Price for 4 days was $123.00 at first. This price does not include the $52.00 for taxes and miscellaneous fees. So total for a very compact car (Ford fiesta) was $172.00. They will try to upsell you and their policy is $13.00 a day for a spouse! So that would be an additional $52.00. So now not that great right. Not the best service. I usually use Hertz and Enterprise. I wont be using dollar again. I recieved better service from enterprise. No upselling, no additional driver costs and the cars are better. Usually enterprise will upgrade me at no costs.
This should be 0 star. Horrible representation on their website. Unwilling to accommodate how they screwed me over! Chose a different company.
Worst experienceNo starsExtremely long linesAbsolutely did not receive the vehicle I reserved & paid for. Needed a full size 5 passenger vehicle received a compact car.Was told nothing they could do about it(Meanwhile we watched a single person get into a full size vehicle)The 4 of us stood there with all our luggage trying to figure out how this is going to workNo cares from Dollar at all. They could have at the very least discounted the price & could have definitely been more hospitableI felt I had no choice to accept it as I already waited in line for 1 1/2 hours and needed a vehicle to get aroundNo direction on where to find the vehicle and anyone working in the garage didn’t speak EnglishNeeded 2 drivers to be listed, Myself & spouse they only listed me. My spouse was driving so as we were leaving the garage they stop you and check your paperworkThey would not allow him to drive because he was listed and were told in order for him to drive we would need to go back and re do our contractHell if I was going to wait in line againOn top of not receiving the car I paid forthe vehicle we had pulled terribly to the leftAbsolutely would never recommend this company and will never rent from them again
Reserved a car but when arrived was told had to wait for cars to be returned and serviced before would have one available and no idea how long that would be. Long lines at rental counter. Understaffed. Two bright spots - 2 women at outside parking deck were hustling trying to get cars for customers. (In the meantime we were standing outside in the always pleasant (sweltering) Florida heat.) Car return was a breeze.
I wish I could give a negative rating. They took our reservation and took our money. They said they ran out of cars and we were quote on our own. I would suggest never pre paying and possibly not using dollar in the future.
Worst service ever! A associate told me He had to hold 500 deposit on my visa credit debit card to get my reserved vehicle, I said ok he yelled my card was declined I thought maybe because I was out of state, called my bank and they said a associate tried to charge my card 1,100 dollars to my account I asked the associate why he charged me that amount. He just looked at me blinking his eyes! I told him I was done and went to AVIS they were awesome! Took car of me and upgraded my vehicle with no extra charge
Absolutely terrible customer service. The man we spoke to was really rude and said personally mean things even though we were nice. Tried to scare us into buying the extra packages saying we knew nothing about cars. We stood in line 2 hours to get a car we were overcharged for. We called in earlier and they told us the underage charge was $20 a day and when we arrived in person they charged us $30 a day. Do NOT rent from them.
Had a reservation for today but dollar did not hold up their end. I waited in line for 40 minutes to hear they can’t rent me the size car I reserved because it’s not available. I have a reservation so if the vehicle is not available that’s what you should remedy. I was offered a compact car for 257.00 a day. Never again and I mean never. This car for one day cost more than a plan ticket. One star is because it makes you give a star for a review but they deserve none. No customer service at all.
Short wait time on getting my vehicle. Was offered a 5$ a day upgrade to a bigger car which I happily took. The man I dealt with at the counter was friendly. I had no problems at all which is why Im leaving a 5 star review.
This is not for DOLLAR, I love dollar and havent had any issues with them but because the COVID19 dollar location at airport is close so we as in Dollar Express Membera have to use HERTZ ughhh..Rental during covid 19 dollar is close but Im able to reserve through dollar but Im getting vehicle from HERTZ place open.I love dollar and wouldnt trade them for NO ONE..Hertz put a yellow sticker on there vehicles saying that its clean but its not..ok vacuum is not cleaning..trash under the seats, pet hair all over the back seats..I had to use a lint brush trying to clean the seats. The leather had green link dust thru out the leather in the truck..its crazy cause I had to get a feel detail on the rental cause that green like dust liked nasty and was scared to drive. Dollar please open ur vehicles back up please. Yall need to show Hertz employees how to clean.
All good, although they are very aggressive in trying to sell you their own insurance, even though you have your own. And when you tell them that you just want what you booked, they are not as courteous.
I was over charged on my rental and I have YET to get through to customer service and resolve this matter. I’ve called MULTIPLE TIMES with ALL hold on times in excess of 30+ minutes. If I could rate less than zero I definitely would.
Ive tried to rent a car from this place twice and its been a nightmare each time. Long lines. Not overly helpful staff. Do yourself a favor and pay more for a non thrifty and dollar rental while in Tampa.
