I had the misfortune of encountering Rachel R. She was extremely rude. I called later that day and cancelled my appointment. I refuse to spend my time or money at a place with poor customer service.I typically take my dog to a different VCA location and I decided to give Tanglewood a go because its closer to home. Rachel somehow couldnt retrieve my pets information from another VCA location. Leaving me to do the work for her. I simply called the location I used prior, and they confirmed all my pets info. The associate even told me to give Rachel her name and she would personally help Rachel get the records. All Rachel had to do was call. When I told Rachel this, she had the nastiest attitude. As if I was inconveniencing her. Rachel clearly did not want to do her job. I practically did it for her. If she did not want to do her job, she should not have gone to work. After speaking with Rachel today I will never go nor will I recommend this place to anyone. You do not get to treat people that way and expect them to trust you with their pets and pay for a service.
Love VCA. The vets are honest and don’t try to make an extra buck out of you. I recently had a newborn and my dog was being aggressive towards the baby. I called the office distraught and Dr Chapman picked up the phone and was kind enough to spend several minutes on the phone with me, helped calm me down, and told me exactly what to do over the phone. I appreciate her so much! With her tips, each day our pup was more accepting of the baby and now, I’m relieved to say that he loves her! Thank you so much Dr Chapman! You’re kindness is truly appreciated and I am forever grateful for you!
Vet care is great. Been coming here for 8 years...but...The office staff are a mess. On hold for 20 minutes at a time. Someone will come back on and not know what is going on. On hold again. Picking up meds is awful too- on infinite hold, then they come on and dont know whats going on or why then hold again....Super frustrated with the office staff and the lack of phone etiquette and knowledge.
We have used VCA Tanglewood on Manchaca in Austin for the last 25 years and each one of our pugs are treated like royalty when they arrive for services or boarding. They really care about each little buddy that comes through their doors.JJ is amazing and so attentive to Odette when she comes to visit them. She is a real asset to their business. Rachel and Beatrice are always friendly when weve spoken with them on the phone to schedule appointments, boarding or ordering dog food products.VCA Tanglewood Animal Hospital Veterinarian’s, techs and office personnel are very professional and caring with each encounter including end of life care.We will continue to use them for each of our pets as time goes.
Our dog cut her neck pretty bad on some fencing, we rushed her to the Tanglewood Animal Hospital and they took her in right away. Everyone at this office was so sweet, they took great care of our dog, even clipped her nails while she was sedated (no charge). I highly recommend this place, 5 stars!!!
Max has been seeing Dr. Chapman since he was eight weeks old. At nine weeks, Max had a stroke which paralyzed his rear right leg. Hes eight months now. Its been a rough time, but Max is so much better and actively healthy now. The VCA staff have always been great; friendly and professional. We are seen within a few minutes of the appointment time and most staff recognize Max when we walk in. We joined the Pet club and it has been well worth the cost. If you know you are going to be seeing the Dr. a lot, I highly recommend joining. We are using the kenneling service now as well. Cost efficient, a personal kennel, daily exercise and grooming for a reasonable cost. Plus knowing Dr. Chapman and Maxs records are right there if needed.I highly recommend VCA Tangelwood to anyone and often do when talking to other pet owners. Thanks for all youve done for Max.
I call to setup a sleep appointment for my gour legged little one. it took every thing i had to make the call. took my information set appointment. I celebrate his life with my 3yr and 5yr. Took him for our final goodbye. one hour later I got a phone call telling me that Vet will not do it, she felt it was not necessary. my dachshund was in pain, i know this because his body will shake when walking. He was constantly crying, but what do i know. The vet sure did know to say more test are needed. after one test after another and no answers. stay away from this place.
We had an emergency today. This place was reliable and so so fast! As someone who is staying barely alive in their pandemic .... they were very very very affordable I will be recommending this place over and over again.
