The Westside Group in Austin - 6th Street West Apartments is one of properly management apartments near to downtown Austin and residents many residents there are tenants for more than 5 years. As the property management company in Central Austin, I believe they manage smaller yet older apartment communities near to UT Austins West Campus and North University. I saw their lease agreements are provided by TAA.

I am a Small Business that chose to spend $2,000 for a booth to attend the Texas Apartment Associations Education Conference & Lone Star Expo. It was to be held April 22-24, 2020 in Fort Worth, Texas.Unfortunately it will not take place in April due to this crazy Pandemic that everyone is facing right now all across the United States. The Texas Apartment Association has had my money paid in full since January 2020.In February it started looking like every major company was deciding to cancel their big planned get togethers. Our DirecTV and Stream company wide events that I am also a part of got called off early. The Texas Apartment Association has chosen a different approach. I guess they do not want to refund the money to a company like mine.In part, this is what the email we finally received from the TAA on 3/16 regarding our planned Expo in April stated....Because the health and safety of our Texas Apartment Association family is our first priority, we have made the decision to move the TAA Education Conference & Lone Star Expo to September 2-4 in Fort Worth. We realize this may create some challenges, but are committed to working with you to minimize any inconvenience. In addition to this decision that was made by the TAA, they also stated in the same email that they would offer a refund to Vendors like myself minus a $50 fee if they chose not to attend the September 2020 Expo.RegistrationsIf your team has already registered for the conference, your registration will be automatically transferred to the new dates. We have extended the cancellation deadline until July 31, 2020. All registrations are refundable (minus a $50 cancellation fee) until July 31, 2020. You may register in advance for the Conference through August 25, 2020. All registrants will receive an email today as well.I have now been trying to get my money back since 3/16 with absolutely no success since learning of this new date that was proposed that does not fit my schedule. I was promised a phone call by 5pm today from Lynn Fisher to let me know what she could get done to help me. I did not receive a phone call or email after talking with her early on 3/24/2020. I have been told on numerous occasions the TAA are working on a solution. All I know is that I can not attend the Expo in September. I need those funds that are mine to pay my bills and the people that work for me. I do not know how a company as large as the Texas Apartment Association is not doing the right thing here and looking out for their paying members in a time like this.I am truly frustrated and promised I would share my feelings on Social Media if a resolution was not presented to me by the end of business today. I am really disappointed in how this process has been handled and I believe there are other Vendors in the same boat as me that are getting the runaround too. Help me get the word out to others that are fighting this battle. Here are details involved in this on going situation below.Company: Connect My AptBooth #: 1503Booth Area: 10x10Booth: $2,000.00Order Total: $2,000.00 USDLynn Fisher, CMPVice President of Conference & ExhibitionTexas Apartment Association512/479-6252 [email protected]

I have had the privilege of seeing the lack of compassion from Francis Property Management. The Monte Cristo Apartments have been the victim of several car break-ins including my girlfriends car. What is to stop someone from breaking into my apartment? Their courtesy officer is only their to “lock the pool”. Why are we paying him? Police officers may come around once, maybe twice a week. All they do is just drive through and leave. I filed a police report, let the front office know. I told them that I no longer feel safe living their and would like to request an early termination to find another place to live where I feel safe. Their response? We are a fair housing community. Basically a blanketed statement saying we aren’t going to let you go, we want your money. Jocelyn Rivera, the Manager at the Monte Cristo sent me that over an email. I get it your a part of the Texas Apartment Association which is probably the least compassionate association their is. But for someone who has been an outstanding resident and no longer feels safe, and now has the bring in almost everything out of his car every night and everything back the following morning when he never had too, you could feel a bit more compassion for your residents. I’m definitely not renewing my lease and can’t wait to leave once my lease is up since they will not let me leave as soon as possible. I’ll just risk my safety for the months ahead. Francis Property most definitely does “not care”, unless it has to do with your money. That’s the only reason they care.

Like Hitler claiming everything he did was for the good of Germany........this organization works on the same level. They claim they do whats good for renters, but in reality they are all ANTI-tenant and PRO-landlord. EVERYTHING they say and do is for their own agenda, including taking payoffs from landlords to keep renters/tenants being used, abused, exploited, and defrauded. I havent met anyone or talked to any other tenant/renter since the 1980s that has EVER had anything positive happen for them from this organization.Heil TAA!!!

Hello, my name is Rume Ogbojo. I recently was a victim of a terrible situation. I had been with “The Edge at City Centre” since October of 2015. I had a roommate by the name of Andrew. Both of our names are on the lease, and nothing should be done without consent from tenants on the lease. I paid for the whole month of November, so I had until November 30, 2017 to get the rest of my belongings. I went there yesterday to collect my things and they already had the cleaning crew inside. I went to the leasing office and the informed time that they threw my belongings away. I had thousands of dollars of my belongings in that apartment that can now not be accounted for. They had my roommate sign a paper saying they could move forward with cleaning the apartment out but I never was informed, again we’re on a joint lease. The copy of the paper clearly has a space for me to sign and they moved forward without my signature. When I asked the leasing agent she said my roommate is the head of household which is impossible because we’re on a joint lease. I paid for the whole month so I had in until the end of the day on 11/30/2017 to collect my belongings! This is illegal! She also informed that they were moving someone in on 12/01/2017 which clearly shows they started cleaning way before my lease was up! Now I have to pay legal fees for a lawyer...but I’m doing what i have to do..smh

The apartments they manage have ridiculous guidelines and staff that is incapable of doing the simplest of things. My time at Inwood on the Park has been absolute hell and no one cares. This establishment and their associated apartments only care about screwing you out of money. Dont rent with any TAA apartments. Youll regret it.

