I have been living at BullHouse Apartments since I arrived USA in Durham city. I have chosen BullHouse initially because it is gorgeous, clean, modern among other first-glance qualities that catches your eyes. And after living here for almost three years, I can say for sure that it wasnt just the beauty and great location, but also the staff, organization, freedom, amenities (that are just AMAZING) and of course the living unit itself. It is large, high ceiling (I just love it), modern appliances, floor, everything. Another factor that keeps me going here is the rapid and efficient maintenance staff. You open a ticket and it gets done!BullHouse strongly resonates with Durhams colorful vibe. Next to the new Bulls stadium, Duke centers, Durham Freeway, top cousin restaurants and the living vibe of downtown.

What’s the point of having this if it’s always empty? Why is everyone allowed to keep their trash out at all hours? Why are the tiles always loose by the third elevator and I slip every other time? Why is all the hardware in my unit made so cheaply? 8 of my cabinet knobs fell off. Faucet installed too far away from the basin so I can’t wash my hands properly. Can’t take a bath because there’s never enough hot water.

The location of this apartment is fantastic. I am within walking distance of all the best spots in Durham. The staff is extremely down to earth and I really appreciate all of their hard work. I came in with a bunch of questions come move-in day and before I could ask one, they had already answered them all. This staff knows what they are doing and I cant say that for most of the other apartments around the Downtown Durham area.If you are looking for a great apartment, this is the one!

We just moved in and absolutely love our apartment. Its super spacious, has tons of storage, and the finishes look great. We had a part missing on one of our appliances, but maintenance came the day after we submitted the request to figure out which part they needed to order. Cant beat the location and the amenities are great. There is a ton of construction right now in the area, but its only active during the day and its really more of a white noise from inside the apartment. Definitely recommend living here!

I havent been here long, but so far living at Bullhouse has been fantastic! Easily the nicest place Ive ever lived. The move-in process was so easy - Keara, one of the leasing assistants, is the nicest human ever. I start my morning every day by walking my dog & grabbing a free coffee, latte, or cappuccino from the coffee machine in the lobby. In the evenings, Ill go down to the pool for a bit of sun & to cool down. Weekends, friends will come over to grill food at the provided BBQs and pool. Once in a while I have a group of friends over to do board games in the gather room. The apartment itself is very nice, 10ft ceilings, stainless steel appliances, ceramic stove-top. Would definitely recommend living here!

Ive had three friends live here over the past two years, all with the same issues.... Picture it, Sicily, 1922 and a dance troop lives above you and the internet is non existent. You can hear the neighbors above you chewing their food and instead of streaming a movie, it would be quicker to hire a film crew and make your own movie. Unfortunately there are no fixes for the issues with this place. The building is wired for one internet provider and no one is gonna eat the cost of changing that and the floors seem to amplify sound... they would have to carpet every apartment... again, no one is eating that cost. Dont say I didnt tell you.

I lived in the Bullhouse for 3 years and for the first year had a great experience. Later on, I started becoming more aware of persistent issues and management also changed. For the price and label of luxury apartments, there are much better places to rent worth the value in downtown Durham, or Durham at large.Pros: great residents, downtown Durham locationThere are things that the Bullhouse cannot control, like having three ongoing construction projects surrounding the complex, and a loud train. These are still issues to be aware of in considering renting here.1. Security is a big issue. Key fob access is not required to get on the elevator or access apartment floors from the elevator or the parking garage. Anyone can enter the garage by following a car in. Multiple car thefts and bike thefts happened over the last 2 years and the response was to send emails regarding locking cars, ask residents to store bikes in apartments, and having a Durham police car parked in the garage...needless to say this didnt deter anyone from continuing to break into cars. There are no cameras in the garage. There are also no plans to address the gaps in security.2. The mail room was always littered with packages. They were about to start using Fetch to handle the package problem, so worth asking how that is going.3. Poor sound-proofing between apartments4. Management very difficult to get in touch with via email or phone5. Mold in my water spiggot that I needed to continuously clean and was not addressed with maintenance request6. The original kitchen hardware / flooring in all units are not great quality; They are having to replace the original flooring in units as people move out. My pantry shelf literally randomly broke. The oven temperature was very inaccurate when compared to a thermometer.7. Expect rent to go up significantly every year, but with this there are still no improvements in the areas that need improvements and that residents have brought to attention over and over again. There are also minor things that come with a luxury apartment that are always out / dysfunctional, like the coffee and the printer.