Tanglewood VCA is the only vet I will ever recommend. They put love for animals and compassion over the almighty dollar, and the doctors and staff are so empathetic and caring. They were honest and realistic about our options, putting mercy for my old girl over money to be made off of surgeries that she likely wouldn’t have survived. The entire staff cried with my family as we made the hard choice to have our old girl put to sleep, and they were so careful and delicate with our fur baby and us as we proceeded. They even helped me regain my pet parenting confidence after a previous vet had belittled me to the point of tears. I can’t thank them enough for the love and kindness that they showed my sweet girl and my entire family on that day.
I am so grateful for the people here, they saved my dogs life. They were all so nice, took great care of her and did an amazing job!!
Dr. Danielle Chapman is one of the best vets in Austin, I’m so glad she recently moved VCA Tanglewood. She has taken the time to build a relationship with my pup and provides a high level of care and expertise. Plus, the staff at VCA Tanglewood are the epitome of welcoming and caring! I highly recommend this clinic for anyone looking.
I take both my pups here for emergencies. They have an in house lab and on call surgeon. I have dealt with a couple of different veterinarians at this location and both couldn’t have been better. They notify you by text of your appointments and they even text me the next day to check on one of my puppies. I thought it was probably an auto-message, but she actually text back and was very kind!
Great first visit. Staff was friendly, Doctor was helpful and informative. And I was pleasantly surprised at the low cost of the visit. I found my new vet! Even with the curbside visit, I could tell the staff really cares about my pets well-being
They got my pup in early so he didnt go the weekend in pain. It was easy, affordable, and theyre super friendly and caring.
This clinic was a much better place to take your vet when it was locally owned. Now it is owned by VCA (aka Mars aka the candy company) and the corporate influence shows. When my animal was sick I made the mistake of taking my pet here and rather then show that they care they took advantage of the situation to shill an overpriced care plan that I stupidly signed up. Their Careclub plan is overpriced and not a good value for what it offers. You and I are much better off saving the money that is shelled out for the plan and saving it for preventive care and when emergencies arise. If I could go back in time and slap some sense into myself and tell myself that this clinic doesnt care about me or my pet I would.
I can not say enough amazing things about VCA Tanglewood! The entire team is fantastic, responsive, and dependable. Dr Matthyssen is a saint in my book. She has supported me and my pets by navigating their health needs and I trust her implicitly. Everyone that I speak to within this practice is always kind and helpful. I am very particular in choosing vet care for my pets and this practice exceeds my expectations every time. If you are looking for excellent pet care look no further then VCA Tanglewood.
Took my dog here for random sores he has been getting for weeks. The staff is very friendly and efficient. I was in and out in about 35 mins. Dr Chapman is very friendly and personable. She has a very good knowledge of pets and explains the problem in details to where you can understand. I highly recommend this vet for anyone looking for a place to take their pet. After 3 days the sores are finally starting to heal up and my boy is feeling much better. Thanks to everyone at VCA. They also texted me the next day to follow up on how my dog was doing. Great customer service you have a client for life now.
We had to put our sweet 15 year old dog down. Our anxiety and emotions were heightened by the thought of the process. The service of the staff and the heartfelt support made this tragic event into a peaceful goodbye. If anyone has to do this, please go here. No words can express how much I appreciate their professionalism and nurturing demeanor.
We started coming to this vet about 6 months ago after going to see them for an emergency visit. They ALWAYS make time for my pups especially if they need to get in fast for something. They are always kind, quick and informative about my animals. When its time to pay, they do it in the room which saves so much time! We are so glad that we switched vets to VCA Tanglewood and plan to continue using them forever. Thank you so much for being wonderful!
I have been bringing my dog Louie here since he was 8 weeks old, he has a lot of health issues and VCA Tanglewood always go above and beyond to accommodate his needs. During Covid-19 their operations felt very safe. Their precautionary procedures were executed excellently and they are normally able to get me in on the same day if its an urgent matter. I want to thank the whole staff at Tanglewood for their love and passion for our animals.
