Filled out application for apartment on calumet when the rent was around 1425 for a 2 bed 2 bath. The unit was still occupied so I had to view the unit via FaceTime. They gave me a date when the unit would be ready because the tenants were purchasing a house and hadn’t closed yet. So I completed my application and then they started to stall me out. As they were stalling my application ( because the current tenants still hadn’t moved out ) I noticed the rental price went up to 1525 2-3!weeks later! Unit still wasn’t ready because the people hadn’t moved out yet..I checked in constantly and asked for a move in date and it was always pushed back 3 more weeks… as that happened the rental price went up to 1650.I eventually gave up then shortly after I checked the website and that same property was relisted for 1725. They are running some type of scheme! I’ve never experienced anything like this. It’s a shame because the units are really nice!

Absolutely livid with the way they’ve handled the sale of my building during covid. There was no communication from management regarding the sale of the property; I found out about it when realtors showed up at my apartment unexpectedly. It took weeks for me to hear back from someone at SSS regarding the situation and only after numerous boundaries had been crossed and I was already extremely upset. They held large crowded open houses, with poor sanitation procedures, poor communication with me (the tenant), and a lack of expectation setting with the people they let into my home. They’ve come multiple times with little to no prior notice and few covid precautions. I am disabled and high-risk and have been assured several times that they will do better but nothing has changed. I haven’t even spoken with the person whom I believed to be my property manager for months and instead receive texts from random employees whom I don’t know. At one point in the short time I’ve been living here, the basement flooded and the laundry machines were taken apart to be repaired without notifying us. Another time they notified us they were making repairs to the stairs and would tell us when they were complete, but never did. Their communication, covid precautions, and interactions with tenants have been overall very poor.

My entire experience with South Side Stories Property Management has been great. The leasing agent Kenyetta (we have the same name lol) was very helpful in helping me choose the right unit for myself. The property manager LaToya made my application and move in process simple and easy! Also, Esmeralda the Director of Operations answered any questions I had and she always responds immediately. Their units are renovated and completely up to date. The buildings are in great condition and I would recommend this company to any one who needs an apartment!

I’ve rented with them before and they are a great property management company once you actually get an apartment. However, this time around, they were not responsive and unprofessional to questions we had and when nasked to schedule showings. We communicated with three different people and it often felt like playing telephone with no one taking accountability. My feedback is to have your staff engage in training around communication skills and customer responsiveness. As a result of failed communication, we found an apartment elsewhere.

Waste of time. Never communicated with us, made us go through hoops to apply. Everyone had more than enough income and co-signers and we weren’t approved. They are very prejudice and unprofessional. Don’t waste you’re time I’m telling you they don’t care and they will stress you out. I never leave reviews. Believe me.Edit: you can say what you want but your actions tell it all. Instead of responding to me to save your “reputation” do a better job at being what you all claim you are. This is bad business.

Southside Stories LLC represents quality residential properties, and their processes are professional. Although Ive only lived in one of the properties for six months. Their rental process is thorough, and while the prices are within market rates, they are not cheap.... which for the residents is a good thing. That is how they maintain quality units. I am overall impressed!

Let me start from the beginning. This “management company” has very poor communications skills when it comes to potential tenants and amongst them selves. They schedule a showing for their property at 2pm on a Friday. We were 5 mins away when KATHY called to say she didn’t have the correct keys for the unit and that she would show it on Monday. Monday arrive I had to call her to schedule a time. I was then told that she still didn’t have the correct Keys then the story changed to “the current tenants aren’t cooperating”. We were rescheduled for Friday at 10am in which Kathy was late and she still didn’t the keys to the unit! We then waited in a hot hallway for over 15min until some one showed up to open the unit. Please tell me how in any way is this professional? We were given the run around for nearly 2 weeks. Once all our documents were sent in, our income was nearly 4x what they asked for in rent, we have stable careers jobs, our credit scores met the requirements along with a co-signer who has excellent credit and we were denied the unit. This is Clown City not a rental management company! Jon my suggestion to you is, train your employees to have the same sense of urgency when it come to handling business the same way you do when it come to you responding to the negative reviews! DO NOT RENT FROM THEM!

SS properties have a great eye and attention to detail, from the outside gardening, to the crown molding along the ceilings, clean hallways, and overall signature touch of that condo-luxury feel. The properties have a home-like feel soon as you walk into the properties, coming from the lighting and fixtures. You can see the care and excellence that they put into their properties. And Noel, the listing agent, did a fantastic job articulating the history behind SS and each property shown. He is very connected to the community and passionate about his work. That speaks volumes (to me). High level of quality and care overall!!

