I was in last week just for a haircut, I was going pretty drastic (I had long hair down to my mid back and wanted to go short) she helped me to feel comfortable and did an amazing job giving me the style cut I was looking for. From there I knew I found a stylist I could continue to go to. Today I came in for a blonde balayage and she NAILED it! Gave me exactly what I was looking for a second time! 2021 My second review for Kim @Last Tangle: one year later, and Kim is still the best!Kim is a professional, dedicated to her work and committed to her clients! I am absolutely amazed by my new hair… the balayage, the color, the shape, the texture, EVERYTHING! I’ve been trying to get my dark black hair this shade of ash brown for the longest time. I tried three different stylists, and Kim is the first one that got it the exact shade of my dreams. The amazing part is it only took her one session, because she knew exactly what to do and how to get it done!!! Bonus, my hair feels so soft and voluminous, Kim only uses the best of best products! I will most definitely come back and see her!!2020Kim is the absolute best! To her, hair styling is not just a job, its an art! You can feel her passion for what she does in every move and every cut. Im new in town and desperately needed my hair done. Lets just say that I came in looking like a hot mess! My hair was over bleached and roots were growing out. Kim is the best stylist I’ve had in D.C. so far. It’s hard to find people who know how to cut curly hair correctly, and she does a phenomenal job. She also has an eye for coloring. She fixed my pandemic hair, and gave me a balayage that fits my complexion and features perfectly! Kim views her craft as an art form and is a lovely human to be around generally, so do yourself a favor and book with her!

I had been putting off a haircut for a long time and was anxious about making a big change. Kim at Last Tangle was the BEST hair stylist I have ever seen. Kim handles your COVID-19 concerns with great care and takes all precautions seriously. She even has a clever way for cutting your hair by taking the loop cords off your ears but still keeping your mask on. What is the main difference between Kim and other stylists? Walking out and feeling great about your haircut as it looks right then and knowing it will grow out and still look good. So many times before, stylists would cut my hair and it wouldnt look food until it grew back a little.Kim loves her work-- she loves her clients-- and she knows what shes doing. I found this place because I justo work across the street, I have been coming for 3 yers, I like to experiment a little with mu hair because I get bored of my style after awhile, It is a big difference between a hair cutter and a hair stylist, I just give my idea to Christina and she make the best of it with my hair.My wife is have been coning here to for over 2 years and she like it to.I try someone else in the salon one time And It wasn’t great so now I stick to Christina.

My stylist Ali was amazing. I needed a change, and he recommended a new style for my hair that I ended up loving. Salon follows all COVID procedures, the staff is friendly and professional, and managed to squeeze me in on short notice on a busy Saturday afternoon. Ill be going back!

Hi! I read all the glowing reviews and just had to check it out! Unfortunately- that was a huge mistake, and Im super happy I scheduled the consultation first to vet the place.Not only is the place dingy and grimy, but so are the personalities that work there. If they did not want me coming in at that time, then they should have spoken up when they called me to confirm the appointment. It was a waste of my time. I got no recommendations, I was rushed, and the hair dresser I met with was going to be on vacation for an undisclosed amount of time. They did not recommend anyone to trim nor color my hair. They made me take a rushed picture of a hair color suggestion - far too much effort for them to write it down for me! All around awful experience. I left feeling a bit humiliated.Please, dont waste your money on a business like this that treats people like gum on the bottom of their shoes. There are far kinder, better, and cleaner places to go.

I have been getting services from Jenny Waxing at Last Tangle. I asked Jenny and she said that the stylists at Last Tangle are excellent. So after my appointment with Jenny, I noticed a stylist with beautiful natural hair so I introduced myself and asked about her services. I made an appointment with Ola and went home to research the salon online. There were some detailed, excellent reviews.I was still a little nervous but by the time I got to the salon today. But once Ola and I started chatting, I felt really comfortable and I had the best hair experience ever. We discussed my hair concerns and options from a color perspective. As Ola worked on my hair, I closed my eyes and relaxed. From color, to shampoo, to conditioning to cut and styling, it was relaxing and fun. Ola was engaged, identified options, helped me understand what was best for my hair, explained options as she worked through each stage: color, cut and styling.I loved the end result! I asked Ola about the products she used and she talked me through how to use them to manage my hair effectively until my next appointment. Excellent color, cut and styling. Relaxing experience, which I never have at the hair salon. The salon schedules so that the stylist can focus on you. I was out within a couple of hours and it was such a great experience.So grateful to have found such a beautiful hair and color professional that it will be a pleasure to visit regularly for color and cut. Betty did my extensions for my wedding on 10/12. She did a great job and respected my hair throughout the process. I was nervous it might damage my hair but it didn’t and gave me the look I wanted. I decided to come back and see her for a trim last week and she did a great job. Thanks Betty.

