Great place to live and I definitely understand the concerns about trash. Most people blame the property but I blame the people who litter. If you’re an adult who constantly decides to litter in and around your own home, I am praying that you do better. It makes everybody else uncomfortable when you don’t have the decency to simply throw away the trash. The staff is friendly in my experience and the cost of living is affordable. The thing is l, cheap housing doesn’t have to be bad, it’s the people who fill the homes.
I must say seeing the reviews I was a bit sceptic about this place for my sister who is attending UAB. I pulled in and saw the buildings and thought “Oh these look nice”. I go in the office and a guy greeted me very politely I believe I’m spelling this correctly Quentin. Quentin was very knowledgeable of the area. I must commend him on his customer service. I believe his supervisor was in the office, she was very nice as well. They had an intense situation going on before I was helped but the handled it like pros. I sat down and went over pricing and availability and it was exactly what I needed. I told them I had two other appointments but the tour and the great hospitality had secretly sold me. Long story short my little sister moves in at the beginning of August. Thanks Alden!
Inexpensive place to live, but at what cost?My main issue lies with the process that The Alden uses to process work orders and their maintenance team.If you are currently leasing at the Alden or are looking at this as a future home, please read. First, please document every work order and make sure you take pictures of the issue. Especially if it is a water leak, malfunctioning AC, etc. The Alden claims that they need to be given 30 days to fix any maintenance requests. However, if they fail to fix your issue, the contract says you can break your lease by providing a 14 written notice. The Alden only then reached out to address our issue once we threatened to leave. They stated that any work order has a “30 day” period where the repair needs to be made in that window. But the Alden claims that the 30 days starts over at each maintenance request. Therefore, it is an endless loop of work orders and essentially is a POS system. This is not stated anywhere in the lease. There is no indication of a 30 day renewal after each work order is placed. We were also told that since the issue is at the end of the lease, we are not PRIORITY since they come in on July 31st to clean and fix the units. That is plain discrimination against a current tenant. They are only delaying the issue until another unlucky soul is stuck with the room. In all, please read your lease and document any and all issues. The office will only do what is in their best interest.
The Alden apartments are a great place to live. For students it’s a home away from home for a great price. I highly recommend.
The reason I’m giving it 3 stars is because of the cheap rent. Management isn’t bad either your request will be fast if you call the front office. There Is trash everywhere not the best neighborhood and outdated apartments. But for the price you can expect that. If you’re a broke student it’s not so bad. Beware knat infestation and most of the time pipes are slow to drain.
I love staying here at The Alden. It’s amazing and my apartment is cozy. Everyone here is friendly and really helpful . Great vibes awesome management and very pet friendly area. Highly recommend for anyone to come and stay you want regret it ❤️✨
Living there was great. The office staff were very helpful and friendly. Thank you.
The aldens is a very great place to live! Wit you being enrolled in college it is very affordable and they will work with you the whole time while trying to complete your move in date. Staff are kind and helpful. I highly recommend!
While certain aspects of the living experience are lacking, Quentin, Nivia and the rest of the office staff always provide superb service. They are the saving grace of this organization.
Great experience touring the property. I am very impressed and now considering renting!!
Living here is a great experience and the employees here provide great service.
It’s horrible conditions and I’ve been a resident for 4 months now and absolutely nothing has changed. Please don’t waste your money.
Moved here in august. Its super quiet at night. Neighbors are very nice. Office staff is very respectful as well. When i needed things fixed maintenance came in a timely fashion!
The Alden is really great for the price. I moved in during November, and I haven’t really had a problem with anything. The office staff is great and always tries to help with anything you might need
Be aware, a lot of these reviews are because of old management. The new management is amazing and the negative reviews don’t reflect how amazing they are now. Everyone I’ve dealt with has been amazing and working with my schedule and been so patient with me. I’ll update this review once I’ve lived here for longer. Give them a chance! You absolutely won’t regret it!
Great experience, quentin was a amazing help, great environment
The staff is pretty good. Came in for a tour and Fayth was a great tour guide. Seems to be a very pet friendly place to live lots of room for my dogs to roam around
My daughter and I came for a tour and while we had other options in mind for her. Our tour guide Fayth was very informative and polite. She made our decision of moving to The Alden easy.
The Alden is amazing me and my football friends love it here it’s really close to our practice field where we can walk for extra exercise! Nivia in the office is really helpful with making sure all my stuff was in order for me to have a good move in! highly recommend!!!
I recently went and toured and am very pleased. Kaila gave me a tour and was extremely helpful in explaining everything and making sure I was taken care of. Highly recommend!!