Security and management nightmare. The management at this place is terrible, but that is not so bad. If you wait a few months the management company will switch out the entire staff and hope it is better this time. The security is the real problem. Management never purges old tenants from the call box for entering the building. The security gate for the parking garage never works. Once you get access to the garage there are no locked doors to prevent you from accessing the building. Apartment doors dont automatically lock. The elevators have no security access locks. What does this all mean. Your car and your apartment are constantly at risk of theft which is why cars and bicycles are often broken into and stolen. It looks pretty but stay away if you value keeping your possessions. They cant even keep construction workers from the multitude of nearby projects from using the garage for parking.

Pros: Location, modern appliances, site amenities, high ceilings, dog-friendlyCons: Communication, fee discrepancySydney, the AM, was extremely helpful in getting us settled into our apartment on our move-in day. Prior to move-in day, communication was choppy- difficult to get ahold of the office (due to call volume I assume), and once we were approved for our lease, we did not have an email address or fax # to send important forms that were required to be emailed or faxed. Communication was also slower than desired to get our move-in paperwork to set up utilities. When we toured, the office was over-booked (our original scheduled tour time had to be changed a few days prior, and as you can imagine this was a headache for us, as we were touring multiple properties that day and had the schedule set), but Jim was able to fit us in and give us a nice tour. We like the location and amenities, as well as the modern appliances and rooms. After selecting the unit online, applying, being approved, and paying all of the deposit, fees, and 1st months rent, we were finally moving in to the apartment when Sydney informs us that this is the ADA-accessible unit. Which no one had mentioned, and was not in the leasing paperwork OR online. I do not need these accommodations, and was actively against this type of unit (for myself) due to the configuration and lowered countertops. Sydney was extremely helpful, showed us the only other unit available in our selected layout. She switched the lease, at the original rent price and terms, to this other unit. A few hours later than planned, we had the keys. To note: Bret, the manager, also approved a discount on 2nd months rent for the troubles we had, and we appreciate that.I am satisfied in the new unit, although to note: it is on the first floor, with no direct sunlight, while the original unit was on the top floor, with sunlight. So, satisfied, not over-the-moon with the location, but I understand it was the only option. One more thing to note: read your lease before signing and moving in (to ANY apartment). We had been overcharged for the pet fee, which was a lower price on the leasing documents, and Bullhouse has agreed to honor that lower price as well.

Lived in the Bullhouse for 1.5 years. Would not recommend living there when there are many options in the Durham area. In terms of the living space, fairly nice and there is some good amenities. The biggest downsides is security. I moved out a month ago, and anticipate management saying these issues are solved so I have some recommendations at the end.Pros:- Maintenance was great- Community amenities are niceCons not in Bullhouse control:- Multiyear construction on three sides making noise a problem- Frequently construction blocked a road or an exit- There was a lot of dust from the constructionCons in Bullhouse control:Security:Anyone can follow someone into the garage. Once in the garage, there is no security to get into the mailroom or floors. During my stay, my car was broken into once and my bike was nearly stolen. When I asked the bullhouse, about any footage, they said there are no cameras. They have since asked durham police to help, which has resulted in signs saying to lock your door and some security upgrades, however, anyone who can get into the garage continues to access to the mail room and even more scary access to every floor. After my bike was nearly stolen, I realized that the person has direct access to my floor and asked the bullhouse about security upgrades that would require badge access from elevators or parking garage. They told me it was too expensive to do that and there were no plans of doing that in the future.During my residence there, they simply put package in the mailroom which meant any resident (or as above anyone who snuck in) had access to packages. When I bought my mac, I actually had it shipped to southpoint mall as I thought it was safer.I had some other minor complaints, but the security risks are what I think every potential resident should know. I expect that management will say since you left, we have addressed these issues so if I was touring today I would ask how do you handle packages? and when touring pay attention to whether you need badge access to the floors via the elevators, from the parking garage, and into the mail room. There are multiple elevators, and I would test them. Remember, if while touring you can move around without having to badge in, then so can every other person.

