Safety with transporting a child is so important.I came to this location LESS THAN A WEEK AGO to purchase a car.I informed Carmax that I had a 7 hour drive back home with a 3 year old. I test drove the BMW, thankfully I have already had one before so I knew how to do the diagnostic. The diagnostic said the tire pressure was low for all 4 tires. I felt like that was strange since CARMAX writes their advertising up so nicely and states that they have thoroughly checked all of their cars. In my case, that was FALSE. I had an appointment to see the car so NO EFFORT was made into making sure this car was prepared for a test drive. The salesman assured me that it would be taken care of during the car detail. Thankfully, we made it back home safely. UNFORTUNATELY, as I went out to face 8:00 ATLANTA five lane traffic to take my child to school and go to work, this is what happened during my commute. Even with me pointing out the issue, and being told they would handle it, they sold the car to me with no care in the world about my safety and the car was falsely advertised because there is no way it went through a thorough inspection with a tire that was at 26.5 percent. All I asked was to correct the issue and for all the money they received, you would think I would not even have had to point this out. So, I spent my morning getting tires fixed instead of being on time for work as I should. This is why I go to dealerships to purchase my cars because they take pride in their brand. Im really disgusted that anyone would send a mother on a 7 hour trip with a small child knowing they had not ensured the cars safety. I left the salesmans name out of this because I do believe he told the other team what to do but they failed to complete the task. So now, I have to waste even more time reading NC Car Sales Laws. Ridiculous

They answered questions, prepared me for my buy visit and kept me up to date on my vehicle transfer status.Finally a straightforward car buying experience.

I may never buy a car anywhere else.....AMAZING experience! CarMax Wilmington made us feel like we were getting a sound vehicle that had been duly inspected & qualified as a good solid purchase. EASY sales process - nothing like the regular dealership go-around that goes back-and-forth(repeat many times) with the sales person & the guy behind the glass that only comes out to greet you once youve signed on the dotted line.....! This was SO much easier, SO much nicer and SO much faster! Additionally - SUPER EASY 24-hour test drive process. With good credit (around just 650) you can do everything online even & just sign a few papers when you get there. As a tip, you can deal with one person, or even multiple because its a pool type of bonus system....so while each individual might get credit for a sale, its not directly tied to commission as they all share this aspect.We would go back to CarMax in a heartbeat!*update after 3 weeks* 10 out of 5 stars!!! Went in for a small issue (tire) & SERVICE dept was PHENOMENAL - ADDITIONALLY; I witnessed 2 difficult customers in the lobby as I waited & this staff is freakin awesome! Handled people with such class & great attitude; Im just so dang impressed with this place!
I purchase a truck a month ago and the agent name Elisabeth Finley, sales rep did not have much knowledge of the vehicle. The brakes were bad and I am still waiting for the car manual after a month as she promise she was going to get it the same week. truck is running fine but not too found of their sales rep. Also she collected too much for tags etc. still waiting to see if they are going to refund me the money.

The trade in offer I got for my car at another dealer was criminally low, so I declined and decided I would try my luck selling the car online. After dealing with a variety of scammers and tire kickers I figured I would see what Carmax was offering considering my car was in exceptional condition for its age. They offered me 35% more than the first dealership and above the KBB private party value. If you are having a hard time selling your car I recommend getting an appraisal from carmax, you might be surprised at the offer.
I found the used SUV Chevy Tahoe that I wanted on the web. It was in Gastonia and in Carmax lot. Wilmington Carmax brought the vehicle here for me to survey. I checked it out and purchased it. After driving it to the NC mountains I discovered a transmission problem. Carmax now has the vehicle and says they will fix it. I’m confident they will. So far they have been great to deal with. I would recommend Carmax to anyone looking for a used vehicle.

