Honestly, this place is just bad. Since only students can live here now, let me say it isnt worth the increase in housing rate. Youre better off in the newer dorms. The past two years frats and SLGs have partied and damaged the place. Walls are thin. Water smells like sulfur. Youre right next to the highway. Staff is lazy after the apartment was bought by Duke. Find an apartment somewhere else if you arent a Duke student or just live in a dorm.
They do not keep their units up to date for residents and they’re petty!1. I moved into my apartment where all the faucets and even the showers had an intense sulfur, rotten egg, smell. When I brought attention to this matter, the front desk did nothing but say leave the water running for 20 mins. I asked my neighbors about this issue and the majority of them had the same issue with the same response. Even a month later, I can still smell it every time I run the shower. It’s to the point where the shower head has corrosion from this issue.2. The day I moved in we found the frame of the main doorway chipped, so there’s bare wood exposed in the apartment. Completely visible to anyone who walks in or out. Another issue I brought to the front desk where no repair or help was given to fix the problem. Instead, I was given the notice from the front desk that “some of the apartments come with some wear and tear.”3. I enjoy cooking my own meals. However, the first time I cooked and tried to wash dishes. I was surprised with a non-functioning disposer so the sink never drains.4. I have always been a Good Samaritan when it comes to parking. I never double park or try to impede my neighbors access to their car door. However, last week after a VERY long day I parked my car by the elevator slightly over the line and went to my bed to come back in the morning to my car missing. I found that my car has been towed not even an hour after I retuned to the apartment. The apartment complex is actively searching daily to tow cars away for the slightest infractions even though the other parking space is not legal by Durham, NC laws and regulations. They are trying to cut corners or take profits wherever they can.
Poor maintenance and upkeep for new residents.1. We moved in and the master bathroom had mold/mildew all over it which I ended up having to scrub out and have the shower resealed.2. Then poor ventilation of the apartment. Why is one room burning hot and the living room chilly and the master bedroom an ice box. The 1st the vent wasnt connected to the boiler unit in the apartment, that should have fixed it, only in a perfect world. Instead the problem persisted. 2nd solution was to close the vents in all the other rooms to increase airflow to the master, then informed us its just something we have to live with, no go. The 3rd solution put foam door liners in the seal of the window, semi permanent, it lift ups. (Took almost 2 months to reach a somewhat satisfactory remedy that maintains some warmth in the master bedroom.) The somewhat satisfactory fix did not last this cold week in March. Then they evicted the non students residents and have the audacity to send out survey on what they should renovate to improve the apartments.
Nice place.