Luxury apartment???? More like a complete disappointment and a money pit.The true disappointment comes from this past year. I wanted to stay so I moved apartments within the building. Catch #1. These big corporations will have you move apartments to offer you a “deal”. If I opted to stay in the apartment I was in, my rent was going to go up - such strange logic.....Anyway, the new apartment had condensation on the windows. I reached out to let the staff know. Nothing was done. 3 months rolled around and there was BLACK MOLD everywhere in the apartment, a building that is only about 4 years old. It took over a month to get something done, but in the meantime, many of my personal things became contaminated with mold. . . . . they said “sorry”, came in, cleaned up and spray painted over the problem and blasted my room with chemicals. The “luxury” bedroom I live in and the mold fix are beyond sub-par. I could not even sleep in my room for several days because of the chemicals. (note: I pay my rent on time and was still paying full rent).Bullhouse did offer to move me - to a MORE expensive apartment, selfishly receiving more money from me, still with no compensation made for my personal property. I did not take the offer because of the bigger expense (so of course, this is my fault for living here! 😡), and was any other compensation given??? NO. If I had ruined something of Bullhouse’s, I would have had to pay or replace it, so why shouldn’t a company that did not fix something on their property not have to replace their tenant’s ruined items??? Who knows?!?!?!? Inconsiderate and irresponsible. They do not care for you. It all about the money for them.I have continued to go back and forth with management from then until now (3 more months), all while looking for a new place to live. Everyday, I continue to wipe everything in the apartment down, and it is BLACK. All of my furniture has a black hue, not to mention I have pillows that had an impression of the pattern on the pillow in black on the insert. My mattress pad came out of the wash with black coming out of the cotton. No compensation or real apologies. The thought that black mold is still infested in this apartment and Bullhouse has not appropriately fixed anything is insane! They do not consider the health of their tenants or the comfort of their living. They do not care.Other items to complain about: ask any one about their Christmas Eve here this year… what were they doing? Not sleeping. Why? The fire alarms, which went off at all randoms times constantly, went off at 1am. This happened so many other times I can’t count. My dishwasher never really worked upon moving in to this apartment. I put in multiple work orders, and it only took 4 months to fix. UGH. The elevators break often. Don’t ride them. Save yourself from getting stuck for hours. But unfortunately, that means you will have to walk the dirty stairwells that have trash and dog feces, etc present. . . . and I know the people mentioned the construction. I know that this is out of Bullhouse’s hands but it is not fun to live in the middle of. Living here is miserable.

My partner and I flew from out-of-states to Durham one weekend to do some apartment shopping. After a long day of visiting multiple properties, we chose BullHouse apartments because management first impression was decent, and the tour was beautifully done.We applied on October 17, 2020, and got confirmed that our application was accepted, but pending rental verification. However, this pending rental verification became a month long wait.We contacted BullHouse Apartments multiple times by email and phone about next steps, and were told that they would get back to us. But they never did. We ended up finding another place, since we had to plan other moving logistics for our out of state move. Its November 16, 2020, and they just send us an email for the next steps. They are asking us for our income stubs, W2, photo ID, and current landlord information. Furthermore, they send us a welcome letter with moving and deposit cost information as well! The unprofessional communication Bullhouse Apartment showed us was the deal breaker for us.Im attaching our move-in cost for reference.

Bullhouse is a good apt complex in general if a bit pricey, however it is currently suffering from horrible construction noise at all hours from the lots that are immediately adjacent to the property. Occasionally the construction will go on all night. The units are not properly soundproofed so you will hear drilling, sawing, hammering etc making it impossible to work from home. The construction companies have zero respect for your quality of life, and there is no end in sight for the work Forget about sleeping in on weekends. Bullhouse has a nice gym, location and pool area, unfortunately some of these great amenities have been rendered moot with the pandemic. The maintenance staff is responsive and efficient. The appliances are new and work well, and the open floor plans are very nice and flexible to many design choices you may have. The management team is responsive but ineffective in addressing major issues (elevators sometimes are out for weeks at a time, garage doors out for a significant period of time, a fire alarm that is the loudest noise you’ve ever heard will sometimes go off unexpectedly); I do want to say that following a discussion with management I am cautiously optimistic that things will and are improving and admittedly some of these fall outside of their direct control (construction noise)There has been issues with the hallways consistently reeking of marijuana although this has improved recently. For whatever reason it is made very difficult to dispose of flattened cardboard boxes.

