I rented a studio in the LaSalle Apartments for four years (2017 to 2021) and highly recommend living here.Pros –Location – So close to so many great bars and almost all the major bus lines in the city. You don’t even have to go outside to get to Rock Bottom, Crave, Capitol Grill and The State Theater. Target is half a block away, Lunds is an 8 minute walk while Whole Foods is 13 minutes away.Security – While LaSalle Plaza security is not responsible for the apartments, they do watch over everything. It is nice to be able to walk in the complex off of Hennepin or LaSalle and see someone sitting at the desk.Quiet – The apartments are pretty well insulated. I rarely hear my next door or upstairs neighbors, but sound does carry in the hallway, like in many apartment buildings. For a few months someone above was really loud on several nights (arguments with boyfriend) but that can happen anywhere. Before 2020, 9th Street got busy during rush hour, but except for a few loud cars, motorcycles or drunks it is fairly quiet at night.Clean – I never once saw any bugs or rodents in the building. Not even spiders. Some walls need paint and carpeting replaced. The management keeps updating and painting, but it just takes one jerk to spill something or mark up a wall. For the most part people who live here are nice, respectful and quiet.Murphy Bed – So easy to hide your bed away and it looks like you have a huge living room! I had plastic sliders under my sofa so I could easily push it when I put the bed up or down.Kitchen – For one person who does not cook much, it was just the right size. The large counter/table was great for prepping food or setting out snacks for when you have guests over.Bathroom - Big bathroom with a clothing washer/dryer machine. It takes up to 5 hours to do a load, but it was so nice to have in the apartment.Storage – This may be a con for you if you have a lot of stuff. My studio apartment had one closet, and storage space in the kitchen and bathroom cabinets. A desk and small dresser were also provided. Fortunately you can rent a storage locker in the basement for just $10 a month. The only problem is that you have to take a couple flights of stairs to get to the space. They also have a secured bike storage area for $10 a month.Price – One of the most affordable places to live downtown. If you don’t have a car, or much stuff, this is perfect. In the 4 years I lived here, the most the rent increased was $18. My last place increased rent $100 every year.Staff – Michelle and the rest of the crew are great! Very friendly, responsive and patient with your questions.Cons –No outdoor or green space. - This part of downtown is mostly concrete. But, the river is only 20 minutes away, and Loring Park is about 15 minutes.Light pollution – The blinds block out most of the glare, but Target is quite bright at night. Maintenance is willing to install blackout curtains if you purchase some.Windows and vents - I dont think the windows or vents were cleaned out during my time here.Cabinets, counter tops, flooring – Basic materials were used in my apartment, unlike most of the luxury places you find downtown. But, this is what helps keep the cost down. My personal priority was location and affordability so I could go out to eat and drink in the neighborhood and travel. No amenities – While there is a community room, with a tv and WiFi, there are no other community spaces or amenities. But, that is another thing that keeps the cost down.Parking - There is no parking for residents or guests. There is metered parking on the streets, but are sometimes blocked off during special events. After 4pm on weekdays and all day on weekends you can park in the ramp across the street for only $5, but you have to move your car the next morning by 4am or you will be charged for another full day. If you own a car there is not a discount for parking in the ramp… last time I checked I think it was $180 a month.
Moved out more than 6 months ago and have yet to see my security deposit returned... every call goes to voicemail and I even went to their office today and noone was there... guess Im gonna have to lawyer up to get my money back. Avoid this place, its clearly gone downhill since covid began..
During this Pandemic Im extremely disappointed in the bait and switch thats taking place at the Lasalle apartments. I did reach out to the attorney general about me not being able to receive my security deposit back due to the lack of communication taking place in this apartment complex as well as the ”hidden fees” being told to me AFTER I already paid for the deposit and all the times I had to call and email Michelle and Tim with consistent questions about my future apartment. Never once was told about the rental requirements, rental insurance, apartment rules, etc. They took my money and only reached out if it benefited them. This is not okay. I backed out of the not yet signed lease because I didnt feel comfortable with the lack of communication, the added hidden fees, and the safety of Minneapolis. Both Tim and Michelle could of reached out multiple time to tell me because of my lack of rental history I would be required to pay an extra deposit (which I could not afford) but they waited to it was to late. I was never told about the rental insurance necessary; I had to find out by looking at the lease. I politely demand my money back. If I wouldve been told the rental requirements and all the future fees I would have never paid the security deposit for a second time. The first deposit failed and they waited and waited until I came in to pay the deposit in person to tell me a day later that I would have to pay a second deposit. This is not okay.
Pros: Amazing location! Great for downtown singles. More affordable than most downtown apartment complexes. Easy access to the skyways. Also, skyway access to the downtown Target.Cons: The windows and screens aren’t cleaned regularly. Dusty, dirty, stained carpets in the hallways and elevators are the norm. Same goes for the elevator. Paper thin walls. Office hours start after 8am and end before 6pm - making it impossible to pick up packages, or talk with the staff in person if you have a typical 8-5 work schedule.
FANTASTIC apartments! While the building is on the older side, you get great value. The management is amazing; helpful and polite. And the location simply cant be beat. I highly recommend LaSalle Apartments.
Ive lived at LaSalle Apartments for a month and have had only good experiences. Management (Tim, Michelle) is very respectful and communicative, and maintenance is super responsive. The building itself is very nice too with fast elevators and thick walls; Ive never heard any of my neighbors for more than a brief second. The location is hard to beat; its skyway connected, 2 blocks away from Target, and a few blocks away from many of the main work buildings. Its been really great living here and I would sign again in a heartbeat!
A great first apartment for right out of college. Peggy was always helpful and maintenance was quick to respond. The long office hours were helpful. The lease was very flexible. I stayed ~1.5 years.
The price, location, and management make La Salle awesome! Living in downtown is expensive, but this is one of the most reasonable. The management is also so nice and helpful. Jake, Michele, Tim, and Pete are all so kind and really care about us as residents and not just another apartment number. The location is also perfect! Right in the middle of things with skyway access and so close to target! Would recommend
Ive lived at LaSalle for 1 year. Being not from the US, I was not sure what to expect. I always thought they were too expensive given that the apartment was quite small. When my lease ended I moved to a different place which offered a bigger apartment for 60% of the price. Worst decision ever. After staying at that other apt for 4 months before heading back to home to Europe, I was happy to sign another lease with LaSalle. The staff is very courteous, the building is clean and modern, the plaza itself is awesome, its connected via Skyways to everything else (which is awesome, imagine going to the store in your slippers and wearing a t-shirt at -35 degrees)... I do still wish they were a bit cheaper, but oh well. Still definitely worth it!
Was ignored for over 2 weeks regarding maintenance starting January 4th. Called and created online maintenance requests.
Extremely poor management. The maintenance is a joke here. Youll have to call multiple times to get something done here.My washing machine wasnt working, took them 2 months to replace it.
LaSalle Apartments management change January 2013 is for the worse. General issues relating to disruptive tenants are not resolved effectively and maintenance orders are delayed. Past management handled these issues seamlessly. When it comes time to renew my lease, I will NOT be renewing.
La Salle appt, is amazing place !!!You have everything you need around there, peaceful place !!!!!!!
I stayed in LaSalle for 6 months. I would rate 5 stars for the management and staff. Peggy the property Manager is really good and very helpful. Pete knows every part of Building very well. The Property is in very good location with Skyway connected to all Major Stores like Macys, Targets and many more. I wish the space was little bigger, if you are staying alone or dont have a family La Salle is the best place to stay in Downtown specially in Winters.
