My experience with this place was not awesome my braid lasted about ten minute before I notice my hair was coming out the braid,return few times to get my hair Re-braid it and the girl refused to fix the problem with my hair I can honest say that I won’t never get my hair done there. Need better hair technician when it comes to braiding all kind ethic hair. (Highly disappointed)

Black persons, this is the place to get a haircut (other races are welcome - I observed clients of all types, including men, women and children). The barbers here do fantastic job. I called and made an appointment two weeks in advance. When I got there, the barber got to me quickly. Cash only, and my barber charged $20. Be mindful that the shop does not have its own parking lot, so get there at least 10 mins early to figure parking out. There is street parking right outside the shop, but you know how that can go in Portland...

Im on the fence with this place. I recently moved to Portland Maine and as an African American male, my choices for a barbershop are extremely slim, as in only 2!!It took 3 separate occasions to get a haircut because my barber was a no show. Suffice to say, I was concerned. However, once I finally connected with him, I received the best haircut Ive ever had.My suggestion is to always make an appointment and make it as early in the day as you can.

Being bi-racial,its hard to find ppl who understand the ins and outs of my hair..Toni and her crew have always been nice,honest,and very professional. She wont let you walk out the shop looking whack as hell, because that reflects on her, so she listens and gives her customers what they want.She also will be honest and tell you what you dont want, and not just do your hair and take your $$. I have gotten my fam to go here,and we luv Toni and all the girls!

I went to Toni’s for 15 years and have noticed over the past several years that the service there has become a lot more unprofessional. About a month ago I booked an appointment by phone with a woman. I had originally asked for a Monday appointment with Toni, but she had said that Toni did not come in on Mondays and asked if THURSDAY would work because Tuesday and Wednesday I wouldn’t be able to make it down that way before the shop closed. I agreed even though it wasn’t ideal (I had to work and live an hour away) and had the appointment booked.Thursday came and when I called letting them know I would be a couple minutes late due to the lack of parking in the area I was told I didn’t have an appointment. I had booked an appointment over a WEEK in advance so I didn’t understand, and mind you this is not the first time I’ve had issues with scheduling. I was told that someone could be with me in about 15 minutes so I decided to try and wait anyway because I had a funeral to attend the next day and had really wanted to get a trim. Well when I walked into the shop it was very awkward, no one really acknowledged me and after 45 minutes I got up and left. I live an hour away and it’s really frustrating to experience the same poor customer service repeatedly after taking so much time out of your day for a service.I’ve driven to their old Saco location for an appointment just to be told I couldn’t get in because they were doing someone’s dreads and they booked me down for an eyebrow wax instead of a relaxer. I’ve had my hair fried because someone unfamiliar with ethnic hair was allowed to dye mine at that same location. (This was due to over processing and when I returned to the Saco location even Toni had said that this woman shouldn’t have been doing my hair at the time because of lack of experience).At the Portland location I had my card triple charged once because they swiped my card multiple times when they had just gotten new equipment. That same trip my boyfriend and I were told one price for the services just to be charged a much higher rate. There was also another time when I had a 2 pm appointment booked and I had waited there for nearly an hour just because Toni was on lunch and not in the shop because there was poor communication. I work in customer service and I understand that there are hiccups and things happen but never in my life have I experienced anything like this. The staff is so unapologetic about it too. I stopped going as often as I used to over the years because of all these issues and now I will never return. It’s unfortunate because there aren’t many salons that treat ethnic hair in the area, but I’d rather take my chances than jump through these hoops. Every time any issues have been brought to the attention of the shop, it’s just brushed off and excuses are made. After reading through some of the reviews, I can see I’m not the only one who has experienced these issues.

I was looking for a new barber after moving to Portland recently. I found the Barber Shop at Toni’s touch on a walk to a nearby café. The premises aren’t upscale, but it’s a very friendly neighborhood place and the barber, Craig, is fantastic. He’s from Jamaica, and the music playing is lively reggae. I had to wait a while, only because he gives really good cuts, which takes time. He’s a delightful person and gave me one of the best cuts I’ve had (both my impression and my wife’s). Craig will certainly be my new barber (after my leaving the familiarity of my barber of 35 years in Bethesda MD, and after being unimpressed by the first barber I tried in Portland).

Great staff! Got my first hair cut from there and have been going since! Great with dreads, braids and the barbers got some serious skillz! Fades, shape ups, cuts, you name it, they will take care of you! Make an appointment.

The barbers are good. Cuts are $20. It would be nice if they were more professional though. They specialize in ethnic hair, and share space with a salon/beauty shop. Just an FYI

Its a neighborhood feeling establishment where you can feel at ease to be you, you with kick-#ss do and the supplies/products for maintenance and that ever feeling-nag to keep changing it up :) Just brought my baby girl there for her first cut and I was more than confident that she was in the right hands!

My girlfriend booked an appointment for me weeks in advance. We live in Bangor so it’s quite a haul to come all the way down to Portland. We got to the salon and they were not expecting us, and my appointment was not booked. I started the day feeling hopeful and excited since it’s so hard to find a decent place in Maine for a black girl to get her hair done, and I left feeling embarrassed and humiliated.

My daughter got her hair done! Very friendly efficient and knowledgeable!

Called for a apt got there and no one could see me smh.

When you make an appointment and drive up there you would expect to be seen not told that you don’t have an appointment 🙄🙄
