The Kennedy is extremely poor value. Staff are completely unhelpful and unavailable. Packages get regularly stolen despite having to pay a monthly fee for package lockers. Cars also get broken into repeatedly, including ours, even though you have to pay $200 for “secure” parking. Maintenance requests can take at least a week to fill, the staff are completely overwhelmed and unable to properly address problems. There are so many places to live in Seattle, don’t live here.
The Kennedy is an unsafe environment. This is something well know by management and tenants. There was a digital community message board that was removed when renters started to post about concerns about their safety. In my short time there I was burglarized twice and harassed by local intruders numerous times. The entire building complained of package theft and car prowling and successful break ins to the building. There were also other smaller issues like my dishwasher being broken for 3 months without repair, multiple maintenance requests unaddressed, promised amenities being closed or broken.I left the building in December for my business and personal safety. The building assessed $7400 in additional penalties to vacate. These are a combination of 200% rent penalty fee, duplicate rent through notice charges, duplicative cleaning fees and concession charge backs. Between the burglaries/ thefts lack of amenities when I need them, time lost, and the penalty charges it is not an exaggeration to say that this building cost me over $15,000 in negligence and predatory charges. There are many choices in Seattle. Do not rent here. You will regret it.
Notice a pattern in the google reviews here: they are either five stars (everything is great!) or one star (avoid at all costs). I can assure you that the only way a real living human would leave this building a five star review would be if they moved here directly from a mud-floored shack in Liberia.First of all, its smack in the middle of zombie-land. There are encampments all around this building and it is definitely not safe by first world standards, especially for women.Secondly, there is no door man or secure package room. If you get a package that doesnt fit in your mail box, it will be left on the lobby floor and promptly stolen. Perfect for a pandemic when everything you buy is from the internet! The parking garage also has no attendant. You can expect to find your car smashed and burglarized on a fairly regular basis. You would literally be better of parking on the streets, where there are at least street lights and potential witnesses. Inside the garage at the Kennedy Building? Its an all you can steal buffet, open all night, every night. When you take trash out from your apartment, you dont bring it to a trash chute: you just leave it outside your door in the hallway. This is very convenient, actually, especially if you enjoy the permanent smell of weed smoke and hot garbage in your corridors. And last but not least, this is a classic, grade A, USDA choice predatory landlord. There is not a single thing they will do for you that wont cost you your deposit, and god help you if you realize you need to leave this building for any reason whatsoever before your lease is up. Youll get hit with a massive five-figure bill. Were talking the kind of slum lording that would make Jared Kushner blush.Long story short, save yourself a protracted terrible and expensive experience and avoid this building (and any other UDR properties) at any and all costs.
This building is really nice and management is exceptional! We really enjoyed our time living here.
I really enjoy living here. Coming home is enjoyable. The view is incredible. The apartments stay warm, we barely need the heat on. They have nightly trash and recycle pickup, which is amazing. The gym here is great and the staff are super friendly. Super happy to be living here!
The Kennedy is the best place I have been living in so far in Seattle. The building offers awesome features and it’s location makes it convenient in many ways. I have never complained from the day I moved in while enjoying a staff that is always willing to help. I would definitely recommend the Kennedy building to a friend.
I love this location! My friend stays at these apartments and I go out of my way to find reasons to visit. They are well kept and spacious, plus the staff is very friendly. My personal favorite is staging get-togethers on the rooftop lounge. Once my lease is up, the Kennedy Building is high on my list of prospects!
Ive had a lovely time living here for the past half year! Umieko and Jennifer are the nicest building managers Ive ever had and they do a great job working with you to make you feel at home. Maintenance is prompt and my apartment is super cozy. 10/10 would live here again :)
Looking for a place to rent in Seattle is slowly becoming a fools errand. I toured this place a while back with one of the leasing agents, I think her name was Umeeko? She was pretty friendly, and answered the same questions Im sure she does all the time.Out of all the places I cant afford right now, The Kennedy definitely stood out. The apartments themselves were great, loved the lofts especially, but the view from the roof was amazing, and the location was perfect for someone who doesnt have a car.If my finances improve, i know where i will look first to rent.
Awesome location, facilities are well managed and the environment is extremely welcoming. I moved in a little less than 2 weeks ago and have absolutely loved each and every minute here.
The Kennedy building has been a great place to live. It is spacious, with many facilities, and a wonderful staff. It’s always a joy to pass by Umieko who seems to be welcoming and happy!
Umieko is the best! She made selecting the perfect apartment and moving in a breeze. We are very happy with our new living situation.
