I just moved in to Ava NoMa recently, and the staff has been so incredible through this whole experience! I was moving from out of state, but was always able to get in touch with someone over phone or email for any questions I had, even on weekends. Nikki was amazing at answering my questions, reaching out to assist me in the move in process, and helping me feel settled in my new apartment and neighborhood. The apartment itself is beautiful, the lobby and community areas are great, the package pick up is secure and easy, and the parking garage is well lit and easy to navigate!

Ive been living in AVA NoMa for about 9 months now! And I have to say it has been more than I could have asked for! For the building that it is, it is very affordable (living with two other people), and was by far the cheapest place that we looked at, and the others were townhouses (so we wouldnt have even had the amenities that AVA NoMa provides). It has a lovely rooftop that we visit often, a relatively decent gym (at least enough to not warrant getting a subscription somewhere else). But I think what really makes AVA NoMa so special is how lovely and kind our concierges are. Janice is one of the most lovely people I have had the pleasure of talking to in the morning, and Nikki always brightens up our night with a smile. Not only that, but they go out of their way to help in any way they can, and when they cant, they are able to point us in the right direction. Both myself and my roommates can attest to their kindness and I dont think I would be as willing to renew my lease without them around. So a special thank you to Janice and Nikki :)

This place has really gone downhill since the pandemic. Management seems to have abandoned a lot of the upkeep, service, and overall care for the community that made this place great a few years ago. There has also been an uptick in crime in the building lately and management has not had the proper staff on site to control unwanted visitors and parties getting out of control. Whole place feels like a dorm and management treats residents that way. Not well managed and a lot of the residents rightfully are annoyed because they pay a lot to live there. Glad I moved out a few months ago though a shame because pre-pandemic I had a great experience here.

My wife and I LOVED our unit, the amenities, and the community during our nearly two year residence at Ava NoMa. As we embark on our next chapter as homeowners, we will forever cherish the memories and relationships we created with the wonderful support of Ava staff members, such as Hilary T. who helped us find our unit and made us feel welcomed throughout our residence; Janice who greeted us with friendly smiles, laughs, and professionalism each and every day; Nikki who worked diligently to meet our needs; Fernando who kept the facilities clean and became our puppys favorite friend; and so many others. We would highly recommend Ava NoMa to anyone who values service, professionalism, amenities, and community.

After living at AVA for over 2.5 years I can honestly say that the management of not only the AVA NoMa, but also the Avalon 1st & M, as well as the corporate area leads do not care about the safety, enjoyment, wellbeing, or concerns of its residents. Over the past year the AVA NoMa has experienced an increase in crime, multiple incidents involving firearms, vandalism, an attempted kidnapping, SWAT presence, FBI presence, daily MPD callings, and the list goes on and on. Yes, the building is aesthetically pleasing and the maintenance staff are quick to respond to requests, but beyond that there is NO REASON to rent from Avalon Bay (again, this includes AVA NoMa, Avalon 1st & M, AVA on H, etc.; basically any Avalon property in the DMV area). Additionally, there is a severe lack of communication from the managers on staff at the AVA--when we went into lock down because of the attempted kidnapping, we did not receive any communication for at least 30 minutes, which is unacceptable when someones safety is in danger.Do yourself and your loved ones a favor and DO NOT LIVE HERE.

I have been at AVA NoMa for three years and although I appreciate that this is a pet friendly building the pets seems to be running the place. The dogs urinate right outside of the buildings front and rear doors leaving a god awful smell for me to live with, that’s horrible! The front of the building used to be well maintained and now it looks like a DIRT YARD AND DOG PARK right outside my door. Disgusting!! I wish the building was more considerate of the two legged tenants who pay to live here!!

Ive lived here for 3 years and its a beautiful building with well maintained units and common spaces. The Avalon team here really differentiates the building from all of the other buildings that Ive been to in the NoMa neighborhood. Theyre super attentive and do a great job of being friendly and professional. The team members that Ive known for the longest here are Janice at the main desk, Hilary in leasing and Falco in maintenance. All of them have made living here super enjoyable, in addition to everyone else that keeps the building running so smoothly.