I never right reviews but because I have had such a great experience so far I had to. Noel has been so wonderful I love his energy and kind spirit not to mention I love what south side stories is doing for the community. I am not yet a resident but am looking forward to being one. Noel has been great at communicating with me and not making me feel pressured or rushed in making a decision. And not to mention their properties are gorgeous and well kept.❤

I met Noel and John. They were amazing. This was my first time hearing about south side stories and Noel showed me 3 beautiful bronzeville units that were to die for. Each unit was modern, cozy, and well kept inside and out. You can tell that Noel is really invested in his work, in his people, and in his community. I look forward to doing business with them!

By far The worst company I have ever came across. They give you the run around about everything . They dont get back in contact with you at all . South side properties are not professional at all.You all gave us the run around from day 1. How do you schedule us a showing, an 5min before we arrive you have the lady Victoria text us saying she is sorry. And doesn’t have the key . Then you all reschedule it. And the same thing happens . It’s unacceptable.

South Side Stories is the best in the business! My sister introduced me to the group when she moved into one of their well appointed, well managed properties. I had always wished to live in one of their buildings based on how well they took care of my sister and nephew. I now live in a South Side Stories building and I couldnt be happier. Every need and request is fulfilled immediately and I am treated like family which is rare. I am truly fond of the staff and ownership, it is truly a blessing to live in a place where people care for you like the South Side Stories family does. Looking forward to a long lasting relationship!

Very rude customer service! Called to schedule a tour and the girl tells me I have to do it online...FOR EACH PROPERTY? She blew me off from the questions she couldn’t answer and it’s been 5 days and I still haven’t been contacted about the properties I requested to view. It’s crazy because I’m actually a property manager and I couldn’t see myself not accommodating a prospect! And as a leasing agent how are you not trying to make your commission? Very nice properties it horrible customer service! If that’s your first impression you have inspired me to pass on dealing with you all’s mess for 12+ months! What if I were shopping you guys? Definitely would’ve given you the lowest based on that alone. If any of you were working under me, I’m sure I would’ve shown you guys the way to unemployment by now.

Unfortunately, we have to give a star to rate this place. But if I could rating would be a zero. This property management facility is extremely unorganized. This is my second time wanting to look at property they own and I was treated the exact same way from the first time. I wanted to give them another chance but NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!! Do not RENT from them.

Completely satisfied with my experience with SSS. They helped transition me from out of state and made accomodations with move in dates and scheduling a viewing during my short visit to Chicago. I was locked out of my apartment on my first day and Esmeralda was very understanding and was there within 20 minutes! Thank you SSS for helping me with my move into Chicago!

I give South Side Stories 5 stars because they rock!! I have been in my beautiful unit for almost 2 years and I very pleased. I have great neighbors, the promptness of getting issues resolved and broken things fixed is amazing Jon, Noel, and Esmeralda are good people that really care about the tenants they go over and beyond to make things happen and it is appreciated.

After viewing the available listings on their website, I decided to call South Side Stories Property Management to schedule tours in the ones I was most interested in. The first call, I left a detailed voicemail message for Elizabeth. After several weeks of not hearing back, I called again. This time, I spoke live to Elizabeth and gave her my phone number (as requested) to pass on to someone who would call back within the hour. An entire week later, I still hadnt received a call back so I called once more. I explained to the receptionist how Id been attempting to call for over a month and she asked for my name to look up in their system. She informed me that they tried calling and texting me several times. Im not sure how that was even possible as my phone is pretty much glued to the palm of my hand and never even registered any missed calls nor text messages. When I explained that to her, I got the verbal shrug and an attitude of oh well. She was unapologetic for any miscommunication and when I inquired about the two units I was interested in, she told me theyre both under active applications to be rented out (as I looked at both still showing availability on their website). If my preliminary experience with this company was this horrible, I guess its a blessing that I wasnt able to spend my hard-earned money on their property monthly for the duration of a lease! Its a shame because judging from the pictures, they really do seem to put a lot of work into creating beautiful apartment units!

The worst customer service i have ever experience in my life. I traveled 2 hours to view an apartment . The agent called me 20 mins before the appointment to make sure i was still coming. Upon arrival he states he has good news and bad new . He proceeds with the bad news saying the unit had been taken . That was something he could have told me during the call 20 mins before . Then he walks myself and mother into the building . Im thinking he s going to show us the unit. But instead he tells us about his gay marriage and how picky he is, while walking us threw the hallways .He was very unprofessional and should invest in better business and customer service skills. The agent was very rude and I would not recommend this agency to any of my friends or peers. They should really hired better agent before someone file a lawsuit against the company .