I currently live at the Kennedy and enjoy it! I am pretty surprised at the bad reviews for this place. In short, the Kennedy is on the pricey side (expect to pay $2000+ monthly) but it is the best apartment complex for this price range in the U-District (better than Identity, Studio 7, Ava, etc.). They offer free printing services, free coffee, and temporary guest parking in the garage. The rooftop is also really nice as they just remodeled everything (bbqs, couches, movie screening, etc.).Pros:- Good Size Apartments for the Price- Friendly Management- Parking Garage / Guest Parking- Dope Rooftop- Free Coffee / Printing- Pet Friendly- Close to 44 BusCons:- On the Expensive Side- Trash Service too Expensive- Gym Sucks (but it is 24 hour)- Dog Poop in Courtyard- Some Unfriendly ResidentsId recommend this place if your price range is above $1700/mo and your looking to live in the U-District. Great place especially for young couples.
Conveniently located near bus stops that can take you to UW campus. Campus is 10 mins walking. Maintenance and Staff are friendly and resourceful . The roof top is amazing!
Great friendly staff! Everyone always goes the extra mile for residents! My son has had nothing but great experiences! I recommend to any parents looking for housing for their UW students!
Well managed building but unfair chairges and poor amenities:-Lots of charges with unsubstantiated claims, eg deposit not returned in full despite having paid additional cleaning fee, arbitrary utilities,...-Hallway always smells like trash because of trash pickup system-Elevator wait can be +10min because only 2-Poor amenities in apartment (no microwave, old refrigerator/dishwasher, laminated countertops)
Recently toured the place. The tour was excellent and very informative. 5 stars customer service over the phone as well. Answers all type of questions you could have.
The staff arranged an amazing rooftop, carnival event in September! The day was beautiful and there was opportunity to connect with vendors, meet neighbors and enjoy great food! THANKS!!!
Me and my gf were shopping for a new apartment down south. A friend recommended this place So we had to stop by and check it out. While we were there the front desk amd concierge were very very warm and welcoming.
I primarily chose to live at the Kennedy Building because of the safe and kind social environment that the leasing and maintenance staff cultivate. If you care a lot about the emotional atmosphere and the people you choose to surround yourself with, this place certainly makes the cut.
Typical greedy & cunning corporation. I cant remember how many times I had to email the leasing office to drop these vaguely labeled charges, and so many duplicate charges made by mistake. Just because there are lots of rich college kids living in the building not concerned about what theyre being charged, the company is taking advantage of everybody residing here.
Called their number, was answered with a recorded message saying that their number was out of order and to try back later. Called back 3 hours later and someone answered. I said that I wanted to ask about an ad I saw on Craigslist for a unit (see photo). Man on phone very rudely lectured me about how they don’t post listings on Craigslist and that this ad must be fake. Yeah, sure. The leasing office apparently only meets with you if you have an appointment so don’t bother stopping by if you just want to ask a question.Edit: Definitely did call the right place. So either:1) You have listed the wrong number on craigslist and I called that person who posed as a Kennedy employeeor2) The guy on the phone gave me the wrong information
Umieko Lowe was the best part about living at The Kennedy building. She was a great tour guide for the building, was always helpful when we needed to ask questions, and provided commendable service. While the building itself could use some improvements, Umieko made The Kennedy a great building to live in.
Great staff, like that you can use UDR guest suites in any area. There is one over across the street at their sister property Lightbox when visiting family comes.
The worst management. No consideration for tenants. Over priced for the quality and amenities. If thinking about moving here do not do it. I would rate it negative stars if possible.
Think twice before you move in, because this apartment will do everything not return your deposit. I subleased from someone else. When I move out, the office shamelessly deducts 700$ from my deposit for a carpet renew. And 150$ for cleaning, even if we disinfected every corner.
They will renovate the apartment using your deposit, so dont expect to get them back when you leave.
The building is poorly maintained. The hallways smell disgusting after they pickup the garbage. No one bothers to pick up the garbage by the 9th Ave entrance after its been overflowing for days.
Friendly staff, quick fixes to maintenance requests, nice place to live in the U district
The Kennedy is excellently situated to UW and shops/shopping. The best part to Kennedy is the front office manager, Umieko! She is ulta-professional, super friendly, accommodating, speedily replies to emails and has excellent PR skills! Brava Umieko!
When I moved out this place straight up robbed me. They had added bogus charges that added up to $630. When I asked them to show why I was charged this they were not helpful at all. See email...
Terrible terrible really terrible!!!!!!! The price is incredibly high for the quality you get. Everything is old! the appliance the floor. We can always always!!! hear people walking upstairs!!!! Because the structure of the building. We pay 2600 dollars each month for the 2b2b but cant even have one night of good sleep because of the annoying sound. We reported to the office, they just say they will contact with the unit upstairs. But people upstairs cant really do anything. Can they not walk?? Terrible apartment. Dont live there
Very nice building with friendly people.
Outstanding management is what makes this complex shine
Ridiculous garbage fee: got fined $125 because of not putting garbage bag in the trash bin.
Nice apartment
Excellent
It is the best apartment around uw in my mind! This is the best apartment around Huada, no one!