I love staying here the establishment is amazing and my apartment is amazing. Everyone here is friendly and really helpful . Great vibes awesome management and very pet friendly area. Highly recommend for anyone to come and stay you want regret it ❤️✨
I’ve had a great experience here so far. Staff is very friendly and very helpful. I love my apartment and the roommates I was matched with!
Moved here in a August to start school and my experience has been great and the staff is also very friendly!
I just moved in this August and The Alden is a great place to live if you want to live off campus. The staff is great if you need any maintenance they are on time and ready to listen, Makayla is very understanding and helpful in the office. They also have an option where you can request people you know as roommates just in case you need/ want that as an option.
Fair for the price. Gate doesn’t work and security is limited, but overall a decent experience
I just recently moved my daughter to this apartment complex. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. The apartment was clean, fresh paint and carpets through out, furniture had no issues. So far off to a great start.
The events are really fun to go to! Barbara helped me a lot during the move in process so that was great!
It’s fye or whatever, lil homey home. Be too lit no cap
I just recently moved in, and I am more than satisfied with my unit and the property! These reviews are from a previous management, but the new management has really stepped up their game. I’m excited to live here this year and see what the new management does here!
I enjoyed the tour and seeing the facilities!!
The Alden is a great place to call home! They are always creating a positive atmosphere by hosting events and doing giveaways!
Makayla was very helpful. She was so kind and friendly. She definitely made the experience that much better.
I love living here. The staff always work hard to make sure the tenants have what they need.
Ive been here on countless occasions visiting and contemplating moving into this complex. This possibility is only owed to the competency of a young man named Chris. During my last visit he sat me down and throughly explained as well as outlined the benefits of moving in here. I sincerely appreciate his patience, willingness to take the time to understand my questions, and provide answers. Hands down one of the best representatives of an establishment Ive ever come across and I look forward to moving in the upcoming semester.
My opinion of the Alden has changed drastically since I moved in. They show you a really nice model that ends up looking nothing like your apartment. There are so many cracks in my wall, dirty carpet from when I moved in, peeling walls, the list goes on. The repairs were so bad that the manager at the time told my roommate that it would be best for us to move to another building, after having lived in our unit for over a month or so. Every time that I had a maintenance request it would take forever. The longest was July to October for simple fixes. For my first few months I would always get a notification of owing them money when I had already paid my rent. The dues were ranging from $2-200.I have a dog and he used to run in the tennis court to get exercised but they closed it so now there is absolutely no amenities for pets. Most annoyingly, I paid my rent on time this month and my check has still not been deposited and our next rent is almost due. Every time I call it’s a different update or excuse. They advertise for 24/7 gym and computer/printing services....barely anyone has an access card for after hours. Our hot water is always iffy. Great chance you’ll wake up to a cold shower. Not only cold water, but maybe no water.Almost everyone you talk to here wants to move out ASAP.The people in the office are extremely nice and friendly. Almost every time it’s a problem it’s bigger than the people at the office. It’s management. They are all super helpful and cool people. They always come up with awesome ideas that get the community engaged and all the events I’ve gone to have been really fun.Now that management has changed I can say they blow you off and are rude!!We had multiple problems with our water heater and gave maintenance multiple opportunities to come out and repair and I got to the point where we wake up in the morning and literally cannot take a shower because of how cold it is and I know my roommates were using wipes. That makes absolutely no sense the last time I went to the office about it one of the people from management was extremely disrespectful and completely blew me off and acted like it was not a problem that on multiple occasions we don’t have hot water. I literally number my days to get out of the Alden.
Makayla was amazing with my tour she answered all my questions and made me feel super comfortable with the Alden. She has a very vibrant and sweet personality . Wonderful spirit and amazing professionalism showed by her .Cant wait time see you guys soon ❤️❤️
Had a great move in process. Barbara, Kaila, and the rest of the staff was very helpful!!
I moved here in August 2019 when it was under campus advantage and it sucked, but after they changed management I could tell a difference immediately. Maintenance has now been on top of all of my work orders, and I actually enjoy living here now. The leasing team is also really nice and helpful whenever I have an issue.
The Alden is an great resourceful place to stay for college students great locations great pricing and great environment
I think the Alden is a great and upcoming place to stay!!!❤️❤️❤️ Awesome and thanks to a very helpful team member Barbra
They’re always giving back to residents, cool place to stay👍🏾
Great place to meet new people! The staff is helpful when needed.
It use to be called University Heights. At first its low cost, outward appearance, and place appears nice but there are bad things that happen. As a positive, the staff is very nice and active. On the negative some of the residence do have marijuana (weed) and party a lot on weekends and sometimes random weekdays. So in short it is a low cost and nice staff place that attracts you but be warned of residents and marijuana smells.
