They are extremely expensive and like to suggest a lot of diagnostics and testing. My dog had a fatty mass, and they quoted me for a growth removal for $1,800-2,000. The surgery center quoted and did it for $800. I also had a 3rd vet give me a quote for less than $850. Separately, I spent a lot of money on other tests that the Dr. scared me into doing (said my dog could have a major disease). The tests were inconclusive and I had the option of running even more, expensive tests to rule things out. After getting a 2nd opinion, I was told my dog had no problems and that the tests were unnecessary. I spoke to a couple of others that have had the same experience here and have since moved to another vet.
The vet and vet tech were really nice and provided a lot of suggestions and ideas for my cat who is terrified of everything. Expensive visit though.
This is one of the few vets I can rely on for quality care on emergency notice. They’re a little pricier, but I think the cost is well worth it for the timeliness of care as well as the quality. They’ve seen my cats a few times, and the techs and doctors really care about each pet they see. It’s convenient that there is also a hospital a block away that they can send pets to if their condition requires more extensive care. I’m grateful to have a business like this available for pet care!
Great place. They were able to see my dog same day to treat a stomach bug.. very professional. Awesome vet. Highly recommend.
I took my two cats for routine check-ups. Dr. Lamkin called me after their check-ups to give me a detailed run-down of what she found. She was very kind and engaged which I appreciate a lot because many vets (and doctors) usually only spend 2 minutes explaining things. The whole process was super transparent so that I could make informed decisions in terms of budget and necessary procedures. The time efficiency is also appreciated. I recommend this clinic and Im coming back.
Brought my cat in previously for a UTI/crystals issue, due to Covid I wasn’t able to be in the room or see the doctor in person, so good communication and responsiveness goes such a long way. Finally was able to meet Dr. Lamkin in person on the last visit. She is warm, knowledgeable, and was willing to walk me through the issues, how they occur, and best modes of treatment.I feel very trusting of her, and would recommend her clinic to anyone looking to cultivate quality relationship with their pet’s veterinarian.
I took my 4 month old kitten here as I, an overly concerned cat mom, was worried that an injury on his paw was becoming infected and wanted to get him seen ASAP on a Sunday. We waited in the car for only about 20-25 minutes, which was really great, especially considering it wasn’t an outright life threatening issue and I know at emergency places they go by severity (which, of course, makes sense) and waits can get long. So already, that was way better than I expected! The care was also excellent. The vet and vet techs communicated with me via phone frequently and with lots of details, which I appreciated since I couldn’t actually be in the clinic with him. They were extremely helpful, answered all of my questions, and gave me advice for next steps.I’m at a bit of a loss to understand why these great vets don’t have a higher rating, but I think that’s always the case with emergency services. When you’re stressed out over your pet having a possibly life threatening injury or illness, you can’t see your normal vet, there’s so much that’s out of your control, and even if the vets do everything they can, you still might lose your sweet pet, it’s nearly impossible to have a good overall experience. However, the quality of care these vets/animal lovers provided was excellent. I don’t think you can go into the field of emergency veterinary services without really caring about animals, and the care of these vets was evident from my communication with them. I’m glad to know they are nearby 24/7 should I ever need to (but hopefully not!) rely on their excellent care again.
Everyone at Austin Vet Care is always SO nice! My cat is very nervous and hates strangers, but they always are so kind and caring. I took him in for a wellness check, they explained everything so well, including the prices. They were quick to get our appointment going, and we were in and out under an hour. Thank you to everyone there for keeping my boy healthy and happy!
We had found a little kitten with a back broken leg :( the owners were found and financially could not take the sweet kitten.. but with the overall amount of financial commitment we could not take her either 😭😭 I would love to use our care credit amount and work out a payment status for the remaining amount if we could adopt the sweet kitty and have her in our forever family 😭😭 but i don’t know if it’s an option.. but thank you Jessica and Taylor and the vet for helping take care of the kitty for us..
Wonderful staff. Dr Gwen is the greatest. She has worked with me to help my little dog. Everyone there are so compassionate and caring. Recommend highly.
Ive only ever had good experiences - even with covid changing the protocols, the staff has been responsive and communicated well always.I would feel confident suggesting them to a friend.
I was a little disappointed with Austin Vet Care for my visit today. I took my cat in this morning before 9am for a possible UTI and the vet and tech both stated I had the option to keep her there for a few hours or take her home to try and collect a urine sample. I chose to keep her there since it sounded pretty painless for her to only have to stay for a few more hours and so we could get a fast and accurate diagnosis. She ended up not being ready to leave until 5pm, partially because she took some time to get a full bladder and additionally the clinic was busy per the staff. While this is understandable, I had to call the clinic 3 times throughout the day to get updates- none were initiated by the clinic. A little before 4pm they finally told me she was ready and to head over. I got there and waited in my car for another hour. At this point I called and they had said the vet should have called me by now for an update....no missed calls. I spoke to the vet who gave me the diagnosis and told me to head on over to pick her up to which I replied that I was already at the clinic. The vet seemed surprised by this and the staff brought me my cat. No apologies were given for the amount of time the visit took or for the delay, no one called to say that they were running behind. I do think they took excellent care of my cat while there and were able to provide me with easy to understand medical information. However, as a clinic they need to definitely improve their communication and understand the stress that is caused by leaving your pet for a few hours and waiting all day without an update.
