I had a terrible overall experience with the Gregory location. I brought my truck there for an issue with it stalling. I spent over $1,500 only to have the mechanic tell me afterwards that all the work we did may not have solved the issue I brought it in for!3 weeks later, one of the parts he did replace turned out to be the wrong size! I found this out after having a separate mechanic review and suggest I return to Perkins as they installed incorrectly. When I brought it back to be fixed, he charged me another $300 and claimed it wasnt his fault.STAY AWAY FROM PERKINS, YOU WILL NOT BE PLEASED WITH THE SERVICE, QUALITY or VALUE of THEIR WORK.
Repairs not done on time or correctly, required multiple visits.
A great experience. I did not feel overcharged or taken advantage of in any way when I needed to take my car in for what ended up being a brake repair. In fact, they did what they could to try to save me money. AND fit me in right away when I said I had to have my car later that day — even though they were very busy with other cars. This was my first time needing to have a repair done to my car, and I will definitely be back should any future issues arise. Thank you, Perkins!
Service was fast but the gentleman never made eye contact with me or said good morning or anything
Terrible quality work. See the photos with descriptions. I paid over $2000 for a front end job on my truck, and they installed a ball joint and tie rod sleeve improperly and ruined them. The owner (Duane) would not admit fault or replace the damaged parts. Essentially he said unless I had photos showing the damage was done in his shop, he would assume it happened after I drove off his parking lot. I give the owner a zero for integrity. I gave the shop a two-star rating only because the branch manager was polite and professional when I came back to complain about the substandard work.
Fair shop. It is customers responsibility to understand what the problem is, the price to fix, and the parts! the history do a little research, arm yourself with some knowledge . you need to be willing participantIt its customers responsibility to understand the problem is the price to fix the parts the history do a little research arm yourself with some knowledge hey do you have your job you need to be willing participant
The guys here are honest and straight shooters. They have never tried to SELL me a service, only inform me of what can be done, and what they would do in my shoes. Greg (or maybe Craig) has gone out of his way to find parts at an affordable price. I highly recommend Perkins.
IF I COULD GIVE A NEGATIVE 5 STAR I WOULD...This place had my truck for a WHOLE week. Replaced a bunch of parts which many i did not approve. Only to be told my 7 and 8 cylinders were no good. In their words DROPPED..They had been told prior to working on it the fuel ejectors were replaced in those two so check the pressure. They said they check and they were fine. I asked if they did a compression check. They said they did and the 2 cylinders were no good.. Long story short, 800.00 dollar bill to be told the truck was the same as when i brought it in. OF COARSE they told me they can rebuild the engine. YA RIGHT. I take it to someone else and they tell me the 2 fuel injectors that were in question from the beginning were not right. Napa gave the wrong ones..Perkins Honest NO, Believable NO, would i recommend them for anything, YES, to go back to school and learn basic auto mechanics 101.And honesty... In a small town this isnt good.Word of mouth is powerful...I wasnt going to write this but i thought i owed it to hard working honest people out there....
I have been going to Perkins and recommending them for many years so it pains me to say that I will NEVER go back. My husbands work van was dying on the road so we took it in... they said it needed a tune up so we got the tune up. When we pick it up we discover that they have also have replaced the muffler without telling us. I should note at this point that just a couple months before they had patched the muffler telling us that it didnt need replacing...Got it home look under the hood to discover a missing hose. Take it back to have hose put back in.The next day it dies while my husband is out working. He looks in the new muffler only to discover that it is dry. So we take it back. We were pretty upset so now they say it needs a new smog filter and they will replace it free of charge. We get it back it dies again. Now it is back in the shop and they say it needs computer work. We wait literally weeks, all the while they keep saying it will be ready in a couple days, a couple more days etc. We ask repeatedly to speak to the owner who never returns our calls. We finally got him on the phone today and he tells us something totally different it wrong with it. We say we are going to come get it and take it to another place and he says *rudely * that we owe him for the repair that they told us would be no cost. We arrive literally minutes later and he is gone. Surprise, surprise... so basically they had our vehicle for two of the last three months, we are out a whole lot of money, and we still have a van that dies while driving down the road. The only redeeming factor in this story is the woman who mans the front desk is very sweet. Beware of Perkins. The owner is rude and shady.
I went in for a state inspection. I needed new brakes and wipers. They replaced everything within a couple hours for a very reasonable price. Very efficient and professional.
