Really great long-standing, local, minority-owned, family-run place. A staple of the Woodstock neighborhood. Theavy and team at Mae’s are just the nicest, most down to earth people. Great quality and precise haircut at a really affordable rate. No frills, no pretense, just super welcoming and friendly. We chuckled about how I needed to get a professional haircut again now that I’m going back into the office for work after working from home for so long.
Great Cut .. Friendly Service, Awesome.
Got a great haircut. Prices are reasonable and appropriate. Proprietor was friendly and professional, with an amazing and heroic life story. Started out a refugee in southeast asia in the mid 70s, and now him and his wife own businesses here and do mission work. Really cool guy!
Very safe and professional and reasonable price haircut!
Shes very skilled and gave me one of the only haircuts Ive liked off the bat. I think she has a real knack for understanding how each persons hair works (weight, silkiness, etc.) I would bring a picture, though, because her English isnt perfect. I tacked off one star because the cut was slightly shorter than what I asked for, but no biggie. Still happy with the cut.Edit: She also doesnt force you to small-talk if you dont want to, which is a big plus for me. Great 15 dollar cut.
Found a $15.00 cut in Portland and its better than every modern man place in town. Mae and I joked about barber shop cigars and cheap beer with hair in it while she gave me a meticulous fade and a clean cut. Extremely hard working, personable and community oriented hair dresser. Make sure you know what you want, she wants to hear exact details and will make it happen. Will always go to Maes!
Absolutely wonderful little hole in the wall. It is just Mae and thats it. She was precise with my hair, not afraid to laugh and even give me some tips around town for hiking since i am new to Portland. Definitely earned a repeating customer.
Quick, easy to get in, and a great experience overall. Mae did an awesome job with my hair which hadn’t been cut in over 4 months. Definitely going to come back here.
Decided I would try Maes since it was close and had some pretty good reviews. Hours were 9AM - 6PM, Monday - Friday. Got there right at 9 on a Friday because I had errands to do after my haircut. At 9:10, the place was still dark and no one in sight. Sorry to say, left and will try another shop that keeps their hours.
Mae is the only person that cuts my hair. Ive tried others and have had some terrible luck finding someone who understands how to cut my hair without making it stand straight up.I appreciate her consistent quality workmanship. ... or work - woman - ship as the case may be. :)
With Woodstock changing so fast, I get concerned for places like Maes. Dont get me wrong, New Seasons and Double Mountain are new additions that I welcome wholeheartedly but I hope were able to preserve some of the traditional aesthetic to which Maes Barbershop belongs (read: Bi-Mart, Ace Hardeware). Its not fancy/polished shop; its an unassuming hole-in-the wall barbershop owned and operated by Mae (not her real name) who gives very good, perfectly consistent haircuts at a price that is as throwback as is the existence of her shop itself. In a city awash with $25 haircuts, Maes is a bastion of reasonable pricing and she does a terrific job. Please consdier giving her a chance and lets keep her on Woodstock for years to come!
Loved it here! Great price great haircut and great lady who did my hair too! Definitely going back. You should too!
Good for a quick cheap haircut but nothing fancy
I only go here. Best haircut Ive been able to get in town
No frills but a really good haircut for a very fair price. Friendly service as well.
Great for boys haircuts. Does a great job on my sons very straight dark blond hair.
Haircut was better than most hipster shops Ive been to
Great haircut, Mae works quickly and carefully.
