I have seen many bad reviews on this location. Luckily, I had a smooth ride, check-in was good, good car, checkout wasn’t hard, got a free upgrade as well. But I can see how they can be rude n unprofessional(which I think is just their way) and also over charge you if you are not on top of it. They will make you buy full insurance if you do not have the declaration form (not just insurance card), so make sure you have that or show your insurance policy on your insurance app.
I tried this company for the first time and will be my last. When booking the reservation all was well, customer service Rep, was great. When I arrived to my pick up location (PR),, thats when everything when downhill. Normally when I rent a car I waived the insurance and use my normal car insurance. They say that I cant not waive the insurance and have to pay the coverage Wich was extremely expensive. They said the only way to use my insurance it to have a letter from the insurance saying my car value was more that 20k. After some time calling, I decided to just pay the coverage and go my way. Then the car I received was in an awful shape, the interior smells like sweat, the alignment was off, the suspension was terrible for a 2020 car. I ended up returning the car and getting another for a different company and safe almost 700 for the same time frame. Watch out, cheaper is not always better.
Tons of terrible reviews here by people who are obviously ignorant to the fact that not only was the island ravaged by a hurricane, they just like every other business is finding their footing during a pandemic.My rental car experience was great. The young man who helped me was efficient and friendly. The entire process took no more than 20 minutes and likely because I was kind, I even got a free upgrade.The car was clean and reliable and made our trip better than we planned.
Reserved online for a standard sized car. Could not find the transport van at the airport to get to the rental location. Payless is sharing the van service from another local rental location which does not have the name written on it or the descriptions given on the website. Don’t bother calling for the van they don’t pick up the phone, also the message that they say when they don’t pick up the phone has the information about the shuttle in Spanish and Spanish only.Once we got to the place (45 min later), we were given a ticket and asked to wait outside to be called in. 45 min later we are let into the building to be told to wait in a chair. 15 min later I’m called to the desk. At the desk they pull up my reservation ask for my license, where I am staying and credit card. I wait 15 min for him to ask me the next question which was if I have insurance I say yes. But I ended up paying $400 more than the estimated price from the booking, not sure from what or what I asked for. I got a bigger car and it was new so that was a plus for the terrible service.A total of 3 hours after arriving at the airport we drove away with our nice rental.Drop off was quick and easy, which was a big surprise. Make sure you flag down the shuttle so they don’t leave you.
This will be my our first and last time renting from this company. First they highly recommend that we get an toll pass that you wont need. And there are bunch of local fees they dont list on the website when making the reservation. When we got the car we later discovered to our horror that the vehicle was roach infested. They were literally crawling all over the interior and exterior of the car. After a stressful ride back to the rental place we were able to exchange the vehicle for a different one. While the new car wasnt roach infested it had a tire that kept losing air, all the tires were missing tire caps and the Apple car play worked whenever it wanted to. And to top it off when it came time to return the car the gas tank cover wouldnt open. It was overall an awful experience and a major inconvenience. Will never rent from this company again.
Horrible service!!! Took almost an hour to check out the car. Horrible cars!!! They have Cockroaches in the car!!!! Do not rent from them. They quote you a lower price and up charge you once you get there. You’re better off renting from a main chain rental agency. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE!!!!!!
AVOID THIS COMPANY. I went on vacation to Puerto Rico and tried to pick up the vehicle. First, the office is not at the airport. You need to catch a shuttle bus to get there. I waited over 2 hrs for a bus that never showed up. I called their local number to find out about the shuttle bus but all I got was a busy signal on the phone. Next, I tried to contact their corporate number but I was told that I needed to contact the local number. The corporate customer service person told me that there were nothing they can do for me. So there I was in Puerto Rico without a rental car. Lucky for me Enterprise had vehicles available. I cannot believe that a company will be this inresponsable and careless about their customers. THIS IS THE WORST RENTAL CAR EVER. AVOID AT ALL COST.
My experience was very good. Checking in was smooth, no pressure to buy additional insurance since I have my own insurance info on an app and my credit card provides additional rental insurance. Rental was new and clean other than the heavy 420 smell. No complaints here.
Very EXPENSIVE car wash. The 3 stars go to the shuttle driver and the guys outside handling the cars. The women at the counter needs to get a job with the least customer contact possible- she is very arrogant, lacks empathy and professionalism, I’m not happy wetting this because there’s nothing more that I would like but to see my Puerto Rican people succeed. I called to ask about a $43.50 charge on my card, she said it was for all the sand on the rugs and the trunk. She literally said it’s on the small print on the contract. She argued that if it was my car I would have made sure to shake off the sand before coming inside of it. My response to her was that it’s robbery to mention about the Tolls, The Gas and the insurance but she said nothing about sand in the car or a car wash. I would have gladly taking the car to a car wash just as I filled up the gas tank to avoid any surprises. Her attitude is as bad on the phone as it was in person the day we picked up the car (8/24 to 8/30)2020. My friend was hit with a $54.00 for his rental because of sand on the tires and the rugs- what a sham.
Looks like changing the name bolstered their rating a hole point. Especially un-trustworthy business. Avoid this scam, your wallet will thank you.
Service is slow & terrible! Only giving 1 star because I have to for review. Took over an hour to get the car, it smelled like trash & sweat. They wont let you use your insurance & force you to buy theirs. If you have an option stay away from this rental car location
Had reservation for 1 week they picked us up at the airport shuttle was easy to find. Everything was great.. The only thing is they put a bunch of EXTRA charges ends up being hundreds more. The deposit is $200 YOU DO NOT GET THAT BACK. My husband and I called to see why they have not returned it after telling us car looked good. He said “you have to contact your bank they are the ones that have to give it to you” I could not help but laugh. I mean he sounded so ridiculous this was a week after returning the car. Now here I sit almost 1 month later and I see no deposit back of those $200.00. I was honestly embarrassed to say this man was Puerto Rican and sounded so uneducated. Come on Puerto Rico we are better then this let’s show people we are not dirty. I Will not do business with these people again.