The amenities are top notch. The finishes and appliances in each apartment are durable and stylish to perfectly complement the high ceilings. The place is wonderful. Its a very nice, upscale apartment complex. The staff is wonderfully accessible & helpful. My biggest & main concern is that the security in this place is a Gameboy Level joke. Anyone can tailgate into the parking garage, granted that will happen anywhere. The huge problem with this is once youre in the parking garage, unlike some other complexes, you have total & unrestricted access to the ENTIRE building. This is the only one of these types of apartment complexes in the downtown area, that Ive been in, that has this gross (dare I say negligible) lax in security. This and the grossly obvious lack of security surveillance around the building is totally unacceptable. APPEND: (2.28.2020)And for some odd reason they cant seem to keep the fire alarm control system under control. This is the third time in roughly two months that it decides to go off. And it always seems to be at 3am in the morning. And this is even after theyve been testing it for the last couple of weeks...

I am a current resident and highly dissatisfied with the level of service that I have been provided as a tenant thus far. There seems to be a disconnect between management at BullHouse and it’s residents. I am highly concerned about safety due to the broken gate of the parking garage (which has been dis functioning since I moved here in September, 2019; our cars are a free for all), the lack of direct communication, and if you move here you will receive tons of apologetic emails for their lack.I hate being disregarded; I have stood in the lobby and watched management ignore my phone calls, they don’t returning my messages errOther which is a total insult to the $1,350 I pay on time monthly. In addition, the alarms have woken me at 3:30am with no valid explanation given the next day. I’m looking at Van Allen apartments for my next move, maybe they respect their tenants better, maybe you should look there too! Not worth it!I’m a current resident, and have been living here almost 11 months and I’m currently disappointed. Signed a 14 month lease to get a deal at the time so I’m stuck here through end of September because I’m not going to pay 2 months rent to break the lease early. There are some good things about this property, but the good does not outweigh the bad in my opinion. Especially for the cost.Pros:* Generally I like the layout of my apartment. There are a few things that were not very well thought out and could have been done differently to make it better.* Very spacious kitchen in my apartment. Nice appliances, cabinets, countertops.* Bathroom is nice, very spacious tub with curved shower rod.* Great sized walk in closets.* Location is convenient to downtown and Durham Freeway.* Care Team and residents that I have interacted with have been nice.* Front Desk, First Level support, Maintencnce that I’ve dealt with have always been nice and courteous.Cons:* Communication from upper management is horrible. Things are communicated to you after the fact or come across in a demeaning way.* Loud train makes sleeping in late difficult.* Parking Garage Gate has been frequently broken for multiple weeks at a time.* The parking spaces in the garage are awful. Cars are often not parked straight which you end up with either having to park extremely close and you have to squeeze out of your own car. Other times there are wasted spaces because it just won’t fit because a car on each side of the empty space would be on the line or over the line just enough that the empty space is not useable. Some of this is because other residents do not park correctly, but also because the parking spaces are VERY small.* It’s a maze inside the building. From the main entrance where the leasing office is you are on the 3rd floor. The 3rd floor here doesn’t even connect to the rest of the 3rd floor of the building. You have to take the elevator up to the 4th floor, walk to a different part of the building (which has a lot of twists and turns) then take another elevator back down to the 3rd floor (or whatever floor you are trying to get to). I’ve run into delivery drivers (Door Dash, Shipt, etc) in the halls who are always lost and confused about where they are. You get used to it after you’ve lived here for a while, but very poorly designed.* Because of the poorly designed maze of a building, it can be a long walk to carry groceries from your car to your apartment. Or your trash from your apartment to the trash chutes (since valet trash doesn’t run on weekends or holiday). Also long walk from apartment to the mail room. Very picky on cardboard box disposal, which has to be taken down to the first floor (another long walk). Your large boxes are NOT included in your valet trash that’s mandatory in your rent.* About 1 in every 3 lights in the hallway between my apartment and the parking garage are burned out. There is plenty of light to see, but it’s just another example of what I expect for “luxury living”.* Cable / Internet are automatically included. (I’ve seen their response on this in other reviews that it’s “convience to pay one less bill”. But I don’t watch cable TV, so I’m being forced to pay for something I don’t use!)* The few times I’ve had guests here, the parking is horrible. But this is true for most apartments where I’ve visited as well. It’s not a horrible place. There are just far too many problems that I’ve noticed over the months I’ve lived here that pile up in the list of cons that don’t equal the value of what I pay for my rent here.I saw this review from another resident and I agree, “My experience at bullhouse is kinda like a roller coaster at times it is wonderful the community is great, amenities are kept up, and staff respond quickly. At other times the staff only seems occupied with impressing new residents and completely neglects the current ones”