This company is very responsive which is why I took my 8 month old puppy here. My dog had woken up sick without an appetite and an eye infection. I was able to get him in the same morning and my puppy was treated for the eye infection and also did some bloodwork. It was toward the higher end price wise but since I just needed to bring him in to be seen and have insurance I wasn’t worried about the cost. What was more important was that later my puppy had a turn for the worst and I had to bring him to an emergency center. We took his temp at home and it was 103 and at the emergency room it was 103.5 degrees. Austin Vet Care did not mention his fever and when I called in to mention he seemed worse after coming home they told me to take him to the ER.The staff was very friendly and personable and did a good job explaining everything, but looking back it seems like I should have been told to bring him to the ER immediately. I assume it was unintentional but it feels like the clinic “treated” my dog in order to get money out of me while not discussing his fever and missing other symptoms that Central TX found within minutes. He ended up being diagnosed with meningitis, a serious illness. The good news is Central was able to treat my dog and he is on the road to recovery after 3 days there. Bringing him to Austin Vet Care was a waste of time that could have ended my puppy’s life. This isn’t about money and luckily I have pet insurance that will cover the visit to Austin Vet Care and the ER. But just be aware that the prices at Austin Vet Care are extreme. Some are just around $100-200 more, for example the same bloodwork my puppy got in Boston for $200 was $350 there. But the GI panel my puppy got, which would be $300 in Boston due to shipping to A&M and $150 at Central was quoted at $700 at Austin Vet Care.I would avoid this place if you can and if you think your pet needs proper care beyond routine wellness definitely go elsewhere.
I took my very elderly dog in to them with a sudden onset of seizures, and the doctor did a great job thoroughly checking her out, answering all of our questions, and helping us process the best decision for our little one. I called them back a couple days later, concerned about her behavior and not knowing whether it was a result of the medication. The vet tech I spoke to was so empathetic and helped ease our minds. And the bill for everything was quite a bit less than I was anticipating.
I have been taking my dog and cat to Austin Vet Care Central for about a year now, both for primary and emergency care visits. My experience with their staff and doctors has always been amazing. My kiddos have seen a few different veterinarians there and I have been blown away by how compassionate and thorough they have all been. Unfortunately, we have had to be there a lot in the last 6 months or so because my kitty, Jethro, has been very sick. I had to say goodbye to him this morning and could not be more grateful for the care we have received here. Thank you so much for all that you do.
I found Austin Vet Care at Central Park when my cat was acting unusually on a Saturday morning. The vet I had been using flat refused to squeeze him to see if it was anything to worry about even though they were open that day. So I googled the nearest 24 hr clinic and called them. He ended up needing to stay over night due to an upper respiratory infection and dehydration. AVCCP made sure I understood his treatment plan, tests needed, and associated costs before they did anything. They also kept me posted throughout the day and called at 6am on Sunday morning to tell me how he’d done through the night. I must have spoken to at least 4 or 5 different people over the course of that day, including the doctors, and they were all professional, thorough, and caring. This is now my regular vet. I see no reason to go anywhere else. Also, my cat seems to like them. 😁
Really disappointed because the ladies there were so nice. My puppy went in for diarrhea and I left with a bill for over $200. I understand with covid, that they need to take precautions so I was not able to see the extent of the examination. They prescribed meds that were supposed to help by firming stool, only to make his situation worse. They also wanted to run a test for any parasites so they needed a stool sample (that I would have to collect at home and bring back to them myself) I did not receive a call or email with results for over a week. I had to call myself only to learn that they had the results, but no one reached out. When explaining the reason for the medications prescribed, they did not seem to be consistent or really necessary but of course for my puppy, I trusted the professionals. I now understand the reason for low ratings. The visit that was supposed to help my puppy turned out to be a huge inconvenience and Im extremely disappointed. Now to find a vet that can actually help my puppy now that his situation is worse.
We received incredible care from Austin Vet care! They were very quick to get our dog back. They assessed him and got our test results back quickly. They called with great updates and had a comprehensive and flexible plan that worked for us. Unlike a lot of these reviews we did not think they were overpriced at all, Especially for the level of care they gave our dog.
I own a hyper german shepherd puppy. Our previous vet would always complain that I should train him and other things. I would tell them I do, and then show them that he listens to me, just gets anxious when I am not able to be in the room and doesnt listen to other people. This always made me feel bad.Well we had to go someplace else and Austin Vet Care was where I chose. Same hyper dog, same listening issues. The difference was they said aww he is such a sweet baby and did not try to belittle me just out of what they say during that day. And my dog wasnt magically better behaved here, they just understood that the vet is a stressfull place and did not automatically assume that I am not handling my animal properly.
Got appointment next day. Minimal wait time. Consultation wit Vet. on phone. Took pet to door. After exam pet was brought out to my car. All went very smoothly.
Truly accurate diagnostic !!! We were pretty worried about our dog, so we took her there .It was night and day when she came out of the visit : she was herself again, she hadnt been eating and drinking water for two days and throwing up.We got home and she went straight to fill her up, and happy once more !!!Followed the treatment and that was it !!!They got my confidence and trust on the very first visit to them !!!
We moved here a little over a year go from another vet office & have seen Dr Gwinn. Good vibes from her and she’s into letting you know the details if you ask.
My dog got bit in the face and this place was one of the few open on a Sunday that would take her. They seemed to have taken good care of my pup when it was her turn and they were very covid-conscious. The wait time was 4 hours which was insane but to their credit, they were accurate in their time estimation when I checked her in. My only complaint besides wait time (which wasnt necessarily their fault) was slight disorganization when calling to check her in - had to repeat a few times my information and incident.
Oh my goodness everyone at Austin Vet Care was amazing! The Doctors, and Vet Techs took such good care of one of our kitty babies. They seemed to really love and care for him as their own. Thank you all so much for taking care of our sweet Flower. We are so happy to have him back home getting back to being playful, happy, and healthy.