Im in disbelief that TAA (Del Mar Apartments Houston TX) would not show a gesture of goodwill and passion as it relate to paying Sept 1 rent and the Hurricane situation in Texas. I understand that the decison is based on business needs however wheres the empathy? I could go on and rant about my dislikes of this place but.....Thank you for all you do TAA-Del Mar!

You have a apartment complex in Desoto tx by the name of Canyon Oaks who is destroying that community. The young lady by the name of Melinda she is seen as the apartment manager. She is stealing peoples money and threatening people of eviction if she doesnt get what she wants. She is even allowing drug activities to take place at that location someone should reach out to the owner. She will not provide any of the residents access to the property owner information. She even pretends she is the owner to avoid giving out the number so she wont get in trouble. Its sad and honestly the tenants feel helpless.

The TAA has inserted new language into all of its leases that gives Apartments the right to take your deposit if you omit any information at all on your lease, even information that is so minor its easy to forget it such as a traffic ticket, etc. When the TAA inserted that language, many apartments immediately started demanding deposits along with the initial application. These deposits can run well into the hundreds of dollars. They demand this of every single person who applies. The apartments now have a financial incentive to look for any discrepancy in the lease information, even those which are unintentional, to refuse to give back the deposits. They just keep them. How is this not theft? It is outright theft. The TAA has enabled some very fraudulent, unscrupulous behavior by the apartments by allowing them to have shields over them when they choose to engage in THEFT of their Tenants by stealing the tenants deposit when the tenant has been DENIED for the unit. Because again they now ask for all deposits UP FRONT with the initial application. The TAA is not at all for the tenant. THATS WHY THEY REFUSE TO EVEN SPEAK WITH TENANTS. The TAA, along with its Attorneys, only represent the apartments and their job is to throw every single possibility or situation into the language of the lease that allows apartments to be off the hook legally and financially for every situation that will occur, which financially rewards apartments by making it easy for them to STEAL from applicants by refusing to turn back deposits. For instance, the TAA Application will say Tell us about misdemeanors youve had in the past and a misdemeanor could be something as simple as a traffic violation. Now if youve lived in several cities and states, or you have had many traffic tickets there is a very good chance you may not remember them all. Technically, under the terms of the TAA lease the apartments can swipe your deposit if you leave off that minor detail and many of them are taking deposits over this minor detail. The TAA is one of the most cut throat and ruthless organizations out there.

Jenny Landon is correct. Read your lease carefully, every word, have it reviewed by a qualified professional. If a manager is prejudiced TAA has an arsenal of red-tape to enable them. At the time of signing your lease they must be active members of the TAA and the local apartment association; they must also give you a ten day written notice if they intend to move your vehicle. No person should have to lose their home due to one or two late payments, especially if the propertys owner/agents agreed to it in writing. You have the right to ask for the name and contact info of the title holder, and they cant refuse you that information. Lack of transparency is obvious when TAA itself doesnt offer a link for you to verify the owners active membership status or lack thereof, but they (TAA and local apartment assoc.) are obliged to provide you with a written affidavit stating either or regarding the membership status of the owner/property. If you want more advice check with your preferred attorney, this human would have to charge you a fee for more guidance. Prejudice and racism are evident in white majority properties. Take a few drives to your prospect rental location. What do you see? The same goes for a workplace. Disclaimer: Theres no association between Ms. Landon and this human other than common knowledge and ample awareness of the injustice allowed and enabled both by TAA, local and state authorities. Together, they collude to marginalize target populations. Prove me wrong by fixing the problem on behalf of the tenants. Words and actions change the world, right or wrong. Undo the wrong by separating tenants council to advocate for landlords or tenants, its unethical to serve both simultaneously. Why is it called tenants council? Its a disservice to the tenant community by ignoring all facts that afflict, marginalize, and harm fellow humans. Rent ceilings must be placed, no one gets a raise of twenty percent annually in order to (ideally) catch up with the market rate of multi-family housing and only by a meek margin. Market rate is a fantasy invented by the lords of corporate greed. Prove me wrong: FIX the problem, STOP the oppression.

I could not speak up anyone at the organization. I called and Jennifer the receptionist answered the phone and she was the most calloused, rudest woman I had ever spoken to. She refused to let me speak with her manager or anyone at the office. She refused to give me who was the director over this operation. She refused to give out the chain of command. She has been orders to act this way and that is apparent. If you are not a member of this non profit the chain of command wont even speak to you. Now let me tell you why I called. I live in Dallas tx. I dont live in an apartment unless it is one that does not use the TAA lease. Why? Because Im so sick and tired if hearing about all the people, mainly poor and minority, who are living in apartments that use the TAA lease and its language, who have had their cars taken in the middle of the night because they were in between paychecks or had just bought the car and needed time to get the registration, etc. And they went to bed and woke up and their vehicles were GONE. FOREVER. Because having an expired registration or inspection is against the language in the TAA lease. But these people are economically marginalized and very often they lose their vehicle forever. The tow companies come out every single night and they send out men with flashlights that go running around TAA Member apartments at 2 and 3 am in the mornings and they will tow your vehicle for anything. Many people are so poor they lose the vehicle outright to the tow company. This is immoral and unethical. I told a white cop the apartments were doing this and he didnt understand why non law enforcement would be pulling cars over this.if someone is a renter they should be allowed one parking spot at least. Their vehicle should not be towed if they need to wait until payday to pay for inspection or registration. So long as the vehicle is drivable. And not on bricked or with flat tires Etc. The TAA from all Ive heard and what Ive experienced is an organization that paves the way for landlords and its members to prey on vulnerable people. To absolutely disregard their well being. People please research this organization and find the stances it takes on renters. Its extremely hostile to renters and acts as the TAA members lawyer.
