Its an old building so it has its issues. At one point I got trapped in an elevator for a half hour, and my shower didnt work for a little while so I could only take cold showers. My windows dont open well which isnt great because every time I use my oven it sets off the alarm unless I put plastic over the smoke alarm. That being said, when I sent in a work order they were always very quick to help me or fix whatever wasnt working well.pretty nice building overall. nice gym, nice laundry area, just a comfortable building. super convenient location.

I havent moved in yet and wishing I had not signed a lease. Multiple apartment changes and move in dates. Original representative left and customer service has dramatically decreased. Talking to a real estate lawyer on Monday.Update: I talked to the management office (Chris) and everything has been straightened out. We moved in last Saturday and move-in went smoothly. Leasing consultant Kristie is great and helped with a seamless process. Looking forward to having a wonderful year here.Update: I love living here. Im close to everything I need and its only a short drive to school and big box stores. The dog park is a plus for my fur baby. Renewed my lease for another year!

My partner and I just moved into the Marylander. She got a new job with an immediate start date, so we had to pick up everything in California and move to Baltimore with almost no warning. To say that is a chaotic experience would be an understatement. We arrived in Baltimore with no place to live and very little knowledge about the area. After many hours of internet searches and speaking to locals online, we chose the Marylander as our future home. The apartments are very nice and the lobby is gorgeous. There is an extensive fitness room, a study room, a social room with a pool table and ping pong table, a game room, a package room, and a very large laundry room with the option for use of a cleaners. All of that is great, but the real gem of this complex is Jennifer Snow. I cannot begin to tell you how much we appreciate everything she did for us. She got us the exact apartment we wanted with all the features we needed, but beyond that she understood we were on a time crunch. She didn’t say this, but I’m pretty sure she skipped/delayed her lunch to get everything submitted in time for us to move in the same day we got all our documents to her. There was an IT issue and everything, but she didn’t give up. She took a personal interest in us and worked some kind of magic. Most people would give you the runaround or make you wait days for somebody else to fix the issue or find a solution, but not Jennifer. She made us feel like a priority and walked us through every step of the way. It was an incredible experience. I highly recommend this apartment if only for the staff that work here. Everybody from maintenance to office worker has been polite, kind and happy. Thank you so much. Also, shout out to Gabby who, too, was an amazing help during this insane process.

We had a misunderstanding with someone who works in or runs the Marylander about throwing one reasonably small item in the dumpster (next to the building) after working on a project outside. We resolved it (by not putting anything in the dumpster at all), but one particular thing upset me enough to post here. The gentleman at one point threatened to call the cops if he saw us again, which I thought was a totally unnecessary thing to say given the context and calmness of the discussion. My friend and I who were there and our friend at the Marylander (not present at the time, hence the issue) are all Hopkins PhD students, not career criminals or anything remotely close.I was quite disturbed that someone would say such a thing (especially after all the recent incidents in 2020). We all need to reconsider the role of the police and work on solving our everyday trivial issues without the threat of escalation to law enforcement.Ive always considered moving to the Marylander when lease renewal approaches (the location is pretty good, short walk to class), but such experiences can really alter your opinion of a place.

Water shutoff is your nightmare at Marylander Apartment. First they have monthly scheduled water shutoff, which is ok at least you can prepare for it. However they also have unexpected water shutoff for you like today, when you woke up only to find water is off and now 4:47pm still no water in the apartment during this pandemic. If you are ok with old facilities, no venting in bathroom and falling paint on celling, you are welcome.

From someone coming from out of state, I really like this apartment building! There’s loads of fantastic amenities that’s available at all times, it’s in a great location, the neighborhood is fantastic, there’s shops and entertainment within 1 minutes walk, the one bedroom that I live in is VERY spacious, there’s multiple different parking options, it’s next by to several bus lines (Silver, Red, 22, 51, 95, etc.), the staff is really helpful. All in all, its been amazing living here.

Reasonably priced, accommodating, and a good staff. Most tenants seem to be students or have something to do with the Hopkins campus or nearby hospital, and as a student, this is probably the most well-priced place to live. The rooms are decently sized and well-kept, and in my experience so far we havent any maintenance issues. The staff and managers have been really kind and accommodating, from quick pest control (no problems since) to being very helpful and patient with a lockout. Its not the most perfect place, and for the price you shouldnt expect it to be, but for that same reason it is also one of the better deals in terms of overall space and service.