As a disclaimer, I am writing this review after my boyfriend and I have signed our lease, but we have not moved in yet (our move in date is in late May). However I dont want to wait to share my experience, as the reviews already posted helped me make my decision to sign and I hope sharing my honest review can be helpful for others. I walked into the leasing office on Monday the 16th at about 6:15 pm (it closed at 7 pm) and Melody (one of the leasing agents), helped me until about 9:45 pm...which is an INSANE amount of time and obviously well beyond when the office closed. That being said, she was patient, lively and attentive the whole time. She never once made me feel rushed. She understood when I needed to look at the same exact unit several times in a row, and compare it to an identical unit across the hall before making a decision (not that every unit looks the same, they are actually all very different! I just had one specific floor plan I ended up being the most interested in). I also happened to be touring during one of the community social events. Melody knew residents by name, demonstrated excellent rapport among the group, and connected me to future neighbors. She literally encouraged me to talk with people and make sure the complex would be a good fit for me or not. I felt very welcomed and safe and like I had nothing to worry about. Even though our official move in isnt until May, staff invited us to start coming to the social/community events to meet other residents and get comfortable with the complex and surrounding area. The complex is in an up and coming area of downtown Durham so not everything around Bull House is developed yet, but theres lots of great bars nearby and when I left the complex at ~9:45/10:00 PM I felt safe walking to my car alone.I actually toured three total apartment complexes that day, but really I saved Bull House for last because I figured it would be the best option for my boyfriend and me, and wanted to end the apartment search at the best complex :) I definitely felt that walking into the office I cant speak highly enough of Melody, Mollie and the other leasing staff. We are looking forward to being a part of the community.

Management doesn’t care about the residents well being. They care about money and marketing this building. We have bugs crawling on us. Sinks and dish washers doesn’t work. Cabinets don’t close properly. THE TRAIN IS SO LOUD! I have bought ear plugs and white noise machine and nothing helps block the train noise that happens 5-8 times a day.