The community consultants Eddie and Chanell are top notch!Now... we all know that the front desk at an apartment complex can make or break the community. Well the front desk staff member DANIEL certainly makes this place! He goes above and beyond and genuinely nice!!! Moved out a few months ago, but while I lived here AVA NoMA was exactly what I was looking for. My furnished studio was small, but so well-laid out that it felt cozy, not cramped. I was also impressed with the quality of the furnishings—I think they were all IKEA, and even the mattress was solidly comfortable. I looked at many options when I moved in, and I feel like this was far and away the best furnished apt rental option in DC.I was also pretty impressed with the customer service in general, and Hillary especially. How does she remember the name of every tenant?! She always made me feel welcome, and always took time to answer my questions quickly and thoroughly. I’m always nervous when it comes time to move out, but there were no issues at all getting my security deposit back.Other pros:-Super convenient for metro-StreetsMarket just downstairs-Thick walls, only noises I ever heard were sounds from the hallway and one neighbor who played music with really strong bass-Very nice amenities (when they’re open, thanks COVID)A few cons:-So, so many dogs. Some are loud barkers and they leave the sidewalk outside constantly smelly-Occasional strong weed smells in elevators and hallways-Windows only open about 6 inches, particularly painful when quarantining with no balcony-Slow elevators, mostly only an issue with social distancing

TLDR: Great apartment complex, situated at the center of DC, great amenities, a friendly staff and great prices—no hidden fees! Great diversity of residents with amazing restaurants, a supermarket, and CVS within 5 mins!I’ve lived at AVA NoMA for about six months and thoroughly enjoyed my time living here. Hillary was responsive and quickly assisted me with the leasing process and getting settled into the apartment. When I needed assistance with getting additional things changed to my lease she always responded within 24-48 hours. Her willingness to respond quickly and address my needs really made my experience better! The front desk staff—WOW. Incredibly helpful, always assisting me with things I needed, and very organized with the packages! The amenities are nice, the courtyard is really relaxing and the rooftop is NICE, you can see the Capitol from it.Great for someone that wants to live in the center of DC, with restaurants, a supermarket, and Starbucks within a 5 minute walk! You can also easily walk to H street, and the Senate building which is a HUGE PLUS! You do not need a car to live in this area, but if you do they have a safe, well lit garage for it!While my specific apartment was relatively quiet/soundproof, I can hear footsteps of the people walking above me sometimes. My specific unit faced Pierce St., and you can hear the garage trucks in the morning. So be mindful of this if you’re sensitive to sounds.I love living here and you’ll definitely like it too, especially if you’re new to DC!