If I could give a zero star, I would. We were fraudulently charged a fee of $34 per day for Damage Loss Waiver when our rental car itself was less than that amount per day. He specifically confirmed we had declined all insurance. He then had us sign a BLANK electronic signature box with no writing anywhere. He said ALL we are signing for is that we are taking the vehicle for the 6/7-6/9 rental. Come to find out the BLANK box we signed was actually signing for “damage loss waiver.” We feel completely scammed and taken advantage of. He flat out lied to our faces. And we called customer service and they said nothing can be done about it. Filed a report with the BBB. Hopefully business practices here can get a serious look into, because this is NOT a way to conduct business; by lying to customers and having them sign something completely different than what you say theyre signing.
I WILL NEVER RENT FROM DOLLAR CAR RENTAL EVER AGAIN! THERE HAS TO BE OVER 200 PEOPLE IN LINE AHEAD OF ME. BEEN HERE AN HOUR AND A HALF ALREADY! HAVE AT LEAST ANOTHER HOUR! F#CK YOU DOLLAR CAR RENTAL! NEVER AGAIN!!!!
1 star because you can’t not give a star and leave a review. I wish I would have listened to these reviews before booking. My husband and I booked a standard car a month prior to coming to Florida for our honeymoon. We paid $500 for the car rental online when we booked through Travelocity with our flights and hotel. Once we got to dollar at Tampa airport, we were told to provide our card and ID which we used to pay for the rental online. The employee of dollar ran our information (never asking for our itinerary number or confirmation number) and stated that it “wasn’t gonna work” due to “low credit”. We explained that we have already paid for the rental for 6 days, and that our credit and money had already been run and taken. The employee continued to tell us we needed to “figure it out and step out of line”.After contacting our bank and verifying it wasn’t an issue with either of our cards or credit, we relayed the message to the dollar company employees. Unfortunately they were of no assistance or help and told us once again “I don’t know man, you’re gonna have to just get a refund and call an Uber or something”. We kindly responded that we had already paid for a car and that we would like to figure this out. They told us the only way we could do it is by putting it under a credit card and paying an extra fee.The employee then tried to increase the price yet again not realizing that I had printed all of the confirmation documentation with prices and confirmation codes. Once these papers were given to the employee he was at a loss for words and quickly re-directed his gaze back to his computer to try and find another way to take advantage of a young couple.Long story short. Do not use this company. Yes, others may have had success and that’s great. But chances are you’re going to have an experience like this an end up spending an extra $500-600.Yes, the deposit is $500 with a debit card and $300 with a credit card. And yes again, this is ON TOP OF the cost to rent. I can only imagine what they are going to try and pull/add on once we take the rental back to the airport for drop off.Hertz and Thrifty are sister companies to Dollar, so if you can, just avoid all 3 and “call an Uber or something” ☺️
Had no car available made me wait 3 hrs in line horrible service first and last time I will ever rent from here would never recommend
I was quoted a price that had all taxes and fees included. When I got my car, it had a half of tank of gas. I turned the car in with a full tank of gas. They charged me A LOT for a tank of gas, and a lot of fraudulent charges. You can NOT talk to anyone anywhere. It ended up being over $150 extra for a 4 day rental. DO NOT USE THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They lie and steal
Ordered a midsize car for one week and payed around $500. After the first day with the car I got notified that Dollar charged me a $100 dollar late fee for not bringing the car back on time. When I called they told me that my rental was only one day but when I checked my reservation it told me I had the correct dates entered. I’ve been going back and forth with dollar for two days now trying to straighten it all out, all the while I’m still getting charged $100 dollars a day for not returning it in time. Never again will I use this horrible, incompetent company and if you’re reading this I suggest you find somewhere else to rent a car.
About a 90 minute wait. Dollar and Hertz and Thrifty counters are merged into one. Hundreds of people waiting. Impossible to social distance with the quantity of people here. An incredible example of what happens when you let all the large companies merge in an industry. Zero accountability and competition. Do you have an extra hour and a half to wait? The signs that indicate that blue chip members and dollar express people should go to the Hertz gold desk in the garage is a lie. They will not help Dollar or Thrifty members at the Hertz office in the garage, despite the signs and common ownership.
Nevermind the fact i was unable to get my rental. The information I received was valuable. I had begun to heat up but the agent handled it with grace..TPA dollar is ok w/me.
Didnt have a large selection of cars when they first went there so I took one that was pretty old and had a noise in the back so I returned it and they gave me a much much better car so the service is good
I chose this rental through my southwest app and chose dollar because it was cheaper. I didn’t expect it to be terrible service. I arrived at the Tampa airport after a long plane ride and I had to wait in an extremely long line. Dollar and thrifty counters were closed and Hertz employees were taking care of everyone. There were TWO employees. I was in line for an hour and a half AFTER my plane ride to even get checked in! With a reservation! The line was so long, while we wore masks there was no social distancing. There was one Hertz employee answering questions and controlling the line and she was extremely unprofessional. She gave attitude whenever people asked questions, argued with a lady and made fun of her. She was not helpful whatsoever and made our already bad experience worse. Multiple people tried to take their business elsewhere but some people already payed for this and enterprise was out of cars. I feel like I should not have paid for the service I received. The bill ended up going up over $100 once I got to the desk which they should’ve told me the correct total when I made the reservation online weeks ahead. If anyone knows how to contact the managers of dollar or hertz at the Tampa airport please let me know.