Better places for the money.**Update** even with its reply to my review, the management here has made clear its policy of sweeping issues under the rug. I limited my review to issues and knowledge that I had during my residency. The reply ignores all of those and focuses on issues at move out, which I had omitted from my review of the living experience.I lived here for 2 years here is my honest impression. On the whole it is a nice facility, if shoddily constructed. Management seems more concerned with sweeping issues under the rug rather than making it a truly nice place to live. The GOOD: The Cares Team and front desk staff are great!Coffee and tea bar is well-stockedStaff will work with you to hold packages, etc. Most maintenance requests are handled promptly and effectively.Closets are really well designed. My studio unit had nicer appliances than any other studio unit that I have seen in the area. The BAD:Attitude of upper management/ownershipFor example, management refused to respond to, or even notify other residents of repeated break ins and bike thefts from the garage until multiple residents complained.General manager tends not to reply to emails at all.Advertising:Bullhouse advertised to many as having a year-round heated pool, but turned off the heat in the Fall. They also advertise as having both a yoga room and spin studio. These are the same room, and it is not possible to use it for either purpose unless you move the spin bikes. The bike repair room was never built but continues to appear on the website. The Parking lot is basically a free for all. The Compact spots are significantly smaller than compact spots anywhere else. I parked my Impreza next to a MiniCooper and almost had to crawl out the window. As a result, people just disregard the lines. As far as I can tell, management made no effort to address any of these concerns by remarking spots, educating tenants, or taking any other measures. The management also refused to paint no-parking zones in the guest parking area despite the fact that the design of this driveway meant that improperly parked cars would limit the road to one lane.Poor soundproofingI typically did not hear my neighbors, but oh my god could I hear the Amtrack. Wasnt a huge issue, but this really should have been addressed by the architect to add some additional insulation to units facing the tracks.Patio door to nowhereThis has since been corrected but for about 1 year, the door from the Fuel coffee area to the patio was impossible to open from the outside and surrounded by a fence with no gate. This meant that you literally had to jump the fence if you walked out the door.Frequent fire alarmsMany of these were due to poor communication with the construction crew (or more accurately the construction crews unwillingness to communicate). They became less frequent, but still occurred more often than anywhere else that I have lived.**Warning if you have pets of small children** These fire alarms are definitely above the 120 Decibel threshold for permanent hearing damage in humans. I do not know why they were calibrated in this way, but trust me, you will notice when they go off.Door Locks - Building maintenance does not respond to after hours lockout requests and Locksmiths in the are are not able to open the doors without permanent damage. This is mitigated by the fact that the front office is open during the weekends, but it is not uncommon to see a resident sleeping in the common area due to a lost or malfunctioning key.All-in-all, nothing is terrible, its just not what you would expect given how much they charge and how they present and advertise themselves. I know many people who were less bothered by these shortcomings than I was, and this may very well meet your needs and preferences better than mine. However, I would expect the tendency to ignore problems until they go away to get more severe as the property ages.

I often come to the Bullhouse to visit my friend. Everyone in the office is always super nice and fun to chat with while we grab a coffee. We like going to the gym to work out, they’ve even added little things such as cooled towels to use while there. On the weekends it’s a quick walk down to Bull City ciderworks or Wine Feed which are both super cool places to hangout. If I worked closer to Durham I would certain like to call Bullhouse home!!

*DO NOT LIVE HERE* Current resident and I cannot wait to get out of this place for two main reasons 1) Poorly designed building structure 2) LOUDEST TRAIN VIBRATING ON YOUR WINDOWS LIKE EVERY HOUR1.- The building is an actual maze, miles and miles of hallways with very few elevators. The parking and the trash chutes are located in only one of the ends of the building so prepare to take on like a mile-long hike while you carry your trash across the building. (Valet trash “ammenity” (obligatory extra $ charge) only allows for a trashcan and a bag and it does not come during the weekends). There’s a very limited number of elevators, when one breaks, which happens really often, they take really long to fix them... so very not friendly for pregnant women, injured or disabled people.2.- the Train is literally across the street and it’s so loud it vibrates through your windows!! I can’t use my own balcony to relax without getting shaken by a ridiculously loud horn, or I can’t sleep-in during the weekends or weekdays without getting waken up by it. This was, of course, never mentioned during my tour!!- Conclusion - do not live here... the staff really is great and there is a great sense of community, but that does not overweight for what you have to deal with every day, not if you’re paying this much for rent :-) there are multiple new apts in Durham, do not get stuck here!!

This location is amazing! Walking distance to restaurants, the DPAC, DBAP, breweries & my personal fave...the wine feed! The growth in Durham is really showing in this area & I cant wait to see what else pops up! As for the actual building - finishes & amenties are absolutely beautiful. Sleek & contemporary without being too cold. This is truly a unique place to live with a really great vibe! Finally, I seriously cannot say enough about the on-site staff. They are all beyond amazing, from the moment you walk into the door you immediately feel right at home. They are always willing to go that extra step to help in any way they can. You will not regret leasing here!

