First time visiting for me. I’ve been having my lovely wife cut my hair for the past several years. I was absolutely blown away by the entire experience. I had a smoked old fashion and was greeted very nicely by the bartender as I checked in. The consultation and stylist was so accommodating and friendly! I was very pleased with my haircut and beard trim. I will definitely be coming back and recommending Scissors and Scotch to all my friends and family. Thank you for spoiling this guy for a day!

Ive been here twice now and both times Ive left satisfied with a great looking cut and style. The stylists are friendly and professional and do a good job consulting what Id like done before starting. I would recommend this place to anymore looking for an great haircut at and affordable price.

Took a chance on S&S now after they reached out on social media when they first came to town. Jeana is great, professional, friendly, always offering the best suggestions. I’ve added some much needed grooming services and she make those as easy as can be. Mary the bartender always gets me to try something new. A drink before or after my cut is a great and much needed bonus. I should pamper myself like this more.

This place is amazing! It’s nice, clean, and professional. Everyone is extremely friendly and welcoming. The bar is a great addition if you are early or have a few minutes after to stay. Highly highly recommend.

Staff was incredible, from the stylist to both of the bartenders. Nothing here is a gimmick. Stylist gave me fantastic, honest advice about what would work for me and what to look out for if I wanted to try something new. Bar staff was extremely, and I really do mean extremely, knowledgeable about drinks and made for fantastic, easygoing, and friendly conversation. I’ve only been twice, but already know it’s where I plan on going for the foreseeable future. If I could give a better rating I would.

This was my first time being here, and they did such a great job overall. It’s felt truly professional and they truly did care about making sure you left happy with the haircut given. Having a beard for many years I was nervous about having someone I didnt know butcher it. Well I must say that didnt happen! From start to finish Bailey was Top Notch! Such a super cool Woman, very professional character. But mixed in a personality that made it personal as well. She asked me what I was looking for in a trim, and she killed it!!! 🤘🙏❤️

This was not my first time getting my haircut here, and usually it has been fine. I came in today for the first time in almost a year because I didnt want a haircut during the pandemic. I had longer hair and a long beard.I had said very specifically several times I didnt want to lose length on my beard, I wanted it shaped and rounded only. She said she was going to taper it a little and proceeded to cut my beard SHORT. It took a year to grow out and now I have to start again. On top of that, when I got home I found that the beard hair lengths at the bottom of my beard arent even at all, many of them are 2-3x the length of my beard, its like a bad lawnmower ran through it and missed a bunch of spots.I ended up paying almost $100 for the service? Sorry, but if you want to charge a high price, you cant just throw beginner hairstylists on the floor and think thats OK to do to people. Your luck may be different but I wouldnt risk it if I were you.

Wonderful experience from start to finish. Apointments fill up quickly but well worth it if you can plan ahead. Traveled to Iowa for work & its always a challenge to find a good place but Im very happy I found this place, only wish they had ta chain all over the states!Super clean & friendly staff.Their products are pretty awesome too & wide selection.Best advice: Show up a little early to enjoy a drink to unwind at the bar. Then sit back, relax and let them chop off that dead weight above your shoulders 😌

Booked a beard trim with Reid who I have seen in the past. Always a great experience and I always leave satisfied with a great looking beard!

My boyfriend came here for a haircut as his hair was very long and needed to be cut. For the past two years we have been trying to explain to a stylist how he wants his hair to be cut as he has a widows peak/receding hair line and the cut is meant to mask this. It never turns out quite right. This time however, the stylist Bailey did an amazing job, his hair has never looked better!! We will definitely be booking with this stylist every time he gets a cut from now on. The atmosphere here is great as well!

I dont really get many haircuts. As such I went in with almost no idea what I was hoping to do style wise I just knew it was time for a change. My stylist Alison was great. Got the length I wanted, and when she went to style it she explained what she was doing so that I could get the same results at home. I will definately be back again.

I know this is a haircut place but honestly I have to give the bar AND bartenders a 5. Best old fashioned in des moines area, but mostly great convos every single time I get a haircut. Wish I would have thought of this mens haircut/ultimate bar experience idea.

Really really wanted to like this place. Location is moderately convenient. Price for the service rendered seems fair. The atmosphere upon entering made it clear this experience was going to be different. Arrived at 3:20, appointment at 3:45, great. Just enough time for a drink..... At 4:10 I figured waiting for 25 minutes after my appointment was long enough and left without a cut. Terrible first and likely only experience. Do not recommend.

My barber shaved my head with a straight razor as well as sculpted my beard. The experience was top-notch, and the products they used did not cause any breakouts on my skin. The bar was fun to hang out at, and the bartender did an amazing job on providing top notch service.

Bailey is an amazing stylist and an amazing person she makes sure her clients are well taken care of and gives amazing feed back on how she thinks she can better your style or what she thinks may look good for you she also is amazing with trimming and shaping beards and she makes sure that your beard lines are crisp and clean and very in line. S&S took a mistake made by a rival barber shop and delivered on my desired goals. I had an image I wanted to make work, but brought an alternative for the barbers consideration. Not only did they believe they could make it happen, but that I could be able to style my hair to my goal in under five minutes. After a shampoo, cut, shampoo, and style, the barber walked me through the whole process so I could recreate the look at home. After spending over a decade in the Army with a buzz cut, it was a great experience being able to take my COVID long hair and turn it into the style Ive been curious about for years. Five stars, would recommend. The complimentary first time beverage was a nice touch too.