I never have issues with car rentals ever so this being my first time was very irritating. I booked my rental over 2 months ago for a road trip that we were doing for a month.First off, they might as well put Whenever for their opening hours because 6am is not it! No one at the counter and no sign to direct them to Hertz because that was the only one open! That was irritation #1.Irritation #2: They were still searching for our car, which was a minivan. 30 minutes later, theyre still searching for it but when I go up to the counter to ask for an upgrade ASAP, they all of a sudden is cleaning my car rental. 20 minutes later as I ask for an update, oh, theyre at the pump now with it! An hour into this horrific experience and we finally get our rental. What a nightmare.Their logo is Well never forget whose dollar it is but they need to redo it to Well never forget whose dollar it is because well also forget your car.
I got a reasonable price for the rental and the return was easy.
Wow. Long flights for all. Been in line for a long while. 2 people helping us. One man has been being helped for the entire time we are here. 30 people behind us. Line keeps growing.Dollar, hire more agents to help. You know the reservations. I see know why you have less than 2 stars. If your thinking dollar, change you mind. No limes at the other companies!!
So there’s a sign that says that they operate from 6am to 12am but no one is here. Flushed us over to Hertz where the line is a mile long. I cannot understand why take the reservation if it’s not with the company you booked with. If I could upload the pic I took I would. We ordered an SUV but who knows what crapshoot we will wind up with. Reminds me of Seinfeld you can take the reservation but not honor it! 😡
Worst service ever, walked up and there are 100 people in line.Managment needs to learn how to staff and manage business.People come here in Tampa for vacation and spend thousands of $$$.The 1st experience off the plane is the incompetent mangers at Dollar- Thrifty having 2 counters open and hundreds of people in line waiting to spend their vacation money.Extremely poor managment!!!They deserve no STARS!!!!
Long lines, car was a piece of junk with broken wipers (it rained every day) and they charged the wrong credit card after i made it abundantly clear at check in which card to use.
Great car snf service
Company is a fraud and scam they only returned $60 on a $450 deposit on credit card . Total charges was $790 for 3days car rental. I’m a millionaire and it doesn’t effect me but it will for others
Ive been standing in line for 40 minutes at Tampa Airport Dollar Car Rental. Busy Saturday afternoon, huge huge huge lines, only 2 reps working out of 13 customer service windows. Seriously will never use this company again. I wish I would have read the reviews prior to booking!!
Called to confirm someone would be at location at time flight arrived. Twice I was advised as long as we have flight info someone will be there. Arrived and was told by a different car rental company at same location they left at 10pm and do this all the time to arrivals. Worst experience will never use dollar again as their customer service is no assistance and think it is ok to do that as there only answer was....you signed the contract. Do not waste your time or money. Yes you may spend slightly more but go to Enterprise. Not Hertz as they are affiliated with Dollar and were part of the problem. You will end up spending over 12hrs on the phone to get now where.
After reading the reviews I was HIGHLY skeptical of renting from here however they had the best deal and we were running out of options. Leading up to the rental date I was not expecting much and wouldnt have been surprised if I was let down. Surprisingly to say everything was amazing..except for one thing which Ill get to. Upon arrival all at the rental cou ter at the airport there were only 2 people working and I was 3rd in line. It took approximately 15min until it was my turn. The lady was extremely nice and went very quick to get me on my way. We grabbed the keys and went to the lot. We had a 2019 Yukon XL for 2 weeks. It was super jive except it had a lot of door dings and the fab lock button was broke off and non functional. There was nobody to tell so I took several pictures. Leaving the lot there was an attendant whi I did mention but she didnt seem to care. That along with the fact I emailed Dollar rental about the pre existing damage and had no response was the only down fall. The car drove great and we returned it 2 weeks later with a full tank that was confirmed at drop off. After all the reviews I was expecting to have unnecessary charges bit instead I was only charged exactly what they said and not a penny more. This was an incredibly smooth transaction and I hope other people experience this too!!
RENTER BEWARE. I wish I could give zero stars honestly. We had rented two cars through Travelocity WITH insurance. Got to Dollar reservation counter, and they only gave us stuff for one car AND tried to sell us insurance again (that we had already paid for through Travelocity). Cars were nice, but THEN TWO weeks after our trip, the manager emails us about potential damage, asking us if we had gotten into an accident and sent pictures. The car was sparkling when we returned it!! The odometer had one more mile than how we left it - who do you think caused that damage? 100% an employee. Crazy! I will never ever be renting from Dollar OR Hertz or any affiliated company because of their ridiculousness. The location manager’s name is Pamela Andrew’s. I suggest all these bad reviewers start calling her.