For a car rental place, this site is as good as it gets. We had decent customer service. CHECK YOUR TIRES BEFORE LEAVING WITH THE CAR. I had balding on one of the tires. I pointed it out and they upgraded me.

The people that work there we extremely nice. However, the price I was “estimated” wasn’t even close to what I paid. I was quoted around $500 for the week. When I got there I was forced to get the insurance which was an additional $200 (which they tried to pressure me into getting an even more expensive insurance which was I think around $300, but I declined). I also asked for an EZpass which I never received (an additional $5 a day). On top of this; they tried to charge me an additional $200 dollars for God knows what. Which never went through because they took all my money already. Was estimated $500 and they tried to charge me $900. Don’t waste your time.
Reserved an economy car online for 193.00 week. Arrived in Puerto Rico on a Saturday 2PM waited 45 minutes for shuttle (called twice to inquire when shuttle would arrive) finally took taxi. Arrived at Payless rental to be greeted by the rudest woman who informed us the car was not available but she could rent us a van for 645.00 for the week. She also informs us she needs to see our car insurance policy or we will need to purchase insurance from them. I have never heard of a rental place needing this! Called our insurance agent who said they would email it to her she couldn’t find it in her email so we finally just paid and left. This took about 1.5 hours of wasted time. The van was fine. When we returned van again this took about 45 minutes then we waited 45 minutes for shuttle to airport. I would not recommend this rental place you will waste a lot of time and overpay for the rental. This was some of the worst customer service I have ever seen.
Was thankful to get a vehicle with the shortage in the island. However the car reeks of smoke so out vacation has been miserable with my daughter and I I having terrible allergies. Sprayed some air freshener tonight only to have roaches crawl out from the consoles. They never pic up local number. I had to take my child’s car seat out so that it wouldn’t be covered with roaches in the morning.
Worst service ever! Car smelling like marijuana and dirty as hell, bold tires, charging extra for everything (tolls, insurance, $75 charge for a $50 parking ticket-$35 if paid in 15days, I wish I had throw it away ). Cost me about $850 for 5 days in total😬
It was awful. We got to our reservation on time and had to wait almost 2 hours for the car. While we were inside the office they didn’t ask us about any extra expenses just ran them on our card automatically. They were extremely rude when we asked about this and then had us wait an extra 30 mins for the car after everything was signed. they didn’t let us get any plan we wanted for the car and just charged us as much as they could. In the end it was $850 for a compact car for only 5 days!
Im pretty sure these guys know there is a shortage of rental cars. Expedia quoted me $486 and before I showed the guy the written expedia quote, he tried to charge me $850 plus insurance plus a toll tag that wasnt accepted on a list of toll roads. Plus it took over 1 hr to get my car. Be extra careful here. Take a video of the car and any damage already there. Make sure you pay what you were quoted. Also if you are covered by your jobs insurance for rentals have a copy of the policy to show them if your credit card offers insurance, check and print it before buying their inflated policy. Capitalism at its best here. Beware.
So this is actually the second day we have had this car picked it up last night, the outside was absolutely dirty never washed, and the inside smelled mildewy and with a touch of nauseating smell that lingered we bought glade spray to no avail, spent 404$ plus a 200$ deposit had to get cleaning wipes because everything you touched was sticky as if it was never cleaned and every wipe we used came out dirty and black. Brought my wife to Puerto Rico for her birthday and this is definitely placing a damper on our trip. Will continue to share this experience until we are heard.

