The new management at this place is extremely inefficient! I have had to call 10+ times to get back my $100 security deposit (I had no damage to the apartment) and I have yet to receive it and I moved out at the end of June. They keep telling me that they are “handling” it and nothing has yet to be done. It is very apparent that they don’t care about their residents. Don’t live here and don’t trust them with your money or time!

Truly love it here, it is in the perfect little area and the property has been updated. They recently put artificial turf in the dog park and added a pet wash, my dog loves it.

Ended up not needing the apartment due to a job change, but staff/customer service were excellent! Helpful, friendly and professional! Ive lived at two previous Hawthorne properties in other parts of NC and Lofts South absolutely keeps with the high standards of quality that Ive experienced at other locations. Were I staying in the area, I would look no further than here.

They ask you to write a review on their site right when you move in, so most of those are positive. However, after a month of living here i started having major issues. I came home to my toilet leaking at the base and through the wall to my living room. I was displaced that night at 11pm and told to pay up front for a hotel, that they would later reimburse me for. I Went to check on my dogs and cat the next day and found a huge hole drilled through to the foundation, dust covering all of my belongings and in the nose and eyes of my animals. I took them with me and asked for plastic to be put up. On day four i was told i could return to my apartment. Dust was still covering everything and the hole in my floor was covered by plywood. I told them i would not be returning until my clothes were dry cleaned (we have to pay to use the laundry facility) and my apartment was terminally cleaned by professionals. I had to pay out of pocket again for the dry cleaning. After ten days i was told everything was finished. Nothing was put back in its proper place and the toilet was still sitting in the shower. My handgun was also missing after i came back, which i had to make an insurance claim and police report about. A month later the water pressure was terrible so i filed a maintenance request and they dug up the foundation two days before thanksgiving, two days before my family was supposed to visit from Ohio. It was 7 days for that project to be completed and it rained in that time so my family had to wade through a puddle to get in and out of my apartment. We had a hurricane in September and the blue tarps are still on our roofs in January. There was no search for water damage and I’m just now seeing mold on my ceiling. I was accused of my dog barking uncontrollably when in reality it was the apartment behind me. This apartment has just been nothing but a nightmare since i moved in and i can’t wait to move out.

Do NOT choose to live in Hawthorne Lofts South. I have lived here for a month and a half and have had more problems than I have ever encountered at another apartment complex. To begin with, they dont show you a unit in the actual complex which led me and my partner to be shocked at what we found the first day we moved in. There was no washer/dryer hookup and the dish washer was broken from day one. Moving on to the bathroom, there was no toilet paper holder or towel rod installed which we had to do at our own expense. The paint on the doors is already chipping and on the second day my handle to my closet just came off in my hand. The complex is poorly lit at night making me nervous to walk my dog. In the loft bedroom the ceiling fan is so low that I have accidentally hit my hand and head multiple times until it was raised. Our toilet has broken multiple times and we have had to drive to gas stations just to use the bathroom. Our A.C. unit is broken (and covered in mold) and we were told it will take up to a week to replace. Basic necessities such as functional plumbing and air conditioning in the summer should not be too much to ask for. My advice is to seek other apartments available in the same price range, I really wish I had!

The new roofs are great! Unfortunately, there is still no recycling. I have talked to management about my concern and they said they would look into it. Two months later still no recycling.

Do NOT live here! When I first moved into the Hawthorne Lofts South my dish washer was broken, none of the downstairs outlets worked, my apartment smelled like sour mildew, and I started to notice mold on my clothes shortly after moving in. After an entire month of calling the office and leaving voicemails about these issues, I had to drive to the main office and address the issue in person. The man who came was very kind and he cleaned off the air conditioning unit in my sink and sprayed it with bleach and water. I am not an expert but that didn’t seem like the proper way to fix the issue. He told me to leave my closet doors open from now on and it should help. I should not have to leave my closet doors open at all times to prevent mold from growing. A couple of months went by and the mold was just getting worse. I bought a hanging rack for my car and all of my favorite appearal stay in my car now. I have tried to call several times but no one answers. A coworker of mine told me she used to live here too and had the same mold issue. She even filed a law suit against them.On top of my moldy clothes, I have a neighbor who smokes and the walls are so thin that my apartment has started to smell like cigarettes. When I called they said they would have someone come check my vents in my bathroom and upstairs. However, there are no vents in the bathroom or upstairs, and no one ever came.The floor is not wood, it’s like wallpaper and tears very easily. There is dog poop EVERYWHERE it’s disgusting. I understand they can’t know exactly whose leaving it but at least have the yard company who comes all the time pick it or set cameras out. I don’t know how to fix that but it is a major issue.Last point: No recycling bins!

Awesome staff at Hawthorne Lofts South and a beautiful property! Couldnt ask for more!