Wish I could give zero stars. This is by far the WORST experience I’ve ever had with a rental car company. We made a reservation, and when we went to pickup the car, we were charged another $800 DOLLARS. We were not informed by anyone until we were checking in that this company charges $25 extra per day for drivers under 25. When we called customer service they hung up on us, they told us we called the wrong number when we hadn’t, and then we mysteriously got “disconnected” with the supervisor just as we were making progress to get our money back. Then they tried to hit us with a $200 bill for gas when we returned the car. Horrible customer service, outrageous pricing, do NOT rent through this company, it’s a scam.
RENTER BEWARE!!! Waited over an hour in line for my rental only to be told they overbooked their rentals right as I was getting to the front...even though they had a few left and I managed to talk my way into one. I feel for the people behind me. Upon returning the car with a full tank and barely any use I received an additional $117 charge to my card for reasons unknown. I called customer service during business hours but received a voicemail stating they were closed. 1 star because it was slightly cheaper in the beginning but your time, stress, and pockets in the end, is money too. RENTER BEWARE!!!
The worst car rental experience Everrrrrrr!!! Do not use this company!!! They price gouge! We got a car from Miami and it was a 200$ deposit, then on the way back they magically changed it to $500 deposit, without notice. Save your money and go else where. Worst customer service, POS company!!!
Charged $400 smoking fee even though we didnt smoke in the vehicle.
I booked this car for $110 through Priceline. I didn’t except any extra insurance or anything. Apparently I signed a damage waiver, that was absolutely not shared with me that it would cost me an additional $198!!! My $110 car rental ended up costing me $298. Such a scam, go with a company who cares more about being upfront and honest with its customers.
BEWARE. GET A TRANSPONDER.The airport Dollar rental car agent said I wouldn’t need a toll transponder for the area I was going to be driving. Then after finding toll booths in the area I was charged $40 in processing fees for 4 tolls at $9.95 per toll processing fee. For a .78 cent toll. That is a scam they are running making big $ on consumers. Get a Transponder and don’t trust them.
Not even worth 1 Star!!!When we arrived at the rental car desk we discovered they didn’t have any vehicles available anymore. There were several families waiting to pick up a car. All cars were given to other customers and the people at the desk left. This was so unbelievably unacceptable. Everyone was stranded at the airport. Then when we call to discuss this with a supervisor, the call is transferred and then dropped.
Do yourself a favor and NOT rent from dollar. An hour after I dropped the rental off they started charging my card, mind you there was no issues with the car upon return. Once I got home (45 min drive) they had tried charging my card another time. I never received the email from them stating the vehicle was returned and what the charges were for. I called dollar and all they did was send me a copy of the charges and refusedto tell me over the phone why I was beingcharged. $400 for vehicle damage. There was ZERO damage to the car. They would not tell me what damage was done. They just kept telling me to go speak with the branch manager.
This is the WORST place ever. Got a car and warnings on the dash were going off the car shook when appling the brakes. Can not get a hold of customer service. Ive tried emailing and calling. This car was not safe for my kids. I will never go through them again.
Random charges that were in none of the terms that were included when we initially booked. By the time you get there, you dont have any choice but to pay them. Include ALL fees that are standard in the price or its false advertising.
Very dissatisfied! I picked up rental and it was dirty inside. Had not even been wiped down from previous rental. I had previously rented from Dollar and it was great ! This time not so. Nasty nasty nasty !! Will go elsewhere next time.
They have 10 registers available and 2 open on Labor Day Weekend. 20+ people in line. First and last time I rent a car from these clowns.
Horrible customer service! They added the additional insurance without my consent. They are trying to scam people into paying more money with out their consent. Unfortunately I was already 1 hr away when I realized this and they wanted me to return to the location to remove it. DO NOT RENT FROM DOLLAR. AVOID AT ALL COST Thrifty, Dollar and Hertz are all using the same staff. Avoid all these.
Expect big lines, unfriendly and impatient service and big prices. Don’t be misled cause Hertz and Thrift are now sharing the same staff in this location. All the same.
1st time renting car here. Will leave review again at end of trip. Booked car and prepaid online. Get off plane only to have dollar & Thrifty being handled by Hertz. 3 people at counter working. Line as long as an amusement ride. NOT a good start to 1st time renting. I have no idea if this has anything to do with COVID (still unacceptable) or Tampa Int’l Airport (still unacceptable).
PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THEY WILL NOT ACCEPT ALL BRAND CREDIT CARDS. I TRAVELRED ALMOST 2 HOURS TO RENT A CAR, BOOKED THROUGH PRICELINE. THEY DO NOT INFORM YOU OF ALL OF THE CREDIT CARDS NOT ACCEPTED. THIS WAISTED 4 HOURS OF MY DAY. MONEY IS MONEY AND THIS IS WHY DOLLAR HAS POOR RATINGS. AVIS MADE MY DAY AND RENTED TO ME WITH NO DOWN PAYMENT. EVERYONE PLEASE USE AVIS ON THE SAME FLOOR LEVEL. SHORTER LINES, FAST SERVICE, FRIENDLY STAFF, NO DOWN PAYMENT UP TO $200. THE LADY AT DOLLAR RENTAL SLAMMED MY CARD ON THE COUNTER LIKE ITS NOTHING. PLEASE DO NOT WAIST YOUR TIME AT DOLLAR, THRIFTY, HERZ.