Big picture – I lived in this building for three years – first with a roommate and then with a partner. The building is nice – the amenities are a definite selling point (that pool!). That said, the building is extremely mismanaged and many things could be much improved with minimal effort. Note this is not a critique of the front desk staff, but rather the community managers and AvalonBay as a whole. You should also know before moving to this apartment that a lot of young people live here (college age or just graduated), so things get relatively rowdy on the weekends, especially on the rooftop. Average age in the building is probably 23-24. I also generally think the building is overpriced for the area/square footage and the security definitely needs work.Apartments – We lived in a two bedroom apartment in Ava for three years and generally liked it. That said, the layout of the apartments is what eventually led us to move. None of the two bedroom layouts have a true master bedroom with a guest room/office, which is what we really needed. You end up with a ton of closet space and not a lot of living space.Security – This could be much improved. The management refused to hire a nighttime security guard and there’s absolutely no way the concierge could be expected to manage the front door at all times (they have to take breaks and manage a lot of other things that take them away from the desk during their shift). In the three years we lived there, a number of non-resident and non-guest individuals entered the building and were able to gain access to residential floors of the building. Needless to say it was less than ideal and management didn’t do much about it other than installing a security camera – that the overworked concierge was also expected to monitor. The fire alarms also go off constantly and it’s never clear to residents whether there is actually an emergency or it’s a drill or just a mistake. This is extremely unsafe and annoying and always bothered me.There were multiple break-ins in the garage while we lived there, and again, management did very little to respond. On a few occasions, they failed to notify residents that a break-in occurred at all until residents began discussing it in the complex’s Facebook group.Amenities – The amenities are gorgeous and very modern. They are some of the best in the area – that said, they are woefully mismanaged. The dog park, although quite spacious, is often dirty, constantly stinks of dog urine (because it has no drainage or sprinklers) and has a water fountain that has been broken for at least 2 years. A number of dogs got ill from the park while we lived there. The roof, pool and clubhouse are lovely as well, but as I mentioned, get very busy and very rowdy (pre-Covid) on summer weekends.Staff/Management – This is the area most need of improvement. Ava’s corporate management could be greatly improved. During the early months of the COVID-19 outbreak, AvalonBay failed to communicate their plans appropriately and residents were often irritated by the lack of transparency on what policies were in place and for how long. Residents were often extremely vocal about issues in the community (cleanliness, safety, etc.) and were met with little response. Once you’re locked into your lease, they don’t really care about impressing you.The maintenance staff is kind and very responsive. The front desk staff ranges from generally ok to great. They are expected to handle way too many responsibilities in addition to keeping a large building with multiple entry points secure (hire a security guard Ava!). Janice, who works at the front desk, deserves a shout out, I actually don’t think the building could function without her.

Ive lived here for almost 2 years. The apartment is pretty nice and the location is great. The staff, especially the front desk is usually pretty good. The amenities have become increasingly poorly maintained. During the summer months the amenities are so overcrowded they are not even usable. This is more frustrating because they is a curfew on amenities which means that you may not get a chance to wait your turn. The main reason for a 2 star rating is due to the leasing supervisor, Hillary, who has been miserable to work with after my lease was in place. She has misinformed me on policies, berated me and hung up on me. This was a huge contrast to my otherwise generally positive experience living here. If you move in, I strongly recommend only communicating with leasing staff via email to hold them accountable for their misrepresentations.

Very welcoming .. various seating . Inside and outside . Wifi .. they even have a free printer for you to even be able to do you work in the lobby. My apartment is gorgeous .. modernized ( even has atleast one outlet with a usb port in each room ) .. view is great . I had one issue with outlets not working and my request was responded too and fixed in less than 24 hours .Also I was able to do the whole lease without coming to Ava . AVA NoMa is the most poorly managed apartment building I have ever witnessed. The complete lack of regard for the residents is astounding. Avalon Bay is just a large company that only cares about making money. Management and the leasing office have been awful about communicating with residents about the change in policy regarding covid-19 and amenity hours. Additionally, the fire alarms are constantly going off and they say nothing to residents about what the reason for the alarm was and it disturbs many people working from home.New rules are arbitrarily put in place such as the courtyard closing at 10pm, treating us like we are literally college students in a dorm. However, the building next door, Avalon First on M, doesnt have the same rules even though it is managed by the same company.Avalon claims to care about protecting their residents during this pandemic but they rarely clean the common spaces. The roof is falling apart with broken tables and grills and the cushions on the outdoor furniture are growing mold. Same goes with the pool that was also growing algae and was cleaned maybe once this summer. These are amenities we are residents pay for and management cant bother to make sure they are clean, creating a serious liability. The dog park is also a huge mess. There is no drainage so it constantly reeks of urine. The one water fountain for the dog has been broken since I moved in even though we had one of the hottest summers on record, they cant even bother to fix the water fountain and provide hydration for. the dogs in a park without any shade. They have lied to me several times. and claimed that they are waiting on a part to come in, yet it has been almost 6 months and no one has even looked at it. They then gaslighted me and told me maintenance was never made aware that there was an issue after I filed several reports.Lastly, they offer deals on their website that they refuse to offer residents who are looking to transfer their lease or renew. Avalon bay acts like they have plenty of money but are surely going bankrupt since they have no incentive to keep their residents in the building.