I am a previous tenant. Im not someone to typically posts reviews online, but felt it necessary to warn others. Bullhouse has all of the bells and whistles to allure, but once you are a tenant, things change. I was one of the first tenants in the building. Things did not start out on the greatest foot, and multiple amenities such as the parking garage, were stalled in the construction process. This stall is completely understandable and expected, and often occurs with new construction, but they promised that these amenities would be complete within a certain timeframe, and would not adjust rents accordingly. While there are some friendly people on staff, several of the front desk employees are blatantly rude on a routine basis, and there is high management turnover. The tenant garage is extremely dangerous with multiple blind turns. I never had hot water for more than 5-6 minutes in my apartment for the entire 16 months that I lived there, and even after SEVERAL work orders, the water issue was never resolved. Every time a new manager was hired, I would have to explain the water situation over to them, and start from square one again. They were always diligent in responding to emails, but if there was any sort of issue, you would have to follow-up with management multiple times to get a response. Prior to my lease being up, I discussed with management the option of moving to another apartment unit within Bullhouse, so I could potentially have hot water and move to a higher floor to avoid noise; they were lukewarm (no pun intended) about this idea, and said I could move to another unit, but they would charge me a transfer fee of $400, which I felt was insensitive, given my ongoing hot water issue in my unit. They were also dishonest, and in multiple discussions regarding my renewal, they never mentioned to me that the empty lot across from my unit had been sold several months earlier and a multi-unit apartment complex was slotted to be built right in front of my window, which would mean continuous construction noise and eyesore. It took me doing research on my own to figure this out. I ended up leaving three weeks prior to my lease being up, and moved to another apartment complex, as they were trying to increase my rent (even with the water issue). In several documented emails, I told management of my move-out date, and notified them 60 days in advance that I would not be renewing, per their protocol. In the end, they tried to charge me hundreds of dollars in fees upon move-out; i.e., I was never told I would need to return my plastic key fob to the front desk at move-out, and sign a form. I assumed that the plastic key fob would be deactivated, and I had done my due diligence in letting them know (multiple times by email, and with 60 days notice) that I would not be renewing. I wont elaborate further, but the headache continues on, even after moving out over a month ago. I am almost 40 years old, and I have never encountered a living experience so poor, and I have lived in many apartment complexes, in multiple cities and abroad. There are several other options in Durham!! I urge you to go elsewhere!

Short version: This place, and more importantly the management staff, are AMAZING!!! I miss it with all of my heart. It truly made living in North Carolina worth it!A more detailed version: I have spent the last 11 years of my life in several apartments, in several states, and this is by far one of the BEST experiences and apartments I have resided in.The apartments themselves: The apartment was extremely spacious, large closets, great shelving, stainless steel appliances, clean, sleek, etc. I was there extremely early on in the construction of the complex, and my personal experience was that maintenance and the management staff were on top of fixing any and every problem I encountered. Mind you, I didnt have too many issues or problems with my apartment, and therefore I am slightly biased, but still. The community: I absolutely loved living in this apartment complex. I used to joke that this place was a one-stop-shop. Filled with young, and driven, professionals, the people there could truly solve any problem ever. The complex has the most AMAZING cares team, and the events are a blast! Monday night football, wine Wednesday, brewery tastings, holiday parties, pool parties, Friendsgiving, chilli cook-offs, a crepe chef, bagel breakfasts, and more. This place is a blast! I have made unforgettable friendships, and I miss always having someone to hang at the pool with! Shout out to those who plan to do a Polar Bear Plunge this winter!Management: Let me start off by stating that I walked into this complex with the fear of working with Greystar again. I lived in a Greystar complex for many years, and was extremely frustrated with their constant change in management staff, and how they dealt with transitions. I constantly felt as though new staff members were unaware of the culture in the complex, and tried to nickel and dime the residents every time new staff came in.THIS apartment complex challenged that! Yes, the management staff changed a little less than 6 months in, and again 9-10 months later. Still, their transitions were almost flawless, slowly transitioning new staff in and out, allowing for the culture of the complex to remain, and dare I say- even improve! In effort to make this extremely long post only a little shorter (still another paragraph to go), these guys made my life easy and enjoyable. More importantly, when my life / future employment and state of residence was in flux, they worked with me to make my move as easy as possible. A huge shout out to Jen and Kylie!!! Greystar is lucky to have you!Yes, not everything was hunky-dory. When I first arrived, I was told they would have a year-round, heated pool. Needless to say, they heated the pool for a day or two in winter of 2017-2018, and apparently had stopped the day before I decided to take a nice swim during a snowstorm (the video of my friend and I learning the pool was no longer heated is a sight to see). This, however, was not the fault of the management company, but the original owners. The parking garage took some time to complete, and I believe there was a water billing concern at one point. The random fire alarms also wreaked havoc at times. Its an apartment complex. Not everything can be perfect. What I can tell you is that the staff, in my opinion, worked tirelessly to address and fix any issue that was brought to them.I am sure there are a ton of opinions out there, and there are always obstacles and imperfections in a complex, but this team and the amenities (activities included) were the best Ive had in a while!Miss you guys!