The Alden is very quiet and peaceful. The residents are nice and the staff is very helpful
Stay away from this place - management is never around and some of the staff are clueless. Trash everywhere and security non existent. Do not allow your daughter to live here. Find another place
The leasing staff and management staff were extremely helpful to find the right apartment and the most compatible roommates. Ebony, Nivia, Makayla, and Kaila were all wonderful!
I love staying here the staff is very understanding and the apartments are reasonable
The office staff are nice but the apartment continuously has knats and I have done everything I know how to get rid of them and called the office and asked for pests control and then they canceled the maintenance request about a week later and I still have the knats.
I have been living here since the end of last year and the staff has been nothing but amazing towards me. Specifically Sydney and Nivea who I have grown to love so much due to them treating me (a resident) as a real friend and for once, I’m in an apartment complex that I feel the company really values my business and time, which is RARE.Every maintenance issue has always been resolved very quickly with no problems, and the communication is SO on point that I get “Hey Bobby!” every single time I call the clubhouse which is super welcoming to me and just makes me feel even more at home here.Especially because of how much a simple action like that helps during times of crisis like right now, which the complex has also done a wonderful job in taking precautionary measures to keep all residents and staff safe too. Which is VITAL and I love to see it!The staff really cares about its residents and for the price, you cannot beat the amenities and what The Alden has to offer versus the much more expensive competition that charges you unnecessary fees and taxes (which The Alden does not).Think about really making this place your home! Especially if you’re a student. I’ve loved my time living here and I’m so happy that I renewed my lease 🖤They got 5 stars from me all the way! 🥰
I moved in yesterday and the staff was so helpful and nice! My apartment looked great!
It’s decent as a start off apartment for college students. The staff is respectful the maintenance can be slightly better, as our air goes out frequently. No rats roaches or anything of that nature.
I made my place special by decorating it and bringing things from home that I liked.
I’ve been at this place multiple times visiting and and in the past couple weeks I have been considering moving here once my lease is up. I would refer some of my peers here just because of the nice staff and the affordable price of living. Also it comes furnished.
Just moved in and loving it so far!! Staff is very friendly and helpful :)
My experience here has been excellent!!!
I love it here it’s the best
The Alden is unsafe. They do not care about the residents. One time they cut out water off for 2 whole days. They had no sense of urgency about fixing the problem when it occurred. They said it had nothing to do with them that it was the water company’s fault. My thing is as an apartment complex shouldn’t you guys work together with the water company to get the problem fixed. If you go in there website you will see them advertising how the Alden is under new management. That’s great and all but they’ve switched management like 3 times while I’ve lived here and all 3 have been horrible. The current management seems horrible to me also. Please don’t move here.
The Alden is a great place to stay for the price and the community. Ariel has been doing an amazing job since she has been here. I have seen more improvements over the past 6 months than I have in years. If something is needed I would recommend speaking with Ariel for anything you need.
Do y’all do credit checks? and how much is it for 3 bedroom
When looking for an apartment for my granddaughter who is attending college in Birmingham, we looked at several complexes and were not pleased with the locations, amenities, etc. We finally looked at the Alden apartments and were very pleased and rented with them. Her experience has been wonderful.
The apartments are really nice & clean with a pool and workout area to top it off. The tour was also on par thanks to Makayla with her eagerness to answer any question I had. Great place to start your college housing experience.
I totally love the Alden! They are soooo welcoming! Anytime I have a problem they are quick to assist and make me feel like this is where I need to be. I totally love Ariel in the office ! She is so welcoming and down to earth! She is definitely in the right field of work !!! She always remembers who I am and engages in genuine conversation with me each time! You Rock Alden !!!!
The Alden has been nothing but good to me so far. Clean apartments.. awesome staff.. any issues I’ve had, staff was on it immediately. Great place to live..
The Alden is a great place to live if you are a student. It is really close to all the schools around Birmingham. Nivia the leasing agent that always works is super nice and very helpful towards me
Great staff wonderful people
I enjoy myself every time I come stay. Laid up in that comfortable bed you all provide is just wonderful. When i’m not laid up I take my talents to the kitchen where I am forever grateful that all the stovetops and the oven work. Then I open the sliding door, pull up a chair, sip on my coffee, and continue to enjoy my time at The Alden.
I just moved in and i just wanted to say they went above and beyond to help me. Ariel worked hard to find the perfect room for me and made sure i was comfortable. She is always so nice and makes sure to take care of me when i come in. I love how she remembers all of the residents names. Perisha has also worked with me and i appreciate them!