I went there last fall quite by accident. I had an appointment nearby and needed a tire mounted and installed. I returned to a $42 bill to mount a tire. I had the same job done two weeks prior in the east bottoms for $15. They also wanted to charge me $10 to dispose of the old tire. Run do not walk away from here. Its pretty obvious theyre writing their own reviews on google and yelp. No one with any sense would give them a good review. Incredible hucksters. Jail would be too good.
Recommended there by church - no walk-in service and GRUMPY guy said it would be at least 2 weeks to look at potential oil leak. Went back per appt and they charged me $45 to clean bottom of vehicle to LOOK. I am an older single woman on a veryFixed income - will not be going back. ( Firestone better service)
Least expensive fixes and quickest turnaround I’ve ever experienced in this area. Exactly what I needed after many terrible experiences at other shops. Thanks guys!
Awful!!!! They always try to make you spend money on things you dont need but the final straw was when my wife got an oil change they failed to reattach properly the plastic cover plate removed to access the oil filter. She miss an appointment because of their negligence and when asked to fix it all they did was add more zip ties to the 1 I added so she could even make it to their establishment... Not only will I never go there again but I will not allow any coupon book sales anywhere near my establishment ( a bar 3 blocks away).
Such a wonder place to get my car serviced. They are by far the most honest repairmen Ive every met!
No BS independent repair shop. Recommended and will use again. Wont upsell or pressure for recommended maintenance items.
Perkins Auto is an awesome family owned shop. They are honest and fair pricing. Very knowledgeable and thorough I highly recommend them!! Andrew is wondeful!
We used three other shops in south KC before we found Perkins. Weve been going to them exclusively now for more than five years. Theyve always done a great job. Fast turnaround and great customer service from EVERYONE at the shop.
Great bunch of guys.. didnt go in for service.. But to thank a young gentleman that helped me after I had a wreck in front of their business.... Cant thank him enough for his kindness!!
Perkins inspected my motorcycle quickly and professionally. (Most inspection stations wont bother to get you in fast, but these guys did!) Thank you
I needed to get my motorcycle inspected they were able to get me in last minute. The staff was friendly and fast.
Kinda pricey. But they do excellent work.
I was told that if I bought a new tire from Perkins, they would rotate my tires for free. After receiving a couple rotations for free, they became upset that I was getting rotations for free and told me they would no longer honor the promotion because I only bought one tire from them. I tried to calmly talk about the situation with them, but they were upset about other matters on the phone and when they checked me out and saw that I was getting a free tire rotation, it made them even more upset. They responded unprofessional and rude to me and I wasnt doing anything other than getting the promotions that they had offered. He looked at me and said, Ill rotate one of your tires for free. HOW THE HELL ARE YOU GOING TO ROTATE ONE TIRE? Being rude and sarcastic to your customers who are just taking advantage of the promotions you offered them is no way to run a business. I would not recommend this place. They do not honor the promotions and discounts that they tell their customers.
Great company they where done with my car in one day and everyone was so nice!
Ive been going to Perkins for the past two years and have had nothing but great experiences. Theyve gone above and beyond for me with customer service with scheduling, repairs, and scheduled maintenance. Ive consistently seen their integrity, and honesty. For a young woman who doesnt know much about cars, it can be hard to find a mechanic who I trust. Ive had other mechanics try to take advantage of that, but Ive never had to worry about Perkins quoting me unfair prices or making unnecessary repairs. When a criminal was going around the neighborhood stealing catalytic converters, and stole mine while it was in their lot, they installed a new one completely free of charge. Ill be a loyal customer as long as Im in KC!
I live in the neighborhood so I want to support local business. I have in the past. This time it was unacceptable. I drop off my car Tuesday.I get a call Wednesday from greg asking when I was rear ended. I havent. After some confusion and panic we figure out the problem was with the valet key.MY wife drops off the key and talks to the person working on the car. He says he figured out the problem and it should be ready Thursday. 6:30 on Wednesday I get another call from Greg saying that I need new parts and it will take 2 or 3 days. I said that would not be possible as I need the car on Monday. He said that he would get used part. Now mind you that the Honda CRV 60 percent market share in 2000. My wife calls and says why the difference and we needed the car to move my daughter. Greg that it would not be a problem. I called Friday at 4:30 to see how it was going. He said that they were tracking the part. It would be there by seven or first thing Saturday. We repeat that we have to have the car. He said he would have the part first thing Saturday. Saturday Noon he does have the part. I said put it back together and I will pick it up. My wife and I go to pick it up. We are confused and go over what the guy working on the car said. He ignores my wife. He says that he is in charge of everything. Do not listen to what the man working on the car says.Bottom line if you cant trust the employees, then you cant trust the workmanship.
