If you like a gym that refuses to cancel your membership, won’t respond to your emails, and will send you to collections without notice – then Crunch Gym is the place for you!I emailed Crunch to cancel my membership on 9/3, the first day when the gym re-opened post-pandemic. On 9/10, a representative (Alexandria) responded that my account was closed and I was all good.In November, I began receiving emails from Crunch each week that my account was past due. I forwarded these to Alexandria asking for clarification multiple times, but she never responded. I also noticed that on my account, the membership end date was 11/1 – a full two months after I requested cancellation. In December, I began receiving calls and notices from a collections agency that my account was past due.I paid the last months’ dues upfront when I signed my contract – so how I could be delinquent, even if the rep delayed cancelling my account, is a mystery to me. I didn’t ask questions, and immediately paid to resolve the past due balance as quickly as possible. What a disgusting way to do business – refusing to cancel, refusing to communicate, and sending folks to collections after youve refuse to communicate with them? Just to squeeze out an extra $90? You ought to be ashamed of yourselves.

Updated Review (was 5 stars): Crunch was quick to open its doors wide when restrictions were lifted. You can work out without a mask if fully vaccinated. I offered to show proof of vaccination and was told that wasnt necessary. Will be staying masked there because Im sure some of the people who are opting not to vaccinate wouldnt hesitate to go maskless.

Do not go! You are better off working out at home or running outside!Similar to other reviews, they overcharge, do not answer emails, dodge your calls, and then send you to collections when you are trying to work through their overcharges. I don’t know why gyms are the only companies that do not honor cancellations and make you still pay full months in advance. I guess it’s to just line their pockets and send you to collections if you don’t pay for services that you didn’t even use.I requested to cancel in September but was charged again in October. Submitted another request. Charged again in November. My monthly rate was 67.50 but I am now being charged over $170.During the summer, my credit card had to be changed due to fraud, so Crunch continues to charge my old card and I get emails a few times a month that Crunch is trying to charge different amounts to my card. I have charges for $9, $90, and $177. I do not trust them with my credit card anymore but I will just pay them to get them off my back.I was happy to go back once it was safe for me, but this entire experience has turned me off Crunch forever. I know gyms are hurting, but how are you going to continue charging customers for services they dont receive (havent been to the gym since March) AND when they request cancellation. And after all that, avoid your calls and emails so they can send you to collections.Very disappointed. Definitely avoid.EDIT: Was told to reach out to members service after posting the review. They never replied back. They are bullies that want to seem like they address customer concerns but dont. Avoid at all costs.

I have been regularly attending this gym since last year and I recommend it to everyone I meet. It has made leaps and bounds in improvement since Anthony took over managing it. Great vibes. Helpful and knowledgeable staff. Always equipment available to workout with (aka no waits for the weights) and a great way to meet other health-seeking individuals.

Membership costs increased 10% without warning or explanation and classes are impossible to book without the all-access membership. The standard membership really isn’t worth it, for $86 you get access to mostly dated equipment and there’s pretty much only one of each machine so there’s always a wait.

Closed since March. Opened back up in October and continued to charge my account (without letting me know they would), plus a yearly fee (even though the gym was closed for 6 months... I moved out in May because of COVID, but they will not refund my account because I had to cancel before the charge... The only way to cancel is in-person, but the gym was closed because of COVID.... No exceptions, even in a global pandemic.

Duncan is an amazing trainer at Crunch gym in Union square. I havent been to the gym in 15 years and he is supportive, patient and motivating. By listening to my complaints and encouraging me with kind words, we formed a warm professional relationship. He is very eager to help me accomplish my goals. Whenever I feel discouraged he always has a yes you can attitude which motivates me to keep going and never give up. he made me fall in love with becoming the best version of myself with patience. I highly recommend him

I originally came to Crunch using ClassPass gym times, but quickly became a member because of the friendly staff and amazing facility. I’ve never had a personal trainer before, but I began working with Duncan in March 2019 and he’s changed my life for the better. He truly takes interest in his clients’ lives and how the workout sessions can benefit them both physically and mentally. He makes sure his clients leave Crunch understanding what’s important about each workout and why, and how to use it to grow in the future. I’ve seen so much progress in myself I never thought was possible, and I’m glad I’ve had the opportunity to train with Duncan. Crunch Union Square is a great place that feels like home - very glad to be a member!

I have been doing boxing training with Oscar Herrera for almost a year and it is honestly one of the best investments I have ever made in myself. Here the key results in the first 3-4 months: I dropped almost 30 pounds in a few months, I ran 5 miles faster than any other time in my life, I gained more muscle definition than I thought was possible and my resting heart rate went from over 80 to 54. Oscar is amazing. He is a brilliant trainer and is pretty much a physical therapist having studied so much about the human body. He fixed my shoulder that has been injured for years and even one time cured a nasty cold I had. I would highly recommend anyone to go spend a day with Oscar and you will see what I am talking about.

My Friday group fitness workout. Erik Forand delivers amazing and ever changing ab class followed by a fantastic TRX one. These are good enough that ai take them every single week, including the holidays. The 4 stars are for how the studio is set. You have light fixtures, disco balls and whatnot. Plus a giant column in the middle of the studio, creating a HUGE blind spot. With all of this, I love my workouts, and will continue to patronize Union square Crunch.

This may be my favorite Crunch to go to. The staff is very friendly and they keep it totally clean. You can always find a machine to get on which is great and of course the classes are always good.Every now and then they have free fruit out which is a nice hint. They have also stepped up their game with the lotions and soaps. Its always nice to have good body products after a hard work out!