This is literally my first ever google review because I wanted to share my own experience since there’s such a contrast in the reviews here. I was in a position where I needed to go to an ER for my cat and found that this one was close to my house. I almost didn’t go here because of all the scary 1 star reviews. Since then, I have been there twice and have had a good experience both times. I had a 3 hour wait one time but that’s to be expected with an emergency hospital. I had two different doctors and they were both super thorough with explaining their treatment plans. They also made sure to go over an estimated invoice. I would feel comfortable coming back here and recommending this place.
They are very nice and super attentive with our dog everytime we go in! They are always keep us updated with everything they do with her. This place is a really good place to go if you want your animal to be cared for!
I had a really great experience at Austin Vet Care. I brought my dog in at 1am because his incision from his neuter opened up. Dr. McClure and the staff were very nice and helped my dog right away. The doctor was also very informative over the phone and took the time to answer my questions and walk me through the discharge instructions. It was expensive because it was an emergency appt, but it was worth it knowing my dog was well taken care of. I would recommend this place for anyone who needs emergency vet care.
I have had such good experience bringing my fur babies here. I am a very obsessive pet owner and often feel overly anxious when my babies arent acting like themselves. But every time I have brought them in, the doctors and staff have been extremely kind, patient, responsive and supportive. One of my cats was recently diagnosed by their clinic with hyperthyroidism and his vet, Dr. Cotnam, was so helpful and responsive in his treatment of Momo. He explained the diagnosis clearly and effectively, answering my long list of questions with sympathy and compassion. He also took his time to called around to find Momo a specialist for treatment; and he got back to me in the same day! This is a great clinic with great people; I highly recommend them.
This was a terrible experience, we had to bring our dog to this clinic as it was an emergency and they were the only ones open but we would/ will never go back. They have outrageous prices and up charge everything, provide very limited information which cause multiple trips and delayed treatment of our dog, and don’t offer payment plans OR warn you beforehand that you will have to pay for the whole visit upfront (600$) with no payment plans availableTerrible service, outrageous prices would not recommend
Took my kitten one night and they were fast and talked me through everything they did and my options for treatments. They stayed calm and worked with me efficiently. Highly recommend will be visiting again for a follow up.

I read the one star reviews put of curiosity, and I do feel bad for those people. Over the past few years, we had to take our cats here twice for late-night emergencies. The price was not fun but makes sense due to the nature of their business and hours. The most recent was during the pandemic. Because our cat’s issue was immediate, we were prioritized in triage and didn’t have to wait. It’s just like a human ER triage. I also suspect that it was not a busy night. They were so friendly and helpful and really thorough about everything. We could have a frank conversation about price and treatment options, so I felt they were transparent. We left and came back to pick up our cat, and leaving the parking lot was never a thing for us. They were great about social distancing and COVID precautions. We’ve been there twice and hopefully not again, but they’d be first on our list.
Austin Vet Care has been our go-to emergency vet for well over a decade. They have helped us with a wide variety of emergencies and have been incredibly kind and thoughtful through two end of life moments. I will always hold them dear to my heart. During those harder times I didn’t think to post a review, but just now they helped me with a much less real emergency and were equally as kind. I was having trouble locating a prescription food that wasn’t regularly stocked. I called hoping they might have it by chance. They didn’t, but stayed on the phone with me while they tried to locate someone that did. And they found it. They could have easily just said they didn’t have it and moved on, but that extra help is why I go to them. They really care. Thank you!
Took my kitten here a week ago for an ear infection. Paid $330. She didn’t get any better. Took her back today for a “walk-in appointment” because they were the only place open at 1am. Was told it would be about 1-1.5hr wait, no big deal. There were only 2 patients ahead of me.2 hours rolls by and I’m the only one in the parking lot, it’s now 3am. I call the office to ask about the wait time now...”It’ll be about an hour and half to two hours”. Are you kidding? Why couldn’t you update me on this drastic change while I was waiting all that time??I called to explain how this was annoying and they shrugged it off, “we really appreciate your input.” said the receptionist. Please don’t go here. It’s wont be a good experience. Feel like my cat got worse from coming here.
I brought my pet in last week on Sunday night after my normal vet was closed for an eye issue. While other emergency vets had a 6-8 hour wait, austin vet care was able to get us in in about 1.5 hours. All of the staff were friendly and professional.
My 8 week old husky puppy wasnt eating or drinking, and was feeling ill. I needed somewhere to take her fast. I saw the reviews for this establishment earlier in the day, and rushed her over that night when my Mikos health was scaring me. I still didnt think it was an emergency, so was fine with waiting for a bit in the parking lot, but when it was her turn to be seen, I knew shed be in good hands, and I was right. She is playful and happy, and has her health back! Thanks, everyone at Austin Vet Care!
I had an emergency in the middle of the Night with my dog. I called and was helped by great nurses. Brought my dog in and was taken great care of both me and him. I got all the answers I needed and everything was explained in detail and easily understandable. I was very happy with my experience with Dr. Hartman and her staff I definitely would go back here. Highly recommend.
Covid policies make it hard to review how my dog was treated. I wasnt allowed to go in with her so have no idea her treatment or how scared she was by me handing her over to a stranger and then walking out. Its very hard to explain to a stranger for treatment by a stranger over the phone. She wasnt upset when she came out so Im guessing they were nice to her and they were fair with their charges. Also, sitting in a dark parking lot is scary for a woman alone....but no one got me so OK on that point too!
I have had several pet emergencies (cats and dog) and this is my go to emergency vet. I was shocked to see their ratings so low on here. They are great at what they do.Ive actually had more in depth thoughtful discussions about my pets health with these vets than some of my primary care vets in the past. Caring and knowledgeable people.