Visited my friends apartment and honestly not impressed with the construction of the facility. Seems rushed and incomplete with paint splatters everywhere and still had construction dust when they moved in. As for the title luxury it doesnt seem any different besides the amenities if a lower classes apartments. I was even told not to go on the balcony because they arent made to withstand weight... I mean its a balcony!

So far, our experience at BullHouse Apartments (BHA) has been fenomenal. The staff is very responsive, cheerful, knowledgeable, and polite. Communication prior our pre-relocation visit was always through email, and response time would usually take less than 2-hours during work hours and less than 24 hours otherwise. Once there, they took us to visit over 5 apartment models without any hassle or hurry. We inspected each apartment with detail and attention. The facilities are brand new, clean, and apparently functioning (from what we could perceive). The rooms are usually carpeted and with varying size walking closets; while the kitchen/living/dinning rooms are woody. The kitchen style is modern/industrial (which we loved). The roofed garage parking was recently completed, so parking away from sunlight during summer will be an option. Nonetheless, BHA is located in an area were there is tons of surrounding free-parking for visitors. Speaking of surrounding areas, many restaurants, pubs, microbreweries, Durham Performance Arts Center, Baseball stadium, bus stops, Durham Freeway, and many other ammenities are extremely nearby. Traveling to Durham Medical Center took me 6 minutes by car in the morning. We will be officially moving to BHA in summer, and I am sure that the relocation process will be swift. One-thousand shout outs to Kylie and Melody- they rock!

Bullhouse is similar to some of the newer properties in Durham such that there is a high price for rent but they include multiple amenities and plan some group activities to help counteract this. You also have access to free tea and coffee for what thats worth. Pre-fixed cable contracts of $125 and cost of valet trash are also added to your monthly rent.Pros1. Location is convenient- close to the Bulls stadium, some restaurants and the local free bus line2. Apartments are new and spacious3. Staff is great and tenants are nice/polite/quiet.Cons1. Location is convenient - see comments below about train. It is really on the outskirts of town, close to the 147 highway, local jail and courthouse and some more sketchy areas (which would likely develop over the next few years since there is a lot of construction going on)2. Apartments are new - no one has lived in some of the units to identify the numerous problems wrong with the units3. Staff is great - but limited in their ability to help. While interactions with the management staff have been relatively professional, my experience living here did not live up to what was promised by the management, website and leasing office staff. Due to the issues listed below, I decided to prematurely break my lease after only 3 months of living here.1. Within the first few days, a closet cabinet fell off the wall. This was the first sign that this is a poorly constructed unit.2. Noted and reported a leak from the window which was supposedly fixed but.....see next point.3. Leak recurred and water soaked the carpet around the window and then required stacks of towels every time it rained.4. There are random moments when areas of the apartment would lose power requiring the breaker to be flipped to fix it. This seems unsafe and could lead to damaged appliances5. The supposedly brand new cooking range had an issue where the hot surface light remained permanently on. Concern for circuitry problem.6. Had an ant infestation and they appeared to be coming from a crack in the outdoor walls. Needed pest removal.7. The icing on the cake was a stolen bicycle from the balcony - thankfully, this was later found. There were no security cameras or locked gates in locations that would have helped.8. The fire alarms have gone off twice both at 1-2AM during heavy rainfalls. Unclear what the winter storms will do9. It is right beside the train tracks. You might get used to the whistles at all hours of the day but it is good to be forewarned.10. Read your lease closely. There is a 60 day notification for move-out in addition to 2 months buyout, so, despite explaining my concerns, I am still being held accountable for thousands of dollars as the leasing company refuses to budge.Others may have had different experiences here but it is important to know the good and bad prior to making your decision. Good luck!