Emily was my barber, I came in for the first time to make sure I looked the best for my wedding this weekend. She trimmed my beard, hair, used straight razor my neck area. The hot towel felt great. She has a great personality for this field, is passionate about it and does quality work . Afterwards she explained the membership benefits to me and I got a free drink from the bar. Overall this was one of the best haircut experiences of my life. Thank youMy brother also got a haircut with me as he is one of my groomsman and his hairstylist did a great job on it.

Everytime I have been here they have treated me exceptionally! The phase you get what you pay for is true to its reputation here, because this isnt great clips. From the moment you walk in to grab an exceptionally made drink, to getting you hair done exactly how you want it done, you are treated right. My hair is always cut exactly how i want it, the conversation is fantastic, and when you walk out the door you are ready to take on anything. Perfect place to go get a hair cut and stiff drink.

I always enjoy my experience here! They offer you a beverage with the option of getting it before your cut or you can enjoy it after your cut in the bar/lounge. Javon was amazing and told my roommate and i a story i will not forget. Store is always clean and well organized. Antoinette gave me an amazing haircut and will make sure i go back to have another one with her. Will recommend coming here for an amazing experience and where you can be treated like family.

I am one of those guys that is loosing his hair. And by that I mean I have had a comb over for years that I hate yet cling to because I’m embarrassed about something I have no control over. After a drink and a conversation with the staff we came up with a plan and a few options. The newest look I have does show I’m loosing my hair but it at tastefully done so that I can hold my head high. Thank you for making this an easier transition for me. Wow! I got a gift card to Scissors and Scotch for Father’s Day and thought this would be fun to get a true barber experience. It was so easy to make an appointment online and select the services that I wanted. I got both email and text confirmations. The service was above and beyond expectations! Andrea listened to what kind of cut I wanted, asked the necessary questions and gave me the best barber experience I ever had. Shampoo, cut, hot towel, beard trim, neck shave then I went to the bar for the free drink (an old fashioned in my case). The Staff was friendly and the service was great! I am definitely going to join the club!

Had a great visit. Wasn’t sure what to do- usually keep my hair clipper short, but let it go for at least 7 months during the shutdown, etc and wanted to keep it long and wavy. Let Andrea decide what to do and she did a fantastic job. Couldn’t have gone better and my wife LOVED it. The smoked old fashioned, suggested by Andrea, was terrific, too. Will definitely be back.

Awesome place to get a quality haircut, and whiskey! Flew in from New York. Stopped in as a walk-in. First I hit the bar and ordered a drink from Mary, she’s super nice with an endless supply of friendly smiles. Reid cut my hair perfect. She majors in hair perfection and minors in good conversations. All around excellent service. Would highly recommend.

To say I go for a haircut would do a huge disservice to Scissors & Scotch. I go for the whole experience. The amazing haircut is just a part. Everyone is warm, inviting, and welcoming. You are immediately greeted and directed to the bar, where a perfectly poured drink will be given to you from an amazing bar tender. From the minute you walk in to the minute you leave, of which there is no rush ever, you are treated amazingly. The services are professional and you can tell everyone is very experienced. I leave feeling like a million bucks. Bailey was the stylist I had this time, as I had not been to the West Des Moines location yet. She was so amazing. The best haircut I have ever had, literally. The conversation was great and the service was 5 star the whole way through. I will be coming back and absolutely requesting Bailey again. I would suggest anyone to go here. If you want to get, in my opinion, the best experience with true professionals then this is the place to go.

This place is phenomenal just moved to the area and needed a place to go and found this place. Allison there is also by far my favorite stylist she makes me feel welcomed and always knows how to keep me entertained. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great place to get a haircut.

I was referred to S&S by a co-worker and also received a gift card from my kids for a haircut or two. My experience went beyond my expectations. My stylist was Aubrey. It is very relieving getting your haircut and knowing that it is specially cut to your hair type, cowlicks, and that the stylist is looking to create a lasting relationship with you and not just looking to make a quick buck on a 13 minute haircut. The lounge was a great area to unwind after a long week and to prep yourself for 40-50 minutes of a haircut. I could have spent easily 2-3 hours here. All in all, 5 stars, very great experience!

I surprise my bf with his first appointment at S&S this past weekend and it was so much more then I expected. The entire staff was fun, professional, and very helpful with all our questions. The bar area was beautiful, we are considering going in and just drinking because it’s such a well designed bar with great options. I got him the full haircut and straight razor experience, which I was far more excited then he was for this. (Just the idea of someone holding a straight razor to his throat was fascinating!) Alana was our gal and not only was she very meticulous on getting him the perfect cut, she was also understanding with me observing and asking a lot of questions. We had a wonderful time. James (my bf) said it was one of the most relaxing experiences he had in a long time. We will definitely be back!

This is the first, what I would call, expensive haircut. Well I can say officially. You get what you pay for. Im hooked. I will be starting a membership for my next cut and going back. It was an amazing experience and Im so happy with the results. My stylist listened to what I was looking for, gave her input, and the end result was as perfect as it could be for what I wanted. Would recommend this place for anyone as it is worth the price.
