The service was good and the price was excellent. Food on the flight wasnt the best but I wont complain. Not expecting a first class meal.Movie selection wasnt good and you cant have your cell phone on in airplane mode. I believe this is a policy of the Chinese government over all of the airlines in China.You can use a laptop or tablet for movies and games.The next issue is a problem for Airlines across-the-board trying to save money is, the room in the economy seating. Im currently a male 6 ft 2 . My knees was up against the back seat of the person in front of me the whole trip from Los Angeles to Beijing. I guess if you pay more you get more space to sit and stretch. This is not isolated to Air China. I have flown on other carriers and if you dont fly business or first class then youre pretty much stuck like a sardine on a long flight. I included a photo of my knees against the back seat of the person in front of me on my flight from Los Angeles to Beijing. The CEOs of these Airlines wouldnt sit in a position like this for a 12 hour flight but their customers have to endure treatment like this .
If youre reading this DO NOT FLY AIR CHINA!Sure that cheap pricetag looks great until you realize that the Beijing connection regularly is delayed. Which means you will miss you connecting flight, youll be stranded in Beijing, the airlines will put you up in a 10000 room motel at least 1hr from the airport. The convenience store in the hotel is cash only so hope you brought water and food with you.
Our teenage daughters got a great deal on a flight to China to work in summer camps for two weeks. The boarded their scheduled 1130am flight at noon and sat on the tarmac at LAX for nearly seven hours while they repaired the flat tires that kept the plane from departing on time. When I phoned their customer service line to see how they would be handling the connecting domestic flight, I was reassured by their representative that our daughters would be rescheduled for a flight the following morning as they missed the last domestic flight out. Lydia told me that our teens would be shuttled to a hotel and shuttled back in the morning after making an easy stop at their transit center. When they arrived in Beijing at midnight, the airport was closed, no customer service was available, and after a 45 min wait on hold with Air Chinas customer service line, I was told by Sarah and Crystal that it was not Air Chinas fault that there were no hotels, no shuttle, and no services until 4am when the gates were reopened. When asked if they would provide a well-lit spot guarded by security, a pillow and blanket, and perhaps a snack, the manager on duty said that that was not their responsibility for all their displaced travelers. Their service was unprofessional, unconscionable, and unkind. As I type, our daughters are sitting outside the gate area on the ground after 20 hours in an Air China plane. If only I could arrange for them to fly another way home! Spend the extra money and fly with a more reputable company that values their customers well-being. This is our families fifth trip to China and we will never fly with this airline again.
Only suited for slim people 54 and below otherwise youre hanging over into the next seat or your knees are in your chest. At least this flight had individual screens with lots of movie options
This happened to me on 15th Nov 2019 - International FlightFlight was delayed just when we were about to board the plane due to some inspection. Initially they told us it will be max 30 - 45 mins. But after 2 hours we were informed that our flight was cancelled and we had to pick our luggage and goto their counter for further instructions.Even the Air China staff didnt know what was going on and after waiting for another couple of hours we were finally given a hotel voucher and food coupon.When I asked them about when will be able to fly or get a booking in another flight they had little to no knowledge about it and insisted that we just take the hotel voucher and goto our rooms and wait for them to call us. One staff clearly told me that right now they had no power to book anyone into another flight.Late that night we got a call from an Air China representative who told me that our aircraft is fixed and new boarding time is 9am next morning, we were told to be at the airport at 6 am. I thought the worst was over but I was so wrong, next morning they took our passport and made us wait for straight 3 hour without food or any kind of service. Later gave us flight tickets for another carrier that was leaving at 3:30pm. Had to spend my own money on food and stuff and wasted so much time because of some Air China technicians that didnt do their work properly.Will never fly with them again. If you Google it you will see this carrier had a very bad reputation and ranking, I wish I knew this before I would have never booked on it.
The Service: Took 4 flights with them, all on time, no delay. They made sure passengers settled down ASAP, always took off on time. Flight attendants were very friendly if I needed any service.The Cost: Compared to other airlines, Air China has one of the cheapest price.The airplane: Have screen at every seat. But kind of.... outdated. No USB slot. All movie entertainment is free.
They have a good price for international flights. But dont expect good service at the airport. The girls who working there are not very paitient. Especially if they know you are Chinese... very interesting. I saw them being rude to my parents. Not a good expression.
Both my flights get delay for more than 3 hours, I lost an airplane thanks to that delay, and they lost my 2 bags. Still no answers for what happen with it.

Yeah, its a budget airline and the 777s I flew on were pretty tired, but comfortable enough for the price.