Ive been a member of Crunch for almost a year already and Im really happy that Ive decided to join them. They have a huge selection of classes which I really like. Trainers are cool (except of Tina T, shes a NIGHTMARE, seriously, avoid her, I left the class after 5min as I couldnt stand her and I wasnt the only one who left) everything is always clean, the machines are in good condition, they always have clean towels, soaps, shampoo, conditioners, hairdryers. Only problem is that its getting super crowded around 6pm, but I guess you cant avoid it in this kind of location. Bowery location is a bit better during that hours though and its only 8min away by walk

The staff was rude. The gym is on the smaller side. The gym is not being taken care of (broken sinks, dirty, etc.). The monthly membership price is absurd for what you get with this location.I was a member at Crunch in San Francisco & absolutely loved it! I was very disappointed with this location. I now understand why Crunch has such a bad reputation in NYC.

Review №30

Im a fan of this Crunch not only for its convenient location but for the cleanliness of the facilities and the quality of the classes. My most frequented classes are the spin sessions and the ultimate conditioning. While the rooms are small, you get a full body workout and you leave feeling great! The instructors hop around all the different locations but I have had only good experiences with the instructors who go to Union Square. I also like how many elliptical and treadmill machines are available. Ive never had any trouble securing a machine and they are usually clean and maintained. They often have student promotions or weekly trials so if youre not sure if you want to buy-in, use the trials and at least experience this location.

The desk staff was pretty rude with me when I was trying to check in via class pass and marked me as missing my class when I was just late for open gym access. Pretty not happy about that part. I should have read the reviews in ClassPass because other people said the same thing! This gym is NOT for ClassPass open access folks. Also, and probably more importantly, compared to other crunch gyms this place is not up to par. Small gym, bathrooms are in weird places and other crunches near by are far better.

I trained with Oscar 1-2 times per week last year and earlier this year. I had never worked out with a trainer before and doubted that the price tag would be worth it, but was quickly assured that it was a good investment. With a torn labrum and injured right knee, Oscar worked around my injuries and pushed me harder than I have been pushed when working out. We didn’t spend time on the “typical” machines — my workouts were specialized for my needs and Oscar closely monitored and corrected my movements. Highly recommend. The facilities at the Crunch USQ are also greatly improved over the past year. The new turf area at the front is prefect for HIIT workouts.

Review of Union Square location:Overcrowded and overpriced. Joined because of location, but if you do any form of self directed workout you might as well join a discount gym, save your money, and wait in line to workout at a place that charges half as much instead. However, they do have GREAT classes, which makes up for a lot of the inconvenience of actually getting a work-out in. My suggestion is join for the classes and try to lift at non-peak times.

My biggest gripe about this gym is that I dont like spending an hour of my free time 3-5 days a week in a basement. Like where are all the regular people? The New York Health & Racquet Club looks more promising. ✌️

Ive been coming here and working one on one with Oscar Herrera twice a week for almost a year now. This guy really knows his stuff!! When I first started training with Oscar, I had a messed up shoulder that I kept hurting while playing sports and was barely able to lift any weight above shoulder level. Oscar worked with me to make sure that we were meeting my fitness goals (i.e., sports conditioning) while also rehabbing and strengthening previously injured areas so reoccurring injuries would not happen, and now Im able to perform kettlebell snatches and shoulder presses. He is immensely knowledgeable in biomechanics and physiology and goes through the effort of explaining not only what the proper form for a movement should be, but why that is the correct form. His workouts are consistently challenging and variable. I highly recommend!

Been a member on and off for three years at this location...I like the environment and layout of this Crunch location!Pros: 1) Good Amount of Cardio Equipment and weight machines on the top floor, plus areas for stretching and core/ab workouts 2) Good crowd..no juice head, guido types..more young professionals, weekend warriors, athletic types 3) Clean locker rooms, equipment and gym floor.Cons: 1) super busy in the morning from 6am -- 8am and in the evenings from 5-8pm 2) too much space taken up by personal trainers and their clients...theres a LOT of personal trainers here, so at any given time theres one-on-one training sessions going on which occupy gym space and equipment longer than usual

The team at Union Square really understand how to create an excellent client experience. Ive recently joined after a long-time loyalty to NYSC and Equinox- good things to say about both but no clue about how to get into the hearts and minds of clients and their needs & wants. From first outreach from the business development team (e.. Mike Aiken) to the folks at the desk (e.g., Tina) to the instructors and training staff (Tarik, Joe and Emiliano), I have consistently experienced individualized, highly focused, personal interactions. Numerous classes, updated equipment, clean environments are table stakes for all gyms and the Crunch team have taken it up a notch! The energy and synergies the team demonstrate set the tone for the gym and the overall experience. If you want to feel like an individual whose fitness needs and wants are met and exceeded run, dont walk and sign up at this gym!

To say this gym was a huge disappointment would be the understatement of the century. A little background on myself, Im a former college football player and Ive been lifting for about 9 years. I usually go about 5 days a week and Ive been to a lot of crunches in the city and this is by far the worst one. Here are my reasons why: 1) They have two floors and they dedicate the floor with more space to cardio machines and they put the weightlifting section into a small box like section. Theres literally more cardio machines than people but yet they use the smaller floor for weight training. I can literally take ten to fifteen steps and cover the entire weight lifting section 2) They have mismatch dumbbells. They have some that are Iron and some that are rubber right next to each other so youll be doing exercises with two different types of dumbbells in each hand 3) Theres just not enough equipment in this gym. They dont even have a cable machine in this location because the space is so small. Even if theres a handful of people there youll be waiting to use equipment because theres just not enough equipment and the layout is just terrible. If youre new to weight training, this gym might suit your needs but if you are experienced and like variety, I would not recommend this gym at all.