I lived at AVA NoMa for a year and it was hands down the best community I have ever lived in. The amenities are incredible, and the staff is so warm and welcoming at all times. I moved in December of 2018, and shortly after, the Streets Market was put in next door, attached to the apartment. This means as a tenant, you can get groceries, dinner, and beer without ever leaving the building! The apartment itself was amazing, had floor to ceiling windows, and had a gas stove (on the Penthouse levels). Any maintenance issues were always resolved immediately, and the maintenance staff is great and friendly as well. AVA is pet friendly as well, and even has a dog park in the courtyard! AVA always does fun events throughout the year to get everyone involved in the community, including pool parties, and food and wine tastings! AVA is also located in a great spot in the neighborhood. Wundergarten beer garden in less than a block away, the NoMa summertime outdoor movies are held right outside next door, and you’re within walking distance to Union Market, REI, Red Bear Brewery, Indigo, and many other restaurants. The Metro is less than a block away as well! I really had no bad experience to speak of, and I would’ve stayed had I not purchased a house. If you’re looking for an apartment in DC, just go look at AVA, you won’t be able to resist moving in! If you decide to look at AVA, ask for Hilary, she’s amazing and can help you out with anything you need!!

I have lived at AVA NOMA for a couple of years now and will be moving out when my lease is up soon. I do not need much from an apartment building, which is why AVA NOMA unfortunately is failing to keep me as a tenant. They are not great at customer service. A couple of examples are their inability to deal with an ongoing noise issue with my neighbor and the front desk consistently not being staffed to a point you have to give up at times waiting for someone to return. What is the point of paying a lot of money for a building with a front desk if it is not staffed properly. It is a beautiful building, very comfortable to live in, it could use better upkeep in the common areas though, especially the hallways. They have not been touched up at all in the two years I have lived there. Walls are all marked up from people moving in and out. If the customer service was even 50% better then it would be a great place to live. If you need nothing from the building other then a nice apartment to live in, you will be good. If you ever need anything from the building though, be prepared for a hit or miss experience.

This is a really great place in an awesome location. You have plenty of access to grocery stores, the metro right down the street going to the red line, a dog park across the street, and H St and Union Market are a short walk away. You can scooter over to the National Mall pretty quickly along the nearby bike path. The best part about the place are the people. My friends call it the adult dorm because its such a fun environment. They make an effort to do social events with the residents and theres a Facebook group which does a lot to help people connect. Theres a fantastic gym with a lot of equipment. The management is really responsive and will sort out any issues you have very quickly. The staff are really nice and friendly. The only problem is that they lie about heating the pool. They love to tout that they heat it year-round, but what that really means is that its heated above freezing so that they dont have to cover it in the winter. Youd have to be crazy to get in it. Even in the summer unfortunately its still like the polar bear challenge trying to get in the water and they refuse to heat it because theres really no incentive for them to do so. Apparently there was a day when they heated it too much and people complained, so they just stopped. Youll see people getting in the water on the very hot summer days, but I think theyre just numb from drinking. Nonetheless its a gorgeous pool to look at, especially compared to any other pool in the area. So in all, its the best place in Noma, and worth it to live in Noma even if its a further commute for you if you need to go up the red line because the metro access is so convenient. Though its expensive, its worth it to get such a new place with great amenities.

