I have visited here many times over the past several years. I drive almost an hour to come up from Landrum SC to get my haircut there. However after being turned away for the second time from what use to be a walk in only barber shop I have a hard time seeing as how I will ever be back again. I have a hard time justifying spending what “barbershops” charge for a haircut plus a hour drive time to be turned away at 2:30 from what they originally started as a walk in only shop. I do realize that Covid has changed the landscape of many businesses but I am done with this one. I will happily pay for a quality cut as well as tip my barber extremely well but not again at this establishment. The one thing that I do not agree with is having to book an appointment at a barber shop…they honestly should be walk in only which was one of the main reason that I made the nearly hour drive to spend my hard earned money there. I truly hope the owner see this and understands where I am coming from with my frustration. If you close at 3 you should satisfy your customers who get there before then. Also if you want to leave exactly at 3I would suggest getting another carrier maybe a desk job somewhere..:how would you feel walking into a restaurant 30 minutes before closed and being turned away. Not really a good business model in my opinion. With the appointments y’all have become like every other barber shopPopping up and I will spend my money with someone else from now on. At least then I don’t have to waste my time driving that far.

I wanted my neckline cleaned up a bit super last minute (I have a bob with an undercut) before an event, and they fit me in even though they were booked, and coudlnt have been sweeter. There was also a cute salon pup running around that I was able to love on. I will definitely be returning - but making an appointment next time!

You can’t beat this place for a men’s cut. Their COVID work is great. They cut around the mask and are sanitary. Eric is amazing and I’m always psyched with his cut. I’ve also had Tre and was really pleased. You can tell the quality of a men’s cut but how it looks a week later. It’s always still good. They’re friendly, talented, quick, and I can’t wait to be back for a pint once this pandemic is over.

When I called to confirm my appointment the person on the phone questioned me because I am a woman. They said you have short hair right? You know this is a barbershop? That made me feel uncomfortable and i felt like i wasnt welcome. When i showed the barber what i wanted he was rude about the picture i showed him saying we only have 30 mins to do this cut thats not possible. Never suggested something else instead. I felt as though the barber was rushing my cut. He charged me $36 which was more than the reservation suggestion. I felt uncomfortable and rushed and my hair is not lined correctly.

These guys know their stuff. As soon as I walked in, I was welcomed, offered a drink and taken straight back for an expert cut. The apprentice Jaxon who was there was exceptional. When in Asheville . . . . . . I usually try to plan my need for a haircut accordingly, so I can stop in at the Barber and Tap. I first found this place about five years ago, and have been hooked ever since. They always give a great cut, and really spoil you with the hot foam neck shave. I’m really surprised that more places don’t offer that, it seems so basic and reminiscent of an old fashioned barber.Being that I usually don’t plan that well ahead for these haircuts, my worst fear is when I walk in, they’re booked for a wedding party cut and shave.That’s a thing you know, especially with the bar serving up some cold beers !See y’all next time !

Had seen this place every time I was in Asheville for the last few years. Go to Malaprops 2 or 3 times on every trip. We come up twice a year. Decided to try it out ....as post covid my hair was a screaming mess. I booked an appointment on line (smooth process btw). I also requested first available on staff. I got Trae. I was seated exactly on time and he asked what I kind of cut I wanted. I sheepishly said Id love it if you just look at my head and cut my hair however you think it needs to be done, Ill trust you. My best decision this week. I will be back every time I visit Asheville. Thanks Guys!

I went in to get a simple undercut yesterday. I showed the guy what I wanted. He proceeded to do something completely different plus it turned out completely uneven at the top. Then he charged me $30....Ive never been charged that much for an undercut and its the worst one Ive ever had. Maybe it was because Im a female, but I know I will never let them touch my head again.

I have gone twice and will continue to go back to see Eric, who does a great job. Relaxed environment too.

I have been coming here for about 8 months now and I couldnt be happier. They are all very experienced so I am not concerned with who cuts my hair. The prices are fair and they are always very personable. I would definitely recommend this shop to anyone looking for a solid haircut at a good price.

Second (edit, was way worse when I got home. Officially THE WORST)worst haircut I have ever had. Got stuck with the new guy ( didn’t know that until after he started butchering my hair ) Asked for taper on the sides and straight back on top. He gave me a fade with a side part. And a bad one. Not sure what’s going on with the lawn mower job on the side. And the hair around my ears. And the long hair left in the back. Wouldn’t ever recommend this place.