My daughter and I have natural hair and I love that our time isnt wasted here. Nothing I hate more than sitting around at the hair salon for 3-4 hours. It is nice to be in and out in about 1.5 hours. Everyone is friendly and they make you feel welcome. There is a lot of hair knowledge in here too. Watching and listening to a client consultation as I write this. He is most patient with the guest in question. Its a collaborative effort between the two. He is giving both guidance snd suggestions. So, whatever youre looking for you can find it here. Last Tangle has a number of stylists, but if youre looking for an artist at the top of her craft, ask for Kim. Shes been doing my hair and occasionally nails for many years. She works with skill and precision providing a whole suite of hair styling services. I typically opt for a simple haircut, which is always perfect, but Kim has also done a fabulous job with color when I was feeling adventurous.

I was looking for someone to do hair extensions for me after deciding to let my hair grow out from a very short asymmetrical bob. After doing some research, I decided to try Betty at Last Tangle. It is the BEST hair decision Ive made in a while. Betty is fantastic and my extensions look great, very natural. I always get compliments on my hair.

I’ve been to numerous high end salons but I have yet to find another salon like Last Tangle. Betty is the BEST! She is an amazing hair stylist and colorist. I now have beautiful long blonde extensions that WONT damage my hair. Betty was so kind helping me remove the extensions that I had in (done by a different stylist and salon) and repair the damage that I suffered because of the glue. Betty was the only stylist who would even agree to work on my hair because of the extensions and how much glue the lady put in my hair. It took her 3 days 4 hour periods to get the extensions out of my hair. She stayed late for me. I appreciate Betty so much. She is a stylist that truly cares about your hair and wants to make sure it stays healthy. She is a color master and will match your color perfectly. Every time I walk in to the salon I am immediately greeted and they offer me tea water etc. Last Tangle cares about their clients. They don’t forget you, each time I come in I have a meaningful conversation with every employee there because they’re friendly. Go to Betty!!!! Go to Last Tangle!! You will feel great leaving the salon and you’ll feel your best. Additionally Jeff is polite and is extremely kind. He made me feel welcome in the salon and made sure I was happy. I cannot thank Betty enough, thank you for transforming my hair.

Anyone with naturally curly hair knows how nerve-wracking trying a new stylist can be, but I did my research and Kim came highly recommended. From the moment I sat in the chair she was everything you could ask for in a stylist-- friendly but honest, clearly knowledgable and experienced, and enthusiastic! She was absolutely meticulous in making sure my layers were even and dead ends were trimmed-- I wasnt in a rush so I enjoyed every minute of her special attention and easy conversation. She really gave every curl its best definition and I can confidently say she is a curly-capable stylist and a warm soul. Definitely will return, thank you Kim!

I found this salon through reviews, and THEY ARE TRUE. Kim is incredible with curls, and super friendly too! I went in with flattened-out, lifeless, long spirals after not cutting for a year, and so I let her do her thing. Now I came out with the bouncy, healthy 3a curls I love and had been missing! Definitely go see Kim for curls.