Cannot say enough about the wonderful experience my husband and I had when meeting with the AVA NoMa staff about leasing an apartment. We worked with Aaron who was hands down the nicest leasing agent we experienced in our 3-day apartment hunting extravaganza in D.C. He was knowledgeable and extremely patient with all the questions we had and had no problem letting us see apartments multiple times across several days. I also felt like he wasnt trying to up sell us or stretch the truth about what the building can offer us (which isnt hard to do because AVA NoMa really has everything a renter could want). Other places we looked at would flat out lie to us just to try and seal the deal and get us to sign a lease, which we obviously didnt appreciate and it in the end it steered us away. So I continue the trend with some of the other reviews that aside from the amazing trendy apartments and sick amenities, AVA NoMa takes the cake simply for the phenomenal staff. Even after leaving D.C. that weekend Ive had nothing but wonderful experiences following up with AVA NoMas staff through phone and email about things related to my upcoming move.

Have been beyond thrilled with my experience here at AvA NoMa ! From Aaron in the leasing office, to the fantastic concierge team as well as the ever acommadating maintenance team, everyone is top notch! The buildings amenities are second to none -- that pool is perfect after a long day at work and the work lounges are perfect when you dont feel like sitting in your gorgeous apartment ... though I do dream of coming back here while at work. I love it here -- it has made my transition to DC all the better and couldnt be happier with my decision.

This building has roaches. Stay away. The longer I live here the worse my experience gets. If youre a professional or over 25, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. Start with The Belguard across the street. Weve had roaches in our unit for 2 months now with no solution or accommodation from management. Ava Noma has been a nightmare to live in. From endless frat parties Thursday - Sunday, staff that does not prioritze your needs, and just an overall lazy, unprofessional atmosphere here. For what you are paying, you can do better. My absolute last time renting in this building and from this property group.

Moved into Ava about a week ago and cant recommend it enough! Starting with the tour of the property and continuing through pre-move in communication and move-in day, Ive been so impressed. The Ava team really goes above and beyond (shoutout to Paul and Joe!) in making you feel welcome and taking care of everything. The building itself is beautiful and has awesome amenities. Everyone Ive met in the building so far is so friendly and Im excited to have picked such a great place to be.

AVA NoMa is the best new apartment building in NoMa. The staff are helpful and responsive (shout out to Joe), the amenity spaces are useful and impeccably designed and the unit layouts maximize storage and livable space. We recently moved from another building in NoMa and are very happy with that decision.

I want to take a few lines to talk about what sets this place apart from the the countless other apartments in D.C. High end apartments in D.C. are outfitted with pools, games, clean floors, and lovely aesthetics. But these facts regarding spatial features do not equate to customer service, compassion, hospitality, or authenticity. At AVA NoMa, I had the pleasure of being helped by Ms. Hilary Tutman and Mr. Leon Dixon. In regards to my request and need for help they could have said, its almost 5PM on a thursday afternoon, what do you want? OR Sorry sir, we just cant help. But they chose not to. They helped me problem solve and get through an unfortunate life event that occurred that afternoon. I wasnt a tenant in the apartment or staff at the apartment, I was walking dogs for a company. There was no reason for them to care about my situation. But they did. They were incredibly kind, compassionate, and willing to engage with me when they had every reason not to be.Those that comb through these reviews may scratch their head at this review. People may read this review and ask but what about the floors, scent, or ambiance of the place?Well let me make it real clear, without people like Mr. Leon Dixon and Ms. Hilary Tutman places like AVA NoMa wouldnt be running. At the end of the day, people make the experience at apartments like Ava NoMa and life itself. So that is what sets this place apart from all of the other spots in D.C. and frankly, knowing that Ms. Hilary Tutman and Mr. Leon Dixon have your back, should be reason enough to book a room here. With love & gratitude,David Friedman from 5/23/2019

UPDATE: 2/26/18I still love everything about this building but theres a non-padded part of the gym where people are constantly dropping dumbbells and kettlebells which is unfortunate because we live directly above the gym on the 3rd floor. We received a really competitive renewal but I honestly dont know if we can deal with it another year. Last night we heard loud thuds at 10 p.m. which is not ideal..._______________________________________________________Moved in a few weeks ago and were absolutely loving the building, staff, amenities, and apartment thus far!