Multiple ripple working but only one person helping customers. Be prepared to wait up to 2 hours for your booked rental. Such a joke. Pay more and use ANY of their competitors.
DO NOT COME HERE!!! Trash, Trash and more TRASH!! This place has 9 computers and 2 employees working!! It’s also packed here!! This place should be closed and EVERYONE FIRED!!
DO NOT I REPEAT TO DO NOT rent from thrifty car rental in Tampa. Went to Tampa during Valentine’s Day weekend and arrived at the airport with a line of 50+ people. Thrifty, hertz and dollar were all combined into one line and only had 2 workers working. The lady who was assisting with the lines didn’t make it any better. Yelling and screaming and giving bad customer service to the customers in line and was complaining about people not knowing what they were doing and yelling on how she wanted to go home. At the time of return I was given the car on full tank, was returned on full tank credit card was charged $120 out of a $200 deposit. Confused on the charge and called customer service and they stated they couldn’t help me there was no record of the car being returned. Still waiting to hear from them horriiibllle service !!!!
What a terrible place. Two hour line to get to the counter. One person working at a counter with 9 empty stations for customer service. I’ve never seen anything so poorly run. Save your money.
Do not rent from these people they are outright thieves
If there was a way to give 0 stars I would. Do not rent from here. They are liars. They will not give you your refund back and will doctor the paper to say something else. Whenever you call to ask about your refund they will simply lie and give you a warning and hang up the phone instead of transferring to a manager. They were not at the airport on a Sunday when we picked up our rental car and asked us to use the hertz window to then blame the Hertz employee for the confusion on the paperwork.
First and last time using dollar...or thirty or hertz...prebooked and paid, at the rental terminal with hertz handling all three companies with 2 people working during a holiday break..45 min wait still not halfway thru the line...looking for an Uber at this point...shop elsewhere
Awful service - the customer service representative was rude and aggressive, you return a car with a full-gas tank, no one comes to confirm and then they bill you for a full gas charge. Go with ANY other company.
The line was so long that it took us almost longer to get the car than the flight did from Trenton, NJ.
I will NEVER use Dollar again. They charged me TWICE. I have called and called and their outgoing message says they are available to take calls 6am to 7pm 7 days a week. However they do NOT take calls Saturday and Sunday. Of course I try calling them today, having to take time off from work and I am on hold for 30 minutes and Had to hang up because I couldnt wait anymore. BEWARE do NOT USE THIS COMPANY.
I am at the Dollar/Thrifty car rental area in Tampa, Fl Airport, waiting in line since 10:30PM to pickup the car. It is 00:54 AM and I am still waiting in line. There are just two agents working to check everybody in. SHAME!!!
My rental car had issues... car was shaking over 45mhp. They didnt seem to care about it. Also asked to prepaid for gas option, they left it out of the contract and tried to charge me $10 per gallon. What a waste of time....
We rented from Tampa Hertz - apparently now Dollar - and we went from Tampa to Sanibel Island. There is a toll to get to the island, but it will not take cash or any form of payment and directs drivers to drive slowly through and they will be charged the toll (6 dollars). We did as instructed, assuming the car rental place would charge my credit card the $6. 2 weeks later I got a fine letter from Dollar Processing services charging me the $6, plus an administrative fee of $9.99. So the toll actually cost me $15.99 for a $6 toll. On top of that, instead of simply charging the card on file the 6 bucks, I have to write a check out and mail it to them. This is how to run your business into the ground. NEVER AGAIN.
Prepaid that’s the catch can’t cancel . A 2 hour wait to rent a car . Not nice . This will be the first and last time I will every rent from you guys .Then again the only reason I did was because you were the only company left .This is shameful
Previous bad reviews may be emotionally posted. Used Dollar from Fri AM to Sun PM. It was as close to a perfect experience as I’ve had renting cars. I’ll make this to the point. Went in to rent. Was offered a different (better) vehicle (from an SUV to a convertible) for a better price. I only needed the rental for my wife and I for a short weekend marriage retreat getaway any. Julie at the counter was great to work with! Delightful! Car (Camaro) traveled great. Upon return Anthony was friendly, helpful, and made the drop off easy. For me, it was a great experience overall. Confident to leave 5 stars.
I booked an SUV (jeep compass or comparable), arrived at the counter, they gave me the form,Got to the parking spot to find a toyota hrv, not a bad car, but not what I paid for. Went back to the counter, the man explained that I did not pay for a jeep class, even after I showed him a screen shot of my confirmation. Then he said I can go to the “gold” area and pick anything there. There were some ok, but still smaller suvs there, got into 1, smelled like weed, got into another and none of the controls were electronic, all manual seat and mirror adjustment. For $40 per day? Really? So I went back, again, and they say I can pay an upgrade, which I finally did because I needed a car and it had already been an hour dealing with the car. So at $60 per day i’m driving a Nissan Murano, for that price I can buy one fully loaded!