Always super professional and personable! Very helpful to chat with the vet about any issues or things you have questions with. Also the covid procedure is super helpful and makes it a safe space.
I brought in a lost cat to check for a micro chip. The woman who helped me was prompt, polite and genuinely helpful. Kitty is home now thanks to these sweet people.
I had never been to Austin Vet Care but they are close to my house and in an emergency we rushed here. I arrived in a panic with my pup and they immediately took him in the back to do an exam. I was upset I couldnt be with him in the back (COVID) but they brought him out to say bye before I had to leave him there for the day for testing/monitoring. The Vet was incredibly empathetic over the phone and the staff were helpful and kind. If we have another emergency we will definitely come here.
This is very concerning please read my storyUnfortunately, my visit generated a lot of concerns that I think need to be addressed. First of all, I was there with My dog and she was triaged with no life-threatening signs. As soon as that happened the receptionist told me to go back home and wait until called for about 2 hours. 20 minutes later, the nurse called saying that Id lost my spot in line and that I needed to go there again and make the line. At the end of the day I spent about 4-5 hours since there were other critical cases in front of me which is very understandable. However, the receptionists should not be misinforming dog owners in any way. This is not the internet or a restaurant, this concerns animal health and should not be taken lightly.Second and most importantly, after taking x-rays on many areas, she did not receive the right diagnosis and treatment. The discharge report does not really address the main concern Ive brought time and time again. She was coughing with vomit. The vomit had gone but the coughing was still there, and she was actually seen doing it while inside repeatedly as expressed by the nurses. The doctor said it didnt matter basically, and he was not concerned about the cough since the X-Ray didnt show anything. WRONG!!!! He actually got upset when I had him look at the video Ive sent hours before where it is clearly displaying white foam and an awful cough. When I called Austin Urban Vet center this morning, and another veterinary, the first question they asked me was Why the hell didnt they send her home with some cough medicine. And this was over the phone. MY DOG WAS ACTUALLY SEEN AND HELD FOR 1.5 HOURS. Im pretty sure as doctors you are aware that any respiratory symptom can aggravate overnight, just like any human, even more so on pets. TWO DIFFERENT VETS said the same thing this morning (not your clinic)!!!!!. Granted her symptoms worsen at night time and she woke up ill, lethargic and with a cough. Finally I got the right antibiotics and treatment since you guys were unable to provide anything accurate at all. Although this is an urgent care, do you guys have to wait until she develops pneumonia? Cant you simply straight forward diagnose early symptoms of a respiratory disease and treat it before it becomes critical? Which again, can happen very quickly. This is rather disappointing, expensive and FRANKLY VERY WORRISOME for any dog patient. Im not the vet so you guys should be the experts calling the right diagnostic and treatment for this, not me begging the doctor to send her home with a cough medicine and him refusing to do so. I spent $800 dollars and left completely concerned about her, moreover, the doctor wanted to get rid of me asking questions and basically shutting me off. This is absurd to say the least and this situation could have become critical as it was.
I would definitely not go back to this emergency vet. Unfortunately, it just happened to be the nearest place to me when my 4-month-old lab puppy was bitten by another dog. He had a roughly 1 inch rip in his ear that we though would probably need stitches. I realize that there is a pandemic going on and that certain precautions are necessary (like my inability to wait with my dog/be with him while hes being evaluated), but the lack of communication from Austin Vet Care was truly inexcusable. They took my puppy into the back and said to go get back in my car and that someone would call me shortly. It took a while for a staff member to actually call me and when they did, they did not have answers for me about Albies condition, what the proposed treatment plan was, how long he would be there, etc. They actually took a credit card number from us and charged us roughly $1,000 before any treatment was administered. Then, we were finally told that he was going to need to be put under general anesthesia to receive sutures and that depending on what other emergencies came into the clinic, he may have to stay overnight. This was shocking to me, because the procedure itself was only supposed to take an hour, and I had brought him in at 4 p.m. (This is a 24-hour clinic). Then, the worst part- after having to leave him at the clinic, I did not hear any more updates, I had to keep calling them back myself trying to pry for information. They couldnt tell me with any definitive certainty whether or not he was going to have to stay overnight, or if I was going to need to pick him up later that evening. This led to me having to be near my car and available for the remainder of the evening/night. Finally (after calling them numerous times and getting no information whatsoever), around 10 p.m. I found out they had switched to the night vet and that he was going to do the procedure and that I would get a call when it was over. Again, they didnt call me when it was over, I had to call them. They said he was still feeling the effects of the anesthesia and that they would keep him overnight. So, of course, I went to sleep (it was about 11 p.m. at this point). Then, imagine my distress to get a call at 4 a.m. from the vet. I woke up immediately and called them back and was told that Albie was in distress, trying to take off his ear bandage, etc. I mean, Im not a veterinary professional, but you would think that this is something they could have anticipated. Of course hes going to be frustrated and vocal and trying to take off the bandage. They wanted permission to give him a sedative, but at this point I did not trust them at all to handle my puppy, so I told them to just give him an oral sedative and that I would come get him immediately. Then, just as the cherry on top of all this lack of communication, they charged me roughly another $200 for BANDAGES and the sedatives that they should have anticipated he would need. Obviously this was a stressful situation to start with, as it was the first major health issue Ive ever had with this puppy, and they made it exponentially worse. In the future, I would drive further in order to avoid this place.
