This is home to me! I have been going here regularly for a couple of years now for pedicures plus foot massages. The technicians are friendly and love what they do. Customers are offered free water, wine, and delicious Vietnamese coffee, which is my favorite. On those rare occasions when there is a wait, I chose to wait!

My regular technician, Annie, was off the day I visited. I did not like the pedicure, so I did not get a manicure, even though, I needed one. She did not perform the service with the same care or attention as Annie does. Are all of the technicians licensed? The service she performed had me wondering if she was licensed. I will definitely go back, but only let Annie do my manicure and pedicure.

Great place on the Hill with wine and very nice staff. It can get busy, but they always keep things moving while still taking care for each individual. They also actually listen to any preferences as opposed to just doing the same thing w/ every client. They take walk-ins, but are usually quicker when you make an appt.

I usually go to Pen Nails and Spa on Pennsylvania Ave in Eastern Market and I love them. Never had any issues, love that they give a free drink (even wine) during service, and always get a good mani/pedi at a good price. However, I would NOT recommend them during the pandemic. Sure, they have plastic shields placed, but they are still seating every seat/station so there isn’t 6 ft between you and the other person next to you getting nails done; when my pedicure was done, they just literally wiped out the water basin - no spray, no sanitizer, no deep clean! They didn’t even spray the chair I was sitting in where I touched multiple times or the massager remote... which probably means they didn’t spray it after the person before me! 😖 also, while I was drying and the nail technicians were just hanging out in their stations they took their masks off - even though we were still inside, even though customers were still present, even though they weren’t in a back room or area they couldn’t be seen.I normally love them, but won’t be visiting there again.

I LOVE Pen Nails & Spa! I go every 4-6 weeks and am assisted immediately with excellent customer service. I have built relationships with several of the technicians who know my preferences. I receive great advice about maintaining the health of my nails, including suggestions of products I can purchase outside of Pen Nails, which is how I know that they are genuinely invested in customer service as opposed to simply trying to sell me more services. Cleanliness is incredibly important to me, especially as Ive had issues at other nail salons, and Pen Nails is by far the cleanest and most hygienic salon Ive frequented. During this national public health crisis with non-essential services closures, I truly regret not getting my nails done two weeks ago - Pen Nails will be my first visit out of quarantine!

Everything was fine until I went to pay. I tried using Apple Pay on my phone. I have plenty of money in my account, but it said declined. I assume it was a poor connection, but I don’t really care because I know my truth. It was then that the staff treated me differently. At first I asked if I could get cash, but I need my phone to do that. Nhuan V said that the store policy was to leave a phone. I offered leaving my passport, but they wouldnt take it. I called my boyfriend and he came and brought me a card. When he arrived he called asking me to meet him downstairs. I was on the phone clearly, going to meet him. My bag with passport still on the chair. At that point, Nhuan V blocked my way-- physically as if I was trying to leave without payment. Then my boyfriend gave the card to a female employee, she came upstairs and wouldnt hand me my own card. She just ran toward the machine with my card. The transaction went through immediately and even still I left a nice tip, probably shouldn’t have. I could tell they were waiting for it to be declined again. I would only go back because my nails look nice and the establishment has clearly made adjustments in light of COVID-19, but I didnt appreciate being treated like a criminal or a scammer.

As a 2 year customer, I want to give it five stars but it entirely depends on what nail tech you get. Yvonne and Anna are the only ones you should go to. I’ve gone here for two years and the last five times I have been extremely disappointed. Two common issues: My gel nails have chipped off completely in two to four days, or they will not accommodate your requests. One visit, I had made an appointment with Anna and arrived at the correct time, and found Anna not to be there. They put me with a random tech that did a very rushed job. The last time I went, I asked my tech to add an additional coat of white gel to my nails because you could still see my nail through the polish. He responded saying that he would not and blamed my nails for being uneven (but isn’t that what buffing is for?). a few days after, my nails chipped off in whole pieces. After that experience I knew it was time to find a new salon. Sad to see my business go elsewhere, but after five times of letdowns it’s time to move on. Everything is very rushed.

I was looking for somewhere close to my house that did gel manicures on the cheaper end, and found Pen Nails. The reviews seemed good so I gave them a last-minute call and they said to swing on down. All I can say is that I left very impressed and satisfied. Diana (she ROCKS!) did my nails, and put a lot of care and attention into cleaning the old gel off and applying the new one. Its been about 2 1/2 weeks as of writing this review, and seriously, aside from the unavoidable nail bed grow-out, my nails are in perfect condition. The gel never cracked and my nails still look fantastic. Honestly, this could probably last 3 weeks easily. Not to mention they give you a complimentary glass of wine!Id 100% recommend this salon. The staff is friendly, Diana has me hooked as a regular and the price is crazy affordable. A++

I have tried countless nail salons in the DC area, and I can confidently say that there is no place I trust more than Penn Nails. They are diligent, efficient and incredibly kind. They have a wide variety of nail colors and keep everything spotlessly clean. Plus, they offer complimentary drinks! Since discovering penn nails, I have been going there twice a month for the past 13 months and I wouldn’t go anywhere else. Zaya and Kathy are the best!!!

Atmosphere is nice, very clean and the techicians are professional. Not a lot of side bar chatter, which interrupts my relaxation. Tiffany or Kevin are great - their massages are amazing and my gels never chip. Although at first try, it took me going twice and leaving feeling less than satisfied before I found them. I think mostly everyone is good. Give them a try, theyre the best nail salon in that area.

This was the worst nail experience I’ve ever encountered. The staff was racist and did a horrible job. I felt degraded and less than the entire time I was at the shop. Not to mention, 3 of my nails broke in a matter of 5 days. I would NEVER recommend this place. The quality of work and service is absolutely horrible.

Last night I get there for a polish change the lady I had did the full on manicure.. whatever not that big of a deal. But then I got back to get my brows waxed (first time doing it here) and as she was working she kept putting the used wax sticks uncomfortably close to my head. Sure enough when she was done I sat up and a wax stick was stuck in my hair!! My heart dropped she tried to get it out I ended up going home and having to carefully peel it out. I still was charged full price just sort of blew my mind.

During Wednesdays manicure, the technician had to pour thinner into the polish bottle to have it go on correctly. Thursday I called to ask when was the best time to come in to have her correct the unprofessional way it looked? I was told by a male to come in on Sunday. When I arrived, I was met by 2 rude and aggressive males disputing my word and telling me a manicure is only good for 2 days. The third male confirmed that I had called (all non-English speaking back and forth conversation). I am a good tipper for good work. Even if I wasnt, I expect courteous service as a customer. Will not be returning, in my opinion NOT DCs best!

Pen Nails was anfantastic surprise! Once you go up the stairs, you’ll see a well-organized, clean space. The manager (I think he’s the manager) was very friendly and worked to have me quickly seated. I was then offered a beverage (I chose the red wine; the white is sweet). The lady who serviced me was polite and thorough. My gel mani was $30 and my pedi was $29 (I think; the total was $59). Average, for DC prices, but the service was the best I’ve seen in the area. Highly recommend!!!