A few minutes early for my appointment, 15 min on hold, 20+ min after my appointment time they come to get my foster dog. Maskless people with their dogs wandering around the entry way, techs coming up to have me roll down my window to ask which client I was because they couldn’t find the one they were looking for, other clients loudly frustrated in the parking lot over wait times.I tell the tech that takes my foster dog to please use a muzzle if they feel at all uncomfortable, foster is muzzle trained with both kinds of muzzles, and I’ve never taken him to a vet before. He promises me they go really slowly with new patients and will muzzle if needed.Back and forth on hold for almost 2 hours with techs and vet to approve things & pay for things while I’m sitting in my car. Taking twice as long as usual which is ok because I’m assuming they’re being careful and they’re obviously busy. They tell me he’s doing great, vet says he was wonderful. A tech brings him out and forgets his leash. I ask her for it and she says “By the way, you’ll be getting a call from Animal Control, he didn’t appreciate us poking him and bit a tech’s thumb.” I had to have her repeat it because I was shocked. I said I explicitly told the tech to use a muzzle if needed to prevent anything like this from happening. This was completely preventable and my trust with this clinic has been lost. Now I am going to have to deal with Animal Control and Bite Quarantine because they were irresponsible, didn’t listen to me, and didn’t take advantage of safety equipment that would have been so easy to use. They are clearly overwhelmed. Animals are being put at risk due to poor management and unsafe techniques.
VCA standard of care is excellent, don’t expect cheap prices, do expect quality care. You can trust them with the four legged member of your family.
Took my cat in for a check up and the doctors and staff were all incredibly kind, helpful, and reassuring! I will recommend this place to anyone I know with pets. I truly cant express how happy I am with their service. Thank you ladies!!!
Everyone here is wonderful. Very friendly and helpful. The staff and docs are great. I always have a pleasant experience and my dogs are treated very well. They have Saturday hours which is perfect with my work schedule!
Have brought my cat here since I got him, on a recommendation from a friend for Dr. Travis, and Im glad I did. Today Dr. Travis and her assistant, Erin, helped my cat with vaccinations (it was half price when I went, but I dont know how often they run the half price clinic) and flea prevention and were both knowledgeable, kind, and took great care of my cat. I see a lot of happy dogs out in the lobby, too. She and all the staff here are friendly and professional and the facility is nice. Ill keep coming back. Thanks VCA and Dr. Travis!
The team here is simply amazing. I’ve always been pleased with how they work but my most recent visit really topped the charts. I have a greyhound that’s scared of strangers, she’s a firm believe in stranger danger and has mini freak outs when people try to touch her. Everyone here is so kind and understanding and PATIENT with her and they do things on her terms and never push to make things go faster. They turn what starts out as a stressful situation into a comfortable one with gentle care and generous treats. To top it off, I do competitive sports with her and were kind enough to give me some medication to stock my emergency kit with. I’ve been to a lot of vet offices and this one is by far the best one I’ve ever been to.
Staff is very understanding and really care about our beautiful pets
Another visit and VCA has officially stolen our hearts. The staff and Dr. Matthyssen are the sweetest and so knowledgeable. We’ve taken our little pit (who has got some anxiety issues) a few times now for a leg injury and some dental work and every time we leave impressed with the price and the amount of love they give our dog. We’re apart of the Care Club and it’s has saved us HUNDREDS. So blessed to find the best vet care in Austin right down the street from my neighborhood.
All about a profit. $220 is the price they charge for a $58 supplement! A recommended liver supplement to pair with an anti-inflammatory. I can order on Chewy and Amazon, same exact dosage and # of pills cost $58 vs. their $220, $2640/year! When I told them they were price gouging, they added a chronic condition discount, bringing the price down to $130. Sad. This was their 2nd chance, after being very disappointed with our initial visit. Our initial visit, the vet heard nothing and came back with a $1200+ estimate for something I didnt bring up as a concern and I had to reiterate my concerns, each was sporadically addressed. Its sad to see the profit margins of private practices taken over by corporations.