About 9pm or dog got into gum, threw up all his food and about half the gum (he ate about 20 pieces). Soon after he started stumbling and began seizing. We drove an hour and a half to this location, on arrival (About midnight) the woman who took him back said “it’ll be about $180 for this visit in total if that’s okay” so I wasn’t as worried. We sat outside in the truck waiting on any updates, they called maybe 20 minutes later to Tell me he had to stay overnight, and we’d have to pay $2000 and they needed $500 immediately. I obliged because of his condition. Then they had me call poison control ($75 cost) to access further treatment. After that information was transferred they told me overall he had to stay 36-72 hours and I had to pay $3200 up front or they could not provide treatment. At the 30 hour mark they called and told me he needed to stay another 48 hours so they could monitor his blood sugar and liver values, which I was told two hours before hand they were normal. My normal vet told me to bring him home, and put maple syrup on some chicken and rice and give him denamarin for his liver and he’d be fine.Overall: they were rude, money hungry, and had zero concept that no normal person has access to $3200 at midnight. I ended up paying $2400 with the help of two credit loans, a personal bank loan, and my mother in law. He also came home covered in urine. I wouldn’t recommend this facility to anyone.
I have been to Austin Vet Care at Central Park twice this year. Both times they were efficient and great at their modified check in process to keep everyone safe during the pandemic. They were mostly upfront with prices, they didnt specify the office visit/exam fee (was $75 first time and $55 second time). They take walk ins after 7 pm, which was stressful the second time as I was worried about an intestinal issue, but I understood since my dog had no other symptoms she wasnt in critical condition. I needed to ask some follow up questions about aftercare, but they answered helpfully. Wait times for check in and waiting for results were mostly accurate, but obviously things come up that may take priority so understandable.
I would absolutely recommend Austin Vet Care at Central Park to anyone. Dr. Millington was great at reassuring my family and I that our cat was in good care. He made sure we knew exactly what was going to happen and had a very caring demeanor. The staff was so sweet and made us feel like they truly care. My baby is now home and doing so much better thanks to the staff here! I know their job is so tough and I hope they know they are truly appreciated for everything they do!
Great service, detail oriented, and considerate.
We can’t thank the staff at AVC Central Park for the routine and emergency care they have given to our dogs and cats. The personal communication with Dr. Gwin and the other vets shows their compassion and commitment to helping keep our fur kids healthy. The ability to talk through more advanced medical conditions as well as simple medical care is why we trust them with our kids.
Rude and dont care about their clients.Called in for an emergency and said it was a no wait then I get there saying going through shift change and now the wait is 2 hours-Stay away
The late night staff here were fantastic! My friendly pup made friends with a very friendly cat who ended up turning on him. A swipe to the face left him with a little cuts and possible damage to his eye. Between the eye damage being something that benefits from quick attention, my vet being closed on Sundays, and me having enough trouble sleeping after our day, I decided to try something new and check these folks out. They were fantastic! We got there shortly before midnight Saturday. There were a couple other people waiting but they all seemed to be wrapping up - we only waited for about five minutes. They took the pup back and took care of him! We were in and out in less than an hour with great news and the medication we need to keep my mutt healthy. The exam was ~$80 which seems plenty fair for after hours and the staff were very good at communicating what was happening and options! I wouldnt hesitate to take my pup back.
Have used AVC twice for emergency care. The vets were compassionate and caring and very competent in tense times. When they are busy be sure they get all of your info correctly as I had to wait 2.5 hours in the parking lot (Corona times) because they had an incorrect phone number.
We had an emergency with our cat on a Sunday. It was busy and a stressful time, but Gabrielle put us at ease and explained all our treatment options. Great employee.
I took my little dog and I literally had to be waiting 4 hours for them to do nothing to my dog and then some other person got there and i feel like just because we didn’t pay a lot they didn’t treat my dog right but yea other people that pay more they treat them better I feel like people that are going to pay a little should not go there they will not treat your dog right
Quick and friendly service, they were there and prepared for an emergency in the middle of the night for us. I’m very thankful for them.
Despite the long estimate, my kitty was taken in immediately since she was in a bad condition. Once she was stable she was added to the current waitlist. The cost was not too bad and they talked me through what was necessary and what could wait to be done at her primary vet. While I was unable to see them interacting with my pet, I saw the urgency with which they acted and that made me confident in their ability to help her.
The vets and vet techs at Austin Vet Care are empathetic, dedicated, and patient. Our dog was incredibly sick and, like any dog parent, we were freaking out. We absolutely would not have made it through this process without the support of the staff here. Every time I called in tears, the vets hurt and processed with me, no matter how busy they were or how late it was. They ran every treatment recommendation by one another to make sure they were making the right decisions every single step of the way. We will never be able to thank these people enough - I absolutely recommend them to everyone!
Thank you, Austin Vet Care Central Park! As the humans to 2 senior Standard Poodles, my husband & I appreciated the emergency care received when our male Standard, 12 years old, suddenly began have difficulty breathing, was in great distress, & was attempting to eat copious amounts of grass around 8 pm Friday night. The good folks at Austin Vet Care Central Park took him in immediately & gave him oxygen to stabilize him. We waited anxiously in our car (due to Covid precautions in case you’re reading this after the pandemic has ended) for word from a Vet. Dr. Millington soon called, gathered some additional information about the incident & then explained he thought it was likely that Lindsey had experienced a ‘reverse sneeze’, and that he seemed fine now. Great news! Because he’d thrown up in the car on the way, he suggested an anti vomit injection. Our experience ended happily and Lindsey is back to himself & doing well. 🙏 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Everyone was very friendly and concerned about my pet when I checked in. They were patient and understanding with the situation. I do wish that the doctor had called and spoken to me and not his technician.
Took my cat in for crystals late at night when he couldn’t pee. They worked with me on the estimate so in the end I payed $1,000 less than originally planned. They called me after surgery and twice a day to tell me how he was doing until I could being him home. They were very caring towards me and my cat. They even helped me out with all of his things to my car even during this pandemic.