Ive been coming to The Local Barber & Tap for a couple years now and its definitely one of my favorite places to be. The atmosphere is extremely pleasant and everyone who works there are awesome people. Ive got some pretty intense male pattern baldness going on, but have never been made to feel weird about coming in for buzz. While waiting I have seen people from all walks of life leave their chairs with amazing cuts, and Ive been in awe of the talent displayed by all of the barbers there.Within the past year or so Ive been razor shaving my head at home so Ive had less use for a barbershop. Over the last six months or so, though, Ive been growing out my beard and have had reason to stop in twice now for a beard trim. As luck would have it, Ive had Trey both times. The first time he gave me some really awesome tips about how to manage my beard at home. The second time I stopped in (just a few days ago) he ended up giving me the best beard trim OF MY LIFE! Yall, I look sexy as hell now and my confidence level is way higher than it has any right to be. I didnt know my face could do what its doing right now. Bald with this beard I feel like a gladiator or something.Ive never been one to have a specific go-to guy for my hair care needs--mostly because I dont have enough hair up top for it to really be an issue. Now I dont think I want anyone else touching my face, though. Treys my guy, and The Local Barber & Tap is my place. Get yourself there!

From the moment you enter the establishment and have your temperature checked you feel completely at ease and in good hands.The icing on the cake is that the haircut I got was exactly what I asked for, a perfect cut. This was my first visit to this shop and will now be the only shop for me in Asheville!

This was a very interesting barber shop and a new experience for myself. The atmosphere is great, with televisions and music to enjoy while getting your hair cut. They offer USB plug-ins for charging your phones or other devices and also have a bar to the side with local tap brews to enjoy as you wait for your haircut.The only negative feedback I have is the wait time and availability of the stylists if you come for a walk-in. They have several barbers on duty with different levels of experience so some are booked and less available than others. Also, the price was a bit high at $30 so I was a little disappointed when I noticed that other customers received a more thorough haircut/style than myself. Nevertheless, I tipped well and thanked the gentleman for his work. He did a good job but it felt a bit rushed. I don’t like when barbers/salons rush haircuts to get to the next in line. Barbers should always take their time if they want repeat customers.I may go back some day but I know that I could receive the same quality haircut for half the price elsewhere. I suppose their main attraction is the bar and entertainment available for customers while they wait.Overall; my visit was a positive experience. Came to Asheville for new years and was looking for a place to get a real haircut instead of great clips. Trey was cool and gave me a great cut. He faded my hair and and faded and squared my beard, it looks awesome and my girlfriend loves it as well. Ill have to find an excuse to make the six hour trip more frequently.

Best haircut of my life. The barber took his time and communicated extremely well. All the barbers knew their craft, and for the price I paid, I couldnt have asked for a better product. I highly recommend this spot for an excellent haircut, beard trim, and a shave.

I haven’t been but I sent my hubs here. He loved it. He hates getting his haircut and I’ve been cutting it for a while. Told him he needs to get a nice cut. My daughter and I gave him instructions cause otherwise he comes home looking like Bert from Sesame Street.He came home and looked great and they gave him some great tip and told him how to use products.He doesn’t do reviews so I had to at least give a shout out.

This is a great place to go if you are on the fence about a new barber. I, unlike most guys have no idea what I want from a hair cut and have some of the most unmanageable and hard to cut, to make it presentable, hair on the planet. Not to mention just about any place I went before also had a heck of a time with making my hair look somewhat presentable. I also do not cut my hair regular so about time I do I just about look like a homeless person.I read the reviews and chose Barber and Tap. Jon was the person who cut my hair the first time. I was very pleased and have continued to return to this establishment ever since for my haircuts, which is a first for me to return to the same place for a haircut and I will continue to go there while I live in this area.The staff is always welcoming, friendly and professional. I can only review Jon as he is the only one who has cut my hair and I wait on him to be free each time I go. Jon takes his time and does a very fine job asking questions, checking with you through out the haircut to make sure it is how you like and engaging in great conversation. It is always a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. After a few visits, they remember you and ask about how things are going which always makes you feel welcome.If you are like I was and you are in between barbers, you cant do wrong to go to Local Barber & Tap. Hair, No hair, Beards and everything in between these guys are great. Plus there is beer on tap. They are one of the highest rated for a reason you wont regret going.

If you like and over priced haircut this is your place. 50$ for haircut and beard trim. Still had to do some more trimming when I got home. Didn’t even trim my face just shaped my beard and called it a day. I do like the design of the place. Feels like a speak easy. But besides that not recommended to a friend.

Hands down best barber shop in the WNC! I’ve never left there disappointed or unsatisfied with the work they have done on me. Hot shaves and cold beer as they say, couldn’t get any more relaxing...Not to mention the ‘hard part’ they cut in which could slice through butter and the fade looks like it grows that way on its own. My husband has gotten his hair cut here a few times now and were very happy to go back! The customer service is always very good here. My husband got a cut he wasnt super pleased with one time, so he went back and explained it just didnt look right after washing it. They took care of it with no extra charge and they didnt act annoyed about it either.Were looking forward to coming back and getting him a spring cut soon! This is a great shop and any wait time you might have is worth it.

