The vet and vet techs at Westlake Animal Hospital were so kind! It was our first time there and I was able to feel like I could trust them immediately. The price for the services was reasonable as compared to other vets and we love how it feels like a small, local vets office. Would definitely recommend to others.

I took my dog here after a less than pleasant experience at a different local vet. The vet tech and the doctor were both extremely polite and helpful. They were able to diagnose the issue and provide suitable treatment all while remaining extremely professional and transparent. The doctor gave me a call 24 hours later to check in on my dog! They have been in business since the 70’s and it showed - they know what they’re doing. I couldn’t be more pleased with the service I received and I strongly recommend you take your animal to Westlake Animal Hospital next time you have a vet visit!

She addressed all of our questions and truly seemed to care and has a great sense of humor. We hope Dr. Johnson stays there a while so she can be our permanent vet.

After moving to Austin, I was turned down by several veterinary offices for my 15 year old dog (not taking new patients). Luckily I was recommended Westlake Animal Hospital. They give great personalized service and treated my dog like my old vet did in Tampa. They also went out of their way to help me find a dog groomer that took new clients. I took both of my cats to Westlake Animal Hospital because they needed their Health Certificates for traveling to Spain. My regular vet wasnt as seasoned at this process and I had zero room for errors due to the tight timeline of travel. This team was amazing! They anticipated any problems and took quick actions responding to the USDAs queries when needed. They also worked well with my regular vet office to get the needed health records. They were compassionate and took their time to help explain processes. They were great and I would highly recommend them for this process.

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Rains and the staff at Westlake. After having horrible experiences with other vets that just simply don’t care, it’s been so refreshing having a vet that is so attentive and follows up when you actually call, is happy to answer any and all your questions with thorough explanation and not rush through the appointment, and more than anything, looks for a second opinion when dealing with something he’s not too familiar with. We’ve also had our pups stay at Westlake throughout the day due to an emergency or being sick and they were always the nicest and most patient people when we called to check in on them which was so so helpful during COVID when you couldn’t even walk your dog in. We really can’t thank Dr. Rains enough for taking such good care of our pups. If you have a brachycephalic dog don’t waste your time or money with other Austin vets, they’re the way to go and will actually understand what it means to care for a brachycephalic dog.

This was our first time at Westlake. The staff was great, they helped to get our appointment scheduled, answering all of our questions and then the big ice storm hit. They were affected just like everyone else was. They kept us informed and had a new appointment set for us as soon as they were up and running. Dr. Voelzel came out to the parking lot to meet us and to meet our pet Bambi. He answered all of our questions and it was a very nice gesture on his part to take the time to do that. He also personally called that night to check-in on Bambi and us. We live about 5 hours away and we chose Westlake because of a procedure we wanted done not available to us in our area. How we were treated and most especially how they treated and took that special care and went above and beyond what is normally done elsewhere was stellar. So much so, that we have decided even though it is 5 hours away. They will be our choice for the care of our pets. Thank you to the staff and to Dr. Voelzel for actually caring for your patients not just treating them.

They then sent me a different estimate after rescheduling. After calling to bring that to their attention. They sent me another estimate significantly higher than the two other I had just received.Clearly they either don’t know what they are charging for. Dr. Voelzel and the staff at Westlake Animal Hospital are truly amazing. My 6-month old puppy started limping on his back hind leg on 10-26. After a vet visit on 10-28, I found out that he broke his femur bone and would require surgery or amputation. I learned that the surgery could be anywhere from $3000-5000. I frantically called around to different facilities and finally, on 10-29, I came across Westlake Animal Hospital in Austin (I live in San Antonio). They accept a method of payment called Scratchpay which helps cover the cost of veterinarian care. I initially spoke with Caryn and she was so kind. She informed the doctor of my dogs situation and after his vet sent them his x-rays, Dr. Voelzel said that although he was booked the next day he wanted to see my dog immediately for surgery. He squeezed him in to his busy schedule the following day. They also boarded him the night before for free so that they could do all of his pre-op work (which was the same day that I called). The price for his surgery was under $3000. One of the staff members, Debbie, was also amazing and is the sweetest soul. She made sure that we got to the facility okay and greeted us like family when we arrived. They have a no contact procedure for drop off/pick up due to covid so the vet tech met us at my car to take my dog and Debbie came out just to say hello! After my dogs surgery, Dr. Voelzel called me on my drive back to San Antonio (it was close to 10PM at night) just to check on my little guy and ask me if I had any questions. I am amazed at the kind of care offered here. Everyone, the doctor and the staff, are truly in the right field. The hour and a half drive was so worth it! Thank you all for everything.