I love the Vet and the staff. Was exceptionaltaking care of my dog. The wait was long.
All of the doctors are kind, patient, and understanding. I took my dog there at 2 AM after he had a very bad seizure, which he had never had before. The doctor and staff carefully explained everything and were kind and compassionate when I got upset at knowing I might have to put my guy down. I had such a great experience and was becoming dissatisfied with my regular vet that I canceled my Banfield pet plan and will continue to use Austin Vet Care. My doggo had another seizure and again the staff was kind and compaasionte all of the options were thoroughly explained. About a month later and after trying the last option of steroid medication (suspect my guy has a brain tumor) its like I have a brand new dog! I know the treatment will only help temporarily but the staff at this place made a really difficult and upsetting situation as low stress as possible. Pricing for care and medications is not outrageous either!
I just had my first visit there, and wanted to say that I am very impressed. Dr. Cotnam was very straight forward in his general assessment of my dog, Sam (something Ive never seem to able to get from any other vet), seemed very experienced, explained everything in depth, and was very open to any questions I had. The staff was also very welcoming and professional. I will be making Austin Vet Care my new vet.
Up until the point that we talked with the actual vet, i was about to give 1 star. Wait was super long, over 3 hrs and reception and vet tech were short and rude as if we were an inconvenience for an emergency visit. Vet tech sent my dog back out without any treatment and then when I called back in she was rude again told me the wrong info and it wasn’t until i demanded to speak with the vet that we got somewhere. Dr. Gwen, Rachel and Amber on the other hand were amazing! I’ve come to this vet several times and always loved the vets. Support staff on the other hand is just ok if not below average. Just make sure you talk to the vet and make sure they provide the treatment the vet orders, it’s very hard to tell when you can’t see what’s going on due to Covid procedures (which i totally understand) but I did almost drove off and paid for services not rendered because of a miscommunication and a rude tech. Don’t be afraid to make sure you get what the vet is ordering and push to be transferred if you’re not sure or don’t understand something, that’s what they are there for.
Took my dog in for nausea and vomiting associated with bladder stones. Wasnt sure if there was a blockage in her urethra while we waited for her cystotomy. The doctor gave her an exam and determined there was no blockage. I felt reassured that there was no issues/ that was 3 days ago and she is doing great. Price was great also at $81. The only thing I was unhappy with was the wait-about 2.5 hours, but thats at any er.
The vets and vet techs really care about the animals. My dog went in for an emergency/life threatening condition and the vet was so sweet and handled everything quickly so that he was stabilized and comfortable.
I spent a good deal of money here only to have a recurring problem with my puppy due to a series of oversights by both technicians and receptionists. My puppy had parasites that kept coming back - three rounds of it. After some cursory research online, I found it was most likely due to him eating fleas & I asked for a monthly flea / tick preventative multiple times on the phone and in person over the course of several visits here. I was not provided with this simple solution I asked for many times, which led to me spending way more than I intended for the same problem, only to end up scheduling a vet visit somewhere else. We did a fecal test on him, and he didnt test positive for tapeworms. There was a literal live tapeworm in the sample I provided and I had to insist he had them to get appropriate medication. On my third visit, the receptionist treated me with disdain and told me to return 24 hours later because she couldnt fill the prescription - even though I was told by them to come in to get my dog weighed for the appropriate dosage & pick up meds. I was confused and asked if there was anyone on site to fill the prescription, since I was told by their staff to come in for it. This seemed like a huge problem for her & she made me uncomfortable with her irritability. She did get the vet tech who filled the script in a minute, no problem at all. I dont know why I was treated this way, it was sort of frustrating. I know people might be having a bad day and give them the benefit of the doubt for that, but it was upsetting because my puppy was in discomfort due to the worms and it would have been such a simple solution all around. They did give me a months worth of flea/tick preventative for free and admitted the oversight on my fourth visit. I wouldnt have come to a clinic normally (which seems like its more for acute problems), but when covid regulations were intense not many vet places were accepting new clients.I would say this place is hit or miss. It seems good for other people which I appreciate. However, in my experience it was a frustrating waste of time and money.
Service was amazing! Having a puppy things can get scary but they calmed me down and took good care of my baby. Even though he peed all over them LOL
Amazing experience with emergency care for my dog! They set proper expectations for the wait time over the phone and did everything they could to get her seen promptly. Everyone we interacted with did their best to minimize the stress of having a sick fur baby! Very transparent and consultative about cost and treatment plan. Highly recommend!
Very friendly, caring and helpful!
Very transparent with their pricing and great at communicating. Took great care of my Aussie girl, they pulled splinters out of her mouth and flushed her eye. Every other hospital said they wouldn’t be able to perform surgery on her for several hours and this place said to bring her in as soon as possible. Dropped her off at 11pm and picked her up at 7am with all of the right medication.
HD had emergency neck surgery due to a bite in 2015, they still had him on record and I was able to get him attended to as we are visiting from El Paso. Love the care and fast attention and their COVID-19 protocols to keep pets and their humans safe. Worth the wait since you have to wait outside. A 5 star experience without a hassle. Thank you to ALL !!! This staff love their jobs as they are friendly and helpful.