Ariel is a people’s person which gives the company a great experience to be able to communicate an understand residents with bright ideas to make their lively hood more comfortable especially ones from out of town. She makes it feel like home
Thread on twitter of it being top 5 worst complexes to live at and list of complaints on Facebook. To be honest if you value your life dont live here.
This place is a living hell !!! Please do not move here. I have had problems ever since I moved here. The management do not care at all. I wish I could go back and pick somewhere to live. I hate it here. DO NOT MOVE HERE.
Worst apartment in Bham. Management change every other month. Threats from new managers who seem racist are becoming unbearable. Dont stay here. Mold grows from water damage on roof and all they do is repaint over it. Have photos and videos to prove. All reviews from 3weeks ago seem like Chris or his crew might have written them. Nothing has changed in terms of fixing problems all they do is recycle old materials into other buildings.
Very nice apartment complex and friendly staff. I worked with Makayla she made the process smooth I look forward to moving in!
My tour here was great. Makayla was very insightful and nice. The staff in the office is very helpful.
Worst place for students to live in Huntsville. Poor management who make commitments they can not live up to...please stay away.
I had an amazing experience today at The Alden. Jonathan Watson-Smith was very helpful and polite with assisting me in getting a copy of my lease. Jonathan went above and beyond and made the impossible possible. Kudos to such an amazing customer service experience with Jonathan today. Thanks again.
You have to be desperate to live here. Its the only reason I do.
Great staff and nice apartments.
This is a beautiful property with great service and really nice apartments. Ive visited a few times and I really enjoyed it.
I’ve seen many improvements in the past few months living here at The Alden. A big thanks to Ariel from the office! She handles everything in a timely manner and is so kind about doing so. 5 1/2 stars for her.
Great staff. Great amenities. MaKayla always gives excellent customer service.
The Alden is a great place and they staff take really good care of us making sure everything is well set. Ms. Nivia made is a great staff member she made sure my leasing was good and made it very easy for me to move in
The special social events this cool apartment complex puts on for its residents always is fun ! Free wings today and a friendly staff that try to be helpful. Ariel manager has done it again !
I lived here for a summer 14 years ago, and this place hasn’t changed a bit! I was randomly assigned to a guy who was running a stolen tire business. I’d come home after work, sit on the couch, and all of a sudden the door pops open and here’s Byron and Bo, rolling tires through our living room and stacking them on the back balcony. There were so many tires back there you couldn’t even see the trees!I regularly heard gunshots and smelled weed everywhere. There was a 3 week period when a random guy who seemed to be squatting in our apartment (James) brought about 10 of his family members to live with us. I would come home from work and the door would be wide open and the refrigerator was wide open and the A/C cranked down to 60 degrees. One time when I heard gunshots, I couldn’t even lock the door since some of James’ family was still outside, and one of them ran inside and yelled, “Mane! Mane! That man made sure he got the JOB done dog!” There was also this random squatter named the letter “O” and we all thought “O” was a guy until one day James passes me in the kitchen and he says, “Hey man! Hey! O ain’t a dude!!”Four years after I moved out, I was getting physical therapy on my shoulder, and the therapist told me he used to date a girl that lived in Collegiate Hall (what The Alden was called two names ago). Then he said, “Come to think of it, I got a great deal on a new set of tires from this guy who lived across from her!”This place taught me the valuable life lesson that when a place is cheap rent, it’s cheap for a reason. This place is a world class dump!! It was basically like living in a real world version of The Wire, but less murdery.
Every time after I pay the rent, they still send many email urged me to pay the money, and office always dont provide a receipt but asking households with receipt to find them, I have run for four times but my bill is still free, so there is always email in harassed me, two months later they still didnt get things resolved. Office is like not working at all, with all sorts of incredible problems. And they make all kinds of mistakes. If you want to stay, remember to check the price of the rent.
Updated review:I previously had a bad experience living at the Alden. The unit I received needed to be updated. There were some issues with pest control. Management was changed when I moved out and in the confusion, I was charged for damages to the room. The new manager was able to correct the wrong charges and they are updating some of the older units. The new manager is very reasonable and was able to work with me to fix these issues.
The alden is a great place! the new management is really helping make it great again. Also the new leasing agents are really helpful compared to previous one. Nivia was really helpful and really helped give confidence in living at the Alden. I would highly recommend giving the alden a chance.
Makayla is always helpful when I come into the office and she makes all of our interactions smooth and easy!