I was hesitant at first buying a car because of the whole stigma of being haggled or somewhat harassed by a car salesman. I am pleased to say that was not the case with Brad. He was confident, professional, and friendly. He showed great knowledge in the vehicles when comparing and finding the one that best fit. Once I decided on a vehicle he was clear and concise when explaining financing and possible warranty options. Once the paperwork was done and I was just about to leave he went above and beyond. He cleaned the vehicle personally to ensure it was to his standards after it had already been detailed. He didn’t make me feel rushed at all and I appreciate that greatly. I felt I was really being assisted with the sale of my truck to Carmax. The entire transaction was relaxing and accommodating to me the client. Ms. Henson is certainly an asset to your company.
Everyone was friendly and very professional, however the car was dirty inside. I found hair ties, used plastic knife, trash and stains all over the seats that were easy to clean. The detail department is very lazy and could definitely do a more professional and through job.
I would like thank Jeremy in the service department In the rest of the employees at carmax I will have to say they have done a very very good job taking care of me making sure that Im in a car until my car gets fixed I have not had one issue with them I would recommend them over and over again I am excited that I chose them for my car purchased then a buy here pay here place 😀
This was an amazing car buying experience. From the initial request to transfer the car from Raleigh for a test drive to the final pick-up. Each and every person I spoke with at CarMax was friendly--and there was zero pressure to buy. We first worked with Autumn in the Wilmington NC office --who was super-sweet-- but she had the next day off so she set us up with Matt Taylor: the best car salesperson we have ever dealt with. Matt was so friendly, patient, and understanding, it sealed the deal on buying our car. We loved working with him. He answered every last question and if he didnt know the answer, he found out for us. I cannot say enough about Matt or CarMax in general. Seriously - no pressure. I would recommend this dealership to anyone and everyone who wants a good deal on a great car. When its time to trade in our second car, I know exactly where Im going! The people are friendly. And the cars are good quality. Thats the only positive. They will NOT negotiate on pricing, not a few hundred, not a couple thousand. They were willing to lose a sell over less than $2,000. They make you wait forever before you get any service and their interest rates for financing are RIDICULOUS!!! I dont recommend, and will not buy another vehicle from them.
Purely awesome!! They have arrived on the scene and taken over. The systems and processes that CarMax uses is far and above the standard. So many honest to goodness great people work there. The customer reps and service reps just do it different then the usual industry expectations, and it is AMAZING. If you are going anywhere else - YOU are wasting your time.
Truck broke down two days after purchasing with multiple issues, the truck is still in the shop after a whole week no one reaches out to keep me posted. I have had to call multiple time still getting nowhere! WORSE CAR BUYING EXPERIENCE EVER!

I sold my car there. They gave me top price for it and were fair in their assessment of the vehicle. I did the online estimate for my vehicle and they came back with in person assessment of the same price. I compared them to several other options and they paid more by a lot. Definitely I recommend.

Visited CarMax Wilmington with hopes of purchasing a vehicle from them. Walked in and was greeted by an employee who escorted myself and my associate outside. He told us “these are our cars. if you need anything or have any questions, you can just come get me from inside” and he left us out there alone to figure things out by ourselves😂 You have to laugh. I wound up purchasing a beautiful vehicle from Stevenson-Hendrick Honda the same day 😍

I had an excellent car buying experience. They were extremely helpful through the whole process. I had a vehicle transferred from another CarMax and setup a 24 hour test drive which all went smoothly. I purchased the vehicle and love it. The issue is after the purchase, there was a cosmetic issue and a repair order was placed. I received no call about it and followed up. I was told I would get a call. No call. I went by the store and they took my name, all I asked was to be kept in the loop. Still no call. I prefer the no commission approach because it was not stressful but I feel let down by the after purchase experience.
I had them ship a vehicle to my city for a test drive prior to possibly purchasing it. Car was said to have passed a 125 point inspection. Well when it came time to test drive on a hot evening the air conditioning was not working. So I rolled the windows down and took it out on the highway anyway but was unimpressed. No sale. I will point out that CarMax did the right thing and refunded the $99.00 I had paid to have the vehicle brought to my city from another location in my state. They seem eager to win customers. And the customers should be careful.
I found the car I wanted 2 hours away from where I live. I saw the option to have the vehicle transferred for no money down and no commitment to purchase. I was skeptical at first. But the advertisement was legitimate. The vehicle arrived 4 days earlier than expected. I test drove the vehicle on a Saturday and got a great offer on my trade in. I did not fill pressured into purchasing the vehicle but fell in love with it on the test drive! I had an excellent experience from strata to finish. I highly recommend the Wilmington dealership.
Looking at the big picture CarMax has a great selection of cars. Its hard to not find one youll like. I had mine shipped in from another dealership. Financing is really easy through them too, although you may want to secure your loan elsewhere to get a better rate.
I HATE car dealerships. My husband and I brought my car to get an offer on it and everyone was SO NICE and welcoming. They offered a great amount for my car. They even turned my husband around and he said they’re going to be his go to from now on!
My experience and CarMax in Wilmington went smoothly. I did the application online, and they were able to take my vehicle as a trade. there were some hiccups at the beginning but Derek, Doug, Tyler and Austin were awesome. I may do business with them in the future.