Ive been taking my animals and others Ive come across to this location for over 5 years, and I can say with total confidence that EVERY single person on their team has treated us with exceptional care. The diagnosis have been accurate repeatedly. They thoroughly educate me on their protocol, the outcome and answer the slew of questions I have. Theyve always told me come in on emergencies. Again, this is everyone from the desk to the doctors.I dont live close, but this place is a treasure and I havent gone anywhere else since Ive found them. Dr. Newman typically cared for Ronin, and this week we met Dr. Chapman and were THRILLED with her. Its a testament to the character and caliber of this office that someone like her has joined their team. She has a sincere air and keen intelligence. Despite the circumstances of our visit, I enjoyed our conversation.Needless to say, my dogs health is foremost on my mind right now, and theres no value I can put on the peace of mind I have because hes in their hands.
I woke up on a Saturday to my cat needing emergency attention. After googling a nearby emergency vet, VCA came up. They told me they were not an ER vet but to bring my cat anyways and they would work her in despite not having an appointment. Upon arrival, they saw her immediately. Everyone was extremely helpful and kind. I was in and out very fast and I felt like my cat was in great hands and got the best care she possibly could have. This was the most pleasant vet experience I have ever had. I recommend them to everyone- they genuinely care about the well being of the animals. They even called the following Monday to check up and make sure she was okay. Thanks again, VCA!!!
We have been taking our pets to Tanglewood Animal hospital for a couple of years now and they are amazing! Everyone is so kind and professional. I am so thankful for Briana Travis who helped us save our kittens life. We rescued a 6 week old kitten (named Keanu) who was riddled with fleas causing her to be severely anemic and so weak she couldn’t even walk. Her blood count level was at 12 and we were doing everything we possibly could to save her. Briana was so helpful, she recommended some great products, and told us exactly what we needed to do to ensure our Keanu was getting every single nutrient she needed. My boyfriend and I were around the clock every two hours syringe feeding her, utilizing the supplements recommended, and providing Keanu with 1000% of love and dedication. It was not easy, but we did it! We brought Keanu in for check ups and 5 weeks after we initially brought her in, she was in the clear. Flea free and blood count normal. Briana was very straight forward with us but also very optimistic which made us feel like we could really help our sweet girl. Today Keanu is a very healthy, happy, and energetic 10 month old and we know she would not be with us had we not had Tanglewood hospital by our side.
Really great staff! Everyone was so kind and the doctor was wonderful. I adopted a puppy last week from the Humane Society. They didn’t charge us anything because he was from there and it was within the first two weeks of adoption. They sent us home with pet food, pet treats, poopie bags, and his meds for kennel cough! No cost at all!We will be coming back for his next round of shots soon. I plan on bringing my cat here as well instead of PAZ.
My dog had a twig lodged in his throat. He was choking, foaming at the mouth, and eyes were closing. No other hospitals would take him immediately and VCA Tanglewood accepted him right away. The nurse took him into the office quickly. The staff was exceptionally kind and empathetic, placing the needs of our puppy before anything else. The best hospital by far. They were everything we needed during this stressful emergency. My boyfriend and I forever grateful.
They are SO friendly and knowledgeable. My dog has a big bark but is such a baby. Of he sees you hell bark but if u get close hell roll over. It makes it a little difficult to take him outside because people will generally be afraid of him. The staff at VCA all made an effort to say hi to him. They let him get comfortable with them, smell them, then went out of their way to come back and say hello to him. Its definitely reassuring. I know when we bring him back he will be a bit more mellow since hes now familiar with the place and people. They treated him and us with a lot of care. Highly recommend :)
I wouldnt recommend going here i was going to a very difficult situation and depression at the time i had just adopted a Rottweiler, i took him to get his follow up after being neutered. As soon as this vet woman walked in she didnt like my dog & no she said i refuse to get near this dog i suggest you take him back this dogs are very dangerous and says youre in danger this dog can kill you you know if he gets lose he can kill a child and the dog will be put to down and you will go to jail .. She didnt bother to check him and i left their crying and having to pay the bill. I was so upset i took him back to the adoption shelter and been in deeper depression .. So no i dont recommend this place thanks to this woman i let a beautiful Rottweiler go...