I sent a detailed email regarding all the issues that I went through- very old building with frequent water shutdowns that required me to book a hotel for a late night stay at some point, no communications regarding multiple false fire alarms, disappearance of personal items during maintenance in my absence- to name a few.No one seemed to bother from the management. I even called Morgan Properties to provide feedback and no one called me back! Unfortunately, I see no real efforts for improvement. The only thing that I actually liked was the location. Also in reality doesn’t look as nice as the photos- In summary, not worth what you will be paying for.

While the location and the price are great, my experience living here has been very uncomfortable and troublesome. I have been in this unit less than 6 months at the time of this review, but there have already been more than ten water shut offs. It feels like there is one every week (many of them emergency shut offs) and it has really interfered with my schedule. At one point I accidentally ingested some of the water during a water shut off (I missed the email) and inquired via email if I should be worried/seek medical attention, but I have yet to hear a reply, weeks out.I am not one to write reviews on any platform, but I have had such a bad experience here that I was compelled to put this down. For the same price, there are far better options around Hopkins - I do not recommend staying here, at least until these issues are fixed.

If there is an advice I should give to anyone, I would say that this building is the worst ever, the leasing office is not professional at all, and treats everyone as foreigners, the floor carpets are stained and stinky. Their events are so cheap. the washing machines keeps breaking and taking your money but no reimbursement at all.maintenance requests are another story, an overflowing sink is not an emergency on a Saturday morning, and it can be taken care off on Monday ( an African-American rep in the leasing office ).On top of everything there is no security whatsoever, if you have any jewelry item dont leave them in the apartment, because They will be stolen (as it did happen to me). They trick you when you first walk in for a tour by showing you places where they have recently renovated the carpets, but as soon as you sign the contract, you find out that place is not worth paying 1 penny.

Well, before you make a bad decision let me give you a heads up about Morgan Properties, specifically the Marylander, as I cannot speak on behalf of the other properties. At first, the Marylander seemed like the perfect place to settle down for a year or two upon moving to Baltimore. The location is great and close to so many attractions in the Baltimore area and a mere few short minutes from the harbor. The area is safe and right across from one of the Johns Hopkins campuses and next to a hospital if an emergency ever came up. Comforting, right? Not exactly. After moving into the property, things slowly became more apparent. Even after paying a ridiculously high expense on parking for two of our vehicles, we had to deal with broken elevators on a daily basis living on the seventh floor of the complex, and having gotten stuck in the elevator for nearly an hour on one occasion (what an experience dealing with the staff and elevator crew on that occasion). Bills were a different matter all on their own, as the amounts were incorrect on almost a routine basis. We had to deal with cockroaches in the laundry room as well.Even after deciding to move out early, we are still dealing with complications from the property nearly five months later. After sending in all of our closing costs and final move out expenses, we received notice from a collection agency stating that we still owed Morgan Properties money. A few weeks later, both Morgan Properties and the collection agency withdrew the final move out expenses from our accounts, causing us to pay double costs, after all of that. Just our luck, right? So as we continue to deal with this ongoing matter, make sure you investigate any property you consider moving into in the future. I am sure this property is great for some, but it was not for us.

All good reviewed are for 6-7 months ago, that they started putting flyers around apartment for more discounts and prize. So disappointing to see people that can lie for a little discount. This apartment is VERY bad. The only advantage they have is that they are close to Hopkins! They have horrible maintenance. Water gets turned off two or three times a month - they still charge you $18-$20 a month. Very Sticky and dirty hallways (very BAD Smells). It is always very bad smells around because of no ventilation in hallways. The elevators are so damaged and old and get broken many times a month. The gym is dirty (VERY) and laundry is very very crowded. Many times washers or dryers are broken. The emergency is very bad, I lost my keys and the emergency maintenance said they will charge $500 if you lost your key in out of business hours.Inside the apartments are very small, very old and the walls are thin. You easily can hear your neighbors conversation and TV sound. The apartment door is so old that one time I got stuck inside the home and couldnt get out (the emergency came 2 hours later and they were helpless, my friend got me out). There is no security, you have fab but the back door is always open and anybody can come inside and go. So many times I never used my fab because the door was always open. There are no security whats so ever.Trash get full fast and it becomes smelly and it will hard to even walk in the hallway.Heater control is central by the apartment. So you have no control over your heater in SUMMER. ITS ON !! 24/7. I have to cover it with something in summer to reduce its temperature. If you have a post that requires a signature! The leasing office wont accept it or they wont even call you. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET YOUR POST. you will end up going to post office.Worsely, False Fire Alarms happens ALL the TIMES. Like 10:00 pm or 12:00 am and you have to get out, stay in street for more than an hour, get inside again and because of crowdedness, it will take forever to get back to your apartment. This is the worse apartment ever. Please look more. If you are coming from another country, there are other good apartments around. This is not even worth living! They need to renovate the whole building and they need to learn to take care of things. This building is almost 80 years old with no renovation! Its is so damaged from inside and outside with so many plumbing issues. This is very disappointing that they are taking advantage of foreign & student people to just rent out their terrible apartments and never take care of it. Their monthly charges are way more than the worth of apartment. I am so sorry for people who lied here for some discounts or money offer. Look at old reviews here and other reviews. There is no happiness/peace in living here. This will never feel like home.