I have curly hair and went to go see Heather for a trim but then at the last minute added a blow dry. Heather is so knowledgeable and kind. Made me feel at ease for my 1st appointment and let me know what she was doing (shes very sensitive to cuting curly hair and understands that 1 inch curly is very different from 1 inch straight. I plan on going back to see her in 2019 for more blowouts and refresh my color

I was so excited to come to this salon after reading the reviews, and chose this salon because I have been having issues with my hair recently. I rarely give poor reviews, but I was not happy with my haircut here. I was excited about the consult the website focuses on, and thats why I decided to come here. The stylist did not seem interested in listening, didnt ask me any questions about if I was happy with what they were doing and seemed most focused on getting to their next client. Everyone was polite, but I have gotten better haircuts, and more time spent on my hair at other salons. Looking at reviews there may be a few great stylists here, but otherwise if youre someone who likes to spend wisely its better to go somewhere cheaper. The extra expense does not mean better results. I am pretty unhappy with my bland haircut and really want to give this salon one star, but know thats because I went in with such high expectations.

Hi! I came with very specific instructions about the color of my hair (numbers of the composition) and the specialists ignored that and used their own judgment and color choices. The final result was far from what I expected.Also, after trying to fix it, I had to wait for a long time to dry my hair, and it didnt make any sense for me. I spend more than 2h to do a single and easy process.

As a man with curly hair, I have a hard time finding good places to get my hair cut. No more!If you have curly hair, call Last Tangle and ask for Kim! I read a review from someone with curly hair who had a great experience with her, so I called and booked an appointment. Kim took the time to listen to me about what I wanted to do, and then spent more than an hour cutting my hair (it was long and hadnt been cut in a year)--starting with a dry, detail cut with scissors, followed by washing it, then another round of scissors, some styling and voila! One of the best haircuts I have ever had!

I had a wonderful experience with Jeff at Last Tangle! He was correcting a balayage gone wrong (from an out of state salon), and he did an amazing job and was so kind and welcoming to me as well. He even gave me a blow out to enjoy my new color even though I hadnt paid for one! Fantastic service all around, I highly recommend Last Tangle. Also I have to mention, Aida gives a heavenly shampoo & condition, I could have sat in that chair for hours!

I got a pretty awful haircut by one of the stylists. Showed my friend the cut (my hair is short so I couldn’t really see) and she told me to call the salon right away and get a refund. I called and they were so kind and helpful. Refunded me without question and the owner of the salon re-cut my hair the next day for free. It’s a big place with lots of stylists. I would just recommend making sure you request someone specific! Betty is really good, went to her previously.

Ive been going here on and off for about 4 years. What finally made me want to write a review was Ryan. He gave me the best cut Ive had in years. Not only was the cut great--exactly what I wanted, but he walked me through the process and asked me if it was okay periodically before doing anything too drastic. That makes me feel very comfortable and confident that Im getting a good cut. I will definitely be back (as long as he has room his schedule).

My experience here was great. I loved my stylist Betty, she was kind and adventurous. I wanted blue hair and thats what she did! She did a balayage and then dyed it blue. She also evened up the cut (which had been badly botched by another place months earlier). I have gotten so many compliments on the style and color! Now it is much lighter, but still lovely. I cant wait to go back and get another cut and perhaps a new color!

I have gotten my haircut here for a few years now. Very nice people. I happened to have Betty cut my hair my first time but now ask for her every time. Shes very nice, thoughtful, makes suggestions but always does the cut you ask for. The location is easy to get to for downtown and DuPont--it is downstairs so can be a little dreary but prices are decent.

Kim gave me the best haircut Ive had in years! I am a male with curly hair. Ever since I moved to the DMV area, I tried 5 different hair salons, with haircuts prices ranging from $25 to $120. People just dont know how to handle curly hair, I was disappointed every time. Kim knows exactly what she is doing. She was very attentive, wanted to figure out exactly what I am looking for and she delivered. Highly recommend!

I was not happy with my haircut at this salon. I came into the salon with long hair and after an initial consultation the hairdresser cut way more off than we had discussed. I now have what looks like short hair that I am not happy with and will take a long time to grow back!

I went to Last Tangle purely out of desperation after a horrendous cut. Ola immediately fixed me up, likely saw the panic in my eyes, and explained every step she took to make it better. Im cutting this way so it will lay flat, it needs to go a little shorter than your comfortable with, but thats so it will grow out exactly how you want, etc. I felt in very good hands and so I was. It was one of the best haircuts in my life and I recently returned for a session with Heather who did the exact same thing. She told me her hesitations about what I wanted based on my hair type and how I want my cut to grow out and then she gave me a great service, explaining why along the way.The staff here are very knowledgeable and will absolutely work with you on what you want in the consultation, ultimately giving you the style you want that works best for your hair and your goals. Amazing.

