Made a reservation with Alex based on good reviews, but when I got there I was handed off to a different barber. She gave me a cut that was pretty different from the one I described (despite showing a picture), and cut the hair short enough that I’ll have to wait a while to get it fixed. You might have better luck with Alex.Edit: After leaving this review Alex called me and offered to fix up the hair - while nobody can fix hair thats too short, he did a great job cleaning it up. I came in with high hopes to get a good haircut. I thought I was specific enough with what I wanted my hair to be. As I arrived for my 5:30pm appointment with Alex, I was told to wait as he just started someone else’s haircut. I must have waited 15-20 minutes. I cannot express my dissatisfaction with my haircut. I asked for a light trim on the top and now have only my bangs long with the back, starting mid crown, practically buzzed off. he free handed the top with the clippers which left divots/choppy hair. Alex also left razor burns on my neck that still sting well after the cut was done. Overall, Alex rushed to get through my cutand didn’t seem to care about me or what I specifically asked for and did not ask along the way throughout the cut until it was too late and all done. Highly disappointed, will not recommend.

Got a scissor cut from Alex for my daughter’s wedding. Great job. He works quickly and does a very high quality job. Clearly has tremendous experience. Great value. Wonderful asset to the neighborhood.

Came here with a booked regular haircut of $30, but they charged me $35 for a scissor cut without telling or asking me first. The resultant total including tip and tax is about $50. Too expensive for an average-quality simple haircut. I wasn’t even asked what cut etc. I want, there was NO communication, just cutting. Very fast and rough. Never, seriously never, has my hair been that short in the past 27 years. I am wearing a cap since the visit. Yes, price is good but it depends what you want from it.

Alex is terrific with kids. He listens to any request, and gives a very professional haircut. They are also very accommodating for walk-ins. Great local shop!

For past 34 years, since I turned 16, Ive maintained a clean-shaven face. Then, during Covid-19, I decided to grow a beard. Initially I enjoyed my quarantine look. But my beard soon turned into a bush !! I wanted to trim it but didnt know how to do it properly. So I kept procrastinating. Luckily this barbershop is located right next to my house so one day, on a whim, I went there. Alex greeted me and trimmed my beard. He worked on it VERY METICULOUSLY, almost hair by hair. So much so that I had the feeling he was landscaping my face ! After 20 minutes of his hard work, the result was stunning: I looked amazing with my trimmed beard. I got a big ego boost :-)And the trimming cost me just $15. From now on, I plan to see Alex every month for trimming. I have worked with +100 barbers in my adult life, but I havent seen anyone as THOROUGHLY professional as Alex. I highly recommend him for beard trimming.

The guy started to cut my sons hair super short without warning and he started crying. Instead of trying to apologize, mistakes can happen, he starts lecturing me how my son is a grown man and he wil be fine. Never experienced anything like that

Great barbershop located in heart of the Upper West Side. Alex is really nice and easy to talk to. Scheduling is a breeze and he is available after work, which is always nice. He does a nice job cutting hair and at $30 for the haircut it is reasonably priced for a scissor cut. Having cut hair for quite some time, Alex knows how to do certain hair styles really well and even helps save you from making common haircut styling mistakes.

I have very high standards for a nice razor fade that not all barbers can do well, and Alex always delivers. One of the best barbers in NYC, and the absolute best on the upper west side!

3/5 starsI though my cut was good, the woman who cut my hair was nice but the man not so much, he said something along the lines of “do what you think is right, you’re the hair dresser not him. he doesn’t know better you do” which is basically saying i’m not in control of my haircut which is disrespectful and rude the girl did not listen which i appreciate because it’s my choice what i want to do with my hair. There is another sign on the door that says they wipe the seats for each new customer but when i came in they sat me down without wiping. The women kept her mask on the whole time but the man took his mask of to talk or he let it drop under his nose which gives the mask no point in protection. Overall i liked the haircut but not the customer service from the man was not only rude but unsafe too.

Alex is a sociable and attentive stylist. You walk in a stranger and leave knowing you found your go to barber bcs of the awesome experience and quality haircut Alex provided.What I respect most is that Alex doesn’t care about the number of haircuts he can potentially bang it. When you’re sitting in his chair and Alex is doing his thing, he makes you feel like you’re in a salon on Madison Avenue with the attention to detail you get from Alex.There is no reason why he doesn’t charge $75-$100 for a haircut but that’s not his style. Alex is all about providing a top of the line experience for a fraction of the price because he loves what he does and his satisfaction is when you leave his barber shop feeling more confident then when you did before you walked in.Give Alex a shot and you won’t need to try a new barber bcs he will be your barber.

Alex is awesome. Super talented and really pays attention to detail. I just got my first cut with him today and he’s definitely my go-to guy now. Cannot recommend him and his shop highly enough.

Alex cut my hair for the first time today, and I dont plan on going to another barber for as long as he is open. It is easy to tell that he takes pride in his craft, and it shows in the results.

Came here for the first time today after passing by numerous times and I am glad I did.Met Alex who is very meticulous on his haircut. Hard to be pleased with the first haircut from a new barber but Alex nailed the cut I wanted. Alex took his time, making sure every angle of the cut was good.The place is spotless with great accents of the floor finish to the wall and the bench.Haircuts are very, very reasonably priced. I’ve been here a few times now, and by far the best barbershop anywhere uptown. I’m a loyalist and have gone to the same barber downtown for 8 years, but I feel confident going to Alex now, knowing I’ll always get something that looks good. Alex does great work - I’ve had a lot of big events lately and I always stop off for a haircut here first, and it really makes such a difference having a barber who also knows how to style hair. A++