Be aware Payless/easyway doesn’t comply with agreement on rental prices or deals made through Priceline. They’ll nickle and dime you for every expense possible on any rental agreement. This is the San Juan, PR office.
Let’s start off by saying 5am was open time for them and they never answered they phone for questions about shuttle. I called 25 times and no answer. They answered the phone by 5:45am 45 mins later! Me, my baby and husband was waiting for a shuttle that whole time! Very frustrating and unprofessional! Never will I book with them again

Horrible service. Reserved online for 6 days for $172 a compact car. Showed up and charged me DOUBLE! We were so mad! Another man returning a car for 4 days was charged the appropriate price. We were told the situations was the difference. He would not budge on anything. Soooo many added fees even though our online reservation said it included all taxes and fees. This will be going up the chain of command. Avoid this location for sure. Rent a car from something in the airport.

Let’s just say, very poor customer service and you will never get someone to answer a phone. Got to airport and sat for an hour because they stated it’s a yellow van with red sunglasses but never saw it and they have no signs anywhere. It’s outside the airport and had to take a taxi $20 for a 3 minute drive.Got there and they have 3 car rental companies in one office and your gonna wait in line.They actually force you to get the insurance even though I asked I have my own like usually do and I can show my app to show proof and he stated it’s mandatory and even told him that my capital one covers my rentals at a max! Asked again and got the same answer. $15 per day. Car is the most roughest car I have ever rented and very bad odor inside with beach sand all over the back seat. Never again--
Horrible experience they charge a higher price then what is estimated online. They also hit you with hidden fees and won’t return your deposits.
I KNEW the price I was quoted online was “too good to be true” and I read the many negative reviews online. Unfortunately, I went completely against my gut instincts and booked the rental car anyways. I was quoted at a very low price of $34 and when we arrived, it almost doubled to $73! I was obviously incredibly angry, which I voiced. I was told the online price was only an estimate which didn’t set well with me. They confirmed my rental car was only $6.50/ night, but their “taxes and fees” were another $39!! I totally wish I would’ve gone with a known and established car rental company, as they’re at least honest with their pricing. Unfortunately, we arrived very late (10:40pm) and we’re too exhausted from flying to figure out an alternative with no prior notice. YOU NEED TO MAKE THIS RIGHT OR I WILL GO ALL OUT IN BLASTING YOU VIA SOCIAL MEDIA!! Talking about extortion!! The car was clean, so you get 1 star
Rented a car for two weeks and the price was extremely affordable. That should have raised a red flag but I thought that perhaps due to the pandemic, the prices were lowered to attract more business. All of the taxes and surcharges the car rental agencies charge pretty much double the price of the car rental. Be prepared to pay between 75 - 90% more than the quoted price. Most of the employees at the Payless Care Rental in Carolina near the airport are pleasant with the exception of one. Do not go by the price of the additional day included in your contract if you need to extend the time you will need the car. As the less than stellar service rep repeatedly told me, Payless Car Rental reserves the right to charge up to $75 per day for additional days not included in the original contract. That is despite the fact that the original contract specifies how much an extra day costs and it most certainly does not state up to $75/day upfront. Unfortunately, a car is a necessity to get around the island so renting a car is a must. I will look for an alternative the next time I visit which is often.
I went to Payless in San Juan Puerto Rico . The guy who was there was so unprofessional and rude. Please look for other company to offer the right service. Terrible customer service plus they overcharged you.
I would give 0 stars if possible. The shuttle took 40 minutes to pick us up from the airport.When we got to the rental office, the pick up line was so long that it started outside the building. we had been waiting 2 hours for our car and there were still several people ahead of us waiting more than 3 hours, when I decided it was enough, so I decided to cancel the reservation. We were tired, hot, and starving. We had to cancel some of our activities in the island due to transportation.
Do not use Payless Economy Car Rentals in Carolina, PR! After returning the vehicle yesterday, 08/07/2021 was over charged and did not receive my refund $$ of deposit, filed dispute w CC.
These people offer one price on their website and up charge $200+ the day of, regardless if you had a reservation or not. Every single fee changed the second we got there, very unprofessional and the wait was more than an hour and we were the only ones there.
They paid me pay for an extra coverage because they claimed that Expedia’s insurance did not cover it. They pushed me to call Expedia to get a refund yet when Expedia contacted them regarding the claim they denied it.Meaning I bought two “insurances”.Don’t fall for it!
Please be aware you will have to pay for their inhouse insurance, if you want to use you cards insurance you will need to show proof of insurance in writing. The cars I rented had a horrid smell, and the wait is absurd.
So not sure why the reviews are so bad. But my experience with this place was pretty smooth. Deposit for using a debit card is huge for a jeep rental I believe was $400 or more but if you have CC it doesnt matter. An employee take pics and even video evidence of the car before you get the keys and after you return the car. Both are forwarded to your email. Deposit was returned to me within 3-4 business days. And airport shuttle was provided for free, in a comfy AC mini bus. Overall smooth transaction and good service.P.s - if your insurance does not have full coverage like mine did not had; you will have to pay extra for their insurance. So the price might go slightly up.