This place was by FAR.... the best barber shop Ive ever been to. The staff there were friendly and accommodating. For me to show only one picture to them and then cut my hair without taking a single pic at it while they cut it was nerve wracking. Is was a shoot in the dark for me for sure seeing as how Ive never been there. Not to mention that I had long hair and was chopping it off to the skin in parts. Great place for a hair cut, a shave and a beer. I walked in with way too much hair and walked out with just enough hair. As far as I know, theyre walk-in only, which is a great tactic to sell you a beer while you wait.

These guys really know what they are doing. I had a great experience and have had a ton of complements on my haircut since my visit. I really liked the classic barber shop vibe without feeling like I was at my grandpas barber. Im also glad to know that Im supporting a local business and have recommended it to friends who are looking for a quality cut. I will definitely be coming back.

My first experience was awesome! The guy second from the left did an amazing job that’s why I came back. The guy on the far right did a horrible 10 minute job and hacked my hair off and called it done. I am so upset! The place is great when you get a person that takes their time and does good work but not appointments and walk ins only means you get what you get.

Bottom Line: Great Location, nearby parking, easy to find, laid back atmosphere and you look good leaving! Ill be visiting again.The Nitty Gritty:I was looking for a local beard barber and came across these guys and a few others in the area. I decided to work my way through the few I found as I needed to get things trimmed up and started with The Local Barber and Tap. Now I dont have to worry about going to those other guys.A huge plus here is the 1/2 dozen beers on tap for under $6!! Nice selection too. This helps when the waits are long. No appointments so you WILL wait (unless youre camped outside the door when they open) so dont go getting all panties in a bunch when you have to hang out for 1/2 hour or more. Literally every time I get a haircut I love it .I describe what I want and the guys make it happen. Love the beer thing too. I went by the Local Barber & Tap for the 1st time yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere when I walked in. Jamie was my barber. He hooked me up with an outstanding hair cut. He shaved my neck with a str8 razor and then put some smell good on it. Man that takes me back to my childhood.It was a wonderful experience. Lots of chit chat between customers and the barbers. I look forward to my next visit.

Been here a few times before and enjoyed the experience and thought it was a place I could keep coming to for a nice beard trim, but not today. I always sign up for Tyler. After waiting an hour and a half and noticing that he was calling up customers that had come in after me, I went to the back to check the sign-in sheet and saw that my name had been crossed out. Jordan the owner was there and I asked him why I had been crossed out and left waiting, he didnt know why and tried to work me in right then. I had to go and couldnt wait anymore. Seems to be very poor customer care and not checking on why I had been sitting there for so long. If my simple beard trim is not worth your time then dont advertise that as part of your services.

I went in for a cut today. John cut my hair and it was the best cut ever! My wife said several times how impressed she was. I have not had a regular barber since I was 9 years old until today. I normally drive from place to place and stop where nobody is waiting....not anymore Id wait here and enjoy a beer in the meantime.

Local barber is awesome. Been getting my hair done by Jordan since before he opened the spot. I have ALWAYS been taking care of and treated with the utmost respect. They are very professional and kind. They get super busy sometimes but always do a good job. Like any business some people will on that rare occasion be unhappy or less than thrilled with their experience but thats how the cookie crumbles. Thats life. Ive always been more than pleased as have the people I have referred. I havent made a post yet because I felt like the barber shop spoke for itself but I saw the review about the guy whos been here for six generations or whatever. Im from here too and of all the places Ive been too this place treats me better than most and as good as any. Also, there were people here before your six generations etc. Thats the most irrelevant useless argument Ive heard for not being happy with a place. I mean come on dude. Do you really need to be pampered that badly.For the record I left this review without the knowledge or staff because I thought it needed to be said and Im not much of a walking on eggshells type of fella. Anywho, do yourself a favor and experience this shop. Its top notch for locals and visitors alike

I wish I lived closer to Asheville because this would be my barber shop. I came in when I was visiting and John gave me an excellent cut. I had a bad haircut a few weeks earlier and he was able to get everything even again and make it look like it should have the first time. He took the time to ask me what I wanted and it turned out great.Id highly recommend Local Barber and Tap!

After many years of cutting my beard by myself ( what a pain ) i was looking for a place to go to have someone do it for me . This place is the place to go!! Tyler is amazing and as a craftsman artist myself I am very picky. He is the first chair when you walk in and knows what he is doing and loves what he does for work. This is only the second to third time I have let anyone work with me on my beard and mustache. The barber all but cut off my mustache. My best advice is that when you are looking for a barber find a good verbal recommendation. The trim looked good, but it was not what I wanted. They took way too much off! I got a trim a few weeks ago from a woman at Asheville Barber and Beard. She wasnt as brazen with the clippers.

Oh man! I can’t rave enough about this place. If your looking for beard maintenance or styling there’s is no better place around. I came in uncertain, not quite knowing what I wanted and came out feeling great and looking sharp!!! I’ve been to more commercial barbers and left disappointed...not here. Oh and did I mention they have a tap room too! Seriously, I know it’s a little more expensive but it’s totally worth it!