I have been at this apartment since 2007 just because its near my workplace. I have not seen much improvement since then other than a paint job a couple of months ago. I can easily tolerate the shortcomings of this property but to me a lack of disregard to my mail/packages is unacceptable. I am relieved to see that I am not alone on how I feel about this. Totally their is inefficiency in handling mails. They argue that along with the fine print that renters assume the risk of losing mails. Lets begin....upon signing my lease I was told on two separate occasions that the parking on the side of the building was free for residents. Come to find out, it was not, all thanks to having my car being towed by the terrible staff in the office. Learned my lesson was no longer parking on the side of the building. Then about six months later in the heat of July my air conditioner stopped working. I visited the leasing office for assistance the gentleman in the leasing office told me that he would happily put in a ticket for me to have maintenance come look at the unit. 48 hours go by in 90° weather and no one appears to take a look. I go down to the leasing office only to have that gentleman tell me that he forgot to put in that ticket and he would put one in now. All while making sure I was aware that someone would come to look at it within 48 hours. Upon explanation of the fact that my apartment was 105° I was concerned that this was something that needed to be handled sooner. I was assured by a few staff members that this was not an emergency, however, the kind maintenance gentleman felt bad for me and decided to come replace my window unit that second. In addition, I have had three cases of theft from the laundry room. One of which was the cover to my expensive couch that I can no longer use. The leasing office was very kind to me but was unable to help in any way shape or form. Lastly, the management company seems more concerned with updating the entrance and putting in a tiny mini golf platform that Ive never seen anyone use rather than spending the money to have important things fixed like our plumbing (which is off twice a month for maintenance) or the apartments themselves. I pay almost $900 for a 400 square-foot studio apartment that looks like it has been painted over 1000 times. The kitchen cabinets are basically painted shut the tub has been painted rather than just replacing these things they create a cheap fix.

I am completely surprised by the comments here. I have been a tenant for over six months (renewed a six month lease for another year) and find the front office staff to be even nicer now then when I moved in...and they were awfully helpful and kind then. I have never had a problem that wasnt attended to asap...within a day. And the maintenance staff are polite AND do a good fast job. There are several on onsite everyday! I have been a tenant in NY, SF, Boston, and Baltimore and to be honest, this is the best staff and building i have ever leased from. My only guess is that those complaining had isolated bad experiences...and there are too few other content customers commenting. Or they rented in places way better than those now living here might be able to afford. I have experienced some awful building managers/staff having grown up in NY and believe me the whole staff here (from the mail room to morning cleaning crew and beyond) are awesome. Once you move in management become so ineffective, unprofessional and often rude. I mean they seemed to be great before signing the lease and even shortly afterwards, I have to admit some of them are quite decent. But, 2 out of 3 times Id be be really frustrated or pissed off by them and oh, Ive NEVER GIVEN OUT BAD REVIEWS EVER BEFORE. So, Im not a demanding or grumpy customer/tenant to start with. Ive had multiple maintenance requests that werent handled even after six months and at some point I just became tired of begging them and dealing with their attitudes so I gave up. Trust me its not a light bulb or even plumbing issue. Those requests were about things you cannot fix yourself. The actual maintenance staff are quite courteous and efficient IF they ever get to your request. As for the old building and hence smelly carpet, slow and often not working elevators or lack of heating in the winter, I am actually ok with it. You get what you paid for and its a great location with relatively reasonable price. BUT the office staff is just unacceptable and its a pity that I am moving out solely because of that. If you ever decide to move in anyway, I strongly recommend that you check your unit comprehensively (try the window, the stove, the oven, the lock, the shower etc everything!) before signing the lease and have them fix anything that is not working properly BEFORE you move in. Because after that, youre pretty much on your own.