I have been a loyal tenant of Southsidestories for 6 years and although it will soon come to an end, I have to say it’s been a wonderful experience. I don’t write reviews and usually wouldn’t take the time to, but I felt the need to download google maps onto my limited space iPhone just to be able to spread the word about how wonderful the Southsidestories team is. Esmeralda is one of the sweetest, compassionate and efficient property managers I have ever encountered. Noel and John are WONDERFUL!!!! They have been so great to me and my children through the years. They are filled with so much empathy and understanding. John and Noel has always put our safety first and words cannot express my gratitude. The homes are beautifully constructed with impressive details. Everyone who enters your home are sure to be amazed! If anything goes wrong they are literally Johnny on the spot! Snow removal done so fast you wouldn’t know it snowed, monthly property upkeep leaves your common area smelling heavenly and a easy website to navigate for work orders and payments. The team explains everything in detail when signing on and makes you feel missed once you decide to depart. I will truly miss this team and would recommend anyone who wants beautiful home to this rental company! A excellent model of a rental company should be!!!

First off I would like to say the company itself has breath taking units (luxury). However my experience when visiting one started out decent but turned into a very unwelcoming experience. I am a hardworking mother of 1 child who is looking for a unit that is worth my money! After letting the agent know I had a 2 bedroom voucher worth ($1593) which CHA is only paying $200 of on my behalf and the rent for that unit was $1585, his (the agent) entire attitude changed towards me and he pretty much rushed the rest of the showing. So I would not recommend any CHA tenants to this agency, It does not matter if you work hard and you are a very well rounded individual once you say VOUCHER its a total deal breaker!

SSS doesnt deserve the bad press. They are particular and personal which imo is a good thing. I rented with them for years before I bought a place. They looked out for me when I needed help, valued my input, upgraded the spaces and I had a facilities contact as a friend. They care about their investment which should not bother anybody (should be comforting). They are neighborhood folk also, you see them around. I would rent with them again because I know they care.Adrian

2 years 9 months and current, my wife and I enjoy living in this modern secure Condo. After our first look at this Condo, we were well impressed and wanted to live here. We are pleased with the atmosphere. The Mickelsons really care for their tenants. We appreciate the Mickelsons and South Side Stories Staff for everything they do for our living environment. Major upgrades have been done outside and inside building, and parking lot. Weekly, building is professionally cleaned and well kept. Work orders are done promptly. Snow is removed for our safety. Having emergency number is very helpful. South Side Stories and Contractors are well skilled in maintenance of building. Our experience living in property owned by Mr Mickelsons is a pleasurable experience. Thank you for caring for your tenants.

Ive always been a person who was capable of forming my very own opinion of others and despite what previous reviews and/or disgruntled tenants may have said or written....TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE..I think those of you who are really interested in finding a TRUE LUXURY RENTAL, are looking for change and youve made the decision to do so. I think its safe to say, that we all have opinions and sometimes in life, things as well as people are not as they seem. Weve all experienced unpleasantries at some point in our lives, but thats not the impression you get or take away from SSS. If you find or have found yourself at the doors of SSS, then clearly you were looking for the absolute BEST!!! NO EXCUSES!! It wasnt because someone sent you there...it was merely because thats where you wanted or want to be. SSS offers some of the most elegant & beautifully designed units, donned with all of the bells & whistles. Whats not to love?? Ive loved each and every one of the units that Ive rented.....past & present!!!!! Never a problem with management or the staff. Their processes and expectations were thoroughly explained & required future tenants who simply wanted Top of the line & state of the art. SSS is way more than just a place of business. For a lot of us, its home and theyre FAMILY..So lets put aside all of the negativity, theres enough of that to go around in the world today....instead lets uplift and support each other in our communities for wanting nothing less than the best for our friends, family & neighbors. I respect what these gentlemen have been able to do for so many years and having the courage to fight for what they believe in and allowing me to be a part of something special. I sincerely appreciate all that theyve done for me personally. Their friendship, commitment and respect has and will forever remain dear to me. Ive never allowed anyone to make decisions for me and Im not about to start now!! Jon & Noel Mickelson are prominent figures, more of an ESSENTIAL PIECE in the Bronzeville community but they will always be real gems to me! I scheduled two showings with south side stories before giving up and finding a place on my own. The first one, was tenant occupied and the tenant had not been informed of the showing. She was gracious enough to allow us to view the unit.The second time I scheduled to see a few apartments in one day due to the distance I lived from the city and I was stood up by my showing agent. No call, no answer no notification. Also compared to similar units theirs seem to be over priced.