I really did love how my roots touch up came out, but they charged me extra because they had to use more dye. It’s not my fault I have more hair than most people, and also, they colored my entire head at one point! Very upset about that.

Heather did my hair and it was absolutely amazing! She taught me about my hair and that it was actually damaged in the back, which I didnt notice. She was very helpful, kind, and listened to me when I had questions about my curly hair. I cant say enough about how wonderful this place was and I hope more people visit.

This is a great salon. I see Ola, and she is the only person I will let touch my hair now. She rescued my hair after another place had ruined my color and almost left me bald. Now I get stopped by strangers complimenting my hair. 😁 Dont let just anyone mess with your hair unless you are willing to start investing in wigs to cover up other peoples mistakes and incompetence. You get what you pay for.

Kim Vo is brilliant! She cuts my hair, does my eyebrows and even manicures my feet and hands. My hair looks great, she actually managed to shape my eyebrows to my liking (no-one else can do this) and the nail polish she uses stays on for at least a month, and looks just as good as when she first put it on!

I had a great experience with Kim, who knows what she’s doing when it comes to cutting and coloring curly hair! I originally just booked a hair cut and during the process she showed me some balayage that she did on a woman with very similar hair texture and features. I never went lighter before, but decided to take the leap and book an appointment with her for ash blonde balayage. I am SO glad that I did and love my summer hair.Kim even managed to lift the color evenly, despite having had corrective color done about a year before (my hair has very warm notes to it, but is dark brown and I have dyed it multiple times with semi permanent black). I have lived in New York City but never gone back to the same stylist twice because I’m super picky about my hair. Then I moved to DC and needed a haircut, so scheduled an appt with Ola, and I’ve been going back to her for several months now for constant haircuts and bang trims. Been going to Sally at Last Tangle for years. Love, love, love her! Shes a genius with color and cuts hair perfectly as well! I drive in from upper Montgomery County, and wouldnt do that for a lesser stylist.

I have very thick hair and fear having a mom haircut, but like to keep it short. Sera gave me a trendy, blunt cut and managed to thin out the heavy brick of hair that had been weighing me down. The shampoo assistant was a pro, too, and everything was speedy but didn’t feel rushed.

This is NOT the place to go for a pedicure. The only pedicure chair was in a cramped closet that was so filthy it made my stomach turn. I almost walked out but felt bad for the technician. And it was $45!! To shell out fifty bucks for an experience I couldn’t wait to end just made me mad. I will never go back.

Newcomer to DC and I visited the salon based on the reviews and proximity to where I study. I just wanted to maintain my hair with a trim and fresh color before a big event. In the first conversation with the stylist we agreed to do more of a dramatic color change than I had initially planned for. I tend to be adventurous and not picky with my hair, and so I generally trust the judgement of professionals. Ive had my hair dyed pink on whim, and Ive been a redhead and a brunette over the years along with different variations of ombre and high/lowlights.After the first round appointment was done the stylist was not entirely satisfied with how it turned (and neither was I). She recommended that I come in a week later to touch it up, which I happily accepted.Ultimately, the services were okay but twice I have now left the salon not feeling great about my hair. An excessively honest friend admitted the the color/style was not bad but kinda awkward. Its disappointing given the reputation and cost of the establishment.