Its a shame because Ive had nice experiences with Dollar at the Orlando and Miami airports but WOW did the staff at the Tampa airport disappoint - particularly a dispirited woman named Paula. I had the car for less than 24 hours and the AC smelled like something had died, the car would rev/jolt out of no where, and the front left tire pressure was going up and down for no reason and then got dangerously low. I drove it straight back to the airport to explain and to swap out the car (I have been in an accident before that was caused by low tire pressure). Perhaps its because I work in customer service that I have high standards for consumer interaction but Paula, the less than enthusiastic Dollar representative who couldnt manage to produce a smile or complete sentence, failed miserably on all levels. I tried to explain to her what was happening to the car and all she could say was that I didnt fill up the tank before returning it. I told her it would *not* have been safe to make stops - I was even debating about having the car towed to the airport - and her only response was to give me a discount on the gas (at that point, still $78). I said it was too expensive, my company would be livid, so I would have to take the car to get gassed up and she said too late. I said I wanted to speak to someone in customer service because I was upset with how the situation was unfolding and she WALKED AWAY. Lady, I would love to walk away when Im unhappy with a situation at my job but I would be unemployed if I did that. Part of your job is handling good situations and part of it is handling bad situations. If youre not cut out for that, perhaps youre in the wrong role.
Stop! Stop! Read reviews, they are not lying! Longer in line than the entire flight from Baltimore. Thrifty is the same line !! Horrible!
On the morning of 3/1/2020, there was the usual mad dash from the plane to the car rental places. When you land in Tampa, you have to take TWO shuttles to the car rental area. We rented from Dollar. Dollar has a combined area with Thrifty. There were about 5 computers for each desk, but only 1-2 employees for each company. I was lucky enough to be one of the first in line, but when we left, there were at least 40 people in line behind me. I am SURE that they knew how many people were coming in around our time yet they understaffed themselves. I also observed TWO employees leave their post as the rush was coming in. One went on break and the other gentleman (who worked in Dollar and was supposedly a supervisor) left his spot for about 15 minutes and went up to where you pick up the car to inform the worker that it would get busy soon (he told us this). Highly unnecessary. He probably could have taken 3 customers instead of going for his morning walk just to tell someone it was going to get busy. Another issue was that NONE of the kiosks were working and we were told it was an internet connection problem, however, the kiosks in the Hertz, Avis, etc. areas were working fine.
God awful! Charged me for insurance when I said no and was told it was just the hold on my car. Wont refund and terrible customer service. Do not ever use them!!!!!!!
Flawless rental experience at the Tampa airport office! We got to pick which car we wanted out of 2 rows of midsizes. 5 minutes after checking in we were on the road! Upon returning, you leave the keys in the car and head out. My $200 deposit was returned to my credit card within an hour of dropping the car off. Will absolutely use Dollar Rental again!
This company is deceitful, and they steal peoples money. I was asked at the front desk when I picked up the vehicle if I wanted to prepay for gas. She assured me it was the same price as the gas stations and that there are no gas stations on the way in, so I agreed not thinking this was a SCAM. I took the car back with a full tank of gas and was still charged $46!! When I called and asked about it they said no matter the level you bring it back you will be charged, which the lady never explained to me. I assumed at what level I brought it back they would top it off and adjust the fuel charge as necessary. After returning home I called to dispute the charge, I was offered a gift card as compensation, which I did not take since I WILL NEVER RENT FROM DOLLAR AGAIN! When I finally got a hold of a supervisor the call was magically dropped on their end, how professional... had to call back again and Customer service told me there is nothing they can do, once a charge is made its done (which I have a hard time believing anything from them now). DOLLAR CAR RENTAL ARE THIEVES! Imagine all the money they make by charging people for bringing back vehicles with full tanks of gas.
Good price and service 👌
Great experience from pick up to drop off. Milena (I think that’s her name), the manager’s, customer service was absolutely spectacular, a dying trait in this day in age. Give that woman a raise!!! I’ll definitely recommend dollar to my family/friends, and I’ll be utilizing them again and again!
Worst expierence ever. The Tampa sales staff are liars and thieves. Dont believe them when they tell you what you want to hear. Never renting from them again. Was told if I paid for the fuel surcharge and brought it back half full that cost would be adjusted. Liars. Then the customer service call was worse! Dollar rental you would keep more customers if you did business fairly! $107 for a full tank. Shame on you!
There is a return early fee associated with rentals. I was not aware. Brought the car back a little early due to another conflicting appointment only to be charged and additional $25. I think that is bogus. My wife and I both sent a complaint about that over the website, but never heard back from anyone. Very disappointing customer service. On a follow up email, I finally received a response. I will say after some pushing, they did refund the $25 extra charge and issued an apology. For what it is worth they did the right thing in the end after some pushing. Thank you for that, Dollar Rental.
