I love this place because the location is great for elderly. We have a trolley which takes you around the local area to shop and get your groceries. The hospitals surround us and you can be very independent if you dont have a car. The facility is owned by a church who is very kind and watches our well being. The management staff is very educated in running the building and keeping every thing running well. We also have a coordinator who helps the residence with guidance and helping us with our filing of certain documents and always helping elderly in the proper direction if they are in need. It is worth the wait to get in so apply asap and wait. Also St James is owned by the church and is under a HUD program. The list is long there too - but also good management.
This is a well run Independent Living apartment building for seniors 62+. It is affiliated with the Episcopal Church but you dont have to be Episcopalian to live here. The location is fabulous - great walkability score, the free trolley system can get you almost anywhere in the downtown area you need to go. My father at 93 is still living independently here and my husband and I moved here when I turned 62. Only downside for us is that they only have studio and one bedroom apartments, but thats also what makes it affordable.
This is a very old building. Presently, there is mold throughout. I had to discard 16 pairs of shoes, furniture and clothes. I also became ill due to the mold infestation. You see, the insulation around the plumbing from the ac units are worn and there is water leakage inside the walls from nearly every unit. This condition has been occurring over the years but the lack of proper maintenance has made it worse. The residents there are afraid to speak out for fear of reprisal from management. They are being bullied...not allowed to form a Tenant Association. Many are old or debilitated and claim they have nowhere else to go, or cant afford to move. I moved out immediately. Others have become ill. I was persistent in my reporting. Even after inspecting my apt and seeing the mold, management kept denying it was mold. That was an insult to my intelligence. After I stated I was going to see my doctor, they finally opened the walls, there was mold throughout. This was August 2 they are still attempting to make repairs on some apartments but not all. The upcoming storm may cause even more problems. I feel sorry for the residents there. Yes, its a great location but the building should be torn down. And hopefully better housing can be arranged for those who will be displaced. Also, they frequently have bed bug problems. Dont be fooled by the inter coastal location. Often that may contribute to the mold issue. The management team does not practice fair housing. They favour Hispanics because they, too, are Hispanic.
Great location, reasonable rent, very helpful staff. I love living here.
Very bad management. Not helpful to residence.Lack of maintenance causes residences to get very sick and even possibly die last year. Shame on the chruch that owns it for taking the seniors money and not upkeeping the ac system, elevators, structure or have a decent management team. They should be sued for what the put all the residents through last year - no ac 9 days (a guy even died) or elevator not working for months. Horrible
Couldnt be better. Great people and Location, Location, Location
Clean, safe in a wonderful location. This is a great place to live.