I really wanted to give this place 5 stars but DARN. DOUBLE DARN, I cant. I was in dire straits because I was at my regular salon, waiting for my turn when I got word that my stylist cancelled due to an unfortunate personal/life event. So, through the magic of Google (lol) I found Last Tangle. HAD I KNOWN WHAT WOULD HAPPEN, I WOULD HAVE WAITED FOR MY OWN STYLIST.I called them and explained what happened and they were happy to accommodate me at the last minute.When I got there, I got my stylist, Heather(?), very sweet until the styling commenced. Backstory- I have natural, African-American hair.My hair is not coarse, its very soft but very thick, curly/wavy.Lots of hair...like its WIDE. LOL Id explained to her that I hadnt set foot in a salon in about a year.I also told her that I am VERY self aware (i.e. I know I shouldnt have waited that long for a trim, but Im here now so lets do this).I asked for a shampoo, blowout, trim and style.So, she puts me in the bowl to shampoo me and takes out this paddle brush and the torture begins.Im sure in her mind this was detangling, but to me, it was torture.I detangle my own hair on a regular basis and my regular stylist (WHICH I SHOULD HAVE WAITED FOR, did I mention I should have waited for him) has as well and it NEVER hurts. Again, my hair IS very curly AND very thick but it is also VERY soft. There was no reason for her to treat my head this way; just mindlessly stroking harshly with a paddle brush over and over, rather than putting it into sections. She came highly recommended by the receptionist when I called, so I didnt say anything (WHICH I SHOULD HAVE), I just allowed her to proceed thinking its almost over, its ok.Next she says that she needs to do a special steam treatment that she learned in beauty school. UGH. Since she said it was necessary, I let her. Id never had this treatment before but I figured shes the professional, so lets do it. After she takes me out of the steamer, she brings be to her station and begins the blowdry. Remember, I told her that I knew I was in need of a trim, BADLY...like TOTALLY aware. I guess she forgot what I said because after she blow dried me, she proceeded to hair shame me for a good 10 minutes. I mean, just standing there talking about how damaged it was and how much shed have to cut (which only ended up being like an inch, totally dramatic, this lady) and she began to talk to other stylists about it LIKE I WASNT EVEN THERE. I got frustrated and said look, if you cant do anything with my hair, I will put it up in a ponytail, pay you for everything youve done so far and walk right out this door... When I said that, she finally decided to get to work. Im not used to this. Im used to a PROFESSIONAL. A PROFESSIONAL (ok, Ill just put his name out there because hes awesome - like CORNELIUS FROM BANG SALON METROPOLE) would NEVER shame me for my hair. A PROFESSIONAL would just assess the damage, let me know what needs to be done and then GET TO WORK. This is the whole reason Ive been loyal to Cornelius, because he NEVER treats me this way. He just takes care of whatever the situation is and I walk out looking great, end of story. But not this lady. She had to make a big, embarrassing production about it.So, she does the cut and the style and its good. Not spectacular (a little old school. She said Do you want a bob and I specifically told her no, yet thats what she gave me. It was a nice bob, but thats not what I asked for. I asked for layers. She should have just said she didnt know how to cut layers.), but she did a good job. Sp I was cool at first, considering it was last minute and she was new to my hair. I calmed down...UNTIL I GOT THE BILL. $150!!!!!! FOR WHAT????? I was annoyed! Bang salon is WAY nicer, WAY more upscale and Ive only been charged like $75! I gave her a $15 tip on top of the RIDICULOUS charge, because thats how I roll BUT THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED. Its not like I got color or something. Another case of price gauging for Af-Am hair. DISPICABLE.

I’ve always been satisfied with my haircuts and manicures. Robert once did my sister’s hair, and she loved it. The staff has been there for years, and all have happy clientele whenever I see them. The site is clean, with two restrooms for public use, a large reception area, and stylish décor.I’ve been a customer of this salon for 10 years (since 1998). While searching for a salon that specifically “treats” curly hair, I found two listed in the “Best Salons” annual issue of Washingtonian Magazine: The Last Tangle was one, and since it was around the corner from my job at the time, I thought Id try it.Location: The Last Tangle is nestled between a bank and a convenient car park (average of $7 parking for an average haircut – about 1 hour). The glass doors are almost hidden, and you immediately walk down a stairwell into the newly decorated salon. The shop has been recently modernized and remodeled, and now has two cutting areas, a coloring area/washing area, nail spa, and rooms for private treatments. I find it a relaxing, fun place to spend some time pampering myself.Walk-able from the Hilton Embassy Row, on other side of Dupont Circle. Metro Accessible via Farragut North, Dupont Circle south. Convenient parking on street or in two parking garages on the block.

I go to this salon solely because the stylist I go to works there. The place is spacious yet it feels crowded cause of the mess.

I always leave with a beautiful haircut and color by Danny, no wonder he is always in demand. I highly recommend Last Tangle.