This is one of those situations where I would rate negative stars if it were possible. My mother came to Tampa to visit me and she rented a car from Dollar at the Tampa International Airport.Stolen Wallet: I left my wallet under the front passenger seat of the rental car after it was returned. We tried calling customer service the second we realized it was left behind. They were absolutely no help. just file a claim online. This wasnt a scarf, or a hat. This was a wallet with your whole life in it. We of course filed the claim online. I also went back to the rental desk at the airport to try and catch the car before he was rented out again. I was too late. They cleaned the car and said they never found a wallet and that now that the claim had been submitted the car should be flagged and when it returns they will look again and let us know if they find anything. The desk woman, Kenya, was able to tell me the rental car would be returned Monday (this was Friday). Monday rolled around and I had been monitoring my bank accounts all weekend and there was nothing out of the ordinary. The wallet was in a location that a renter would most likely not find it anyways. Lesson learned... cancel your cards asap and do not trust humanity to do the right thing. Come Monday I got a notification that one of my credit cards had a fraud alert. Sure enough every single one of my cards had been attempted and/ or accounts drained. Everything from my debit to credit to HSA card. This however did not happen until the vehicle was returned to the Dollar Rent a Car location. My assumption is a Dollar employee stole the wallet as the transactions were in Tampa Florida after the rental vehicle was returned to the airport. I sat on the phone for up to 3 hours trying to get through to someone in customer service. I was transferred at least 8 times and I spoke with people from Reservations to Customer Service to Lost and Found and they continued to transfer me as no one apparently was the right person to talk to. I tried asking for a Manager on several accounts and was again transferred to different departments. There is some serious lack of knowledge and training at this company and I wouldnt trust a smooth rental car experience to happen for a second. The WORST customer service I have ever experience and the most unorganized system I have dealt with. I am definitely a benefit of the doubt kind of person and this was BAD. Think twice before you rent a vehicle from Dollar Rent A Car.
Standing behind 100 people trying to get rentals from Hertz, Thrifty and Dollar. Not a good way to begin vacation! Will never rent at Tampa Int again!
Horrible lines as only one person working at the counter on a Saturday. Terrible service. Avoid at all coast.
Currently been standing in line for over an hour...no one at the dollar counter...it’s mixed with thrifty. So bad. If you have to spend 20$ more to go with some other company....it’s worth it. Don’t pick Thrifty either.
This company is absolutely horrendous! I dropped off a car after having it for 1 and 1/2 hours at the Tampa airport at 10p. At 6:30 a m I got an email stating my charges were what I had agreed to. Then 3 hours later, I get an email stating that there was damage to the vehicle and they charged me $300. Then I look at my bank account and they have taken almost $700 out of my bank account. I called dollar twice and was treated absolutely horribly only to find out Im not even calling into the United States close to where the company is located that I want to talk to. If I could get negative stars I would. So now I have to go to the Tampa airport, mind you Im from Detroit area, and I have to try and dispute these charges with them in person because theres no number to get ahold of somebody there. The customer service representatives were rude, not knowledgeable, and overall terrible. I will be posting this review everywhere I can! DO NOT rent from here!
So, my wife and I planned on getting a car during our trip to Florida. Our original plan was enterprise. They cost a bit more, but we’ve had good luck with them in the past. But then I heard about dollar car rental and how they accept debit cards. My wife and I do not have credit cards, so this was huge for us. They did put a hold on our account, which I believe may have been 200? But whatever, we have the money. They offered a “managers special” which guaranteed us a 4 door car with space for 5 people. Cool. Went with that. Got some major savings because of it. So we get to the airport, and they direct us to our lot. They hand us our paperwork and let us PICK THE CAR! From the compact car lot of course. But that was a great feeling because we got to choose our features versus them handing us keys and saying here’s what you get. We fell in love with this car. May even consider buying one in the future. (We got a Nisan Versa Note). When we returned the car, we handed the inspector the key, she looked it over, and pointed us to our gate. That simple. It was a pretty much painless experience. We did managers specialUsed our own insuranceAnd did not prepay for gas, just filled it before we got to the airport.I would totally use them again and recommend them to anyone.
We rented a full size car yesterday at Tampa airport. The car seemed to be running fine when we drove off. Last night we stopped to eat and at a grocery store in Indian Rocks Beach. Both times we tried to start the car it acted like it didnt want to turn over. Once we got to our beach rental we called Dollar. They were animate they were charging us $75 to have someone come jump start it. They they wanted us to take it to a mechanic and be reimbursed...on our 3 day weekend??? So this morning car is completely dead. We called dollar again and they still want to charge us $75 to have someone come jump start it...which wont solve our problem the next time we drive it. Do they want us to pay $75 every time? They wont send us a replacement and this is their only means of fixing things for us. So basically we are stuck with a car with a bad battery that we are afraid to drive anywhere and we are 40 minutes from the airport. My suggestion to you is DO NOT deal with Dollar. They do not verify their cars are in running order before they lease them out. We came from Texas, and should not have to spend 2 hours on the phone to them on our 3 day weekend and still receive no resolution. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!