Fair prices. Service was much quicker than Thrift next door to them who we rented from on our last trip and it was not the best.
Payless, where we paid more. This place ripped us off terribly. I booked a good deal via orbitz and when we went to pick up the car in person, they had some BS story about how the insurance I paid for isn’t available in Puerto Rico so they had to charge us a higher rate for insurance through them directly. I find it hard to believe that a reputable car rental website that covers multiple countries would offer insurance that isn’t available in the place we’re booking our trip. On top of that, the car I had chosen wasn’t available. We ended up getting a different car. Upon returning the car, they took so long that we almost missed our flight. They also charged us a ridiculous amount to refuel the car and took TWO ENTIRE WEEKS to return the deposit to my boyfriends card.
What they forget to mention in the price of the incidentals ... Crazy right ?????. Not fair what they do to the tourist!!!!!!
My experience renting the car was actually easy, and the employees who checked me in and out were great.A week afterwards however, I saw a $390 charge on my credit card with no explanation. After bouncing around on the phone for an hour, the lady at this particular (apparently private) Payless said that the charge was from traffic violations and fines, that they had no receipt, and to get in touch with the DMV. The DMV showed no record of any fines. I called Payless back to ask for a violation ID number- still believing at this point that I had somehow blindly made some sort of violation- and the same employee was rude and hung up on me. I think she said something to the effect of Im busy and this isnt my job.I called corporate Payless and they told me theyd get a copy of the receipt, and that it would take a while because this location is private. About 2 weeks later, I finally got a receipt that didnt include any violations, an admission that the violations were non existent, and a refund. I would have been stuck with this fraudulent bill if I didnt have time to jump through all these hoops.The charge for nearly $400 is nothing short of thievery. In hindsight, the employee hanging up on me and acting rude is even more jarring.
Come here if you want to get overcharges and waste a half a day of your vacation. I don’t understand. I thought the pint of a reservation was so you could get your car quick. We were here for over 3 hours. Pointless. Wasted a whole day
This place was awful. Somehow my $70 total 4 day car rental cost me $230 by the time I left. They don’t tell you until you arrive that you have to pay tolls every single day even if you go through ONE roll. They also didn’t tell me until I arrived that you must buy insurance if it’s under $10/day. Once all was said and done and was very unhappy, I went outside to wait for my car and not a person to be found. I had to ask the man twice inside to bring someone to get the car. Worst service. Nobody even cared I was there. Never renting from here again. Not worth the deceiving cheap rate. You won’t get one.