My review of this apartment complex is mostly focused on the resident housing faculty. I started living in the Marylander the summer of 2018, so I have lived here for approximately 6 months. The number of problems that came up (such as the numerous water shut offs, door not opening from the inside or outside, the ceiling LEAKING, the complex being just about 0% soundproof, and etc) were expected because I knew that this was an old apartment complex and was infamous for having numerous problems. While these problems may be excusable, the lack of professionalism and plain rudeness of the resident life office member are not. When I presented a problem that had come up, she immediately started accusing me of being an opportunist who was trying to embezzle money out of the Marylander. She then proceeded to deflect all responsibility from the apartment complex and put them all on me. I suggest potential residents to look into other apartment complexes nearby such as village lofts, varsity, and EVEN unione to avoid the atrocity that is Marylander.

To give those who wondering an idea of what this apartment is like:People here are mostly something to do with the campus i.e. students like me, so we are close to the homewood campus. Other than students there are people who work nearby such as the hospital.Heating is on during cold nights but sometimes we need ceramic heaters and such for heating to cover occasionally no heating (which is unlikely but definitely possible)I dont have a problem with pests as I never seen any pest other than a little moth few couple times a year. but I heard people having seen rats and cockroach( what I heard should be definitely true but that was heard in 2015 and I personally never saw any). So you better make sure your apart is clean and dump wastes frequently. And potentially pick an apartment on higher level ( I dont know if that helps but it shouldnt hurt). This place is probably not the best in the region but you still come across problems pretty much in anywhere nearby. So it probably will serve you well if you are a student or you are gonna stay here for a few couple years. Other than this Marylander, the best place is probably the newly built Nine East 33rd but at a slightly higher price. So if you need a close location to the campus this place is worth considering.Just make sure you inspect a lot and think carefully and check on facilities and stuff to see if there was anything wrong or flawed.

While I wasn’t home for the repairs maintenance allowed the crew to enter my apartment. When I returned home I discovered my Michele black deco diamond watch that retails at about 2k was missing. I went to the leasing office to report it but management wasn’t available. I contacted the police and filed a police report. I also contacted my insurance company. During this period the office has refused to assist in replacing the watch which I have pictures and the receipt to the watch. I asked to speak to someone in corporate and was only given a phone call from a guy named Michael who claims he hires good people and this doesn’t happen often. I’m a good person and I haven’t had anything stolen from my home before.Overpriced! Uncontrolled water and heat temp. Tight parking spaces in garage expect scratches on your car. No doorbell for guest to enter. Dog park has turned to mud. Thin walls to hear neighbors wild night and the trash goes in a hallway closet that smells. Washers and dryers hardly work. Management will also reach out you way before your lease ends to have you locked into longer term.

I lived in a Studio at the Marylander for 20 months. Id say the overall experience was positive (Id give it a 3.5 stars if I could). This is one of the most affordable apartment buildings in the two-block radius from Homewood campus (still overpriced, but so is every other one in this area), and you get what you pay for. Most of the cons are a result of this being an ancient building. A disclaimer: this is the first apartment building Ive lived in here in the US, so I dont really have any standards.Pros:- Staff is friendly, mostly helpful and at least one of them will know you by name.- Studios are spacious (at least mine was perfect for one or two people, but Ive seen others that werent so good).- You can get a good view (again, this depends on your unit).- Most shared areas are being renovated, with the gym getting new equipment and the social room being completely made over. Last year they opened a new study room, which is modern in decoration and useful for group studying sessions.- Community events are put together regularly.Cons:- The temperature situation in the room is quite bad, especially in the fall and spring. Theres a central heating system over which you dont have any control, so it fails to kick in if theres a particularly cold day in the fall, or it remains on during hot days early in the spring. Also, the radiator in my unit can be super noisy, which is a problem if youre a light sleeper (I had to get earplugs). You get an air conditioning unit, but its old and inefficient, resulting in a 4-fold increase in my energy bill if I leave it on every night during the summer.- Also in the sound department, the walls are paper thin. I can hear everything going on in the neighboring apartments (sometimes even normal conversation in the evening when its quiet outside).- Monthly water shut offs, which become more frequent late in the fall and early in the spring due to temperature fluctuation (not that big of a deal if you leave the apartment before 9 and comes back after 5, but extremely inconvenient if you dont have a routine).- Paintjob is sloppy, especially in the kitchen (I cant even close some of the kitchen cabinets because theyve been painted over so many times). Also, there might be residual lead in the paint (again, an artifact of this being an old building, but you still must sign a document stating that youre aware of this when you move in).