I am extremely upset. I saw the vet for my tiny 7 year old Yorkie, named Mini, who weighted about 3 pounds and had been going there since she was born. The female Vet kept on insisting that she needed a dental cleaning. 10 days later, Mini was not eating much. She never did a blood test. Unfortunately, when I brought Mini after taking her to the Emergency Vet twice on 2222, the next Vet did a blood test and recommended Mini be put to sleep due to advanced Kidney Disease. I watched Mini suffer for 10 days frustrated at them not having any answers.Mini had lost so much weight and was only weighing 2.2 oz by the time she died in my arms. THEY SHOULD HAVE KNOWN to DO do a blood test and then worry about expensive dental procedures. ABSOLUTELY a horrible way to see you furry loved one die in your arms and me traumatized for life to not have been able to have helped her. They could not do anything, recommend any type of nutritious food, etc. I WILL NEVER TAKE another PET to this HORRIBLE PLACE!!!! I do recommend buying the right soft food available at in bags at HEB. High protein and no grains.I SPENT about $1,000, on fees, blood work, cremation, etc. But really, I felt no one really cared! WORST PLACE EVER!!!!!!

I cant begin to express how great our experience here was today, even in the midst of a global pandemic! We adopted our dog, Max in March and were back and forth to our previous vet about once a week until today for issues with his skin. Every time we left our previous vet, I was left without answers and money (though Id pay about a billion dollars to make sure my guy is happy and healthy.)This weekend, Max seemed extra uncomfortable and I noticed a bald patch on his back, so I decided to try a different veteranary practice. After some extensive googling, I found Westlake Animal Hospital and gave them a call. I was warmly greeted, and within seconds of chatting with the receptionist, I knew we were in good hands. We were able to get an appointment the very next day, and the new patient paperwork was easy to fill out online and asked a lot of detailed questions about my dog, which I appreciated.Since we werent allowed into the building due to COVID-19, a vet tech came to our car to get Max. She was super friendly and down to earth and asked a bunch more detailed questions before taking him inside.About 20 minutes later, I received a call from the Vet, who diagnosed Max with a skin infection and got him on the right meds. She spent time explaining everything in detail and answering all of my questions. We left feeling very well taken care of, and will be loyal patients for life!!Thanks Westlake Animal Hospital!!!♥️

Ive been driving south to Westlake for several years now. Dr. Angela was recommended to me by a friend with a cornucopia of cats, and my experiences have been uniformly excellent. The doctors are knowledgeable and compassionate, as well as understanding that my budget cannot handle high vet bills. Between mostly diet and observation, we have kept my elderly, energetic cats with high quality of life. The support staff goes out of their way to help, and the one time there was a disconnect in service? It was pointed out to the office manager and a change incorporated into procedures.Also--little things are big things. This clinic is always CLEAN. It looks and smells clean, the boarded animals are healthy and away from noise and confusion, and the dogs and cats are on separate sides of the building, so they are not upset or too excited about the presence of each other. Westlake can sell you Rx diet or give you a script--no drama. And the people at Westlake love animals--not always the case with vets. My cats are my roommates, and Westlake helps me keep them at their best. Its worth my drive from north Austin! I recommend that any pet lover give them a try. Ive lived in Austin long enough to try five other vets, and may all the things I love about Westlake continue!

The team at Westlake Animal Hospital is incredible. For well over 10 years, Ive brought several of my pugs to WAH. Signe Corbin is a nationally recognized award winning senior vet tech. She is famous for her being the pug whisperer and is a talented pug spa technician. The dental analysis, X-rays and cleaning are do educational. One never knows what my pugs are experiencing in their mouth (healthy or unhealthy) without dental care. The top notch veterinarians also diagnose my pugs health issues with accuracy. The level of care is exemplary!

I took my 8.5 year old dog, Boone, to Westlake for a hip and joint analysis and overall checkup since he is heading into his golden years. Dr. Voelzel was extremely knowledgeable and had great advice on how to best help Boone stay healthy, active, and protected as a senior dog. The staff was also great about me bringing along my younger dog, Crockett, who has separation anxiety, even though the appointment we made wasnt his! Westlakes staff all feel like great friends and I know they have the very best interests of my two pups at heart! I only wish they were a bit closer to the part of town I live in!

This place is unmatched. We live in San Antonio but make the hour and a half drive to Westlake for anything serious with our pugs. I have always been really picky about vets and how they treat our pets. The staff at Westlake is incredible... From the front desk, to the techs and doctors. I have so many stories I could share as evidence, from one doctor calling us after he got home from work to check on our pug that just had surgery to Signe coming in on her day off to be there for us when we had to put one of our pugs to rest. I cant even imagine a more professional, caring, and personal experience than the one Westlake provides to us any time we go there. I have been to vets all over from Florida, to Wyoming, and different cities in Texas. Westlake is absolutely the best.

