Terrible building. The laundry room is always filthy, hallways smell of smoke and now they have a pest issue. Pretty sure there are project buildings more decent than this building!

Up until 2 weeks ago I would have given this property 4 stars. My husband and I stayed here for 3 years while finishing medical school.. We did not have a car so proximity to public transport was great,, weenjoyed being so close to the lake and staff were friendly. Im one of those people that truly tries to be grateful for what provided me through hard times.I would have just warned you about how the AC had to be on all year long because without proper wall insulation, the hot water for the radiator radiated through the walls and made the apartment naturally over 80 at all times. Its best to get a PO box because our mail was stolen multiple times. More than once, people not authorized to get into the building snuck in and caused some ruckess (including coming to our floor and unrolling the fire hose in the hallway in front of the door). This was manageable though, you just had to make adjustments.Unfortunately, two weeks ago I got a surprise call from a credit collection service saying that I needed to pay them for an overdue bill of hundreds of dollars for 7100 S Southshore drive, that this was already on my rental profile (whatever tf that is) and that soon my credit score would be effected. I had NEVER received a bill from the complex after moving out, we made sure our balance was taken care of before we left. As I had no idea what this collector was talking about, I hung up on him. Never just hand hundreds of dollars over to someone without knowing what for. My husband reached out to the property manager, was told she knew nothing about it and we needed to call corporate. Called corporate and was told the project manager was the one who had access to that billing information. Called the project manager again and was told that we had carpet damages and extensive cleaning. My husband informed her that the apartment was given to us filthy (the previous tenant had a massivd grease spill amongst the wall that we inherited. We put in a maintenance order for it, maintenance did a quick mop job that didnt touch it, then I tried to get at it every time I cleaned a kitchen and never made a dent in the mess). We were to that we could try and challenge the deep cleaning charge. My husband requested details about the damages and we were told again to call corporate and get more information because they just send them pictures of the unit after vacancy and then apparently corporate decides the charges. Corporate immediately said we have no idea what she is talking about and sent us back. At that point, the manager THEN gives us the details of the damage to the carpet, does not provide how the arbitrary hundreds of dollars was calculated that we owed, informed us that the deep cleaning was not actually a charge and suggested that we just pay so our credit wasnt affected.Mind you, this is highly predatory, aggressive and unethical behavior. I was never presented a bill with the breakdown of charges and the chance to pay the balance. My bill was sent to a creditor where I was immediately threatened with credit score repercussions. I dont deny damages and I would have paid. My husband was bounced around for days trying to understand what the payment was for. We were given arbitrary numbers with no clue what they were for specifically or how they were calculated, which took away our power to challenge any that could have been inflated or not our responsibility. Your financial stability and economical wellness is so extremely important and for this building to blatantly threaten and attack that... I am no longer able to recommend this building and I highly encourage future tenants to inquire about these processes when looking for a place to stay.

I would give this apartment a 2.5 star rating. I wanted to be fair, so I gave pros and cons about the apartment based on my experiences.Pros- near the lake- Near Hyde park- Easy to get downtown- Bus stops close- Potentially good view- Friendly staff- Donada replies quickly to emails- Dog friendly- Divvy bikes super close by- Cute apartmentCons- Basically a food desert, but just built a grocery store near by so thats progress.- Old building so it has old building issues.- Water pressure in my apartment was terrible, takes at least an hour to fill tub. (Asked to have this fixed never happened)- Some shady activity. ex. Someone peed and left feces in the stairwell (these were two different occasions.)- A lot of Spiders. Other Random bugs here- Always a note on the door saying either there will be apt inspections or water will be off. Always something.- My view was of the parking lot. (again there is potential for a nicer view)- Beware of apts on the side of parking lot: Garbage trucks come at 5/6 am often and are so loud as well as the gate slamming constantly.- Office does not have great hours. I’m out of the apt for work from about 7 am-6:30 pm. The office opens late and closes early. I feel like it there should be more staff and the office should have longer hours because most people work and it can’t make it in during their reg hours.- Radiators have so much dust under the covers and have clearly not been cleaned in years. Noticed when I first moved in.

LIVED THERE APPROXIMATELY 3 YEARS. PROFESSIONAL, AMAZING, HARD WORKING STAFF!!! BUILDING NEEDS UPDATED PLUMBING, ETC. NICE AREA WITH GREAT PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION!

I love this building and the staff! Danada is beyond helpful and always so warm and welcoming. I only had one issue I had to reach out to maintenance for and they resolved the issue within 24 hours. I lived here two years ago and only moved because I relocated for work. Now I’m back in Chicago and I just paid a move in fee and will be moving back in soon!! I recommend taking a look at this property if you are in the market for a new apartment home!!
