Recently received a haircut and beard trim from H. Getting my hair cut is always an anxious experience for me - no one likes a bad cut! H was very accommodating and listened to my concerns. They gave me a brilliant cut and beard trim and I was very happy with the end result. Definitely recommend H as a barber!

The People’s Barber was great. The service was fantastic. I’ve had H Payne who gave me the perfect hairstyle. My first real change in years. And then I got Lily who did a great job following H Payne’s work. And she threw in a hair wash which was nice. Prices are higher than most but not craZy high. And you get free complimentary beverages including beer.

Spent over an hour on the phone trying to find a barbershop where I could walk in everything in downtown San Francisco was by appointment only and super overpriced… sadly went to People’s and despite the nice interior and free beer/wine I ended up getting a bad haircut (a fade and beard trim) for $80, no hot towel straight razor shave either. Got back to the hotel and went to look in the mirror and I noticed my sideburns were not evenly faded. Line showing on one side fade not blended in on left sideburn :(It would have been ZERO stars but 2 stars because my barber did seem like a genuinely nice and polite person. I’m from Miami and for $30 you can get so much of a better haircut, fade and straight razor hot towel warm lather shave. Really disappointed with San Francisco’s overpriced subpar service.

Today, was the grand re-opening of The People’s Barber & Shop on Valencia (321 Valencia Street) in the Mission District. People’s Barber & Shop have three (3) locations in the San Francisco (Polk, Townsend, and Valencia) and one (1) shop in Oakland. As with any good “re-opening,” the professionals at People’s hosted a barber industry party. The party featured two (2) guest barbers; Jake Shipwreck and Scott Famos Ramos, live demonstrations, hair models, free food and giveaways. The Valencia location is clean, has plenty of chairs, three hair washing stations, and plenty of amazing products. Some of the unique components of the shop is that walk-in’s are welcome, hotel towel service, and complimentary beverages. You can also do online appointments through their website. The costs of the cuts are expensive, so be aware! A hair cut will rub anywhere between $40 - $50. My barber’s name was Chris (see picture) and he normally cuts at the Valencia location on Wednesday’s and Thursday’s. Chris was an amazing barber, whose attention to detail is exactly what you want in a barber. He’s skilled with the clippers and razor. As a black man in San Francisco there aren’t too many barbers that can cut “black hair,” the right way. I definitely recommend Chris if you’re in need of a barber!

At first I was a bit dubious of this barber but they are very professional and the barbers are clearly very very experienced. The whole booking process was seamless I had a hot towel shave which all in all was very good value for money. They leave your skin supersmooth. I do not have a haircut but their haircuts being performed around me were very impressive. The barbers here clearly know how to work a set of clippers :-)

I happened to be a customer since high school, no longer after the abysmal service. Looking for a haircut, I was given a buzzcut - literally just shaved the sides of my head and called it a new look. This on any other day would be an expensive bad haircut, nothing necessarily out of the ordinary for Peoples. However it was when I called to get answers on the matter that I was treated harshly by whoever operates the cash register/phone. I had to call three times to figure how much things costed. They kept mixing words, and eventually hung up after refusing to print/send a receipt. By the end of it, I called simply to ask them to remove me from whatever file they keep of customers to which the person on the phone was also unable to do. Its been going downhill, but nowadays for the services they offer its almost offensive how much they ask for. Youre better off cutting money with hair clippers.

I found this barber shop driving past Polk Street. I checked out the website, and was able to book online. An awesome feature that they offer is the ability to directly link to instagram profiles of the hair artists. I perused around the instagram profiles and decided that I liked Hs vibe. It was easy to book online. When I arrived, I was a couple minutes early. They had me wait outside, which I liked because of proximity to others. Once inside, the place was socially distanced, clean, and trendy. The front desk staff was alert, welcoming, and definitely flashed a smile, I could tell even with a mask covering. = ) H has great energy! H Gave me an awesome cut, great conversation, and some styling tips. I got home and my boyfriend immediately complimented my fresh cut. I will definitely be back! They offer a discount for healthcare professionals which is a great way of saying thank you during these crazy times.

Its literally not fixable, not what I asked for and so uneven it looks like an 8 year-old did it.The owner will always reply your bad reviews by trying to convince you of how their barbers are the best around, instead of actually looking into what may be wrong with them and giving them further training. Hell make you feel like you dont know what your own hair is supposed to look like after a lifetime of better haircuts elsewhere. Most expensive haircut Ive ever had and possibly the worst in years. I feel like whatever instructions were given were ignored. Also asking is the length okay after youve been scalped is far too late. After showing how much I wanted off and then also specifying about an inch... 2.5 inches were taken off. long fringe short sides and some off the top my fridge is now the shortest part of my hair. Also considering all I needed was a shorter version of the haircut I had it doesnt take a genius to figure out. I cut my own hair for 8 years up until recently I literally couldve (and have on multiple occasions) done a better job myself with a handful of mirrors. I dont care about beer or hot towels, I can wash my own hair, all I wanted was a simple but good haircut. Some of the techniques used were also questionable.

Honestly, was from out of town, the first Barber didnt cut a flat top, so they got someone who was working reception to cut my hair. There was a bald spot just over my ear, I wasnt edged out, he didnt listen to what I wanted for my length...I wanted only half an inch left and I got over two inches. He thought I wanted a high top, something completely different. The fade didnt blend properly...I could go on. I am a barber from out of town, and think that this experience goes to show what this shop is about...$$$ over service. The established barbers were doing good work though, and the people were kind. The haircut, however, was one of the worst Ive had in recent years. I had to recut it myself, just so that I could walk down the street with my head up. And I wasnt the only one there that didnt get a good service. There was another gentleman waiting for a simple skin to 2 fade that he had gotten which didnt blend properly. So...if you want precision work, know your barber here, or perhaps check out somewhere else.

Review №100

This is my favorite place to get my haircut in SF. The staff is very friendly, they offer you a beer or other beverage while you wait, and they always do a rockin job. I always go to Lauren, but have had my hair cut by several members of the staff and I always leave satisfied. Classy place, classy cut, and well worth the price of the cut!