First of all, Dr Lamkin was definitely one of the best veterinarians out there — she has so much experience and knowledge to understand the symptoms and the most likely illness causing these symptoms. It’s really sad I had to take him to a diff clinic and not have Dr Lamkin treat him. So, they quote me $680 for an X-ray and two blood tests for the initial diagnosis — which was fine with me. After analyzing the results Dr Lamkin went over the the treatment plan with me and asked her technician Mackenzie to go over the payment details. She was very rude and full of attitude — totally out of control! She quoted me a little over $5000 for the treatment plan— when I suggested if they could reduce the fees a bit, she told me it was an emergency clinic, so this was how it was — as if I’ve never been to any emergency before. She also wrote on the report — exact quote —“Reason for Visit: Owner states the respiratory symptoms started yesterday - owner states the P was gagging and gets nervous every time the owner tries to touch them - with me he is hard to understand and is not answering my questions directly“When I said I’m not continuing his treatment there, she abruptly ended the conversation. Then they wouldn’t tell me what was going on, then they took almost an hour to discharge him and was very rude to even tell me what they did. It didn’t matter that I just spent about $700 in just three hours — it seems they are too profitable to care for any of their clients. This is so full of nonsense— totally disrespectful, mean people ever. It’s really unfortunate a top veterinarian like Dr Lamkin works there.I took my dog to another emergency and they charged me less and more importantly were very kind and respectful.
Dr. Gwin is amazing! I have never been to AVC but she made me feel like my dog was a long time friend. Its always nice to have someone who treats you like you arent a stranger.Updating this because I tried to bring my dog in because she was having labored breathing and not moving. They informed me they were too busy to accept my dog, and recommended I drive to San Antonio. Of course I was not going to drive to San Antonio with my dog dying. I ended up calling Austin Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center. They were also busy, but immediately told me to bring her in. When I got there they immediately took my dog in to try and save her. I still believe Dr Gwin is an amazing vet. But I will no longer be using Austin Vet Care at Central Park.
I took my pup here as it was the closest emergency vet to my house. My dog was not even there for a full 24 hours and they charged $3500!! Most importantly, they did not save him. He needed an Ultrasound, which they only have access to twice a week. The vet convinced me he would likely be ok until the morning when the ultrasound tech was in, and she would put him on the top of the list for the next day. Well, he wasnt ok. He did not survive the night. For charging as much as they do, you would think they have 10 available ultrasounds ready at any time! Theres no telling at this point if the ultrasound would have saved my dog by providing the information needed to correctly intervene or not. However, I can definitely say I do not feel like they provided high quality care or judgement, and I would NOT recommend this vet to anyone. It was a huge mistake taking my dog here in an emergency situation.
The only reason I’m giving them a star is for the new guy at the front who was so kind to help me after this business tried turning me away when I had no where else to go. No one has a clue to what is going on and they are absolutely RUDE.The girl told me to head up to pick up my pup. I let them know ahead of time I was on a time crunch due to business related matters. I live not even 10 minutes from the clinic and I notified the technician of this so she is aware. She verified that my pup with the meds would be ready to go. I get here and wait over 30 minutes, am given bs reasoning to why it takes so long, and am hung up on by a technician. No one apologies for the bad behavior or anything. They screw you the eff over and take your money. Tbh they’d rather let your pet die or be sick AF then help anyone out who needs it. BE AWARE IF YOU CARE ABOUT THE WELL BEING OF YOUR ANIMAL AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE GD PLAGUE!!!You’ll thank me later. Take your fur babies, money, and time elsewhere.
Does not allow pre-registration over the phone. Expects you to wait in your car for 6+ hours in 100 degree heat with an injured animal. If you leave during those 6 hours you lose your place in line. (information they could have provided over the phone before I drove the hour to get there)
IS THIS REALLY WHO YOU WANT LOOKING AFTER YOUR LOVED FAMILY MEMBER? I showed up at 4;30PM and checked in. I had a sick dog in tow and the heat of the day posed a health concern to both Bobbitt and myself. I am already at a heightened health risk for COVID due to pre-existing conditions. The clinic provides no cover from the sun. The woman called me and informed me that I lost my place in line and NOT to leave the parking lot again. I would be placed at the end of the line when I returned. I told her nobody informed me of this policy when I first got there. My tough luck; no empathy, from this staff. Its easy to make harsh policies from an air conditioned office.
Expensive and they didnt treat my dog for what is wrong with him. 400$ now Im broke! Dont use them! Went there on a er visit for panting real hard and some other things.
-100*Dont trust them with your pet. They lie and manipulate to take advantage of people with sick dying animals. They DO offer payment plans but will tell you they dont so in the middle of the night you are forced to leave with a dying dog or sign over the dog so they can get the care they desperately need. Poor communication throughout the staff and terrible service. Drive 15 minutes South and go somewhere else!
This review goes to the nurse who attended my dog Spunky last night. I don’t remember her name but she has orange/red hair and more on the older side. Completely rude and unprofessional! I have no idea how she even has a job at a vet if she can’t speak in a professional manner at a job that customer service is a must. Telling me that “My dog is not important and there are other more important things to do” like what the heck is that? Every dog is important to their pet owner. They already had us waiting a whole hour and a half in total and she kept coming in and saying “20 minutes”. Oh, and to make matters worse I got there and the lobby was empty! I left because I felt angry and embarrassed and saw the parking lot was ALSO EMPTY!!! Crazy thing is, I’m a completely patient person, but this was way too much. Lazy staff and rude nurse! Don’t waste your time coming here.
Great experience - as great as hauling your pet across town in an emergency can be! My very naughty and smart lab puppy learned how to break out of his kennel and found a bag of trail mix that had RAISINS. We came home and weren’t sure which of our two dogs had eaten the raisins, so we took them both in. Decent wait time, but there was a significant emergency that came in after us that took precedence. The vet was very kind and thorough. I was especially impressed with the cost - it’s never going to be cheap, but they were very up front with the cost and didn’t try to get me to do anything (read: pay for) beyond inducing vomiting which was all that was necessary!!
Dr. Cotnam is always amazing!!