IMHO, using CarMax will be one of the best car purchasing options youll have. No hassles or pushy, commission incentive know it all salesmen. Resourceful CM reps answered all of my questions honestly. I dont have one complaint. Customer satisfaction appears to be their biggest goal. There are a multitude of perks buying a car from CarMax: competitive financing and roadside assistance are among them. My used car still has a new car smell and drives without issues. I am past pleased!

Brought our car to CarMax for an appraisal after a local new car dealership offered us what I felt to be a low offer. CarMax staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Had to wait a bit because they were very busy (next time I’ll make an appointment). Bottom line, CarMax offered $2500 over what I was offered on my trade by the new car dealership. Arrived at CarMax at appointed time. Doug pulled up the offer online, then reviewed actual features of car to confirm submitted info valid. CarMax agreed the info was correct and the online offer amount was valid. Paper work was completed, we were given a check for the value of the car and on our way in about 1 hr. total.Process went exactly as advertised, with no surprises or disappointments. Will use CarMax again.

The car I put in a request to test drive over 24hours in advance was filthy inside and covered in dog hair. I still liked the car for the most part and went in to talk about price as it was listed OVER kbb but the do not negotiate price. So FYI what vehicles are listed for is it no negotiation no wiggle room.
CarMax customer service is truly amazing. I ordered my vehicle- there was a delay in delivery- the Wilmington manager offered me complimentary gas for my vehicle and also refunded my transfer fee. The vehicle is exactly to my satisfaction and the finance and negotiation was hassle free. Educate yourself before shopping - but CarMax makes the process transparent and fair

People were friendly, trade in value was competitive, but process for selling the car took much longer than expected. We were told it would take 30 minutes and it took close to 2 hours. overall, it was good experience, just felt rushed by the end.

I recommend not buying from carmax in Wilmington. So I bought a car in October and it’s been nothing but problems. They never take the payment on time which has been a pain. My tire has been leaking air and we took it to a tire place well they had previously patched it and when I called they said well there no way to tell if it was patched before we got it in or if we patched it but I wasn’t even told about a patch. Then they said well our warranty doesn’t cover the tire even if you were in warranty. Well now I’m paying out of pocket for a new tire. Not to mention my aux battery having problems. Also they charge ridiculous interest even with good or great credit.
We took our car here to sell. Laura, our Customer Specialist, was very helpful and very thorough. After getting a price on our car, she helped us look through their inventory for a vehicle to purchase. She also set us up with a test drive. It was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend her.

Traded with these folks and never missed a payment for over 4 years. Had to file BKRTPY because of Covid. They stopped reporting my history after we filed and have never reported since. We even kept a truck trough the BK. They sold us a car after we got our discharge but jacked us up when we got there on the interest rate and would not finance themselves. They farriered it out and probably made money off the financing. What a reflexional of doing business with a so called place. Fair weather friend. Well the weather will never be fair anymore. We have purchased our last from them. They even ran a credit report??? why do that if you cant see the PERFECT payment history. Long term business relationship is a virtue that Carmax doesnt get. And they will not get anymore of my business. Thanks FAIR weather friend

Carmax was not helpful at all. For one they made us drive an hour and a half for an appointment in Wilmington when the car we wanted wasn’t even there. We had spoken on the phone with someone and they told us that the shipping of the car would be free, so we assumed the car would be there since they scheduled our appointment there. When our car arrived we drove another hour and a half for them to tell us we can’t get a car because my father is disabled and his name can’t be on the vehicle. They failed to mention this over the phone and at the last appointment we came to. Even though my mother would be driving the vehicle, they said that wouldn’t work even though my mother had a valid drivers license and her name is on the insurance. Time was wasted 100 percent. Would never go back here to get a car.