They asked us to write a review! Do not live here! DO NOT LIVE HERE! DO NOT LIVE HERE! The management is rude and disgusting, that is when you get a chance to talk to them! The manager is never in her office! Dont believe me? Call and ask to speak with a manager, the first response is She is not in, is there something I can help you with. They then proceed to not help you and take down your name and number.
The Alden is a great apartment complex for college student around brimingham. The amminities make living here worth it. Also nivia is an great office assistant. Ask for her when you are leasing she make the process easy and fun.
The Alden is a cool, affordable, and convenient, place for students. Alexus always gives off a positive vibe and Ariel is helpful too. Renovations wouldn’t hurt The Alden, but that doesn’t take away from the helpfulness of the staff.
The alden is great they take care of us & work well with BSA, thanks to Nivia for making our leasing process a breeze for me and my parents and the community is awesome as well.
My experience here has been wonderful. The staff here has been helpful with anything that I needed. The maintenance was never a problem if I needed something fixed it was fixed in an appropriate amount of time. Overall it has been excellent.
My stay here was by far the worst living experience Ive ever had to endure. There is a huge discrepancy with what is advertised and what you will actually encounter once you sign your lease, because oddly with this company you can only see your living quarters after you have done so. The staff in the office was cordial at best, and the leasing manager at that time was by far the most obsolete and ignorant manager Ive ever encountered in a housing environment. They changed the billing policy more than halfway through my lease and made me and MANY others liable for the late fees that resulted. The unit I was moved into was filthy. Among other things The walls were caked with dirt, the tub had more stains than remaining tiles, and every aspect of the kitchen made you lose your appetite on site. The living room area was just a lost cause. There were burn marks everywhere, chunks of missing carpet, holes in the walls, wires dangling where a smoke alarm may have existed years prior, and just the worse kind of furniture a place you pay $400+ for rent monthly could find and say Here, this is yours, enjoy. Its a very sad excuse for an apartment complex that collects over $1200 in rent collectively from the 3 different rooms within one unit . Once confronted with this the only alternative option offered to me by management ( which changes so often there is no sense of continuity with anything that your are promised) was to move to another unit, which was in no way better than the one I was already in. I literally loathed the place so bad that I moved out 6 months before my lease was up and continued to pay on it because I simply couldnt stomach it. If youre going to consider staying here before you sign your lease simply ask if you can see the unit theyre planning on tossing you in. I can guarantee you wont be allowed to ( For whatever bogus reason they can come up with at that time). That should tell you everything you want to know about the Heights. The only bonus here is the convenience of being able to walk to the parties there, just know youre going need a strong stomach and a remarkable tendency to look the other way in order to make it on the day to day.
My experience at adlen was not good with roommate running up the power bill nothing was done about it. I told that he was leaving the glass door open and was leaving the front door open all the time we had our heat set on 75 to set to where it goes on and off and it down to 65 every morning, so I woke up cold every morning because of it. I also had mail sent to my address for someone that doesnt have an address and someone in the leasing office signed for the package when UPS delivered it and then kept the persons package and lied to me when I asked if her package had came in yet. They actually lied to me a total of 3 times about it.
Move in day was very hectic and could have been done better. Then my apartment was absolutely NOT in a livable condition. My family spent all day cleaning and finally left at 10 back to mobile and arrived back home at 2. Although we had a move in day from hell... Since moving in I have really have enjoyed living here. The neighbors are very nice, everything is very safe. And we have made this apartment our little home. I mean sure there are some down sides, like the gnats and roaches roaming the streets, but we like it here.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, avoid this place if you can. They changed their name to The Alden it was called University Heights so look up University Heights, nothing has changed. This place is unorganized to the tea. Which is probably why they changed managements multiple times, and yet they are still unorganized. If you choose to live here make sure you have documentation of everything. I lived there for 2 years and looking back and seeing people that I told not to live there. They are calling me telling me that I was right. Please avoid this place at all cost. Dont say I didnt warn you.
Its not worth the money. People mind their business though, the office staff is nice from what Ive seen, and maintenance gets their job done. All in All its not TERRIBLE. Yet its not worth the hassle of being contractually obligated to live here for a year.
I live in the Alden it’s okay they just need to be better on responded to request on time and getting things fixed in these apartment
THE ABSOLUTE WORST PLACE IVE EVER SEEN!! After paying my daughters deposit and receiving the key, we, along with her roommates and their families, went to view the apartment. Words cannot explain what we found! I will just say that judging from this one apt, the entire complex needs to be leveled and rebuilt from the ground up or at least condemned!! If not that, the entire staff needs to be fired. The Corporation that owns them needs to be shut down also. WHY AM I FORCED TO GIVE THEM ONE STAR???!!!!