On an emergency basis, I brought a 21-year-old cat for euthanasia to Austin Vet Care at 4106 North Lamar. He was not in pain when we arrived. Euthanasia means good death. What we got from this place was trauma and pain, when what the animal needed was mercy and competence and a final peace. A technician over-shaved his paw and then repeatedly jabbed him, with no veterinarian present, unsuccessfully attempting to catheterize, with what seemed to me to be too huge a needle. I looked large enough for a big dog, and way to large for a cat. My animal was clearly in pain, until I made her stop and bring the doctor, who eventually arrived after yet another delay. Blood everywhere. Luckily I had refused to let the technician take my animal from me and into the back. I take the doctors word to be the truth: that this technician was one of their best nurses. If that is so, they have a problem. If I had friends or family who loved their pet, I would recommend that they take their pet anyplace else but here. Eventually we came to peace, but this was not what euthanasia is supposed to be.Two days later, I phoned Austin Vet Care in order to voice my concerns to the manager, owner, or medical director about the experience my cat had had here. I was told I would receive a return call. Hearing nothing after three days, I placed a second call. At the same time, I verified that my first call had been documented in my records. Now, four days later, Ive still heard nothing.Thus---So far as I know, nobody in a position of authority at Austin Vet Care has any idea what actually happened to my cat. And so far as I know, apparently nobody cares. In my view, if they cared to improve, they would want to look into what occurred. That isn’t the case here.
We’ve been here twice for emergency visits and the staff was very friendly and our dog was treated within an hour both times.
Fast and friendly. Great service. Came in after my dog was attacked - was provided with a good breakdown of treatment plans and corresponding price ranges & expert advice on tending for the wounds afterwards. Hopefully, wont need to come back anytime soon, but good to know theyre in the neighborhood for when things do happen.
Would give them less then 1 Star for sending me home with a BLANK CD DISK!!! What kind of Professionalism is this!! Really!! A blank cd!! Great Job!!
I wish I could give this place negative stars. I brought my cat in last week for an issue with her eye, looked like conjunctivitis. The trip cost around $250, and they whatever they gave her is not working, and instead of apologizing, they are demanding $55 to even look at her eye again. This is the worst customer service. The manager is calling me tomorrow to discuss so I will give them a chance to redeem themselves, and based on how it goes, I will update this post.
Our dog Cinder recently gave us a big scare after developing a volvulus requiring emergency surgery after hours. Dr. Hartmann and her team handled myself and my husband with such kindness as we navigated the situation amongst many tears. I will forever be grateful for this clinic and the fact that they saved our pups life.
Instead of caring for my injured cat, they took over a half an hour to change the cage door on her carrier to open the opposite direction, just for the laughs. They wanted to charge over $1100 to treat her open wound. We ended up paying over $500 for antibiotics, a bad hair cut, and a pain medication that turned out to be saline. They didnt even look for the other wounds I told them about beforehand, including an area on her neck. The 1/2 inch hole in her side was the only one they could barely find... These people care for your loved ones? They only seemed to care about taking an entire paycheck from a family with two little girls in the lobby. Maybe they can afford to spend that much in a night at their favorite club. We were hurting for quite a while after that. Go anywhere else, I would suggest going to a fast food chain for treatment before I would ever take an injured or sick anything to these dirt bags. Should have posted this a long time ago to save anyone the heartache. Sorry to those who fell into the same trap.
Excellent care of pet and the pets caretaker! Thank you!!
Well, visit started good then down hill. I was the first walk in and then I took backseat to other walk ins. I was not pleased. I had to have Nicole called twice to come wrap up my visit. The conversation turned to why did I own a dog if I could not afford to care for it. I did not need a lecture about this. I felt disrespected and she was rude by repeating it. She said she did not own a pet cause she cant afford one. I will not be back!
I wish I could give -00000000 stars!!!THIS PLACE IS COMPLETE TRASH!!!! AVOID TAKING YOUR PETS HERE!!!!! If you love your pets stay far away from this place as possible! I don’t even see how they’re still in business!
Ive always received great care for my dogs from the kind staff and vets at Austin Vet Care at Central Park. They have gone out of their way to make sure I understood everything that was going on, even during the pandemic. I would highly recommend them.
The people at this office are absolutely incredible. Ive had one pretty quick interaction with them, but it was SO perfect that I think were going to permanently switch vets over to @ Central Park. Our sweet little old lady dog had a tumor in her lung. It was found about two weeks ago, but her condition deteriorated extremely rapidly. We had an appointment with our regular vet for the next day, but all of a sudden she started coughing up a lot of blood. She was in horrible pain, every breath was agony. It was time.We called ahead and then rushed her in to AVC@Central Park to have her euthanized at about 2:30 AM. They were wonderful. Ive never been treated with such respect and compassion. The doctors and techs were obviously highly skilled, and everything went mercifully smoothly and quickly. They asked all the right questions about our wishes and granted all of them. They left us alone or comforted us or informed us when we needed, and they gave us all the info necessary. They took care of everything ahead of time so that we could just grieve our own way after and not have to worry about the awful logistics.I dont want to go into a lot of detail because it still hurts, but I am so grateful to the wonderful people at @Central Park. GO TO THEM. They will take care of you, and they will take care of your pets.
I Was told my dog was ok and it was nothing serious that she had just ate something that upset her stomach payed $700 for xrays and meds . The next day my dog couldn’t walk I took her to another vet & I was told she was gonna need a IVDD surgery. save your time & money not worth it . Really disappointed
Love the blanket response to all reviews that are negative. Then they add the persons name to make it seem personal
Everyone was very welcoming and sweet to my dog and I. I was so grateful that they were open and got us right in on a Sunday morning. The cost was very reasonable.