Awful place, terrible management, weird/rude security guards, inconsistent heating, roach problems in the hallways, bad-smelling hallways due to a lack of trash chutes. Dont live here. They make it look much nicer than it is online. Theres lots of hidden fees in your bill, too. You can find better living arrangements for less. The only nice thing about this place is the location.

As much as it pains me to write this, I cannot recommend living in the Marylander Apartments.I lived here for three years while I was an undergrad at JHU and for a year afterwards. And in fact, I mostly enjoyed living here. I never ran into any of the issues with management or maintenance that the other reviewers have, and I always found them to be very nice and helpful. And, to their credit, they have put a lot of work over the last year or so into making the building look nicer. At the end of the day, though, Morgan Properties is only interested in your money. The apartments are, frankly, overpriced. My monthly rent for a studio apartment with a kitchen the size of a small bathroom was $900. The apartments are also not very nice. Many of the apartments have a strange wood/tile flooring (never really figured out the material) that scratches easily and is very ugly. None of the apartments have dishwashers. The dryers in the laundry room are often broken and never marked as such, so you end up wasting your money. The elevators are broken one week, fixed the next week, and then broken again after another week. At the rate they charge and the number of apartments in the building, you would expect a much higher quality than you ultimately get. Most important of all, make sure you CAREFULLY READ THE LEASE. There is a provision in it for auto-renewal of the lease. They will send you a letter in the mail three months before your lease ends, showing you the different prices for extending the lease. If you do not respond to this mailing saying that you wish to terminate the lease, the lease will automatically renew for another year and they will make ZERO EFFORT to warn you. This happened to me, and despite the fact that I spoke to the leasing office on THREE separate occasions regarding the fact that I would be moving out, not a single time did they EVER warn me that I would be hit with an Early Termination fee equal to FOUR MONTHS RENT. I happily moved out on my original lease end date and received a bill a few weeks later at my new address for $2500. The management of the building could not do anything, they directed me to the Morgan Properties Collections Department, where a human robot told me that they are not required to warn me and that they will happily screw you over if you do not understand the terms of the lease. So, if you have the time and legal chops to read a 20+ page lease and dont mind paying a four-star price for a two-star apartment, this place might be for you. Otherwise, you may want to look into some other apartments in the area.

To explain my negative rating, I wanna talk about an aspect of buildings that not many people talk about. That is, the color of the walls at the Marylander, it was crazy, it drove me insane, it was the most horrendous thing I have ever seen in my life. The white of those walls drove your entire body to insane convulsions and thoughts of horrendous feelings, anxiety, shame. The whiteness produce a synesthesia, in which their painstakingly plain and devoid of life character rang in my ears for the entire night, causing me to break my eardrums to stop the disaster befalling my ears. It was a crazy time, I dont wanna ever go through it again.

Dont believe the 5 star ratings. They post flyers asking residents to give them ratings for a chance to win a prize or something. Dont be fooled by how nice the lobby is either. The actual apartment is old and unmodern.Speaking from my experience, this place isnt awful. But there are a lot of things wrong this place. The closets are bigger than the kitchen. Actually, the bathroom is probably bigger than the kitchen. The smoke detector is located right next to the kitchen so theres no way you can cook anything without it going off. I literally turned on my oven to preheat it once and the smoke detector went off. There is no ventilation as the windows are far from the kitchen and there is no fan.Heating is a problem during winter. It is either always too hot or too cold depending on your room. My apartment was always too hot. It was literally a sauna until I had maintenance shut off my radiator. Oh but its still too hot. I have to turn my AC on even when its 30 degrees out. Speaking of my AC, when I first moved in, the AC unit was moldy and was spitting out black stuff when it was on. Had maintenance replace that of course.Package room is unorganized and I wouldnt be surprised if there are thefts every week. Its literally just a room of shelves with sections labeled off for each floor. Ive had packages go missing and to find them later on in another floors section. No real system or security at all. Mailboxes are messed up too. Some are just broken and you can see peoples mail sticking out. No real sense of privacy or security when it comes to your mail.Parking is hit or miss. If you get a good spot, you have a ton of space. If you get a bad spot, youre sandwiched in by other cars or the pillars. Ton of street parking thats free on the weekend though.Laundry is also hit or miss. If you go on a good day, half the machines are empty. If you go on a bad day, all the machines are being used. Oh and machines break down pretty often too so good luck. But let me explain to you guys what just happened to me and what prompted me to write this review. There were some random cracks forming in my ceiling in the living area. I had nothing to do with them so I called up maintenance to patch them up. They come in two days later, while Im at work. After I come back, I notice the ceilings are fixed. But then I also notice paint and white powdery residue ALL over my apartment. Paint on my desk and on the carpet. Powder over the carpet and my clothes and for some odd reason, ALL over my bathroom. It literally looks like someone dumped a bag of coke over my toilet and sink. Absolutely no respect.I would give this place one star if it werent for certain perks that they have. Its cheap, good location, gym/parking is decent, a ton of closet space, and the fact they are attempting to modernize the place. Avoid this place unless saving money is your main priority.7/10/18 Update: Down to one star. Ive had it with this apartment.Recently, Maryland has been hit with long heat waves of temperatures of over 95 degrees. Somehow the apartment is hotter indoors than out. The lobby, hallways, and basement is hotter than it is outdoors, making tenants have to blast their units AC and drive up their own electric bill. Im sweating by the time I walk down a few floors. How is this even possible??Furthermore, management told tenants that they were going to be doing inspections in each unit for pests and that they would be out in 3minutes. That is perfectly fine and understandable. What is not fine is the fact that they have the audacity to take off my mattress liner and bedsheets and just leave all of my bedding in a pile for me to clean up. No respect.Oh and we have emergency water breaks in the building. Forgot to mention this occurs randomly every few weeks (In addition to the monthly scheduled water maintenance) Have fun not having water two or three times a month from 9am-5pm.Despite all of these problems, management has the audacity to label this place a luxury apartment. That should tell you something. No respect.