What a horrible experience with terrible customer service! We bought a vehicle less than 6 months ago and things have broke left and right. When calling to get these things fixed they’re saying there’s nothing they can do because it’s “out of the 90 day window and there were never any work orders placed.” This is odd since when we bought the car they promised to fix the two things that were already broke. I’ve made multiple calls over the last month and have received the run around each and every time. I’m tempted to come drop this car off at your door and walk away. I will never recommend you or use your business again.
I’ve only bought new cars since 1972 except one time in 1988 and that lasted 3 weeks. I would even get a stripped down base new car with a 4 speed manual, no power steering and no A/C (yes I’m that old) rather than take a chance again with a used car.Because of CarMax I have a different perspective now. The experience was superb in every way and the vehicle is spectacular. It is a very low mileage fleet car that is as good as new. The condition is that of a new car that’s less than a month old.I kept my 2013 Cadillac XTS for 7 1/2 years largely because I couldn’t stomach walking into a new car dealership again. Now I was forced to shop for a car and I picked up my dream car for $40K less than a new one. I may never buy a new car again thanks to CarMax. CarMax is a game changer for used car shopping. I know it sounds like I got paid for this but it’s really how I feel.

We walked away with the car we loved and a smile on our faces from the experience. We are now CarMax customers for life!
This was a very pleasant experience. The person that assisted me in purchasing my Nissan was very nice and helpful. I was also pleased with the trade in amount the Wilmington CarMax gave me. I had been to the Greenville, NC CarMax and they gave me a ridiculously low value for my Traverse. They said it was because of a possible fluid leak. I had it checked out by another car repair place and it was simple no cost to fix. Not thousands of dollars worth. I would definitely use the Wilmington CarMax in future purchases.

Seamless experience from a paperwork standpoint. Very organized. Very friendly staff all-around. Phone and text support is a great feature. I did have a couple of hiccups that could have been prevented with a little heads up. I personally didnt think at all to contact my bank before trying to make a substantial down payment. Its partially my fault for not checking with my bank ahead of time, but a reminder when inviting someone in for a test drive and potential sale would have been helpful. In the end that only cost me one day and was a minor inconvenience.The day we did the test drive, we noticed a tear in the tint on the passenger window of the car. They were kind enough to offer me $50 as long as I submit the receipt for the repair because they did not have the tools to apply tint, only to remove it. I agreed and said I would have it repaired and they would reimburse me up to $50. The following day when I went back to purchase the car the tint had been removed entirely due to a lack of communication on the matter between the team. They still offered me $50 towards the tint issue, but now Im paying to have it reapplied to both windows. $50 wont cover that. Im sure part of the $399 in administrative fees could, but this is literally my only complaint overall. Paying for part of the appearance of the car that was originally there and removed in error due to a miscommunication.The experience with staff was great. Everything was clear with paperwork and loan information. Expectations were properly set. They were great working with me and my credit. Best of all, theres no pressure put on you to purchase. They do not work individually on commission. Its very relaxing working with this team in Wilmington. Even with my frustrations over the tint issue, its a 5/5 buying experience. Be patient and wait for exactly what you want. The site is very user friendly. I hawked for months looking for what I wanted. Itll show up eventually. You wont find a smoother experience in town.

I had an overall, great CarMax experience. I was able to view several vehicles before I decided on a purchase. I bought a great vehicle at a fair, market price. I liked the fact that the price was a set price and I didnt have to negotiate with a salesman. I also was happy to be able to get some history of the vehicle. I discovered my vehicle was a leased, well maintained fleet vehicle. That was important information that made me confident in my purchase decision and price. I made three visits to the store and drove the vehicle away at my last visit.