If I could give it a 0 star I would. I wasted half a day on the phone on trying to reach support. First my reservation was with dollar and they printed me a paper and told me to walk over to Payless for a vehicle. I get my car just fine make it back to my hotel. Next day I make it out to Fajardo I do my snorkeling trip and afterwards my car won’t start. I spend 1 hour trying to get through to customer service and 4 different phone numbers not one answered. This is a Saturday at noon. I had to call a local tow to get a jump. I end up paying $30 cash cause the tow won’t accept card. Make it back to my room to make a trip to old San Juan and get stranded again. This time about 9 pm. Payed again for another jump to just make it in time to get a different car. Once I’m there they say they can’t do anything about the charges I payed for the bad car they gave me. And to top it off the guy swapping out my vehicle decided to be rude with me as if it were my fault. I still haven’t been able to get ahold of a supervisor and it’s already going to be Wednesday. I don’t know whose to blame dollar, Payless or Expedia. And also if you book through Expedia expect to pay more. They tack on the taxes heavy.
I booked my car through American Express when I arrived the the price went way up. Then I was told I could not use my own issuance because I had a 2013 car at home. I called my insurance to talk to them and they didn’t want to talk to my issuance company. They also told my brother they would send information for the rental to his email and he never received it.
I had a reservation at 11pm (with a confirmation number) and they closed at 11 pm. I arrived late to the airport through getting bags and everything else, I called place and they were close. Spoke to a staff member she stated they NO car available with a car reservation. She said she couldn’t do NOTHING at all with my reservation that I had available, no manager on duty at the time. I had a tour really early in the am. It’s really disappointed how they couldn’t do anything about it. They don’t receive not 1 star, but without that star I wasn’t able to put a reason.
I reserved in expedia.com and when I went to Payless to get the car I paid around $40.00 more than expedia said. In general the customer service was excellent, car was nice and clean and I have no issues after returning the car.
Had a reservation and went to go pick up the car, just to find a group of people outside (who also had reservations) telling me the doors were locked and no one was answering the phone. Literally the place said open but all the lights were off and no one was inside
This place is a scam. They will try to double your price that you booked online, will reject your insurance, and not let you read the itemized receipt. It will take 2+ hours of waiting. The car will be dirty. Its not called Payless either, you will be redirected to another car rental place. This place and all its employees are garbage. Go to enterprise.
They will try to rip you off-be careful. They are a franchise of payless so they dont follow Payless rules. They will automatically add on about another $52 to what you have already paid or your estimated payment

Warning: Do NOT rent from them! They charged me over $2,000.00 for a KIA!! Same car was at least $700 less at Alamo! I returned the vehicle less than 24 hours later and they charged me about $285 for less than a day with a basic KIA! And i’m still waiting for my $1700 to be refunded and $200 deposit. Nightmare experience with them in PR!

Ridiculous wait time to retrieve car. The process of getting the vehicle was also another wait. Vehicle was cleaned in a hurry and wasnt done properly. I wouldve waited another 10 minutes for the car to be cleaned properly. The shuttle to and from the airport was slow in arriving (10-15 minutes turnaround) and took 30-40 minutes.

DONT RENT FROM THIS PLACE!..1. We had to wait about 30 minutes in the morning to be picked up and brought over to their office OUTSIDE the airport..2. Like many other reviews, they charged all the fees that werent in our original estimate and our total turned out to be twice as much as what we got as an estimate.($100 to $200).3. In the end, it would have cost the same amount if we rented inside the airport. We would probably have gotten better car and not go through all the trouble.
I used the Southwest App to book my car rental 2/15-2/18 at Payless. We arrived in Puerto Rico on 2/10 but rates were so high through Valentine’s Day, we just walked and used Uber. The 3 days rental were supposed to be $52.64 at $17/day plus taxes.Upon arrival at Payless (by the way - their airport shuttle has NO mention of any rental agency - only a big white van with the sun ☀️)I arrived and one person was sitting outside waiting. The sign on the door indicated to wait to register. I sat down. Another woman showed up and stood by the door. The Payless employee, getting cars ready for the renters walked by us several times. Then another couple walked up and sat down. When the Payless employee went to let the next person in, the woman who came after me walked in. I had tried to get the first woman’s attention to let her go before me, but I guess her boyfriend was inside already. I went to get my temperature read and the employee stopped me. I told him I was there before the woman he let in. He said I had to wait AGAIN. I stood at the door, then that damn employee has the nerve to go to the couple that came AFTER me, and was going to let the man inside! I told him I was there first! Employee asked if I had a reservation and I said yes! All this poor treatment was followed by another wait inside.I had my VISA and ID and reservation number, when the Payless woman behind the counter tells me the “Puerto Rico price” I was in PR when I booked the car!! It was going to be over $75 for the 3 days. VERY deceiving. I’m going to notify SWA about this cheating company.I walked out. Never again Payless! You suck.