I began living in the Marylander about 7 months ago; it quickly became obvious that I made a poor decision. Within the first week of moving in, I noticed my air conditioning unit blowing literal bugs into the air. There was cold air, but a plethora of dead bugs would stream from the unit whenever turned on. I cannot fathom how that could possibly happen, or where even the bugs were coming from. Furthermore, when asked to fix the problem in my unit, the hotel staff came promptly, but inadvertently destroyed some of the piping related to the water supply for the toilet when breaking down some of the dry wall to get to the air conditioning circuitry. Thus I could not use the bathroom in my own apartment, and had to ask to use my neighbor’s, who charged me a $7 daily fee for the service. Yet the worst part came later. While waiting for the hotel staff to fix both of the glaring issues within my apartment, I received my rent for the month. Included in the bill was an extra $145 fee for “causing excessive and avoidable damages to the utilities in the apartment.” Absolutely absurd.

Maintenance is awesome, no complaints with that department. The lobby is beautiful, small fitness facility in the basement, and a nice social room in the basement. They cater to the Johns Hopkins community and at times I felt I was living in a dormitory. Apartments are very outdated, kitchen very small, no counterspace. Limited cabinet space. There is a mini fridge and mini oven. Way too small for an adult apartment. My college apartment dorm rooms had/have larger oven ranges, refrigerators, and kitchens than them. Living room and bedroom are spacious. Laundry room had outdated machines that constantly messed up, which were finally replaced. Leasing office is not prompt and do not handle all concerns within a timely fashion, but the staff is nice and respectful. I had short term leasing and asked to extend for one month. I asked for this extension in June for August. I followed up in person, via email, and phone multiple times. I was given a two week extension because no one got back to me about the one month extension. I had to pay a hefty price for that. Then a manager finally contacts me in August about an extension. By then I only needed an extension up to August 31st. (My two weeks extended me to 8/20, my contract for my job ended 8/27). I was told I had to extend to 9/19, even though I reached out to them in June and was very proactive and constantly followed up. I said I will no longer be living here, I work contracts, and I will be moving out on the 31st of August. I do not need to extend into September. I was told the best they could do was Sept 9th. I say whatever, take it, pay them up into Sept 9th. Thats 9 days that youre getting free money from a tenant that will not be living there. They never prorated my parking, then they miscalculated and told me I owed $100 more after I already paid the final amount due to them. Once I asked for a breakdown from property mgr (Sandra/Sandy) because I wanted to ensure I was being charged properly, she stopped communication and did not email me back. Completely unprofessional. I will never stay here again and would never recommend to anyone. Its unfortunate because it is in a beautiful, safe area with tons to do in walking distance. I was a good tenant in the 15 weeks that I lived there. Kept the apartment clean and paid my $1560 + trash + sewer + water + parking + a $6.95 service fee just to pay your rent online (which would equal close to $1700) on time. I usually paid the month before to make sure I was never late.