My cat died because the real problem was not what they thought to be. They also charged quite some money for the visit. Well this happens sometime and I understand. One thing to note is that this place charge you separately for doing the X-ray and explain it to you! Its like $200 to do it and another $150 to know whats going on. I also understand if this place does not have a vet who can tell you whats going on from a X-ray! Can you believe it?The worst part is they try to charge you again 6 months later! Thats paying them twice for something they did wrong.
This place has always been kind to me and my furball. However Im giving 5 stars because Lisa was very sweet and acknowledged my upsetting conversation with a another female (didnt get a name) whom didnt even explain another way to help my situation. Lisa Thank You for finding a better way to fit my need. I will be seeing you soon for my Pennys check up :)
I received amazing customer service here! Dr chetman was amazing. I’m so impressed with my visit here
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE &ALL THE STAFF! Ive been taking my big dog for five years and just singed up my little dog yesterday and would think of taking them anywhere else. They are always professional friendly and very helpful. You can really tell they care. When i looked at the reviews i couldnt believe they woul have had anything but five star reviews but i guess you cant please everyone. If you want a great vet for your loved ones this is the place! Thank you vca Tanglewood for giving me peace of mind with my babies😁👍
My best friend Albert was saved by Dr. Abbott and staff years ago. They are always there to improve his quality of life.I love VCA Tanglewood. ❤Thank you for all you do for us!!!!!
Absolutely outstanding! My Cheese boy recently underwent an emergency cystonomy at the hospital on Frontier after I picked him up from someone who was sitting him. I took him to VCA Tanglewood the following morning since he was still unstable and dehydrated. The staff here exceeded my expectations. The front desk staff was welcoming and got me in immediately even though I was a walk-in right as they opened. The two techs I talked to (oh boy, I wish I remembered their names) were fast-acting and professional, and Dr. Abbott was also very professional and informative. I didnt feel like I was being rushed or that I was being treated as a number and above everything, I felt listened to, even when I was being a crazy cat mom, calling in every 5 hours to check and see how he was doing. I appreciated our second visit even more than the first, because when he was released, a tech sat down with me and went over his blood values with me rather than sending me off with an everythings great now, you can go home! As a tech myself, that left an extremely positive impression on me. Everyone was very kind to Cheese, and they sent me home with several different Urinary SO samples.I will definitely be taking the big Cheese here from now on. Thanks everyone!
I found a lost dog that had tags from this place. We were able to go in right before they closed. They called the owners to inform them. Gave us a leash and dog treats along with information and directions to the animal shelter. You can tell they care very deeply about the pets they service.
We have been taking our Choc Lab to Tanglewood ever since we got hosed by other clinics. They are always nice, accommodating, and shoot straight with you.We moved to far west Austin and still make the drive south to this clinic.Satisfied client for 8 years now.Roy and Rebecca
A bit pricey, but I guess it is what it is.I had to take my yorkie Ty in June because he was mauled by a bigger dog. They were able to see me very quickly, and I appreciated that very much. I called other places in the area and they said I would have to wait at least 2-3 days. Tanglewood Animal Hospital was able to see me within the hour.My other dog Maggie has needed to go see them, and I really liked how the veterinarian was able to explain everything very thoroughly. Thanks again!
I have to admit that initially I was really unsure about this place. My Chihuahua is my baby, and she is all I have. I am the type of person that will ask for proof to back up your present and future decisions towards my pets care, because I want the best and only the best care for her. Dr. Matthyssen is really knowledgeable, caring, and precise with treatments – leaving no doubt in her decisions. I won’t lie, every single time my Chihuahua has to go into a procedure – as simple as it can be – I am always really worried. That is until I pick her up that my worries are gone. They always assure to give the best care for her, and that is why I took the time to write this review. Highly recommend this place.
Staff is very friendly and nice. The prices for a check up and shots isnt too expensive. Just super happy my cats were happy and well.
We recently moved to the area and had a bad experience with the Circle C Animal Hospital. We were then referred to VCA and were saw on a walk-in basis by Dr. Abbott, who was loving and gentle with our ailing pup. All the staff was kind and friendly - unlike anything Ive seen before. Go here if you love your animal ;)
This location is overwhelmed with the amount of patients they service and things fall through the cracks. Unfortunately, those things were my family, and with devastating results. All I can say is that they failed us.