Never wanted to give a bad review of a business before now. Brought car in to get it inspected and they said I had a leak in the axle seal. I brought it back in to get that fixed. They screwed up my axle bearing due to improper installation when repairing the seal and I had to wait 6 days to get it repaired. Because they didnt want to pay for a rental they tried to say I could keep driving the 120 plus miles I drive daily for work even though there were metal shavings inside the bearing housing. I ended up getting a rental and had to go to the store two more times before I finally got reimbursed for the rental. It was clear they didnt want me at the store very long when they fixed their mistake, rushed as fast as possible to do the work, and made sure to get me out of the store away from customers as fast as possible. They wouldnt put anything in writing about the work done improperly and I had to ask twice for the old part back. These guys are not trustworthy and appear take advantage of women. Always take before and after pictures of work done and get a second opinion from somewhere else if you take your car to Perkins.
Use them all the time. Honest and reliable. Not the cheapest but I really dont know a cheap mechanic.
Was loyal to this company for a long time. Then a 12 hour oil change on 2 separate days, ended it. Was given a run around of excuses and tried to make me feel bad about asking why it took so long. Even had an appointment. When I tried to talk about it with them, the response was childish and no apology was ever given.Do not go here with anything, ever!
These guys are rip off artists! Run, run, run away. They tried to say my truck had a blown motor. All it needed was a fuel pump. Tried to charge me $8500.00 to fix it, then when I went to pick it up, they tried to up-charge the diagnostic fee. Then, after I took the truck back, they called and wanted to buy it!! Scammers!!
Great mechanics.
Always take my old truck here. Honest and prices are good. I recommend them.
Good mechanics. Reasonable and quick.
Always honest and quick service!
Never again and I wish Id looked them up on FB or Yelp first. Needed bulbs replaced in headlight and fog light. A girl quoted over the phone by a woman that it would be around $20 for each. I figured around $50-$60 for both then. Made an appt for the next day. They did the work and then told me the total was $124.30 ($34 for both bulbs + $80 labor - are you kidding me?). When I told then about the estimate I was given, the man just asked if I wanted them to take the bulbs back out. Seriously? No way you are taking my car back into the bays where I cant see it after arguing with me about it. Who the hell does business like that. Apparently Perkins Automotive does. I thought Id support a local business and save some money. I should have just taken my Jeep to Olathe DCJ like Ive done for years. I called and got a quote from them (too little too late) parts and labor there? About $86.00. Dont use Perkins!
I unfortunately have to agree with the last 2 reviews. Im thinking theyve undergone some new ownership/management over the past couple of years. My wife and I have been taking our vehicles there for about 3 years now with no complaints, but after my last 2 experiences there, we will not be back. I went in for a tune-up about amonth ago. They called and said I was due for some flush of my intake manafold for about $200-I agreed. They LATER called and said I needed NEW BRAKES AND NEW ROTARS bringing my total (for a tune-up) to $800! I limped away only to later find out that my hazard lights didnt work. When I took it back a few weeks later, assuming the problem way related to the work I had done there, they charged me $100 to replace a fuse!!!!!!!!!!!!
Use to love the service, long time customer, now just expensive and mediocre service.
They had my car for 2 weeks and each day I was told itll be ready the next. They wanna get paid but cant fix my car as promised.
The worst service I got in life ... only reason we went because we know Napa stride behind their parts and service.
They sell sell vouchers and make claims that they can work on your car. They cannot work on my car. No refund on sold vouchers. Take it up with the owner
I have never dealt with more shady people in my life!!!!
Had a 10am appointment to get my headlights fixed its been over 3 hours an they just got started on my car despite the fact that I had an appointment. Not only that other people were pulling up that did not have an appointment an they were been seen an car worked on. This is a horrible place to get your car service at.
They are sending out door to door solicitors on a weekly basis. We have a no soliciting sign on our door that these people never pay attention to. This kind of practice makes me never to want to bring my car to this place. Stop sending people to our door. Thank you.
Always fair and quick.