The following is a list of my honest experiences at The Marylander. I was a person who reported issues to management so it is not as if I was not active in any complaints. The Marylander is a temporary place. Its not somewhere to make home; its more you need a place for a year or youre in school and need a very small area.1. The location is great. Many restaurants are in walking distance and Hopkins is across the street. A small Barnes and Nobles is also near.2. The staff is very brisk with current residents but when interested parties are there to take tours, you will see the old used car sells man come out.3. During the winter, the building heat comes on after the weather drops to a certain degree, which is not convenient especially for those who are not accustomed to cold climates. There is a window unit but it does not heat the entire unit and is subject to being broken.4. The bus lines 3, 62, and the one going to the mall are very close. If you ever need the bus, you have access. The Collegetown Shuttle is also very close as well. Uber is in the area at all times. The Purple Route is also right there and is frequent.5. There are finally new washers and dryers in the laundry room but be aware this place has around twelve floors of thirty or so apartments each, with one laundry room containing less than fifteen washers and less than fifteen dryers so there is always a wait.6. Many people have animal companions, which is great but many of the owners have difficulties understanding that saying he wont bite doesnt mean their pets should not be on the property without a lease. Please dont be fooled by any response this gets. Right outside the backdoor, people let their dogs run (this is not the dog park portion). Management says they cant say anything unless you snap a picture or tell them exactly who it is. We dont all know each other.7. The maintenance staff is very nice and tries to do what they can in an old building where I imagine they arent provided with the best tools. Security is also in the building and that is always nice to know.8. Expect fire alarms to go off anywhere from five to ten times a week each fall. These alarms happen in the day time, very late at night, and sometimes after midnight and many times consecutively. There was a fire once and when I asked management if messages could be sent out, I was initially told no one was hurt so that wasnt a problem. Fortunately, they do send out messages now when things happen.9. You do unofficially get access to various newspapers and magazines. Many have coupons that are very helpful and you can stay informed on the local news.10. Small studios (a little smaller than a hotel room) now run about $1100 a month but you may be able to get it for 9 something if there is a deal.11. The garbage disposals at the end of the hall sound like a good idea, but after you have stayed there a day, you realize they smell. Any one who has ever visited knows The Marylander smells bad and this has nothing to do with people cooking - its that garbage in the building idea. Yes, its taken out but it has sat over night. Trash belongs in a dumpster or compost, not in closets in the hallways.12. Ask to walk in the stairways, not just the elevators and you will see the quality of the building. The carpets need cleaning. It is common to see spilled liquids or urine from pets in the elevators or staircases.13. Safety plus = the building has controlled access so a key is needed to get in.14. Packages are sent and sorted in a mail room. You will not be notified of a package therefore you must know when someone sends you something. Tell friends and family do not surprise you because you will never get it! Always track items.15. Sometimes management will give out snacks like popsicles, pizza or things like that so there is some resident appreciation. An old building does not mean it cannot be clean or neat. Old houses and buildings can be beautiful. Management staff has turned over three times in less than a year and a half.Great location though.

My review is based off of my experience and confirmed by residents I have grown to become friends with. It may not be everyones experience, but it will be worth a read if you are considering moving to this apartment building.Nontheless, it will definitely be WORTH THE READ.I will start with a positive. The area is cool ! That is truly why some places are able to charge so much because you re right next to the prestigious JHU. Lot of homeless asking for money, but thats the city. Nice little eateries and book options and Farmers Market. Also, the property manager is very nice and helpful. Even if at some point you are getting on her nerves, you will never know it. She maintains propriety and is a very nice person.I would never recommend for anyone to live in this building until they start truly investing the property. For what your rent, bills and hidden fees will amount to, there are better quality places to live in Charles Village. On my move-in day, my sister found a dead roach in the cabinet. I have seen more insects but they cover pest control, (I wonder why). There is very poor ventilation in the hallways, smells are often trapped with heat causing one to sweat just from opening the door. The old paint in the sink peels badly and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.It is hard to clean off and is very unsightly. The building is very old and therefore, Im willing to bet that the mixture of the chipped paint in the sink mixed with dishes you eat and drink from cannot be good for your health. There is also a relentless red rust in the shower/bath tub. It will not go away even after you clean it. When I first moved in, I had to put in quite few work orders things like the closet door falling off, handles on the cabinets, and all of a sudden my water would not stop running. If they put you anywhere near a trash room, you will more than likely have nets in your space because I did!The air conditioner filter fills up quickly and dust will blow through your apartment. This, in addition to how dusty the apartment can be itself, especially without carpet. And depending on where you are, I wasnt even halfway up the building, you can get very poor air circulation, causing you to run your AC for a substantial amount of time.$$Parking is something like $180 per month! And if you street park, you will have to pay and tickets are NOT cheap and the meter maids are NOT slow nor forgiving. The only free day is Sunday and the other days after six pm. In the area, through no fault of the apartment building, car break-ins are common. Therefore, no one can guarantee the safety of your car. My friends window was completely broken along with 4 other cars on the street and no one was able to do anything.Make sure you read ALL of the fine print in the lease. Make sure you actually obtain a copy of your lease. If the BGE bill isnt in your name, it is an additional $50 a month. Also, think you might want to terminate your lease early? Think Again! Most places charge you a standard two months rent. The Marylander charges two months rent PLUS an additional termination fee equal to two months rent. Thats four months rent! No further comment on that one.If you are late on anything, please expect to be charged an amount you will not enjoy. As previously stated, this place is not horrible but my experience with this place was anything but enjoyable and I feel a waste of my hard earned money. I work full time and I am also in graduate school. It is a shame that for as much money as I was spending, I was uncomfortable in the place I called home. I would do thorough research before you think about signing a lease here.I only covered problems I believed were extra noteworthy.