My husband and I moved to Ava Noma a couple of weeks ago. Since we toured the property we loved it. The apartment are very modern, decent size, generous closet space, beautiful kitchen with island, concrete ceiling, wood floor, and a great balcony. The building has great amenities, best fitness center Ive seen in DC, social area with Tvs, work stations, kitchen, amazing outdoors space, dog park and grooming stations, no additional charge bike storage... and cant wait for the opening of the rooftop and the amazing infinity pool around Memorial Day weekend. So far, we have been very pleased, everyone is very nice and they care that you feel good and are ready to respond to your needs. Great social events, concierge 24/7, and a whole team ready to assist you, especially Aaron, whos on top of everything and very responsive! We love Ava Noma!

I first started looking for a DC apartment while I was located in Dallas. After finding AVA NoMa online I was immediately impressed with the website, price point and amenities. I called and scheduled to speak to a Leasing Consultant and was connected with Daysha. She was and is awesome!Since I was still in Dallas at the time, I was a little nervous about renting a place without seeing it first but Daysha was extremely helpful with offering to send photos or even FaceTime. Long story short - I signed my lease without seeing the apartment and everything that I saw and was told exceeded my expectations. I even had a few items mailed before moving to D.C. and Daysha went above and beyond to place my packages into my apartment for me.Overall, Im pleased. The sound in the apartment is minumin - the concrete floors help. The kitchen and furnishings are well built as well. Ive lived in about 3-4 luxury apartments and the gym is the best Ive encountered. There is no need for buying a gym membership. Maintenance is extremely responsive - my two tickets have been closed within 8-12 hrs. The front desk staff is always helpful and friendly. Janice always has a smile on her face and has gotten to know me as a person and not just a resident. The only negative I have is this building caters to more of a younger crowd than other buildings in the NoMa area which causes a little headache every now and then but thats to be expected with living in a large complex and having the amenities that we have.Overall, Im pleased and will resign my lease when the time comes.

I knew this was going to be an excellent experience when i called to ask some questions about the apartments and Daysha(a community consultant) actually ran up to the apartment i was interested in and facetimed me so i could see the apartment(i was on the west coast and moving to DC for a job). This was my first experience with AVANoma and it just got better from there. The apartment exceeded my expectations partly due to the amazing facilities, but mostly due to the excellent staff. You can guarantee that youll always be greeted by friendly, and helpful, concierge staff(Janice and Devin most of the time are behind the desk during weekdays, always smiling and always helpful and kind). All of the leasing staff are super helpful and always willing to answer your questions or just sit down for a casual chat(thanks to liz, aaron, daysha, and the entire staff). As for maintenance requests, amazingly quick efficient service, usually within 24 hours of your request, plus i always got a follow up phone call to say that my work was done. The building is kept impeccably clean and rooftop pool and views are stellar. As for noise, being that this is a concrete building all i can say is that its rare that i ever hear anyone, as opposed to reviews ive read of other buildings in the area, so if you want a building with excellent noise reduction, look no further. This was my first venture into large apartment buildings and all i can say is that between the amazing staff and the amenities found in this building, and its proximity to the H street corridor and union market and Noma metro stop(2 blocks away), this was an excellent choice of living space.

I started my internet search on a Thursday night and was very impressed with the property in regards to amenities, space, price, location and value for the money. On Friday, I planned my day to set out and view 3 or 4 properties, but visited AVA Noms first. After walking-in and completing a tour of the property, I was thoroughly convinced there was no need to look elsewhere. I moved in to my new residence on Tuesday of the following week due to Monday being a holiday. The entire staff I encountered both in person, email and phone (Paul, Joe, Daysha, Devin, Ester, Janee, Janice, Pierre, and Liz) have all exceeded my expectations in terms of their superb levels of customer service. Hands down, they all made me feel very welcome and proud to call AVA Noma my home. Although everything today is always about business, the staff made my experience personal and accommodating which supported a seamless and smooth transition. If youre in the market for a new place, I highly recommend checking them and making AVA Noma your home. I look forward to being your neighbor.