UPDATE: We just filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau about Dollar Car Rental at the Tampa Airport. To anyone with an issue with this particular outlet, please do the same!We rented a small SUV on 30 Nov here, where wed flown in for a funeral of a close friend. I give high marks for the quality and selection of vehicles (our Nissan Rogue was great). HOWEVER, like other reviewers here, they pulled a fast one with the insurance. I had reserved the car online and brought my reservation printout, which I gave to the agent at the counter and which showed I had declined the insurance. When she asked about insurance, we said no/no insurance, that we didnt want or need it. She clicked away, then printed out our documents, folded them, and handed them and my online reservation printout back to me. She said NOTHING about having changed the insurance selection on us. But when we turned the vehicle in two days later, there it was, $95.97 in insurance charges! Ive filed two complaints so far with Dollar, but they have not responded. If they do, and they refund my money, then I will gladly change this review rating.
The staff was very courteous, efficient and the whole process was painless. Although the charges weren’t explained as fully as I would have liked, after going through all of them, there was no over charges. No one tried overselling anything and it was super simple picking up and dropping off the rental.
Bad experienced, they charged $453 vs the $110 contract price and have been calling so many time to customer service, also I returned car prior to return time at least 1hr prior but attendee told me to leave the key in the car and I can go and she will check later on as she was by her self. and now they want to charge 2 more hours of rental and almost 350$ more . I cant believe this.
DO NOT RENT HERE!!!! My costs doubled at the counter in Tampa from what I was quoted online! I specified online that I would take the insurance, but was not quoted a price with insurance. Had I known what the ACTUAL price would have been, I would never have rented here.Looking at the other reviews here and elsewhere, I see that I am not alone in this experience. They should give people the entire price at the time they book. Why hide this and surprise folks who are starting a vacation? It was a terrible way to begin and we will NEVER use this company again and we absolutely want to discourage anyone we know from using this company.
After picking up my rental at Tamp International Airport (without a hitch and good service) I drove it around Florida for about 13 days. During this time I DID NOT SMOKE in the car (as I dont do this in my own car or at home for that matter). Upon returning the car to the drop off zone for Dollar Car Rentals the employee checking it accused me of having smoked in the car. As she pointed to some spots in the car showing signs of someone having smoked in the car. She also said she could smell it.I know I didnt smoke in the car but Dollar fined me $ 300 anyway. After reading the small print I concluded that no matter what I say theyll not refund the money. It says that when an employee suspects smoking and states this you can be fined up to $ 400.This was certainly the last time I booked a car with them. Big fail on the side of Dollar Rent A Car.
My car was fine until I wanted to drop it off early. Dialer gave me a time of 6 o’clock and they want to charge me for dropping it off early, late I understand but early. No wonder they only have a two star rating !
We rented a car for 32 days and put 400 miles on car during that time.. at dropoff a lady scanned license plate and walked away saying we were all set. When we received invoice we were charged $400 for damage to car. They claimed that car required cleaning due to smoking which did not occur. Refused to adjust bill. Do not rent from Dollarin car
I rented a car with your company because my airline in Fort Lauderdale stranded our plane at 2:30am. I wanted to get home to Tampa so I had to wait 21 hours for a new flight or rent a car and drive 4 hours home. The girl at your counter was so understanding despite how frustrated I was. The process to rent a car was easy, the young lady at the counter was awesome! I would absolutely rent a car from your company again!!!
Recieved the car with cpu errors and a slow leak. Ive been on hold for nearly an hour and Im still waiting. Ive yet to actually speak with a representative, but Ive been transferred 3 times after going through an identical call tree each time with the same broken recording.
I had a five star experience with them and would hands down rent with them again. I just dropped the car off this morning at 4am. I’m a pretty hard sell on goods and service and I have zero complaints. The price quoted was the price I paid. I got a great midsize clean 2018 car for a seven day rental. Pick up and drop off went off without a hitch. Good job Tampa office! 💪🏻
Do NOT rent from them. First the agent setting up the rental tricked me into paying for a damage wavier. He asked if I wanted the extended coverage. I said no. Then he just added the damage waiver and never said it was optional. I found out two days later when I called to see if I could extend the rental for one day. Then they tried to charge me 79 dollars to rent a car that was supposed to be 19.99 a day. When I questioned that amount I was told it was to pay the additional “fees”. I asked to speak to a manager and was told none were available but I could call back later. I called back 2 hours later- still no manager. Then My husband called a third time. This time they wanted an additional $129 to keep the car one more day. My husband misunderstood and thought that was the total price for all 4 days so he said yes. I immediately called back and said there was a mistake. This time, after I started shouting, a manager, Jasmine, got on the line. She told me she would “do me a favor” and restore my original rental agreement but I would be charged s $10 fee. I am driving 2 hours round trip to return the car to the airport and rent a car from someone else. Through the course of this debacle I spent over an hour on hold waiting for someone in customer service to pick up the phone. No one did. This company stinks. Rent from anyone else