I can only say, according to my 5-year experience as a tenant here, the service becomes worse and worse. The worst service is the frontdesk, where we pickup our packages. Now there are about five people handling packages, but the service is much worse than before. Usually it is impossible to take the packages on the delivered day. Those guys make every kind of excuse they can create to keep you from your own packages. The most frustrating thing is that you can see the items you have been expecting but you just cant get them! Also, the rent for the 2-br increases insanely - continuously by $200 these two years. I dont know who makes this stupid decision.I wont recommend an apartment with a bad trend, a really bad bad trend...

I signed up for Google plus just to let people know how horrible this place is. A bit lengthy story of mine but worth reading it to get an idea. Straight to the points.1. Clunking noise AND Worst management AND maintenance: they toss the issue between them, like, go and talk to management, then management says, go an talk to maintenance. There was a major clunking noise coming from the wall -from the apartment itself not from neighbors - whenever steam heater comes on. It was so loud to keep me up all night. Very hard to pin down the problem, because the noise only comes at nights and only when the heating is on. So I recorded a video to show when and where the noise is. I showed it to management, and they place a work order. I said to the management multiple times that I only hear it at nights, so there is no point for maintenance guys coming for a check during the daytime, because they wont hear it. Not surprising, they come in during the day, and say Uh, there is no noise. Of course not! So I told them directly that I only hear it at nights, so when I hear it, I will call you (the resident maintenance guy). He says ok. Next day, I hear the noise so I call the guy, He comes in and agrees that there is an issue. He says he doesnt know what to do, so should have his supervisor, Niel, to have a look at it to figure out what to do. And then a week passes by. They do NOTHING. So I go back to the management and tell the whole thing. They place another F**ing WORK ORDER!! So I tell her again, that it is useless...so give me a phone number of Niel so that I can talk to him directly. She wont give it to me, but just makes another call to the resident maintenance guy. NOTHING HAPPENS. Then somehow, I met the resident maintenance guy in the hallway, and tell him, Why did you not do anything? you said you and Niel (I never say this guy, dont know he even exists) will look into the noise issue He is like, Oh, I said I will ask Niel to see if he HAS TIME TO LOOK AT IT, NOT THAT WE WILL LOOK AT IT. WHAT??????????? F**king joke!!!! I ask him to make a phone call to Niel right now, he simply wouldnt do it. He PROMISED to have a look at it some time soon. A month has passed since then, and I STILL HEAR THE NOISE.Finally I decided to contact Baltimore city council to request an inspection of structural damage. If inspectors find an issue, the morgan properties will be fined.2. Inefficient staff in mail roomI had 2 occasions in which I was told there were no packages for me, and turned out there were. First occasion, a friend of mine sent me a pumpkin cheese cake by usps, and tracking number indicated that it arrived at the apartment. I go to the mail room and claim my package. He says, there is no package for me. Next day, again, no package. It turned out, there was the cheesecake delivered and misplaced somewhere, they couldnt find it! By the time I opened it, it had molds in it.Second occasion, I had an important document delivered from government office by usps. The exact ssame thing. Tracking says it is here. The mail room staff say it is not. It turned out, again, that they placed it somewhere invisible, and couldnt find it.As you can see, this apartment is barely operational.