It was always a pleasure using VCA for checkups with my fur baby, Luna. We have moved and I am upset we will not be visiting anymore. Thank you for treating Luna like family!
They are clearly not interested in acquiring new customers because I was left on hold for 10 mins while Beatrice rudely told me she was helping someone else. When she came back she told me something that didn’t sound right and when I questioned it she actually hung upon me!!!! Def won’t be taking my animals to them!!! Very poor customer service!!!!
When this practice was still Feather and Fur, it worked for me. My elderly cats had many years of history here. Dr Blatt and Dr Newman clearly cared more about doing the best for pets. That sometimes meant talking to me over the phone about my decrepit 17 year old cat versus me dragging her in to be seen and then being traumatized and loosing weight for weeks afterward.VCA is clearly fee driven and since Dr Blatt and Dr Newman have both moved on, this is basically an entirely new practice. Its a shame to totally loose so much medical history at the end of a failing pets life.
Dr. Abbott is the best Veterinarian I have ever dealt with by far. She has always treated our dog with kindness and patience. I would strongly recommend that you go to VCA Tanglewood.
Great staff!
Very friendly and very good with our dogs. They fit us in that same day. Very happy with cost and especially happy with Dr Abbot!
Called VCA Tangelwood Animal Hospital, after about 30 minutes, of Beatriz checking with doctors and lab techs, I had all my questions answered. I apologized for taking so much of her time,.her comment was “Well we need to take care of Bella.” . Continue to be impressed thanks, Beatriz. This vet and staff beats my last by 100%.
Great staff, have taken my dogs here for years. Dr. Abbot is easily the best vet weve ever dealt with.
We have taken our pets there for over ten years. The place was called Feather and Fur Animal Hospital. The two vets, Dr. Blatt and Dr. Newman are wonderful!Sadly Dr. Blatt sold the practice to V.C.A. and retired. So much has changed and for the worse. In November, I had to go in person after several phone calls with different staff, failed to clear up a simple issue regarding my dogs prescriptions being filled. In Decemember, I received a statement with a balance due of $25.00 dollars. I have no idea why I have this charge. In January I called to have my dogs shots updated just to hear a sales pitch on joining a wellness club with monthly fees.It appears this place is now profit driven with poor customer service.
I am soooo increadably disappointed and partly infuriated with this place! I use to love it when it was not a VCA hospital (use to be fearher and fur) and now it’s very obviously only about the bottom dollar! Their prices are outrageous and you can’t do anything without them also charging a $60 exam on top of it. Was $170 for walking out with generic pain meds and antibiotics. The med and procedure prices have all but doubled on top of that and at one point the tech was even snarky when telling me I needed another rabies vaccine for liability purposes, even though I had it done and just needed to get it at my house. And I can go on, but won’t.I don’t even write reviews, this is how upset I am at their service after becoming a VCA clinic. I’m never going back again.
My familys dog (~10 yo) had a lesion on her tail. It had been there a while and wasnt improving. She seemed fine although she licked it sometimes. I brought her here and they said theyd need to amputate her tail. They made it seem like no big deal. After the surgery she seemed weak and slow for a few days and then died. They told us there must have been something else wrong with her.
Our cat died and we were new/unsure as to what to do with the remains when living/renting in the city. They were very kind at Tanglewood and were a great help to us in a very sad situation.
They were helpful in getting us information to take a lost dog to shelter.
The staff is nothing short of amazing. Extremely patient and knowledgeable.
My examined my new adopted puppy there, they recommended to buy a care package for $350. After 5 days, my puppy dead. I asked them for partial refund, they refused. It is like a scam, you paid, you will be trapped there. Make money for poor animal, shame on you.
Can’t say enough kind words about this pet hospital! They took our 3 dogs in for the week when we got temporary evacuated due to Hurricane Harvey. We are fur-ever greatful!
Pricey and my cat died anyway.
