but for the beard I asked for his thoughts...we confirmed the plan and 1 hour later awesome hair cut and beard cut looks fantastic. Used some great products in my beard with super fragrance. Nice clean hand shaved neck, over ears, and cheeks creating great lines. Ill be back ! I was spending the day with my husband for his birthday and one of the things we were doing was getting his hair cut. I walked in with him and was planing on staying until the owner who only spoke to my husband but not me said “ This is a gentleman’s establishment. Only for gentleman.” My husband asked if that meant I’m not allowed to stay here and then the owner Said yes and suggested that I go wait at a coffee shop. I’ve never been kicked out of an establishment for being a women so that was a first! Not sure what’s gentlemanly about that and why it would even matter if a women was there. One time, I took my son in for a haircut a few days after I had mine cut and Rob asked me to sit down for a second because he wanted to go over something.I had no complaints about the haircut, but he saw something with his eye that he felt needed correction. I have been to Robs Chop Shop about 4 to 5 times. I thought the place was quite different compared to the other barbershops out there - jazz music playing in the background, it gives you that vintage vibe, very unique. Although the place seemed great at first, theres a large disparity between the barbers skill and the cost. I would not pay $30+ to a barber who messes up my sideburns not once or twice but three times! The first time was not so obvious. I let that one slip and fixed the mistake myself. I had to point out the second time my sideburns got messed up - so he fixed it (but Rob didnt even apologize for the oversight). And the third time? I didnt notice it at first but when I got home, showered, and looked in the mirror - boom: left sideburn was an inch and a half higher than the other. And I felt rushed towards the end because there was one other customer waiting. But thats no excuse! Terrible... Wont go there again.

Great music on the radio, and good conversation with a guy whos been a Dallas staple for as long as I can remember. In fact, ever since my first haircut by him, my wife has literally banned me from going to any barber in town.Just remember, make an appointment! He doesnt do any walk-ins, and Ive seen him turn people way. Bonus points, get some of his pomade and gel. I dont let anything else near my medicine cabinet.

While there are multiple barbers/salons that are rated high, Robs Chop Shop stood out because most (if not all) reviewers vouched that Rob was their go to guy. Plus, his shop was voted on the top in D Magazine/other voting articles. So, I second the statement that other reviewers have made, and while I am in Dallas, I will return to Rob for a haircut.His shop is located on Parry Ave. For people driving, you can park on 1st/2nd Ave or Exposition. I recommend calling in and making an appointment early as I mentioned he is one barber and caters to one client at a time. Also note that it is a Gentlemans establishment (no funky business in here, just a male sanctuary where you can have a beer, kick back, get a haircut, and have some guy chat) so please respect the protocol. As I mentioned, he offers you free beer/water while you wait/get a haircut and indulges in some great conversation. The shop is vintage/classy and Rob has his own line of hair/beard products.Now on to the cut, I told Rob what I wanted and he went to work. Almost 60 minutes for my cut, Rob was meticulous and precise and his experience was apparent. A warm shaving cream and straight razor trim ended the cut followed by a quick massage of the shoulders and neck (hand held massager which does its job well too). He used beard oil and an aftershave and I was done with a perfect cut that received a lot of compliments from my friends.

Head and shoulders above the rest. Great atmosphere and even better conversation.

A real barber shop. Probably the only legitimate one in town. Obviously by appointment only and I’d recommend hanging out for a bit for the authentic experience.