DONT !!!!The car was good BUT totally a scam. They said on priceline it was 60 dollars for my 3 days when I got there it turned into 110 with a 200 dollar deposit on my card. I was promised the 200 back well they charged us for things like the transportation bus and taxes a bunch of things we should of been charged at the beginning so they took more then half my 200 dollar hold. I will be disputing this transaction because I did not get what I initially paid they robbed me. Everyone both times I was there was arguing about the same things.
We were late getting to Payless Car Rental due to delay at airport. We called to inform them wed be late. We had to wait outside in the rain for another half hour to be waited on at Payless. Only to find out that they gave our car to someone else because we were late!!! They did not have another vehicle for us to rent. We had to take the shuttle back to the airport and scramble to find another car rental facility.
We got a car in San Juan Bay Marina, on the parkinglot next to the Marina.Easy access as we stayed in the Marina, friendly stuff, the car was nearly brand new.
As of today Nov 28th 2020, worst experience with this rental. It used to be good. Be aware. No sign on Van Pick Up, she want to read all your policy before she will rent you.
Took 3 hours to get the car which was still dirty and we had to call an Uber cause we waited an hour waiting for shuttle to go back to the airport. If we never called the Uber we would probably miss our flight. I will never rent with them again.
Great deals but the agent was rude when I asked questions and asked her for an upgrade which I thought was awkward since I added coverage to the vehicle too. I took the small car and it was great for the narrow streets in PR. The other workers were plenty nice when they delivered the car and upon return.
I wish I could give this Payless Car Rental NO STARS! DO NOT RENT HERE!! This place is HORRIBLE. Prices online are Not as advertised. They add Multiple HIDDEN FEES and charge 5 dollars per day for tolls even if youre not using tolls on a daily basis. On top of it all, the toll charges wont cover the Theodore Moscoso Bridge (main long large bridge with flags that you HAVE to cross at some point and another to travel south! The bridge is a separate charge of $10 each way. Overall the hidden fees were well over $145 dollars. They do anything they can to take an advantage of people. Even if it is more than offered online, I will forever go with a rental car agency in the airport. NEVER AGAIN will I use this agency! They raise prices on mainland Americans and raise the prices even higher for people in the US Military because it is a sure payday. This was told to me by an agent working there! ITS A DISGRACE!!

They had no details on our rental process about forcing us to rent the car for a minimum of 5 days and basic insurance that doesnt include your own. VERY MISLEADING PURCHASE. VERY MISPLEASED... NEVER TOLD US ABOUT A HOLD On the bank EITHER.... WILL NEVER PURCHASE AGAIN AND I WILL TELL EVERYONE ABOUT YOU.