I have been taking my 2 cats and dog here for 3 years now. The staff and doctors are always great. Dr. Opyt and Dr. Voelzel are my primary doctors and are always knowledgeable and thorough with my fur kids. They definitely make dealing with the construction worth the few extra minutes it takes to get there.

We have been going to Westlake Animal Hospital since 2007. All of the staff has been very nice and knowledgeable, especially Signe Corbin. She goes above and beyond to take care of our pugs as if they were one of her own, even if it is the weekend! There is no other place like Westlake, which is why after we moved away from Austin we have continued to make the 3 hour drive to make sure our furr-babies are getting the best care around.

I love WLAH! As a foster mom for Pug Rescue Austin I dealt mainly with Signe, The Pug Whispered but when my adopted Pug Merlin started having problems with coughing I took him to the people that know Pugs and thats this place. The staff is wonderful and you feel like part of the family! Thank you for all you guys do!!!

I used to work here and I have seen things that would never be tolerated at other hospitals. They do not treat their techs or assistants with respect. July 4th of 2014 they overbooked on feline boarders, knowingly they did not have sufficient room. They charged customers $32 or more a night for their cats to board with them over the weekend. What the customers didnt know was that when the hospital ran out of room, the cats were put in cages in the accounting offices in an upstairs room. Some of these cats were aggressive. The cages were made of fiber glass and smaller than the regular cages used for feline boarding. The boarding kennel for dogs is a very old building. They keep bigger dogs down stairs and smaller dogs upstairs. There have been occasions in which a bigger do was boarded upstairs. This causes problems for techs/assistants because they use a stair case to walk the dogs. A bigger dog can very easily knock an assistant down this stair case and cause serious injury.I ran into someone I used to work with and she informed me that she was threatened with a write up after she was seriously bitten by a dog. Before I quit there were techs and assistants leaving weekly.I was pretty shocked when I heard the this practice hasnt changed much within a year. The doctors and pug rescue do some very amazing things. Everyone there, at the time of my employment, cared for every animal that went through the doors. The issue was with managers and supervisors. There always seemed to be a struggle for a power that ultimately became a distraction. Every time I brought up an issue, such as the boarding kennel not being up to code or safety regulations, my concerns were shoved under the rug and I was told to do my job. The management do not treat their techs or kennel assistants with respect, they treat them like theyre disposable.Boarding felines in small cages in a business office and charging $32+ a night is wrong. Threatening to write someone up after being bitten is wrong.Like I said, the doctors do an amazing job. Pug Rescue of Austin is the most compassionate pet organization in Austin. However, the management here needs a facelift. Until I see a change, I will never bring my pets here.

Warning: They charge $35 for any rechecks of the chief complaint, even if suggested by the doctor. This is NOT the standard at many other animal hospitals Ive been to including VCA Arbor Animal Hospital and Manchaca Village Veterinary Care and Banfield.Subpar Service :1. Placed on hold for so long that the secretaries thought I was a new caller. Nope....Ive just been on hold for so long that youve forgotten I was here.2. Transferred to a doctors voice mail to leave a message for a callback. Called later that evening to find out that that doctor was busy all day in surgeries. God forbid my dogs need was actual emergent and needed a callback say....within 6 hours.3. Came in for a respiratory issue with my dog. First thing the doctor even mentions is..... spay and neuter. Right.... How about you take care of the issue first and then try to sell me on your extras.Practice Manager was very snarky with me. Gave plenty of attitude. Will be transferring back to my old doctor once this issue is resolved. As a future breeder, I will be making certain that none of my future litters going to homes are cared for by Westlake Animal Hospital. **Quite honestly, the worst practice I have been to in over 10 years **

Having gone through a VERY bad experience with another veterinarian practice, I was hesitant about going thru the ringer again. However, Westlake Animal Hospital has proven to be a complete joy! They are always kind and professional when dealing with me and my cats. They also understand how expensive taking care of them can be and always provide options and estimates for things that need to be done (which I am so grateful). So if you are looking for a veterinarian that cares about your animals and your pocketbook - WAH is the place for you and your babies!

We love Westlake Animal Hospital! Even though we have numerous vet clinics around where we live, we drive 45 minutes to Westlake. We have three dogs and have been clients since 2009. Our dogs are like our children and we dont just trust anyone with their care. We love all of the staff, especially Dr. Opyt and vet tech extraordinaire, Signe. Thanks to Westlakes recommendations and guidance, we are confident that our dogs are receiving the best care. The staff at Westlake is always so nice and helpful. They even carry heavy dog food out to my car and help me when I come in with all three dogs at the same time. And, if that wasnt enough, Westlake works with Pug Rescue Austin and helps save the most vulnerable abused and neglected pugs. This place is special and we are so glad that we found them all those years ago. We highly recommend Westlake!
