First time here, I booked with Kevin. Really disappointed in this place considering their reputation as well as price ($45 plus a 10$ tip.) I came in here with a picture to show the barber, making it well known that I wanted something low maintenance and that Ive gotten a ton of fades in the past and really liked them, but wasnt looking to get one due to the constant need for another haircut to keep the style up. This had been my first haircut in probably 9 months so my hair was extremely long leaving me with a bunch of options for the first time in along time, as I hate the awkward grow out stage but was able to push through it not seeing many people during the pandemic. The picture I showed had medium length up top, and then a more trimmed side but in no way a fade. I told the barber that I wanted it to be just above the length that my hair begins to stick up because that happens when its cut too short, as well as my cowlick on the crown of my head becoming an issue. Upon 30 seconds of my haircut beginning, I knew he had messed up with whatever guard he used to shave down the bulk of my hair. Within those 30 seconds, I already knew the photo I showed the barber would be impossible to achieve as he cut down way too much. After asking him where this was going, he decides to pull up a picture on his own phone and show me what hes going for. I dont know if he did this to try to make it seem like he knew what he was doing rather than admit he messed up, but it was apparent the photo I showed him had been tossed out the window as he was now showing the same basic haircut that every barber has done for the past 5 years, fade on the sides with length on top. He was able to do the fade well but it was exactly what I made clear I didnt want. The most frustrating part of this is that I chose a highly rated and expensive barber shop so that those months of growing out my hair werent wasted, but now Im back to square one.Pictures added of what I showed vs what I received.

He gives a nice skin taper which allows Asian hair to grow out in a nicer shape which ultimately requires less haircuts!The atmosphere is great at 12 Pell. Ive heard a lot about them before I went in and they didnt disappoint! Tyler, the barber that cut my hair, was very professional and skilled. He gave me a lot of advice and suggestions which I appreciated a lot and the haircut turned out great!

My barber/stylist Kenny, was very patient when listening to my requests regarding the type of haircut I wanted. I also told him some of my insecurities regarding my head/shape. Usually when I get my hair cut I don’t have a clear direction of where I want it to go. After meeting Franky that has changed as he helped to decide what would look good and even went the extra step by teaching me how to style my hair with products such as claymation. When I went to Tyler, I was a bit unsure of what I wanted to do to my hair, but Tyler gave me some ideas based on the length of my current hair and my hair shape. He came up with a plan for the cut now and for the cut in a month to move towards my desired hairstyle. Overall, I was very impressed with the experience and I will surely be going back!

Peter cut my hair and gave me a consultation. I was in desperate need of a change of style that better suited my face, head shape, and hair qualities/texture and he walked me through all that and explained why he was doing stuff every step of the way. He also explained and showed me how to style it, what products to use, and overall provided a very thorough and complete haircut experience (he even sent me instructions, vids, and all that after the cut). Cannot recommend this place enough especially if you have really straight/East Asian hair.

They took my temp, gave me hand sanitizer. The shop had borders between each chair. Speaking of chairs, they have vintage biltmore chairs with oversized cushions. I booked with Peter, and as far a haircut goes, one of my best experiences, I told him vaguely what I was looking for. He understood and explained what he would do and how which was something no Barber Ive ever had has done; even as he was cutting my hair, he would explain the reason behind what he was doing and how it will get the look I wanted.

The best cut in the city for Asian hair hands down. Would highly recommend Ty -- awesome conversationalist, knows his way around hair and is very attentive to any special requests!

This barbershop is a vibe. Started getting my haircuts from here last year in the middle of the pandemic and was very impressed by the safety protocols they have in place (temperature check, disposable capes, sanitizing equipment after each haircut, etc). What makes going to 12 Pell a great experience for me is not just the quality of the haircuts but the other services they provide, such as hair consultation and styling advice. I know Im being taken care of when Im there as they go the extra mile to ensure you have an amazing cut and experience.

First time at 12 Pell, great experience. I walked in not really knowing what I wanted to do because I grew my hair out LONG for the first time ever. This would be my first big haircut in 1.5 years and I didn’t know what I wanted to do with it. A lot of times Barbers will seem like they are in a rush, ask “what do you want to do” and feels like they only have 10 seconds to spend on this part of the cut. But Tim took the time to ask questions and talk through ideas with me. That was great. I could tell he was being super careful throughout the whole cut to make sure all of the lines were clean and even. Entire experience in the shop was great, they try to make sure you’re comfortable. Definitely recommend this 12 Pell and will be back!

12 Pells reputation is no joke. One of the best cuts Ive ever received in one of the most welcoming environments Ive ever experienced. They pay attention to every little detail and are willing to answer whatever concerns you have about hair. I definitely recommend going so go give them some love.

Every penny spent was worth it, including the tip that was given I do not regret any of it! Kenny was amazing and my experience was just off the charts! He was very knowledgeable and in depth with his explanations of every question I asked. Not only did he make me look good he made me feel more confident walking out as well. The hot towel service felt so good I fell asleep on the chair and did not want to wake! He has great memory of what was done before and I do not have to explain what I got last time. If you ever want to go to 12 pell go to Kenny!! You will not regret it!!

One of the best modern barbershops in the city. The price is relatively on the higher side for the area ($45 as of 2021) but it’s offset by the amazing barbers who are knowledgeable in their craft and really care about the details. They go the extra mile to ensure it’s one the best cuts you can get.

The best barber shop in NYC. A friend recommended Tim and I’ve been getting my cut from him for the past year. He will take care of you, trust me. This man will treat you like a King and make you feel like a King. The cut is always fresh and the service is superb. Bottled water is always offered so you stay hydrated. The extra safety protocols during COVID made me feel safe in the chair. The place is always clean.Make sure to book in advance it’s usually busy!

The absolute best haircut experience, hands down. My barber, Karho, is one of the most professional and meticulous barbers Ive ever met. I made an appointment from their website, walked in when it was time, and was treated to one of the most comfortable and insightful haircuts Ive ever had. I cant believe how sharp my hairline is now. This is my local haircut spot and they do excellent work. The experience is amazing every time and the barbers are extremely knowledgeable. (They gave me really good advice on how to get over my dry scalp) I highly recommend this place for their great service, taste, care, and attention to detail. So fortunate this shop is across the street from me!

Booked my last 2 haircuts here through the website as a walk-in and Larry took good care of me both times. He made his recommendations and both cuts came out super clean and consistent. Definitely gonna be coming back to Larry in the future, real friendly and professional barber.The shop is super clean, dividers between chairs, temperature checks and hand sanitizer at the door. They offer to take your jacket and bags and offer complimentary water. Great shop!

Came here on my trip to SF after finding them on Tik tok and the hype lives up to the name. Kenny was my barber and did an amazing job. Provided insight on the type of haircut that works with my head structure and hair type and helpful information on types of product to use. Thanks again man, will be back again on my next trip to Ny. I got a cut from Tim and could not have been more satisfied with the results.First off, the shop was very clean and followed covid protocol very well. Secondly, Tim took the time to ask me what I was looking for so I went in a little more detail than I usually do. He listened to what I said and made some suggestions, for which I was very grateful. He even gave me a step by step guide on how to style it. Ultimately I was blown away by the service here and could definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great cut.