I had a great experience with Payless - I got a new small SUV with less than 2,000 miles on it, the check-in was quick, and the people were great! I had a very low-priced reservation from Priceline that I was skeptical they would meet based on the reviews here, and they did add an 11% tax that wasnt on the original estimate, but it was still a fantastic deal.As a bonus, my son loved chasing the chicken around the little waiting area. This place is great.
Never in your life rent a car from this company or location, customer service is the worst, cars smell inside and the staff is very disrespectful. Never again.
This place has the worst customer service ever!! The price I booked tripled when I arrived because of their strict insurance requirements. I provided proof of insurance but I need to provide the binder with the coverages that I did not have nor could not get at 11PM. They were very cocky and when I returned the car at 0500 they weren’t open and the lady inside working the counter acted as if she couldn’t see me outside trying to get her attention and when I did her attitude was horrible along with the driver who took me to the airport!! I also got charged a $200 deposit twice and can’t get a human on the phone at this location to discuss this with. I highly recommend you go elsewhere for a better less stressful experience!! I will never patronize this business ever again!!
Service can improve, I was sent a text message bcus my car rental was late, I called the number the text message told me to call to extend my reservation and no one ever picked up the phone.
Poor business ethics. I booked a car online through their official website and got quoted a very good price, I booked it immediately. 2 weeks later when I got to the airport it took a few minutes but figured out where the shuttle stop was. They do not operate from the airport with most other companies. The shuttle driver was nice and it was just a few minutes drive but in a dump. When I got to the desk and gave them my reservation he quoted me a price that was 40% higher. I showed him my confirmation with the price and he showed me a page on their website that wrote in tiny letters on the bottom that the price was an estimate. That is no estimate, not even a guess. He then went on to say that this location is a franchise and he does not need to honor the websites rates and he could charge whatever he wanted. As I did not want to waste more time and go back to the airport to find a different company I ended up renting from there. Even with their BS pricing I still paid a few bucks less than the next to cheapest and while I wisely opted in, they did not force me to take the toles package. Still I have no respect for these bait and switch companies and next time will pay more and rent from a reputable company that does not lie about pricing. They will not honor any advertised price online. Plus you save over an hour by renting from a company located directly at the airport.
The staff are very professional and friendly. There was no pressure for additional services. The rates are very competitive, perhaps the lowest. They were very courteous and helpful from beginning to end. The chickens and roosters casually minding about their business were the finishing touch! 😉 I was very pleased with all aspects of my rental and would definitely rent from them again!
This was the worse service ever. When we picked up our car everyone was definitely at a much slower speed than everyone else. The gal at check in continued to fix her hair after every key stroke. There was a gentleman clearly upset that there was no way to print a receipt out. Finally they gave us the car and we were on our way. Our family recommended to return the car the night before it was due just in case we encounter the same service. I decided to not take my chances and we returned it. Same gal from check in stated that only the gentlemen outside could assist and once more we were back to just waiting. Closer to 20 mins later we were informed that the receipt could only be printed inside. Mind you nobody thought it would be a good idea to acknowledge us say hi, we will be right with you and or my name is. And most definitely not even a thank you or have a good day.In other words..... this whole situation was AWFUL and hope someone can address
SCAM!! Don’t do it. They have a fine print saying if your rental isn’t above $10 then they charge you this BS tax. Not worth the headache. People like this ruin the beauty of the island. Thanks corruption.
I would not recommend this, they charge my card double deposit customer was not good, cars ran good just not cleaned properly
Car rental experience went great with Payless! We were hesitant at first because of the negative reviews we were reading about the company and spent days trying to find another cheap rental agency to go with. We gave in since Payless had the cheapest offer.We had reserved a compact vehicle but they did not have any available so they gave us a small SUV (Hyundai Kona) for the same rate. The car was new, comfortable, and ran great! The vehicle checkout process was easy and fast and so was the return. Would DEFINITELY rent from Payless again.

Terrible customer service and additional charges. Get an EZ Pass when you get the car. Otherwise youll pay a late add-on fee and will still be charged for the entirety (not remaining) contract.
Its a low cost rental place and it shows. The check-in process was painfully slow as they had multiple waiting periods, one to do the paperwork and one to get the car, from start to finish it took over an hour. This was over the new year holiday so that could account for some of the slowness. Weve had similar waits at other low cost rental in San Juan. I think the staff tries to be as fast as they can but they were understaffed. Not the worst place to rent a car, but there is definitely room for improvement.
I got to SJU at 6:30pm with my family and kids (group of 8ppl) When i arrived i called the company to ask them for the shuttle bus because it was not passing by and i was waiting for about 30 min. I told them i have a reservation for two cars and the representative told me that there ware no cars available. I asked her why no one called or emailed me to advice me of this and she say they dont do that. Terrible customer service. I will NEVER make a reservation with this car rental again.
Was not happy. Car was dirty. They added up charges that were not listed on the website
I got a rental from here, car was great but service is horrible! They take forever to pick you up at the airport and to drop off as well! And they are not taking COVID-19 serious because when they pick you up or drop off at the airport there’s people with no mask on and we are not 6feet away! People without mast shouldn’t be allowed in the truck. I am really disappointed.
We made a reservation by phone. Even got the reservation number and they assured us the car would be ready the agreed date/time. The day of the trip, there was no car available, regardless of the reservation. There was no reason for the situation. They just said there was no car available.Totally not acceptable!!
